Album Description

Visions of Atlantis' Symphonic Metal debut from 2002. The band's potential was undisputedly noticeable on this release: heavy riffs paired with fantastic keyboard arrangements and the sweet soprano vocals of then 18-year-old Nicole Bogner conjure the perfect album for fans of Nightwish, Sonata Arctica and even Rhapsody.

5 out of 5 stars Raw Fantasy Music........2007-06-06

I have always liked fantasy-themed music. This is such an example of new band(at the time) exploring the concept. This album is different from their later releases but at the same time it has its own charm. "Lords of The Sea" is a 160bpm song about a dragon war featuring a great synth-beat. Other songs like "The Quest" and "Lovebearing Storm" feature more of a mix of guitars and synth.

Some might find their first CD a bit raw and unprofessional and I am inclined to agree on the first part. But I love this CD because it sounds like a band trying a concept so there is that much more of a "let's try this" aspect to the music. They do not venture far from the Nightwish-esqe style, but the style is much faster and less epic. So if you wanted a more guitar and synth-driven band, this is it. If you wanted more orchestra, it is not.

All in all an excellent and raw CD. At least try a listen before you buy.

1 out of 5 stars Bad album. Check out their second release instead........2007-02-26

I agree that this album was horrible. The recording was terrible, the male vocals were horrid and sounded distant, the instrumentals were mediocre, and the female vocals were definitely off in some parts. I took one listen and never listened again. Luckily though, I purchased their second album before ever hearing this one. The vocals are ten times better, there is- from what I could tell- a new male vocalist who is much better, the overall recorded sound is better and far less distant sounding, and the music is also improved. Skip this album and check out their second release.

And they aren't Nightwish wannabees in my opinion. The female vocalist's voice is just similar to Tarja's. Big deal.

I bought this CD because of the pretty cover. Well, I also heard they were a wannabe-Nightwish, and as a huge Nightwish fan, I wanted to see what they sounded like. The vocalists are terrible, and pushed too far back in the mix. The music is actually pretty good, though. The only track I ever listen to is Lovebearing Storm, and I marked it only as 3 stars on my iPod. I would not reccomend this album to anyone, nor will I ever purchase Cast Away. Look people, yes, there is a pretty cover, but save yourself a headache, and don't buy this.

2 out of 5 stars Get Cast Away instead.......2005-04-22

When you first open the CD, you notice a group photo of the band on the back of the inlay. The female vocalist has her eyes shut, she blinked during the photo shoot. It made the back of the CD. Something is horribly wrong here - wait till you put the disc in your player. This album features their demo, so you get the 3 demo songs and then the "new" studio versions of them. Unfortunely, the production and mixing of the album sounds completely rushed through. If Nightwish and Sonata Arctica got together in a parallel universe and completely sucked, this is the result. The male vocals are terrible. The female vocals are pitchy in parts. The music gets loose where you can hear someone playing too fast or slow, then they catch up or slow down. Whoever mixed this album should be fired; things get too loud, then too soft, then the vocals get too quiet - the sound dynamics are all over the place. I would have thought this album was a DEMO, but oddly enough, the VOCALS AND MIX OF THE 3 DEMO TRACKS SOUND GOOD. So in their studio reproduction, they destroyed the quality of the original demo songs. This album should have been their "demo" but instead it's their 1st album. Get this just for those "original version" demo tracks - otherwise, get CAST AWAY. It's 100% better and worthy of calling a first album. If I were Visions of Atlantis, I would be sure this album disappears and never sees the light of day....unless they re-record it again in the future because the music is worthy if you look past all of the mistakes, so I give it 2 stars for effort instead of 1.

5 out of 5 stars Eternal Endless Infinity.......2005-07-25

Recommended for fans of Nightwish, Edenbridge and Epica.

This is a beautiful disc, with very few faults. The two vocalists (male and operatic female), both excellent, are a bit too far back in the mix. This leaves them somewhat overwhelmed by the keyboards. Nevertheless, those keyboards are wonderful -- a mix of symphonic metal and electronica. The songwriting is strong with plenty of memorable melodies. Highlights are Silence, Mermaid's Winter Tale, Chasing the Light and the beautiful Eclipse and Atlantis Farewell.

If Visions of Atlantis can fix their production problems, they should have a long and prosperous future. Personally, I can't wait to hear their new album.

2 out of 5 stars Not bad..... 2 1/2 stars. .......2005-05-18

One of this band's biggest influences is (guess who) Nightwish-- and it shows. A lot. Namely in the keyboards, which sound almost identical to the ones in Oceanborn. If you are a NW fan at all you'll notice this, and it can either be pleasantly familiar, or plain annoying.

This CD's major flaw is that the production is awful. Sometimes you can barely hear the vocals, which are weak-sounding as it is. The songs themselves are good, but the dull quality sort of keeps them from being enjoyable.

I'd recommend VoA's next CD, Cast Away, much more than this one. It has a new male singer, better production, and they've gotten rid of their attempts at "death vocals." Go ahead and buy Eternal Endless Infinity if you're a fan of the style, but don't expect anything to rival a band like Nightwish.

2 out of 5 stars A good effort, but sounds like a demo.......2005-02-01

Well like everyone else, I am a Nightwish fan, so when this band was suggested to me, I bought this CD. The first song is okay, but after that, I stop paying attention. The music is good, but not great...maybe it's the production. The vocals are, imo, the best female vocals next to Tarja. I think the comparison to Angels Fall First is a good comparison - this is almost like a demo.

All in all, I wouldn't spend money on this CD unless you're a diehard fan of bands that sound like Nightwish, but they have a ton of potential...and I look forward to hearing their future releases as they mature.

4 out of 5 stars "GREAT".......2004-10-11

I am a huge fan of Nightwish, they are my favorite band. I was impressed when I first listened to this band. This cd reminds me of Angels Fall First. The reason I didn't give it five stars was for 2 reasons. 1: the male vocals. I don't like his voice and it takes away from hers. 2. the production isn't that great. If you can get a hold of their new Cd Cast Away, you will be pleasantly suprised. They changes male vocalists and the production has improved. Emppu from Nightwish also plays a guitar solo. All in all, an impressive debut.

3 out of 5 stars Decent release but could be better........2004-10-08

This bands music should appeal to Nightwish and symp. metal in general. The music it`s self is well writen and interesting.Since Nightwish is my favorite band they would get 5 stars from me but I could only give 3 stars for two reasons.First, the prodution on this CD is mediocor at best which gives a the music a muddy sound. And 2nd,they over used the male vocalist in the most of the songs. The male singer wasn`t very good but the female singer was pretty good but not as good as Tarja of Nightwish.Hopefully if the band continues to use a male and female singers that they will look for a better male singer.
