Mollo/Hughes Getting it Right.......2004-08-30
I just recieved this disc, and have spent some time listening to it, so I thought I would submit a review. It is of course obvious to make comparisons to the first Voodoo Hill album, so let's start with that. The first S/T cd left me more than a little bored. The musicianship is first class, however the songs were pretty generic rock. Glenn's voice is always amazing, however he seemed to be merely singing over some standard rehashed rock riffs. On the new album, that is not the case. It appears that Hughes has contributed much more to the songwriting. The playing is as heavy and precise as the S/T release, however they have really come up with excellent melodic rock songs for this disc. The opening track being the finest example. Glenn overdubs some excellent harmonies on the refrains that really bring the song to life. Several tracks have a very Zeppelin influence going on, but what better influence can there be to let show. Overall I would recommend this disc, much moreso that the first release. It appears that Dario Mollo and Glenn Hughes are really starting to gell together. If they choose to collaborate on future releases we can all hope that they get better each time. All GH fans should pick up the disc and enjoy !!

Way up the hill..........2000-11-08
Recorded at Dario Mollo's home studio in Ventimiglia,Italy,'Voodoo Hill'features the phenomenal vocal talents of none other than Glenn Hughes, who does here things that he somehow omitted from his most recent output. One can only applaud Dario's choice for a vocalist, when they are done applauding his amazing guitar skills. On this little gem he further refines the heavy sounds of The Cage, adding touches of Van Halen at their best and Whitesnake, while healthy organ backgrounds are backed up by a very solid bottom end.A very impressive and eloquent album that should cement Dario Mollo's ace status.
Buy Voodoo Hill immediately!!.......2000-10-12
My god, this Voodoo Hill disc is awesome. Dario Mollo's guitar is sounding great, and Glenn Hughes's voice is better than ever. The sound is much more fluid than the Tony Martin sung "The Cage" that was Voodoo Hill's immediate predecessor. The sound runs the gamut of Yngwie and Van Halen at times, but very emotional and heavy. Glenn is at his best doing metal, and Voodoo Hill is much heavier than Glenn's R.O.C.K. album of only a few months earlier. "Disconnected" is a gem, and Mollo and Hughes remake Deep Purple's classic "Gypsy" in stellar fashion. Buy now.

rewind.......2004-09-18
Well, after reading the other glowing review, I thought I couldn't go wrong here; blistering rock, etc., etc.... well, on opening the CD and seeing the illustration and photograph of who must be Glenn Hughes, I thought "Oh No"; the dude looks straight out of Las Vegas Arena-Rock; on listening to the music, I thought "Oh No";the music is garbage, I had to turn it off. It sounds like a combination of Gary Wright (Dream Weaver anyone?)and Joe Satriani...both of which have virtues in their own rights, but the Voodoo Hill product is just flat out tacky and pompous. Glenn Hughes obviously thinks he is 'The Man' but he has a terrible tendency to sound like a white man mocking a black man making fun of hard rock.
Glenn & Dario - what a team!!.......2002-05-07
All right, people.
If you are reading this, you probably know just what Glenn Hughes is capable of. Fans of the hard rock Glenn will sweat joy listening to this album, but pure Glenn fans take notice..
The all-mighty GH is in top-notch form, here (when is he not?), and combined with strong musicianship you can't go wrong.
This is a project of sorts; the vision of a prominent Italian guitarist by the name of Dario Mollo. The music is written solely by Dario, and the lyrics and melodies were all written and performed by Glenn. There is one exception to this; the song contents of this album offer up an amazing rendition of the Purple classic, 1974's "The Gypsy." Other than that, all music is new. The album kicks off with a light, swaying intro to song, "Sensitive," before kicking in and slicing you in half via Glenn's unmistakable scream and a killer riff courtesy of Dario.
From that point, the album really doesn't let up at all, spewing forth track after track of top-notch, blistering rock. "Golden One," is a stand-out track for me, easily being one of the most beautiful songs on the face of the Earth. "Spun In Lost Wages" has the same deception as "Sensitive," as in it starts out with a cool, light groove; then just when you think its okay to turn your back... "Voodoo Hill" is an amazing heavy rock song to close the album with, harboring a haunting vibe. And if you have the dough to spend for this, the Japanese edition of VH, you are treated to a very cool instrumental track courtesy of Dario, where he shows what he is made of, as he jams over a cool groove accented by the sound of 'matches.' All in all, this is an absolutely essential album for Glenn fans; and a damn fine choice for fans of amazing hard rock in general. This is easily one of the best releases of 2000. Dig it...

Closer to two and a half stars really........2004-08-29
I've got to say I found this a little disappointing. I am Glenn Hughes fan, but after quite a few listens I still find this a bit ho hum. I liked the first VH album, and I am a major fan of Mollo's first Cage album, but I just don't see this album as being in that league. The vocals are not the problem, I just don't see the songs being that strong. It is certainly not a bad album, but it just does not grab me. I would advise listening to the album before you part with the hard earned, particularly if is a question of this or something else you have been hanging out for.
GREAT!!! FANTASTIC!!!.......2004-07-12
Glenn Hughes is the best vcalist there ever was and this is GREAT!!!He is as always at his best here on this album.Like the last VooDoo Hill CD the guitars are awesome and the band is tight.Glenn Hughes is the force of the group and the music is awesome and sounds like it came straight from 1977.Ive been waiting on this cd forever and it was 100% worth the wait for all Glenns fans

The Heavier Glenn Hughes For Metal Fans..........2001-06-18
Dario Mollo's VooDoo Hill CD is a good one, mainly because it features the incomparable Glenn Hughes on vocals. I personally like Glenn's solo stuff (and the work he did on Black Sabbath's "Seventh Star" when I'm in a darker mood) better, but I have friends who always want the heaviest Glenn they can get - and they love this CD. Dario on guitars, and the rest of the band are more than competant musicians, and the material is splendid. It may take a few listens for the songs to grow on you, but give it a chance and they will.
Guitar King.......2001-04-12
Have you ever heard of this guy Molo? Nor had I, and wouldn't have bought the CD just because Mr Hughes gives his vocal cords a test (expertly done, though). But Molo's guitar play is something you should have heard - as fast as it needs to be, but at the same time as intense as can be. Well, Hughes should have been told to shut up more often, but at most times they perform within the boundaries of the song; so they add to the song and don't just show off. This is actually where Purple could have been had they not employed this American axeman - name escapes me! - who always plays the same stuff and - this is another story. So, this here reminds you of DP, Whitesnake, actually the one Black Sabbath CD Hughes was involved in. Get it, if you love well composed heavy metal with rich sounds, yet the classic style (i.e. no doom, gothic, speed or any of this stuff)

Voodoo Hill - Voodoo Hill.......2001-06-17
I haven't been too pleased with Glenn Hughes' albums the last couple of years. One weak, funk influenced album after the other was released ending with the not too strong Return Of Crystal Karma which was released earlier this year. In my eyes the only really great tune with Glenn behind the mike that's been released over the last 5 years was See That My Grave Is Kept Clean from Stuart Smith's spectacular Heaven & Earth album. But now that's changed as Dario Mollo, who seems to have something with ex-Black Sabbath singers, has asked him to do vocals on his Voodoo Hill album. Dario's already had a winner with his preceding project - The Cage with Tony Martin on vox - but the Voodoo Hill even tops that one. The album is full of heavy but melodic songs in the vein of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Rainbow with a twist of Van Halen's Balance (Keep It To Yourself) as well. Heavy songs, the kind of which Glenn's voice seems to be made for. Dario Mollo seems to have adopted the style a lot of us seems to be missing a lot. With Ritchie Blackmore doing his Renaissance thing and Black Sabbath not being overly productive at the moment his albums are most certainly filling a gap. Take a song like Spun In Lost Wages, this is really a wet dream for every heavy rock devotee. It's fast and it's furious but at the same time it's catchy as hell. Or the stunning opener Sensitive with its big, heavy chops. I don't think I need to tell people that have heard The Cage about Mr. Mollo's production skills, but for those who are not familiar with that album, he belongs to the top! Voodoo Hill is an instant classic and people that love the aforementioned bands will have a ball with it.
