Beautiful.......2007-07-06
What a record ! I haven't listened to them for a long time, but now this has become one of my favourite. Awesome production, brilliant throughout the way. Some majestic, satanic greatness is revealed by adding two top musicians who shred just awesome heart-ripping solos. Listen to "Homage For Satan", you'll understand ! What beautiful melodies. This record stands out breaking the cliches and the monotony of other bands. This one mixes the specific Deicide sound with new, incredible creative guitars and wonderful melodic solos. Get it !
Deicide moving up!.......2007-05-25
I just got this Cd and heard it. I'll say this you can tell it is certainly produced better and the joining of the two new guitar players made a big difference in the way Deicide sounds overall. Lyrically it is mostly then same Benton hooray about his hate for God and everything Christian but that is his problem. I'm still not convinced to be a devil worshipper. Anyway otherwise this is probaly the best Deicide album been made.
Deiwow.......2007-05-12
This by far has to be the best album Deicide has ever produced. I have tried to listen to previous Deicide albums in the past but never saw the genious behind them. I was actually skeptical upon purchasing this album but I had heard such praise I had to buy it. This album does not disappoint. I now have respect for Deicide after hearing this cd. This actually has to be one of the best death metal albums in my collection. Everything came together on this album. The song writing is tight. Every song on here is great.I think another reason the album was so great is because of Ralph Santolla and Jack Owen. These guys are a great guitar duo. Buy this cd without hesitation. I think the only problem with this cd is I listen to it too much.
A slight change of style for original Tampa Bay metal monsters Deicide.......2007-04-08
With the departure of the Hoffman brothers, Glen Benton has acquired himself two worthy replacements in the form of Ralph Santolla (ex-Iced Earth) and Jack Owen (classic Cannibal Corpse era). Now don't get me wrong, the Hoffman brothers will be missed, as they had a sound that was instantly recognizable. But Santolla and Owen also make their own mark on 'The Stench of Redemption' with an almost melodic battery of riffs that add a new dimension to the Deicide sound. Steve Asheim delivers his pinpoint-accurate, speed-of-sound drumming as always. And Glen Benton seems to command a better vocal mix here than on predecessor album 'Scars of the Crucifix'. Definitely among the best death metal releases of 2006.
A new lineup for Deicide proves to record their most provocative album to date..........2007-03-28
In an era where every single CD (despite of its strengths and weaknesses) has a tag line with "brutal" in it, Deicide is truly one of the few bands deserving of a brutal title.
This isn't just the best release since maybe Serpents of the Light. This is simply the best thing Deicide has ever created. With the addition of Jack Owen and Ralph Santolla on guitars, some true guitar skills have been added to the band. Where as the Hoffman brothers just spit out riffs written by Asheim and Benton. This album has the best production, fastest playing, and a surprising totally melodic aspect. Tons of harmonies and Meldodies without ever sounding compromised, sold-out, or softer in their appeal. Ripping solos with a lot of classical influence. And unlike all modern technical death metal, Deicide remain true to the straight-ahead classic death...but never get boring. In fact this album has more diversity than most death metal albums. The drumming isn't just one constant blast beat from opening to ending like everything else these days. Glen Benton's vocals are more brutal than ever (and he never tires with age), with utilization of the 3-Pitch Cobra. It is actually a very unique conquest.
This album is released with Earache which is reputable, as they are one of the few original underground metal labels that hasn't caved-in to signing endless amounts of talentless eye-liner and Castro hat bands.
Deicide have forged the Death Metal path, and still reign as masters. No death-core outfit could ever compare to these true originators.

Better than Dechristianize!.......2007-07-24
This one is even better than the last record! To me, it is an all around better product this time. I'll admit that I bought Dechristianize just b/c Glen was on vokills b/c I am huge Deicide fan. Once again, since I read that he was on vokills again I decided to check this one out!
The whole package is even better this time! Better Artwork, production, songwriting, better rythum riffs, better drum sound, just an all around better cd!! Killer artwork too!
If you enjoyed the last one with Glen then pick this monster of an album up, it's even better!
It should be Nothing Remains instead of Vital Remains!.......2007-06-08
It's a new album right? Got to be better right? WRONG! You take one look at the cover art and know exactly where they got their ideas. Just like it's prior album Dechristianize this album is over produced over done and still fails to be what it was intended to be if anything. Vital Remains is a poor man's Deicide. The idea I think Benton has is he can top his extreme value he has with Deicide with helping a group that tries too hard to be the top of the food chain in death metal with over the top lyrics and explicit artwork that in the final product looks like some cheap B rate horror classic nobody knows anything about and don't really care. This album is horrible for lack of better words. The production is really good but it falls down to a band that is just nothing more than a shadow of Benton's Deicide. He makes himself look really ridiculous by assisting in this band's attempt at decent death metal which they can't do. Save yourself some money and don't by this because you think the artwork is cool looking and the music will be also. You will be sadly dissappointed.
Not Again,same as last CD.......2007-05-28
I just heard the samples of Icons of evil. I'm sorry but this is nothing but noise just like the last cd. I have nothing bad to say about the band but what are you thinking? It's now selling for $4.99 The drums sound like a drum machine, are turn tables next? What ever happened to the real Vital Remains? Why can't you write like the 1992 Let Us Pray Album? Now that's Metal! I'm just as evil as the next but Dave maybe you should start your own band called vital chipmonks. That faster than fast metal is like listening to The Bay City Rollers on 78 rpm.
jbell
Great CD!!!.......2007-05-23
Glen Benton and the guys do it again! Another great CD! It is just as good as their Dechristianize CD. If you can you should definitely add it to your collection.
Jon P.......2007-05-12
Ignore Jon P lawl. if you liked Dechristianize get this, all i have to say. for that matter i'll even plug the latest Deicide album aswell, they seem to have gotten back on the right track.
as for Jon P, talentless...you're clearly an idiot, never in your life time will you play anything that fast on any instrument. and as for the satanist remarks..it's a belief, that's real, deal with it, oh and by the way, they sing about anti christian beliefs, which inevitably involves satan you can;t have one w/out the other.

I fail to be impressed with this band.......2007-04-20
Diecide.. To sum them up, they play dry death metal 1000 bpm palm mutes and mix in satanic lyrics with snarly vocals.. BIG DEAL!!!! The music is so simplistic and boring that you can find as much excitement beating your head against the wall without reason... Deicide isnt in the same league as Cannibal Corpse.. CC at least knows how to lay down timely rythemic progressions with solos along with the vocals.
I guess if your Satanist you can overlook the poor talent Diecide presents and blindly love this band for theyre stupid lyrics.. I on the other hand like to listen to good music.. I dont hear any here.
A Great Classic Death Metal Album not for Everyone.......2006-07-15
Deicide is world class DEATH METAL . It does not matter if you like them or hate them. The ever shifting drums of Steve and extreme guitar riffing by the Hoffman brothers is considered by credible music critics as an essential example of great death metal music. The band actually helped define the early 90's death metal movement with complicated, ultra heavy music and low growling vocals of Glen Benton. Although many say that Trifixion is the favorite cut in this album, the band's compositions and performance in this album is solid and serious throughout. All songs are considered by many as classic. Even though Glen Benton hated and never accepted the Death metal music categorization, they are one of the best bands that came to existence. Although such early-'80s metal bands like Venom and the Possessed helped invent this radically heavy sound, Deicide continue to expand upon death metal's groundwork. Admittedly, Deicide's music and heavily Satanic lyrics aren't for everyone. But when everything is said and done, when gimmicks are long dead .Deicide and this album Legion will remain a death metal classic.
Deicide's finest effort!!!.......2006-05-31
Back in the day, when i was 15 years, i bought this and for me was "pure evil". This album got everything, thrashing guitar riffs, incredible solos and excellent drums courtesy of Asheim. Glenn Benton sounds really pissed off, and i like the way he sings. This album was a huge step and major improvement by this guys in that time. Recommended!!
GrrrrGrrrrGrrrrYeeeaaahhh!!!.......2006-03-06
This is my fav. Deicide album out of all of them. I got the 1st self-titled one 1st & liked it, but then I got this one I liked it even better. Its more technical than the 1st one (which 4 me is good, cause I LOVE technical death metal) & the song structures are better the 2nd time around. Im not much into the constant bible-bashing, but oh well... its still a good peice of death metal history. I'd say if U had to have one Deicide album in your collection, get either this one or their 1st one. Or else get them both!!! Yeeeaaahhh! Get on the ball!
Eh... I've heard worse, and much better.......2005-12-14
Boring thrash riffs, repetitive and unimaginative drumming, stoopid lyrics and one of the most average vocalists in death metal. Legion is a flat unchanging drone from beginning to end, not unlike listening to a vacuum cleaner that occasionally changes from high to low. The guitar sound is an unimpressive weak buzzing, like radio static, heavy it's not. Back in the day this album was impressive, but listening to it (again) today I find there's really not a whole lot to Legion other than the speed. It doesn't hold up. I never really "got" Deicide anyway. Their music never propelled or moved me, unlike Morbid Angel or Death or many other American extreme metal bands of the early 90's. Ultimately Legion and Deicide aren't that interesting to me musically and the poorly concieved fascination with Satan comes across as cheesy. I'm afraid Legion is an unimaginative album from an average band.

Flawless.......2007-07-31
This and Deicide's Legion are absoulutely required death metal records. You cant call yourself a death metal fan and not have these in your collection. I wish all modern death metal was this good (including Deicide). I can name a plethora of modern "death metal" bands (usually sound like some cheesy Morbid Angel rip off band with hardcore vocals) that try and sound this brutal and evil with modern vocal enhancers and drum machines, but try as they like, it wont be as good as this.
Not for the faint of heart or the idiot Christians.
Blasphemous Brutality.......2007-01-11
First off, for those people who bash on Deicide for singing about the same thing, that being the death of God and Jesus and so on, they need to take a step back and see what they are listening to. All of the mainstream crap that is played on the radio IS THE SAME THING!! EVERYTHING IS THE SAME!! The songs sound the same, they all have the same lyrical content as the last. One cannot tell, at least I can't, when one band starts a new song or when another ends, it's pretty sad. Most of the mainstream bands will eventually die out in a few months and another one will come and take it's place. Now for Deicide, they have been around since 1987 when they called themselves Amon, 20 years ago, and they are still going strong. Never having to change their sound or their lyrical content. Today's "music" sprouting bands left and right, and it just sucks, I'm glad to be one of the MANY people who love underground metal and death metal in general. So if you want to bash death metal, you need to shut your faces and take in the amazing music that is...DEATH METAL! Listen to some real talented people who do what they do best. Anyways, onto the review...Deicide never seems to let up with their aggression and brutal aural assaults on the ears. So if you want to support some real music and listen to some real talent, buy this album along with all the other Deicide albums. Also recommended listens are Beneath the Massacre, Inveracity, Jasad, Disgorge, Guttural Secrete etc...SUPPORT BRUTAL DEATH METAL...it is a genre that is long from being a dying breed.
What a great album........2006-07-16
Don't listen to the 'Melissa "I love fall out boy, yet a now serious reviewer"' reviewer, obviously she is majorly incorrect and her self-claimed 'intelligence' can be very deceiving. She is an apology to her parents because they've probably realized what a mistake it was to have an idiot child.
Deicide. God help us. .......2006-07-04
First off, these idiots are not real Satanists, they are psychopaths. If they were unemployed, they would probably be barbacuing kidnapped infants and saying "whoa, dude, that's wicked!" Sorry to be so harsh, fans, but frankly these guys give death metal a bad name. Just answer me this: what kind of legacy will Deicide leave for extreme metal? These guys have absolutely nothing original to contribute, never have, and never will. HEY GLEN, DO US ALL A FAVOR: PRAY TO YOUR BLESSED LORD SATAN AND ASK HIM TO TAKE YOUR LIFE AND IN EXCHANGE GIVE CHUCK SCHULDINER'S LIFE BACK TO US!!!!!! On the other hand, if you're interested in Death Metal with TALENT, please check out anything by Death, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Nile, just to name a handful.
ho ho ho...you really can do this? ho ho ho.........2006-06-25
although I think the same thing when I hear rap music, total garbage I think, I see some reviewers saying "I can make this kind of music within 10 seconds..woooooeeeek...grrrrr...". Ho ho, cool, you may be right. Now let's see if you can do it on the stage, with the same dignity, for 20 years.
If being negative to the christianity is a sin, the real sins those committed by the people who claim that they are christians requires the size of hell that is bigger than the universe. So as your son of nazareth said, look behind yourself before you throw the rocks. (Maybe you still want to throw, because the priests those who are feeding on you are forgiving you forever and ever by the money that you pay for them.)
A classic is a classic. you never know which one is a classic, as people didn't know which one is Sonata when they were released or first performed. All we know is that many many many of the people who have some ears that can discriminate the gold against garbages, are recommending this album, because this one has all the things neccessary in making a piece of "good" work. You be the one of the guys agree on this or not, it doesn't matter. Whatever you think, this one has already reached to the position, "the classic".

The beast unleashed.......2007-07-10
Brilliant death/black metal like only Deicide can make. These demos are perhaps the best demos in history of this style. The songs are fast, unmercyfully dark and blasphemous. If you don't like Deicide, don't listen to this band, they're not for you, never were. All you christians and other cowards lurking from behind the corner, writing negative, idiotic, senseless reviews only fuels this band while you drown in your hypocrisy.
The true roots of Deicide........2005-06-09
This is a killer disc. It contains all music from their debut album "Deicide" and though these versions are all earlier demos recorded before that debut album, the first six songs on this album are all VERY good quality demos, and in my opinion, are a little better than on the finished album. The next four tracks are really early demos that were recorded in the garage just weeks after the formation of the band. The quality is as bad as one could expect, but like the band says in the liner notes, it is a cool thing to listen to and see where the band came from.
The liner notes in the cover are pretty cool as well. They give the listener a brief timeline of the band from the initial formation of the band Amon, to the recording of the first album from the band we now know as Deicide.
In the end what you have is something that you can't find from most bands. This is a must for any Deicide fan. As for the casual listner, the first six songs are as good, if not better than the songs on the first Deicide album. It's definately worth the ten bucks or whatever you'll pay for it.
Sound quality sub-par, but they are Demos........2004-09-12
Deicide is one of the best, if not the best American death metal band. When we listen to a Deicide album we expect to hear polished God-hating lyrics delivered with a veil of blast beats and over-distorted guitar. Amon: Feasting the Beast gives us a little listen to the side of Deicide that we are not that familiar with. For the first time we can hear Deicide as a raw unpolished noise making juggernaut. This is what Deicide sounded like before they got the expensive studio overhaul and whatever else. Scarificial Suicide is heard as it was never heard before but still stands out as the best song on this CD.
This album is recommended to all hardcore Deicide fans and also to all the fans of Death Metal who prefer their music as they prefer their meat: raw and bloody.
Demo's !.......2004-08-22
Great album these demos are much much better than the re-recorded versions on their disapointing LP.The best track is definetly 'Sacrificial Suicide' and is also one the major gun songs in metal history. Not a must buy but if you find it get it because i do believe its going out of print.
feasting the beast..........2004-01-30
Makes you want go out and hit something. You can see how far the band came from this album to it newer ones. Best track would have to be "Dead by Dawn". The album is very fast and hard pounding. Glen's voice was alot different, he still didnt have that harsh blood in your throat sound that he has now..but a must have for any metal head...

I Assume This Is The DVD Version (If It Isnt Dojn't Bother Wasting Your Money On The DVD)Ill Start With The Album, This Short Little Spawn Of Mayham Is Good Deicide And Nothing Else(Even The Song Mad At god Which I Found A lyrical failure) Is good. The DVD however is quite a letdown, the first part is alrihgt explains how the album is made(well how the vocal's are anyways) and it show's in on the band's live's which is alright i guess, some parts were inteesting but i got bored when steve started showing off his gun collection, and i feel that they could have also gotten the video for the title track on here (and a making of feature for that) if they tried.
Best Death Metal Album.......2006-04-03
This is my favorite Death Metal Album of all time. I'm a huge fan of every deicide album, even the ones that most agree weren't all that good. They just stepped it up to a new level on this effort. The sound they get out of their guitars is huge and unearthly. The over all atmosphere Deicide creates is on an epic orchestra like level. I've never heard metal like this before. Other great albums by this band are their self titled album, Serpents of the Light, and Legion. If you're new to Deicide you might want to try those ones first. This album takes a little time to digest.
Don't listen to the Christian reviewer below me, if there is a God I'm sure he's got better things to do that worry about what kind of music were into; you think he'd be more offended if we were listening to talentless, mediocre, kiss A$$ Christen Rock. `Praise Jesus, He's so great, Praise him, He needs your acceptance and approval, it's like crack to him.' Grow up people.

I used to be a christian along time ago but now I hate the church, etc. That church stuff is brain washing you to make you say the same thing as I hear from the rest of them people. You need to wake up!!! Now this cd is one of there best works!!! I have been rocking out with them for along time! So if you want to hear something that is going kick your ear drums in then pick up this!!!!

3 1/2 Some good Stuff, but some bad filler.......2007-04-02
The one thing you might notice about "Serpents of the Light" is that Glen's vocal seems to be acutally audible, which makes for a change of pace. Its still pretty fast and furious, as always, but still seems to have some "filler" that just plain sucks. The tracks that really stand out are Bastard of Christ, Slave to the Cross, Creatures of Habit, and the title track. The rest, well just seems like noise, with sloppy playing. Its not a bad album, its just not anything that really stands out and grabs you. At least its better then "In Torment in Hell"!
My Favorite Deicide CD.......2006-10-22
Okay Now Alot Of Deicde Fans Will Smite Me Saying Legion & deicde > all, and yeah there probably right, but i enjoy this cd the most, mostly because it isnt Saying how Satan Is God Everytime That They turn Around, and lyrically they are most creative here, it's also there only older relase that can link up to there new ones, so if you liked stench id get this
Oh. You again........2006-06-08
In all seriousness, you really need to cut it out. I've read your reviews, and they're nothing but low ratings due to the fact that your offended by satanic lyrics. You knew that your preaching is meaningless, yet you post it anyway. Point given, if you don't like the lyrics, or in a broader sense, the music itself, than go listen to something else. But quit telling people to stop listening to their faveriote music. Its not going to work.
Oh and for the record, I am a religious person.

if you have listened to deicide before, you know what to expect from one of thier cds...and you know what kind of quality the music is...this cd is different than others in that respect
the quality of this cd is much different than the rest of decide's masterpeices, which seems to be its only flaw...when listened to side by side a song from another album, the quality sounds much less powerful
but if youre just listening to this cd, it grows on you and you barely notice
im sure many of you are familiar with the horrible quality that is a black metal album...let me assure you that the quality of this cd is much much much better than that, just less powerful compared to deicde's other cd's
on to the cd itself
every song is a good one, and all tracks stand out as their own being
thats why i love deicide
if you want a good album to start with from deicide, i suggest either scars of the crucifix, or their greatest hits...they will give you a good taste of what deicide is...
if you have already listened to them, then i sugest this album
quite a masterpeice it is
anways, thanks for listening to me rant
HAIL SATAN!!

A dark, angry underrated album .......2005-08-06
After "Once Upon the Cross" Deicide seemed to have gone back to basics. Gone is the relentless speed of past albums, replaced with a more refined approach to songwriting. The speed is still plenty there though, at least as much as the debut.
Serpents of the Light also features something brand new to Deicide at the time, MELODY! The vocals are debatedly better than the previous release, and the lyrics much more serious (though still on the subject of organized religion and Christianity. The music on this album sometimes approaches a, sort of, black metal style of some of the riffing, and some of the melody nearly points the way to what was beginning to brew in Sweden at the time. Case in Point: "Blame it on God". Blame it on God is my favorite song from here, with a awesome melodic riff and refrain that almost reminds me of Star Wars (the dark empire march type music that is). The diminshed riffs and solos on the song definitely take Deicide up to a level that is further explored on their newest release, Scars of the Crucifix. This is slowly becoming my second favorite Deicide album (or maybe third, Legion is still killer) and I didn't expect anything past the first two to be worth anything. Goes to show one must always give things a try for themselves and not listen to others criticisms, oh well. The secret weapon of the album is obviously the blossoming talents of the Hoffman brothers. Brian in paticular had started to get better and better at soloing, and on this album it starts to show. Lessons (including classical) were received, and it only made Deicide's music more DELICIOUSLY EVIL!
An underrated, killer release that points to a career that couldve been, instead of the unfortunate predicaments that the band found themselves in later (along with undeserved public scorn not at all reflected in album sales (a hint of jealousy perhaps?) )

A TERRIFIC DEATH METAL ALBUM!!! .......2006-08-22
If You like Your music VERY DARK and EXTRA HEAVY then...DEICIDE has got an album for YOU! DEICIDE's "One Upon The Cross" is an extra helping of Heavy with not only very outstanding musicianship but an excellent production too!-(thanks to Scott Burns). The overall album from front to back is REALLY good with some very standout songs. The vocals are simply angry beyond all reason and add so much to the atmosphere this album projects. The guitar playing is also really impressive-(especially the rhythms!).The Bass player does ALOT of really great "fills" and does a fantastic job keeping up with the drummer. The Drums on this album are absolutely furious with alot of nice timing changes. If I had to describe the sound DEICIDE has on this album I would say it sounds like a cross between: SLAYER/old SEPULTURA and CANNIBAL CORPSE-(which is GREAT!)Some of the songs that REALLY standout on this album are: track #1)"Once Upon The Cross", track #2)"Christ Denied", track #3)"When Satan Rules His World", and track #9)"Confessional Rape"-(EXCELLENT Rhythms!!)If your a Fan of Thrash,Death,or Black Metal then I HIGHLY recommend DEICIDE's "Once Upon The Cross" if Your a NEW Fan of this band and are not sure which of thier albums to purchase,THIS is a really great place to start.I also Highly recommend You checking out some of DEICIDE's other terrific releases which include: "DEICIDE"(self-titled),"LEGION",and "SERPENTS OF THE LIGHT". I hope My review was helpful to You, please check out My other reviews on more great Thrash,Death, and Black Metal bands!!LONG LIVE DEICIDE!!and LONG LIVE METAL!!
Jesus, This Is Good.......2006-07-04
This is one of my favorite albums. It's incredibly heavy and fast. It's also surprisingly catchy in a metal sort of way. After I listen to this album, I'm singing "Kill the christian, kill the christian..." all day. I can't say if this is Deicide's best since I haven't listened to all of their albums yet, but I can say that it is one of the finest albums that I have listened to. Buy it. Listen to it. Love it. Share it with all of your friends and family members. Take it to church and share it with the congregation and clergy. They'll love it too. I guarantee it.
Not death metal's finest........2006-06-16
I will start by saying I'm hugely into death metal. Any form of music that points out the hypocrisy of politics and religion is ok in my book. However, with that being said Deicide never really did it for me. Bands like, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Suffication, Death, Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, and Gorguts are much more my speed. I don't know I just have a hard time getting into this band. Musically they rock ok, but all they sing about is hating Christianity, and it just gets too repetitive.
I think it has to do with that in some interviews I've either read or seen with various members of other death metal bands, I could see myself having a beer and chating with them. The members of Deicide however, seem ot take themselves a bit too seriously, if you know what I mean. Plus Glen Benton rips on underground metal legends such as Slayer and Morbid Angel. He is calling them poser/sellout bands. I'm sorry to say but neither of those bands have sold out anymore than Deicide. I don't know if jealousy has anything to do with it. But just because the members of Slayer and Morbid Angel don't burn upside down crosses in their bodies doesn't mean they've sold out. It' means they still have some brain cells.
Plus I get the point the band hates Christianity. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of the faith either. But bands such as Slayer and Morbid Angel do a much better job pointing out the faults of the religion and they do it much more creatively. "Once Upon the Cross shreds pretty hard but it just continues in exactly the same format of their to previous releases "Deicide, and "Legion" which are much better. Plus I'm sorry to say but Kerry King and Trey Azagthoth are much more acomplished musicains then any of the members of Deicide. I only own 3 albums from Deicide and I haven't bought another one in 7 years. I just keep finding other death metal albums by other artists in that keep my intrest much more. There is just better death metal out there.
kill the christian...kill the christian...kill the christian..........2006-06-12
another hot stuff, straight from hell.
I don't "grade" their albums from favorites to worst because I worship them, but I can say that this album is the masterpiece released when they were enjoying the maximum supports from their fans and the record company.
this album shows their improved use of sound effects, and effective techniques of making "chorus lines"(
<- I don't know how to put this in other words).
after their release of their demo tapes remastered CD, I was expecting another hot shot, hammer smashing screams like Legion, and naturally, I was shocked to witness that they don't need to be the speed-maniacs to impress the listeners, except the christians they want to kill.
well, if you go to church and waste your time listening to corrupted preachers who drive to the church in BMW, bought with the money pirated from daily workers, donated from drug dealers, to deliver the weekly preach in disguise, in tears, to kill the devils, demons..., then you have nothing to say when the devils and demons sing in chorus, "kill the christian !". I'm hack not a satanist just like I'm not a christian, because I KNOW that two things that we are "told" to discriminate are actually the two aspects of one existence. If your mental age is more than 10, you won't believe that you go to some place called heaven when you die, just by being a moron who does as he is told and give his hardly and bloodly earned money to the priests whose job is to study how to "trick" and "betray" their belivers.
comparing to their other albums, this one is the heaviest, full of phrases that we can "sing" along(ha ha.. I didn't expected this kind of things from death metal..). I recorded all their albums in a mini-disc and always carry their works wherever I go. And I don't feel any need to listen other bands music any more. From black sabbath, judas priest, iron maiden...now I realize I've been settled on Deicide for 12 years, although I never know to whom I will jump.
Anyway, you are reading one of the reviews on one of the albums from one of the most important group in this area.
If you think you like death metal and you don't have this, no question, just buy this.
If you don't like this kind of music but just clicked by curiosity, search again for some nicer musics that cannot exist even a day without tricks from "managers" and "mass-media".
If you really hate them and willing to burn their records in support of christians, buy this as many as you can, and burn them. They will also be glad.
Introduction To Deicide and the CD's Review.......2006-06-08
First a small intro about the band. Deicide is a band that is highly satanic. The band is probably one of the most satanic band you'll see as every song they make is about satanism. They claim satan is their master and so on. To many people the band members are just sick people (as shown by a person ripping off a lizard's tail in a special edition CD). The band started off with two albums Deicide then Legion and both were good (for Deicide's standings). Then came thieir next 4 albums. The first two of these (including Once Upon the Cross and Serpent blah blah blah) was a very noticeable step down from their first two. their last two was just horrible and a poor excuse for death metal. They broke off of their label, got a new label, and then made an album called .. God what was it called umm... Scars Of The Crucifixation ( I spelled Crucifixation wrong I am sure). The album was one of their best yet and there was a noteable difference with the songs on that album which is highly different for Deicide. Right now they are working on their Stench Of Redemption album which will come out on the last day of August.
This band is considered to be average in the death metal world. I personally have to agree. Deicide's Once Upon The Cross is a very average album. It's really simple. All of the songs almost sound the same all the way. There's only a slight change on every song. Although despite this this is a good album to listen to as a whole. I usually listen to it once a month and throughly enjoy it. It is still worth the time to get it. It is not bad at all by any means.
Track Listing:
1. Unce Upon The Cross: Great way to open up a CD. Get used to the sound cause that's what the entire album sounds like. 9/10
2. Christ Denied: Nothing new to speak of here but it's good. 9/10
3. When Satan Rules His World: Only thing that tells this song apart is the When Satan Rules His World part of the song 8/10
4. Kill The Christian: Heavy ending here. 8/10
5. Trick Or Betrayed: Great song with some of the best lyrics the band has written. 10/10
6. Children Of The Underworld: Pale song 5/10
7. Behind The Light Thou Shall Rise: Longest instrumental on the CD but nothing special until it comes to the instrumental. 7/10
8. To Be Dead: Sounds a lot like the last song but the last song is better. 8/10
9 Confessional Rape: The drumming and guitars are awesome on here. Great way to close the CD and my favorite off this album. 10/10
There is better CDs believe it or not from this band. This is a good place to start though since a lot of times people who listen to the older stuff and likes it doesn't like the new stuff as much.

The Band didnt even like this one.......2007-04-02
If there is one thing that is known, is that Deicide usually comes through with some insane musical effort, and that is one what makes them an elite group on the death metal genre. Dont get me wrong, this isnt a complete disaster, but its pretty close, with repitive songs, with almost none of the guitar work or drumming that the band is known for. Deicide was on its last nerve with Roadrunner Records, so they rushed the final two albums in the roadrunner catalog. They said that they were very disapointed with the last two roadrunner releases, and if you listen to this you can see why. The one track that really stands out is "Worry in the House of Thieves" which is the best song on this album. The title track is also very good, and the rest is just vanilla death metal, that falls short of average. If you want, go ahead and give it a try if you want to add this to your catalog, but I doubt it will be spinning in your CD player very long.
their worst one... but still good!.......2007-03-29
Personally I don't like this one out of all the Deicide CDs I own (and I own em all). But, this one has one of my fave. Deicide songs on it- Vengeance will be Mine. This song is just... awesome... a nice catchiness that keeps me comming back to it, and I always recommend it to people who are getting into the band. The rest of the album is all right... sounds all the same after a while... but then again all music does in a way. This album is just... good... not great, not terrible... but just good. If you liked Insinerathym (sorry if I mispelled) then you'll enjoy this... same deep growls and good solos. Again... a note about those complain about lyrical content... come on... it's Deicide... means kill God... end of story. You should know what to expect.
It's a bumby ride but im glad i got it.......2006-09-09
Okay most deicide fans use legion & there first release to judge there cd's but if you dont do that (cause they will never be able to top them) you can enjoy some of there other music (amazing).
This album however is alright
Lacks Agression Though and isnt as heavy
Tracks 1-3 Sound Almost The Same
6 Is Too Long
7 Will Be A Deicide Favorite Of mine seeing As FOR ONCE IT ISNT ABOUT SATAN
meh @ track 8 though
for die hards only
One of Deicide's Best.......2005-04-12
In my opinion this is one of Deicide's best Albums. "In Torment In Hell" is an angry Album, but has enough melody in it to make it stand out from other Death Metal bands that are just full of blast beats and nothing else. Sure, blast beats are cool, but they do get old. Here is Deicide, their last Album for the label Roadrunner, at i think, their tightest musically.
People who are the least bit into Death Metal would most probably know Glen Benton as the "God-Hating" frontman of Deicide, and also vocalist for Vital Remains. As for how much he's really into "Satanism" and all that, i'm not sure. I've read in interviews that it's all a show, which it could very well be, but the thing is..Deicide still make good music. Still. After all these years. ..Alot of people would disagree, because of Glen Benton's antics off stage, but i want people who do disagree to fully listen to the songs "In Torment In Hell" or "Let it Be Done", and explain whats so bad about Deicide's music.
I personally think Glen Benton's vocals are some of the best in the Death Metal genre. On songs such as "In Torment In Hell", "Vengeance Will be Mine" and "Child of God", just for example, his growls and screams really shine through and make the song stand out even more. The guitar work by the Hoffman brothers on this Album is also outstanding. Very tight, and very headbangable. In fact every single song on this Album you can headbang too. Most, if not all, of these songs would go over well with the crowd in a Live setting, i think.
For some Deicide are the true founders of Death Metal and one of the greatest bands in the genre..And to others they've sold out, play generic Death Metal and should grow up (Referring to the lyrics..) ..But i personally side with those who say that they are the true founders of the genre. They, along with alot of other bands, made Death Metal popular. And just because Deicide are kinda one of the 'mainstream' Death Metal bands out there, doesn't mean that they should be overlooked because of that.
If you're into Death Metal, check this Album, and this band out, if you haven't already. I doubt you will be disappointed in songs such as "In Torment In Hell", "Let it Be Done", "Vengeance is Mine", "Worry in The House of Thieves" or "Lurking Among Us".
Tormenting, Hellish, Deicidal Death Metal.......2004-04-24
This is another great Deicide album in my collection. I brought it somewhere in the fall of 2001. With this album, it was the same episode that I had with Insineratehym. I didn't have the mechanism to download MP3's. So I had to wait until the album is released. Lets also not forget that like before with Insineratehym, there was a lot of bad hype going around about this album as well. Some said that the album was a little better than Insineratehym and some just throught that it was no-good alltogether but it all turned out to be just that, worthless hype. So I get this album on the day of its release and I take it home and listen to it and like always, Deicide delivers again.
Now for my review. This is Deicide's last album on Roadrunner Records and despite what people have said about it, Deicide goes out with a bang. This album is just as good as any Deicide album. The heaviness, brutality, intensity, aggression and evil still remain. Some of the songs are slow, medium-paced and fast but it's all Deicide. There's also those killer riffs, solos and blast beats as well as those Anti-Christian and Anti-Religious lyrics as only Deicide can deliver them. All in all, it's a great Deicide album. Some of my favorite songs here are In Torment In Hell, Christ Don't Care, Vengeance Will Be Mine, Child Of God, Let It Be Done and Worry In The House Of Thieves which is my favorite. Get this album or you'll be the one tormented in Hell.
