The Identity series is among the best of the samplers you're going to find. Maybe not if you are looking for a specific kind of metal, because these samplers offer a veriety of sub-genres in the metal spectrum. The diversity is astounding. The only complaint I have is sometimes they put a track or two of that nu-metal crap on them. Half of my cd catalogue is owed to the Identity series. So many interesting bands, so little time.
Power metal, Death metal, Post-core, thrash, ambient, Black.

How can you fault a label that has either founde or ressurected so many great bands?

Century Media beats the Metal Blade comps, big time.

Hmm not a whole lot to say about this one,Possibly one of the worst metal samplers i own(good thing it ony cost a few bucks).Its basically just full of mediocre bands (never more being the exception),God forbid arent too bad either but nothing special.If you like bland average metal and hardcore tunes grab it but Number 6 is a hell of a lot better.

Most of the identities are worth checking out until number 6, but #7 marks not only a change in the quality of these compilations, but also of the Century Media label itself. As Century Media has grown, it has been signing on more accessible artists (Think the simple My ruin). While Century Media has never shied away from giving us hardcore, the bands have become more and more conventional.

Even the CM veterans are losing steam. "jack" is one of Iced Earth's worst tracks. While I whole heartedly reccommend their new "dead reckoning", HOrror show was a mediocre album.

Krisiun's contribution is uncharacteristically dull, as is Cryptopsy's, Stuck Mojo's and Skin Lab's.

Lacuna Coil has become simple heavy rock (at least the gathering experiments a bit), and Sigh are inexplicably asleep with their track. I never thought such a talented band would do something so boring.

The best track is Nevermore's "River dragon has come" which is the best track off of "dead heart in a dead world", also their worst album (which is still very good by nevermore standards!)

Newer additions such as Candiria are WAY over hyped--they dont hold a flame to metal core bands like DIllinger escape plan. Onward is some of the worst Traditional metal I have heard in quite some time--a sign the power metal trend is losing steam. Scar Culture, Forsaken, Carnal Forge,a nd eyehate god are just okay tracks.

A very dissappointing release i think...but luckily it's cheap. The same can be said for Identity 8. Let's hope it gets better from here. Century Media are still a very good label, but their track record is getting a little spotty.

4 out of 5 stars Really Cool V/A CD.......2001-08-01

This CD was a really cool various artists CD. It had a lot of cool music from artists well on their way to making it big and from artists that have already made it big. All the music is from upcoming albums by the artists.

Its a cheap CD and has a lot of really good stuff. Its well worth the $5 you pay for it. Take my advice and pick it up because you won't be disappointed.

The CD itself is a 80 minute capacity and the total music time is about 79:36. The people at Century Media filled the CD right up to the tippy top with tunes.
