New Jersey hinted that Jon Bon Jovi wished to be taken as seriously as Bruce Springsteen; Keep the Faith confirms that notion. However, Jon Bon Jovi is the man who sang "I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all" without so much as smirking. That's why the songs on Keep the Faith where Bon Jovi attempts profundity--like the interminable, pointless "Dry Country"--are virtually unlistenable, and why ear candy such as "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" and "Bed of Roses" is harmlessly beguiling. --Andrew Mueller

5 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi's finest hour........2007-06-03

After both Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora released solo albums and a four-year hiatus, the duo joined forces to release Keep the Faith, which was meant to be a more serious album right from the get-go. Besides carrying the band's arena rock anthems, it was also meant to be a nod to the working-class ethics of Bruce Springsteen, focusing heavily on thoughtout lyrics and messages -- and it became a success.

The Springsteen influence is remarkable on the album opener "I Believe": it merges the signature Bon Jovi sound treated to a more updated version and the gospel revivalist feel of Springsteen songs. Sambora's guitar wail is carefully placed under the thick bass stomp and Bon Jovi's trademark screams, but the melody is gripping and infectious. As with earlier releases, Desmond Child helped them finish two other hits: the ambitious title track, driven by an amazing vocal delivery, profound lyrics, and Torres' drum syncopation; and the more upbeat number "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", which revisits the band's earlier hook-laden cuts, chock full of catchy choruses and harmony vocals.

The reason why Keep the Faith stands out from its predecessor is certainly the inclusion of songs exhibiting more maturity and depth. "Dry Country", at nearly minutes, is an amazing melodic hard rocker graced by a timeless melody. The piano theme that sets the tone of the piece is cleverly repeated during the pre-chorus and simultaneously as the lyrics are delivered -- it's a sign of Jon Bon Jovi's mastery of hook and songwriting. Even Richie Sambora, whose guitar work has always been behind the band's crushing rhythm section, gets to put his lead playing on display, cutting it loose for a good two minutes.

Likewise, while still serving his pop-driven rock ballads in the form of "I Want You", Jon Bon Jovi also begins to show signs of artistic growth as both a lyricist and musician. The combination of "In These Arms" and "Bed of Roses" is easily the band's most powerful one-two punch ballad ever. The former sees considerable input by David Bryan; he injects neat keyboard work which introduces the main melody for Jon to sing over and add his own touch to it. The latter, on the other hand, is quite possibly the band's most moving song to date. Its beautiful guitar intro, piano motif, and the profoundly emotive vocal style are hard to match in the poppy spectrum of hard rock. Though they may have had bigger hits on the charts, "Bed of Roses" is the band at their most expressive, and Jon Bovi Jovi at his songwriting best.

More guitar-based songs also appear on the CD, such as the bass-rich "If I Was Your Mother" with a cool chorus; the blues-inflected "Blame It on the Love of Rock & Roll" with its relentless rhythm groove; and the unapologetically loud "Woman in Love", driven by Jon Bon Jovi's repeated chorus shout.

In many ways, Keep the Faith is the band's finest moment. Unlike their albums released in the 80's, it has a more timeless quality to it and crosses the boundaries of happy-go-lucky pop rock tunes that formed much of that era. Sadly, with the follow-up to this record, These Days, Bon Jovi would lose their appeal to many a long-time fan whilst winning over a whole new legion of followers. They have always been a band that managed to keep up-to-date with what achieves stardom.

5 out of 5 stars Bonjovi-Keep the Faith.......2007-05-18

BonJovi can be mis-labeled as typical heavy-metal boiler-factory decibel-bashing rock band vying for a top spot on the charts & in the music stores. But if Any Album atests to this group's deep well of Talent, it is "Keep the Faith". BonJovi very impressively runs the gamut here from Blues to Ted Nugent' level of intense rock, & ballards even varied in theme from bruised love to emotional uplift. "In life there comes a rain, but you gotta keep the faith". Life at everyday angles are what BonJovi can bring out in a way that says Yes, that's me, how'd they know i needed that song to get me through this muck.
There are lots of great Rock albums but there are few that out-distance the range of versatility and depth that "Keep the Faith" keeps presenting throughout every song. If you've ever come across an album that has a mysterious healing balm for the soul, this one you will notice also resurges your mind, body and spirit. Give it a Shot, and it will give you the boost you needed.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2007-05-04

I heard Keep the Faith on the radio the other day and ventured onto Amazon to find the CD. WoW! This rocks. There is not one song that I couldn't listen to over and over. Bon Jovi should produce another CD like this one. Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars BON JOVI MATURES AND COMES OF AGE WITH KEEP THE FAITH........2007-02-12

I will be writing a review on the legendary album entitled "KEEP THE FAITH" by one of Rock's greatest bands and one of America's most favorite sons. I give you one of New Jersey's pride and joy's, the one and only, BON JOVI. "KEEP THE FAITH" was originally released in 1992 on Compact Disc on the Mercury Records label in association with PolyGram Records. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

Going into the new decade of the 1990's, BON JOVI would still be enjoying the fruits and excesses to its fullest that the good life has to offer as a result of their increasing popularity which would now be compared with another legendary fellow New Jersey native icon, The Boss himself, MR. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. BON JOVI would now be taken seriously as a legitimate Rock n' Roll force to be reckened with which elevated the legend of this band further on top of the world. With all of this in mind, BON JOVI were better than ever which continued burning on fire with every album they recorded and were now a big concert draw attraction everywhere they went. Their fan base just kept growing while more women continued flocking to their concerts more than ever from everywhere around the globe just to get a glipse of them. With the huge and enormous success of their legendary party albums "SLIPPERY WHEN WET" from 1986 and the album which bares the name of the band's own home state "NEW JERSEY" from 1988, everything BON JOVI touched turned into gold. But despite all of the huge successes of their albums and their escalating fame and fortune, BON JOVI still would not rest on their fame and fortune alone or their laurels. At the same time, BON JOVI was going through some changes called life. BON JOVI were now showing starting signs of maturity with age and were now gradually growing out of their party stage. These new changes in the band would forever change and affect their music as musicians and songwriters in a more positive way. It was now time for BON JOVI, or should I say lead singer and frontman Jon Bon Jovi, lead and rhythm guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Alec John Such, keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico "The Hit Man" Torres to head back into the recording studio and record the new follow-up album to the extremely successful "NEW JERSEY" album. Again, the usual questions would now arise on everyone's mind, can BON JOVI do it again and top the "NEW JERSEY" album? The whole world would soon get their answer. BON JOVI would record, complete and hand in to Mercury Records, a new album that would describe the band's new personality and begin a whole new era for BON JOVI, "KEEP THE FAITH." In my opinion, "KEEP THE FAITH" ranks with their best albums to date. "KEEP THE FAITH" is also a more serious down to earth album with powerful lyrics not heard before on their prior albums.

"KEEP THE FAITH" has a far better mature Rock n' Roll sound which is being supported with superior lyrics. In my opinion, "KEEP THE FAITH" is a message for the whole world which is easy to figure out. BON JOVI still has their own special blend sound fully in tact and it shows when you hear the Rockers such as the powerful "I Believe," the realistic "Keep The Faith," the anthem of the 90's "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead," "In These Arms," the rockin' "If I Was Your Mother," the ten minute ballad turned Rocker "Dry County," the vintage BON JOVI Rocker "Woman In Love," the haunting Rocker "Fear," the passionate soulful Rocker "Blame It On The Love Of Rock & Roll" and the heartfelt Rocker "Little Bit Of Soul." Believe me when I say that Richie Sambora just tears these Rockers up with his masterful well skilled guitar playing. Richie really kicks a*s in more ways than one.

BON JOVI would also record two slow beautiful Rock ballads which would show a more humbler side of the band. In my opinion, the legendary "Bed Of Roses" and "I Want You" are among the band's best ever slow ballads. Jon Bon Jovi sings all of these Rockers with a more mature polished sound never heard or felt on the previous albums. On top of that, the powerful lyrics just adds more life to their songs which solidifies the power and energy of the whole album.

I would like to highly recommend buying this legendary album for everyone to own as a valuable and important part of their own personal music collection. This incredible album will definitely stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.

In closing, despite the huge success of "KEEP THE FAITH," the BON JOVI legend still does not even come close to ending here. In reality, it is still only the beginning. BON JOVI'S place in Rock n' Roll history is now well secured and will never be forgotten. Now considered legitimate icons, BON JOVI would move on to better green pastures and record more great albums than ever before. With this in mind, there would still be more tales and stories in the BON JOVI legend that would still need to be conquered, told and written in new pages and chapters in their storied career. But that, my fellow readers and reviewers, you will have to stay tuned and read about at a later date. So here's to you Jon, Richie, David, Tico and Alec. I hope this review did you more justice and added more to your legend. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. BON JOVI RULES. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

2 out of 5 stars Not My Style.......2007-05-11

This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

5 out of 5 stars Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Western Music.......2005-07-29

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

5 out of 5 stars A great follow-up.......2003-08-29

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

If Faith Evans's self-titled debut was inexplicably entwined in the rise of the Bad Boy empire, her eagerly anticipated follow-up, Keep the Faith, has been further steeped in the history of hip-hop--before anyone heard a note. There are plenty of ballads here ("No Way" and "Lately I" being the best), and Evans doesn't hesitate to mine her emotional turmoil for lyrical material, but it's the welcome inclusion of sublime mid-tempo grooves ("Sunny Days," "Life Will Pass You By") and party jams like "All Night Long" that make this album a sure-fire classic. Forget the hype and enjoy the sound of Evans's gospel-trained voice riding the old-school beats in the addictive "Love Like This." The most interesting thing about this album is not Evans's personal trials but that despite them, her voice is still as sweet as the caramel kisses she sings about. --Rebecca Wallwork

After Biggie's death, this album really puts her emotions out there and she releases an excellent follow-up to her debut album. This is an album for someone whose going thru a situation and need someone to relate to going thru similar situations. It's a little on the dark side because there aren't many uplifting songs, but the Faith fans will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Happily avoided the curse of the sophomore slump.......2007-01-10

After releasing her excllent first CD,Faith really blew up when she appeared on the tribute song for her late husband Biggie Smalls. The first two singles, the irresistible dance/R&B cut Love Like This and its follow-up, the equally intoxicating All Night Long which still make me dance or roller skate. The ballads on the CD are also a strong point including the excllent Babyface written Never Gonna Let You and the sensual 112 featured Careml Kisses. All in all a fine album that highlights nineties soul at it's best.

5 out of 5 stars This is one of my all time favorite albums..........2005-12-22

You know those albums that you can just put on and not skip a track or program your favorites or anything... Just let it play. This is one of those. Every song is at least 4 stars. My favorites:

My First Love - this song makes me cry every time... it's just beautiful. I don't know this for a fact, but I imagine that she is talking about Biggie. Just my guess.
Love Like This - a club BANGA!! The reason why I bought the album... I remember when this song came out. I was pregnant and couldn't get enough of it. LOL.
Keep The Faith - so inspirational!

Yes, this review is 7 years old, but if you have the chance, pick up this album and get some FAITH!

5 out of 5 stars Faith is excellent!.......2005-07-22

Faith Evans is someone I always overlooked when it came to purchasing R&B records. My loss. Eventually I saw the light... when at a CD store this cd was $5 used, so I decided to give her a try.
I was blown away by the depth of her voice and range she has. Faith style is similar to Kelly Price which is never a down side at all. I love when artists use their lyrics and runs to get their point across than some sexy video or beside another rapper.
I love Faith's slow jams like NO Way and Anything you need! This girl can blow! Why can't she get some more love?
My favs: Lately I, Carmel Kisses, No Way, Anything you need, and Love like this.
This album Keep the Faith is definitely an R&B classic!

4 out of 5 stars The Last Great Bon Jovi Record. .......2006-07-10

Some previous reviewers called this the last great record by Bon Jovi. This is an opinion that I am somewhat inclined to agree with. To be sure, the records that follow "Keep the Faith" have some great moments. But this was the last one to have real consistency and a good edge. Starting with # 4 "New Jersey," Bon Jovi started to change his direction of music. On this 6th record, he continues to try some different things, but he does provide his old 80s fans with some decent tracks. The record begins with 'I believe.' This is most akin to "New Jersey's" 'Lay Your Hands On Me.' (A good opener, but not in the zone of 'Slippery When Wet.) Then comes the title track. 'Keep the Faith' is also a great "New Jersey" type song with a good chorus. 'Sleep When I'm Dead' is a nice almost square dance song with a rock edge. 'In These Arms' is akin to "New Jersey's" 'Wild Is The Wind' and 'I'll Be There For You.' A great song with emotion and a moderate rock edge. 'Bed of Roses' is a nice piano edged tune. It's unlike anything on his previous records, and it shows that Bon Jovi is willing to try new things. I didn't much like 'If I Was Your Mother.' But one could probably find some way to advocate for it. 'Dry County' is a long, but good song. It's a well done social awareness song. Moving on, 'Women' sounds like an attempt to recreate a "Slippery When Wet" tone. But it is the track 'Fear' where Bon Jovi really does succeed in giving us a taste of the "Slippery When Wet" days. 'All I Wanted Was You' is a bit clicheish. But if you can get past this, it is alright. 'Blame It On the Love of Rock & Roll' is a really catchy song that reflects "New Jersey." 'Little Bit O Soul' is somewhat low key, but some people like the last song on a record to be so. Despite the fact that Bon Jovi showed that he could manage alone on "Blaze of Glory," it was really nice that he and the group got back together to make this great reunion record. While it offers some new touches, Bon Jovi did not forget his old 80s fans.

5 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi's Answer To The 90's Grunge Bands.......2004-07-26

What I like best about this album is the maturity they showed. After playing with the best of the hair-metal bands in the 80's (ex. Poison, Winger, etc.), this was a great way to keep the Bon Jovi fans of the world happy. Great ballads and rockers, keep this album at the top of my best of the 90's list. The longer songs they put together on here also was a plus from the 3 minute grunge rock of this time. It takes me 3 minutes before I can even get into a song and this was epitimy of what mature music should sound like. Jon, Richie and the rest of the band are on the top of there game here and I don't think any of the cd's after this one really reach the beauty of this album as a whole. I highly recommend this album to Bon Jovi fans old and new. After all they are the best New Jersey band.

4 out of 5 stars Simply Put - Bon Jovi at their Best.......2004-07-08

When Bon Jovi hit it big in 1986, the music industry was ready for them. At this time, the sound of pop music was moving away from synthesizers and hard rock was becoming much more a part of the 80s landscape. Bon Jovi would parlay this into superstardom with the release of "Slippery When Wet". They would soon follow-up with "New Jersey" in 1989 which continued to ride the hard rock wave. By the time 1992 came along, Bon Jovi would face much more of a challenge for two reasons: 1) It is very hard for a group to have a follow-up to a successful follow-up (i.e. a follow-up to "New Jersey"); and 2) Alternative music was now beginning to take over as the pop music sound, so hard rock was beginning to decline from the pop music scene. With the release of "Keep the Faith", Bon Jovi not only meets the challenge, but would release what probably is their best album of their careers - while still maintainingsolid commercial music sales. What is nice about this effort by Bon Jovi is that they will remain true to their "Arena Rock" roots as well as explore some new directions showing that they can not only be creative, but keep up with the times. Finally, this album is the most complete effort by the band - with every member getting a chance to shine on the collection.

Although the album is titled "Keep the Faith", the song "Keep the Faith" isn't the first song. Bon Jovi picked the song "I Believe" for the first song. This is a true "Arena Rock" song and the perfect song to open the collection with. Bon Jovi rocks hard in this song. The real star of this song is going to be drummer Tico Torres who is going to have some thundering percussions that will really steal this song. The "Arena Rock" roots continue with the title track "Keep the Faith". Sometimes Alec John Such is the forgotten member of Bon Jovi, but his bass work won't go unnoticed in this particular song. While Jon Bon Jovi's vocals are awesome in this song, it is Jon's spoken words about 2/3 of the way into the song ("Walking in the Footsteps...") that really make an impact.

Things begin to take a different a different spin in "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead". This song almost sounds like mid 1990s Bryan Adams song (perhaps Adams was influenced by the band). This song doesn't have the "arena rock" feel of previous works by Bon Jovi and almost has a bluesy beat to it. This time its David Bryan's keyboards that are going to surface in this song. Another song that has a similar Adams-like feel to it will be "Blame It on The Love of Rock and Roll". Finally, a third song that will have a the blues feel is the final track "Little Bit of Soul". Both of these songs show that Bon Jovi is ready to branch out into new directions.

Without a doubt, the best song on this album is "In These Arms". This may be the best song ever done by the band. In 1993, this song did get some radio airplay, but it seemed to disappear from the airwaves within a few years. This song has a lot of intensity and passion. Everyone in the band - Jon's vocals, Richie Sambora's guitar, David's keyboards, Alec's bass, and Tico's percussion all have their moments in the song. Jon probably is the real star of the song - showing as good a vocal range as he showed in any Bon Jovi song. You really feel that Jon wants the woman he refers to in this song - "In These (his) Arms". This song does have more of a pop feel that an Arena Rock feel, but whatever it is - everything just clicks perfectly here.

The song "Bed or Roses" is more of an epic-like song. This song has a softer feel, but once again Jon's vocals come to the forefront on this song. You'll hear the passion in his voice as he sings.

Track 7 is perhaps a track that really shows that Bon Jovi has matured and arrived on the scene. The track "Dry County" takes more of a historical perspective and this is an area I never saw Bon Jovi go in before. "Dry County" is a masterpiece discussing the plight of those who went into the great west in search of oil and prosperous farming back in the late 1800s. Here again is another new direction by the band and this works perfectly. The song may be almost 10 minutes long, but you won't get tired of it.

Songs such as "Woman in Love" and "Fear" won't disappoint. They will remain true to the roots of the Bon Jovi sound. The song "I Want You" is a bit of a letdown - this almost has a start to a song that would follow this album called "Always" which is a very pop-ish Bon Jovi ballad.

The collection has some nice liner notes. All of the lyrics and songwriting credits are included. There is a page included for credits and "thank yous". Perhaps the only let-down about the liner notes is that when the band members are listed, the corresponding instruments they play are not (a disadvantage for new Bon Jovi fans). Overall, this is Bon Jovi at their peak in their careers and this album comes highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Stranded on a Desert Island Recently?.......2003-11-25

You'd be much better off if this was the disc you chose. (6 million stars, but I seem not to have been able to find that voting option).

Let's get right to the heart of the matter, shall we? On "Keep the Faith," one of the best albums ever recorded (if not the best), "Dry County" is one of the best songs ever (if not THE best). It is an auditory testament to a) how good this band can be, b) the concept of perfection, and c) the purpose of music on Earth. A doctoral thesis could be written on the purpose and power of the near 10 minute epic in the haunting key of d minor that sits at the number 7 track position on this recording, and I am hard pressed to not start writing one here. But I need to get through the whole album in 1000 words...

You've got Stairway, Freebird, Layla, Bohemian Rhapsody, and a simple answer as to why LESS than 2 million people of the entire American population are lucky enough to possess the knowledge that "Dry County" is pretty much the peak of musical epics: it was written by a) Bon Jovi, b) an "80's band", c) an "80's band" in the NINETIES, and d) never released as a domestic single, thus not generating the grape-vine mystique that safe, ridicule-immune "70's bands" wound up scooping up with all of their "legendary" anthems. For the last time: Bon Jovi, for all of their popularity, will always be under-respected, and there's nothing cheesy about any of this.

If you read on, you may learn something before slamming this review for being narcissistic and preachy. "Keep the Faith" was an album released on November 3, 1992. Only Jovi and Aerosmith (with the tail end of the GNR train) were surviving into the era that was the beginning of the still-obvious crash of quality "commercial" music as we know it. The most important thing for any Jovi supporter to know is that this album, albeit without any real marketing effects of the "Dry County" epic, was a huge reason for the band to be able to still be calling their careers a success into their THIRD decade now. Smash hit single "Bed of Roses" pushed album sales hard (and appropriately, as this song itself is a 6 minute artistic and commercial triumph), as well as did lesser, more "supportive sellers" but equally great pieces of music, "In These Arms," "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead," and the title track. To my immense shock, only 2 million copies have been moved. What's more, many regard Bon Jovi's career as largely dormant in the 90's! That, coupled with people saying this is ok but no "classic", has me yet again scratching my head at the general public. Who and what defines "classic?" anyway?

But Jon, Richie, David, Tico, and Alec did make some noise with this masterpiece, keeping their reunited heads above the debris-filled undertoe called the 90's. Being big as ever outside of America, their touring (allowing the public to see a more rocking, jamming and driving side to them) fueled their stance at not being an 80's throwaway. And for all the people who hate Bon Jovi, they couldn't stop this band from achieving something VERY lucky and VERY deserved: for the next few years, Bon Jovi stuck to their guns and cohabitated with all the other bands that were essentially Bon Jovi's antithesis. Somehow, they survived the public execution of the rest of the "80's bands", and from those battle scars, they now have carte blanche to make music to the end, big sellers or not. So that, boys and girls, is how the catchy but thin "It's My Life" single and "Crush" album were able to still have a shot with record company promotion and make some people aware for the first time of a Jersey band known as Bon Jovi...20 years after the fact. Well, better late than never to have a 3rd comeback.

The specifics:

There is no filler on this album. NONE. There is creativity and emotion of the highest level. If you are one of those people who finds Bon Jovi to be just a bit too light for you, this is your album (Check out the metallic thomping on "If I Was Your Mother" and "Fear"). If you are a sucker for the ballads, this is your album (Aside from "Bed of Roses," "I Want You" is perhaps their best ballad ever, a template for the derived future hit "Always"). If you respect Richie but aren't big on Bon Jovi, this is your album ("Dry County" and "Keep the Faith" have the most ungodly solos you'll ever hear). If you prefer their bluesier moments, this is your album ("Little Bit O Soul").
THE DIVERSITY - I NEVER get bored of this album, over a decade after when it came out (I bought it on the release date). It's respectable for musicians to do different things - it's nothing short of divine if it all comes together and actually works.

I know it sounds shallow to judge something the "greatest ever," and I do know there's a huge difference between one's FAVORITE and what one considers to be the BEST.... but I don't use those terms loosely. I can't believe how few people give this album the royal treatment it so earnestly deserves. And especially the critics! Never trust them anyway, but it's heartbreaking to read how ignorant some people are atleast in one area, that being the band that is Bon Jovi. Not so long ago, this album was huge. Now, between "Livin on a Prayer," "Always," and "It's My Life," all of the sudden it's one of their LESSER KNOWN(????). I'm just righting a subjective wrong - and with words, not bombs. Just goes to show you what's up with this crazy messed up world we live in, from the small scale to the grand. Keep the Faith.

4 out of 5 stars for the faithful fans.......2002-11-28

Bon Jovi rocks once again...and they guys do it BIG TIME!
The more the press was talking about a possible break up within the band, the more these boys proved them wrong.
The opening track I BELIEVE is a statement of confidence, KEEP THE FAITH is a plead to fans not to believe the hype and BLAME IT ON THE LOVE OF ROCK & ROLL explains it all in its title.
Jon delivers three great ballads: IN THESE ARMS (very arena-anthem-like...we sung on top of our lungs at their 1993 concert...), BED OF ROSES is maybe a bit over-rated, and I WANT YOU is the closest to a Diane Warren style song.
And then comes my favourite: IF I WAS YOUR MOTHER is the stand out nugget: would you let me be as close to you as your beloved mom?...
Desmond Child is part of the party also this time (I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD is sooo much of a fun rock tune!).
I only have a complaint: 4 years always in between albums??? Guys your releases are the long-awaited kind!

....but it ultimately fails. I just can't get behind it. Everything seems off tempo or out of tune, and the violin or cello that is supposed to portray Jon's voice is just annoying and sounds closer to a cat in heat than Jon Bon Jovi.

1 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi???.......2004-01-21

As a huge fan of Bon Jovi, I was mistaken in thinking this had anything to do with the group as opposed to the group writing these songs at one time - It's as if a string quartet of some pretty good musicians recorded Jovi's songs with a fiddle as Jon's voice - I'm sorry, but I should have done without.

5 out of 5 stars A stunning and pleasant surprise.......2003-12-06

I was browsing the music section of a store in October and under the Bon Jovi listing, I happened upon this tribute album. I had never heard of this before, and being the rabid fan that I am, as well as having an appreciation for classical music, I decided to pick it up. I wasn't really sure what to expect from it, as Jon Bon Jovi's voice can not be substituted by anything.

With that being said, I was blown away by this album. While it is true that some songs (Bed of Roses, Always, I'll Be There for You) would naturally translate into the smooth flowing music created by a string quartet, the tracks originally sounding harder (It's My Life, Everyday, Lay Your Hands On Me) take on a flavor all their own.

If you have never listened to Bon Jovi before (shame on you two or three people), I advise you to listen to the original songs, then see how well they have translated into this form. For the rest of us, who already know how many faces have been seen and all of us who have been rocked, get this disc while it lasts.

5 out of 5 stars The hard second record - the BOA concept passed the test.......2007-02-14

This record is a good follow up to their first self titled album. Two songs are extreemly good "Fever in My Mind" and "Short Life Line". The other songs are good as well, but these two are outstanding! However BOA do not manage to make songs as good and catchy as Hot and Nasty on their first album. But who cares? "Keep the Faith" is sadly starting to be difficult to find. I bought mine 2nd handed through Amazon UK. Definitively worth it! However the cover is slightly different from the one pictured here (without the yellow border). My favourite BOA album are "Ain't Life Grand" and is probably easier to find.

When I was a sophomore in high school(1971), I went to see my very 1st concert-my Rock N' Roll heroes,Grand Funk R.R.Well,this unknown band called Black Oak Arkansas (cool name,we thought),opened the show. You would have thought that Metallica had hit the stage(for you youngsters)'cuz 'back in the day' these guys were MONSTERS in concert!Back then, really long hair(guys)was the coolest & all 6 of these guys hit the stage 'moshing'their long lox with this never-before mix of hard rock, bluegrass & country with the forerunner to Diamond Dave on lead vocals-the one & only Jim 'Dandy' Mangrum! These guys were totally original sounding, and nobody compares to them, even today. We heard a great bunch of tunes from their debut album(awesome-even 'live'& never heard before!)and two from an 'upcoming 2nd album-"Fever In My Mind"(the opener!!) & "White-Headed Woman". Let me tell you-we RAN out & found their debut and became instant fans! Then we waited for what seemed like forever(ah,youth) for the release of this, their 2nd l.p. to hear the other 2 aforementioned tunes we saw them play 'live'. This entire album, along with the next 3 or 4, are a great'slice of Americana'raunch 'n' roll!!'-as they later called their raucus brand of hillbilly metal.BOA-a 'one-of-a-kind' original!

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent album yet mostly unknowen.......2002-02-26

Keep The Faith is an Excellent album yet its mostly unknown. BOA merges Sex, Religion and Rock N Roll on this one and they do it well. With Jim Dandy's unique vocals and 4 excellent musicians BOA was on of the 70s best rock bands. I love every song on Keep The Faith, the lyrics are BOAs best and the music is outstanding. Keep The Faith is a nice catchy pop/rock song with a spiritual flavor. Fever In My Mind is one of the fastest sang songs in rock n roll history and a very good song. The Big One Is Still Coming hits close to home for me, I was born and raised in Southern California. White Headed Women and Short Life Line are two fine Love (sexual) songs. Don't Confuse what You Don't Know, We Live On Day To Day (an Excellent song), Feet On Earth- Head in Sky are all songs bordering on the spiritual and/or religious. Every song on Keep the faith is very good to excellent. If you gonna get one BOA album (CD) get this one if your gonna get two get this one and Raunch N Roll Live.

      Album Description

Leo Smit has an impressive pedigree as an American composer and musician. A virtuoso pianist, he has worked closely with such legends as Stravinsky, Balanchine, Copland and Stokowski. He has set more that 75 of Emily Dickinson's poems to music, grouping the works into cycles about related subject matter. The disc contains the world premiere recordings of three of those cycles- Childe Emilie- Memories and Fantasies of Childhood, The Celestrial Thrush- Songs of Music and Bird, and The White Diadem- Songs About Poets and Poetry. Smit's songs display great sensitivity to Dickinson's very personal world, and reflect the poet's emotional range by adopting an extremely colorful palette. The songs frequently veer from the simple and tonal to more rhythmically complex and chromatic settings, always alert to word and mood.

5 out of 5 stars Keep the Faith Making a Come Back.......2003-06-22

Isn't it a miracle that Michael O'Brien's song, 'Back to You' had a transcending calling to make this great album a come back. The album is being promoted on TV by those who have heard it. One such buyer said it was "..hope in a small box." I do have to agree with them. It overflows with blessed talent and vocals. Who can go wrong with these list of artists like, Bob Carlisle (Butterfly Kisses), Greg Long (the 'Jesus' song), Kim Hill, Avalon, Amy Morriss, Sandi Patty, CeCe Winans, Steven Curtis Chapman, Kathy Troccoli, Point of Grace-among other great artists. If you're having a stressful day just turn on this CD and let your anxiety melt away. The kind of lyrics and soothing music does make a difference in a person health and well-being. I have to say that Christian music is the best soother of the spirit. And the songs on this album are exceptionally helpful. Just Keep the Faith!
