Bad Boys.......2002-01-27

It was 1985 and I was working in Boerne, Texas when I first heard Pretty Maids. They were being played on KMAC/KISS, out of San Antonio, by a DJ named Joe Anthony. The vocals, guitar wizardry of Ken Hammer, the classical laced keyboards and excellent rhythm section had me hooked. Ian Gillan also does guest vocals on a Chritmas song, "A Merry Jingle". It unfortunately took 16 years to find the song, but "Fantasy" now plays on my CD player, instead of just inside my head. First Cuts and then Some is taken from what was their first album and special singles released in Japan, where the band was a huge success.

If I were to point someone towards a "best" disc to buy from Pretty Maids it would be Future World! Back to this disc, though, good cuts include "City Light", "Children of Tomorrow", "Nowhere to Run" and a great live version of "Red Hot & Heavy". If you like checking out the starting point of a band this is a good disc to try, if you're looking for the focal point then it would be Future World, although you might try Jump the Gun, as well. If you're a Rock enthusiast this is more of that great stuff you didn't hear, because some program director at that dorky radio station you used to listen to was trying to prevent you from enjoying music too much!
