Customer Reviews:
Roadhouse boogie.......2005-06-14
Hard driving rock with a little Texas style blues thrown in for good measure. Nitzinger was John Nitzinger's band before he joined PM or Alice Cooper and before he worked for Bloodrock. He writes and plays straight-up hard rock without the typical radio hooks (which is why you may have never heard of him or his band). If you have to choose between this CD and "One Foot in History", choose the latter, but if you can still find both, buy 'em both - stick 'em in the car's CD changer and drive. Oh, yeah, make sure your radar detector is working, because the music will make you want to put pedal to metal.
Gets No Better Than This.......2002-06-12
I tell you people-this and all Nitzinger releases are rock steady solid from start to finish-this dude was a major talent that i felt was often overlooked-I am old fan from the vinyl dayz good music like this only improves with age-from Johns Bloodrock days till this release he steadily advanced the perfection of his art-if you wanna hear that southern style Texas epitamy of purest rock blues this is the avenue to travel-not one single bad or weak song from amongst these trax you will have to search elsewhere and other artist for that-this dude delivers and then only delivers more, one of my favorite albums from any era-i am more than delighted to see his work in digital format of cd-do yourself a favor-let the rent go to get this one.
USDA approved, grain-fed Rock.......2001-05-15
Obscure but rewarding set of 70's hard rock, Texas style. Singer-songwriter-guitarist John Nitzinger struck out on his own after writing some songs for fellow Texan rockers Bloodrock and produced "Nitzinger" in 1972. Not quite as bluesy as Johnny Winter, Nitzinger could write some good poppy hooks within the hard rock context, which leads to speculation on what "could have been" (think .38 Special or Molly Hatchett). The most memorable song is "Witness To The Truth", which sounds like a "lost classic" upon first listen. The bad news about this particular import version is that it was obviously taken from a vinyl source, as a couple song intros are tellingly faded up in a rather sloppy fashion. "Four stars" for the contents.
Youth Revisited.......2000-12-29
I owned this album (yes album) many years ago, but somehow lost it in the shuffle of college record swapping. After many casual searches in local record stores, I concluded that I would never find a CD version of this classic. Since receiving it for Xmas, I haven't stopped smiling! If you love driving rythms and timeless guitar licks, you'll love this CD.
Saturday Night Rock at Its Best.......1999-06-17
If anyone feels better than an American on Saturday night, it's a Texan on Saturday night... just listen to "Louisiana Cockfight" for proof. Almost all of Side 1 features some of the best early 70s power-trio ever recorded. Kick-ass drumming too (from a gurl).
Do yourself a gigantic favor and listen to Side 1 of this immediately followed by Dust's self-titled album. Then do your damnedess to build a time machine to go back to 1971.

Customer Reviews:
Expensive!.......2004-09-28
Import or not, this thing costs over 60 dollars and, considering that's 60 dollars for essentially 3 albums (with 'bonus tracks'), even the most die-hard Nitzinger fan (such as myself) might survey this product with a critical eye. Of course, it's GREAT his first 3 LPs are available in CD format; especially the hard-to-find Live Better Electrically LP from 1976. However, the most of the 'bonus tracks' are but Nitzinger's 1999 retrograde sessions (available as Fingers In The Fan) where he simply covers his classic hits (all of which are already on this release) plus two new tunes (of debatable quality). Then there's the REAL bonus tracks: 3 cuts from the ultra-rare Thunder LP, none of which feature him singing, and the famous live version of 'Jelly Roll' from Mar Y Sol. That's it. No unreleased vintage material - disappointing! One CD is only 40 minutes, another under 50. Compensating for this paucity of goods, Akarma delivers lavish packaging; there's tons of cardboard here, yet even the booklet offers no unpublished photos, it simply furnishes the photos from the LPs. An expensive, yet ultimately stingy, box set - damn. Where's that Rutledge ballad album? Where's all that hot live stuff from the 70s? It's not here.
John Nitzinger Finally Gets Long Overdue Box Set Treatment!.......2001-09-22
Having been a fan of John Nitzinger since discovering his work with Texas hard rockers Bloodrock circa 1970, I was naturally delighted to discover this newly released imported box set of Nitzinger's classic first 3 albums on CD... with added bonus tracks, no less! Equally impressive to the sound on the discs themselves is the meticulous attention to detail that has been given to the packaging of this fantastic set! Without question, I must say that the entire package, from the reproduction of the 3 "mini-album covers" with gatefold covers to the large colorful lyric sheets and photos, this is absolutely the most beautiful box set I have ever had the pleasure to own! (My personal CD collection is very extensive with including many nice box sets.) Needless to say, musically, Nitzinger has never sounded better and the bonus tracks included on each disk (12 in all) are a real treat! The live verson of Jellyroll Blues from the Mar Y Sol Festival in Puerto Rico in 1972 finally appears, as does a number of re-recorded classic Nitzinger tracks that have apparently been taken from the Fingers In The Fan ('99) release. This box set is a dream come true for any hard rock or blues fan even if you have not discovered Nitzinger over the past 30 years. If you love straight ahead hard rock and roll in the vein of early Bloodrock, Jim Rutledge, Lee Pickens or even ZZ Top, you surely will enjoy Nitzinger. Congratulations to AKARMA Records for an absolutely superb job with John in the Box! It will not disappoint!
