Metal Thrashing Makeover.......2007-04-21
I'll admit was a little skeptical when the band announced plans to re-record some Anthrax classics with the new lineup. The old stuff never grabbed me, and it seemed like a bit of a cash grab. After reading some of the band members' statements about The Greater of Two Evils, I decided to give it a shot. All I can say is "I GET IT NOW". These weren't bad songs; they were just missing two very important elements. One was more modern production technology, but the main element was the right vocalist. I can hear you old school Anthrax fans having fits over that statement, but to me (and I suspect many others), the John Bush lineup is the REAL Anthrax. I'm not knocking Joey Belladonna, but all of his albums combined didn't impact me like Sound of White Noise did.
With The Greater of Two Evils, Anthrax reaches all the way back to the Fistful of Metal days and on through the Belladonna albums, giving us all a chance to experience these old songs in a whole new light. Bush's energetic and intense yet still melodic vocal style is such a better fit for Anthrax's brand of thrash, and you can tell he put 110% into recording these songs. The band also sounds amazing. The guys put so much frenetic energy into these songs that you'd never guess they had been playing some of them for two decades.
I know Anthrax got some grief over this release, but I absolutely love it. It gives me a deeper appreciation for both John Bush's vocal style and those early Anthrax albums.
Good but............2006-08-12
Anthrax are the soundtrack to my childhood. Listening to Bush sing Belladona tracks is a little weird, but not bad. I love this, but I think I still prefer to get out the originals. Bush just can't hit those high notes required to pull off these great tracks. The Bush era has produced some off the greatest Anthrax albums of all time (Stomp 442 is THE Best Anthrax album of all time), but there was no real need for this bar novely factor.
Go get the originals, bang your head and love life as a lucky old school metal fan.
P.S. New Core and Nu metal is ultimately pretty boring, go get an education in what metal is supposed to be, Anthrax is an awesome place to start
Good Re-master.......2006-07-15
Scott Ian and the Anthrax crew return to the studio to release the classics re-done, and what comes out is nothing but the best. You'll notice cleaner guitars, more audible bass, better vocals (IMO), and much more of a bite to their music than they had with their early releases.
Every Anthrax fan knows these songs by now, so their is no need to go over them, but I have to say my favorite re-mastered songs are Gung-Ho and Keep it in the Family.
Although this isnt necessary, its definately neat, and is worth checking out. Also get Testaments First Strike Still Deadly, which is also re-masters.
yes, it is worthy of a 5..........2006-03-30
i don't like to give out 5's very often, as that means there is nothing better. in this case, this release is better than a 4, so a 5 is all that's left. if that makes sense to you, then we're off to a good start. one of my fellow reviewers talks of how bad the reocordings/mastering of 80's speed and thrash bands was, and he couldn't be more right. Anthrax, Megadeth, Overkill and others suffered greatly from this sad affliction. (how Metallica avoided it was a miracle). thank god we now have producers and equipment that will do these albums justice, as on this one. excellent mastering, and a crisp, heavy bite (kinda like nice cold beer), are what you'll get here, and the songs and musicianship ain't bad either. this is really one of the better speed/thrash metal cds to come out in awhile. maybe not the best Anthrax release of all time, but you will defintely not be disappointed. peace.
The last official John Bush CD........2006-03-10
I did not buy this when it came out due to the rumors(at the time) that Joey was rejoining the band. For more on this hearbreak, see: www.reunionbashers.com
Check out the link to Bob Mayo's article on integrity in music-really brings the point home. Now with the prospect of John never singing with the band again, I guess I want to make sure I have all the Bushthrax product I can get my hands on before they totally go away. A great send off to the greatest singer they ever had. We'll miss you JB!

+4? More like +2.......2005-02-02
This CD is actually a 2 CD set. These are the actual track listings:
Disc 1:
1. Deathrider
2. Metal Thrashing Mad
3. Caught In A Mosh
4. A.I.R.
5. Among the Living
6. Keep It In The Family
7. Indians
8. Madhouse
9. Panic
10. I Am The Law
11. Belly Of The Beast
12. N.F.L.
13. Be All End All
14. Gung-Ho
Disc 2:
1. Anthrax
2. Lone Justice
3. In My World
I can't figure out why this is labeled "+4 Bonus Tracks." It's more like +2 since the only additional tracks that you get that aren't on the US release are Anthrax and In My World (since Lone Justice is a hidden track on the US release). It's still a great album, but you should at least know what you're getting before you pay the extra money.
As far as the CD goes, I don't have anything profound to say about it that will help you decide to buy it or not. All I can say is, if you're an Anthrax fan, get it. If not, my condolences.
