Dave Is King.......2005-05-17
Katmandu brings together Dave King of Fastway and Mandy Meyer of Krokus, Asia & Gottard. This was a one album band that could have been something special. The album is decent with a few top notch tracks. The album opener "The Way You Make Me Feel" is an ass kicker to be sure. But the bands best songs are still to come. After a cover of the U2 song "God Pt. 2" which eclipses the original absolutely and completely, a groovy slice of classic rock in "Love Hurts" graces the speakers. The band showed massive potential with the albums best track "Sometime Again" which has a majestic longing for someone who's just passed away. The band drops into a bluesy groove laden track "When The Rain Comes" but after such an excellent start the album becomes bogged down with filler. Not just a little but the entire second half is nothing but filler. The filler is as good as anything released by Kingdom Come but not up to the quality as the first few tracks of the album. It's a shame that another Katmandu album was never recorded because this band was on the road to rock! Dave King is a missed voice in the rock world. Come back to the genre Dave...
The Old Dave King was great !.......2004-11-03
I like so much Fastway and Katmandu. Actually he is singning Folk in a band called: "Flogging Molly" in Irland, but I don't like Folk. You can look for the official website here: http://www.26f.com/
Katmandu - self-titled (Epic/Sony).......2004-11-01
Sole album by,apparently a very short-lived heavy rock&roll band that featured former Fastway vocalist/frontman Dave King.Never did hear ANYTHING about Katmandu about a year after the release of this disc.I do,however remember seeing an Mtv interview on Headbanger's Ball where they were gearing up for a tour of Japan and the promoters wanted them to play ninety minute sets for each gig. After that,NOTHING ever again. On tracks like "The Way You Make Me Feel","When The Rain Comes" and "Warzone" one can certainly hear King's most recognizable vocals.Make no mistake about that.Anyone know what King is doing these days?A worthy forgotten early '90's metal title to check out when you can.
A Rare Album.......2004-07-13
This is the only album recorded by KATMANDU, a rare album. I like the unique vocal of David King, he is a great singer. If you like FASTWAY you'll love this album, a nice choice. You can look for music samples here: http://rockshot80.com.ne.kr/hard/katmandu.htm
Wrong Tracklisting.......2004-06-17
I'm not sure why, but Amazon's tracklisting for this disc is incorrect. Here are the songs that actually appear on the self-titled Katmandu album:
1. The Way You Make Me Feel.
2. God, Part II.
3. Love Hurts
4. Sometime Again
5. When the Rain Comes
6. Heart & Soul
7. Ready for the Common Man
8. Only the Good Die Young
9. Let the Heartache Begin
10. Medicine Man
11. Pull Together
12. Warzone
Now that that's out of the way, we can look at whether the disc is worth buying. The answer is yes. Looking at the band photo, one might be led to dismiss this disc as yet another hair-metal band, and let's face it - the first two years of the 1990's were glutted with those bands. Katmandu is something a bit more interesting though. To be sure, there are a fair amount of pop-metal standards here, but the band adds a liberal dose of blues to the album. That bluesy swagger is a nice contrast to the bright shiny AOR production that most of that genre & era's albums had. The most logical points of comparison are Cinderella's Heartbreak Station album and perhaps Crimson Glory's Strange and Beautiful. Comparisons to Fastway are inevitable, as that band's frontman Dave King provides vocals for Katmandu. All in all, Katmandu is a quality album that should please most late 80's to early 90's rock & metal fans. It certainly stands the test of time better than the average Slaughter or Bulletboys disc.

Traveling music.......2007-04-27
Way to Katmandu moves right along in a traveling and delightful way.
Easy listening, nothing sticks out to interrupt your attention,
yet the music retains clarity and keeps moving. I have this CD
in my office and never tire of listening to it, replaying it,
having it play in the background. It's good for reading
and thinking. If you like David Parsons' Yatra after the opening
chanting, you'll probably like Way to Katmandu.

from Fastway(lead vocalist)is on here. There are some really good songs on here,no it's not fastway II,but they do rock.Dave's vocals are very distinctive. To get this album now, you're gonna probably have to get it from ebay or maybe in a budget bin somewhere. But it will be worth your trouble!I believe this band made 3 albums,I have this one and looking for the others.Put it on your stereo and crank it to 11!
