5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2006-02-24

As Ignite will return with new CD this spring along with tour with Comeback Kid, I have to appreciate how invaluable this CD has been in my mp3 player for the past 5 years. Usually when I bought the hardcore cds I stopped listening them after a half year or so. Having said that, this Ignite's "A Place Called Home" has stayed my rotation list for years and I could not be bored listening it over and over. I must stress that this is not only great hardcore album but excellent ROCK album. Personally, the latter half of the CD is just amazing. Usually, Ignite is known for the fast-melodic band, but I love their mellow songs, such as "Be My Side", "Pieter", and "Bullets Included"-these songs illustrate how profesisonal their songwriting has been. I hope their new album would follow same direction as "A Place Called Home."

5 out of 5 stars Ignite.......2005-12-07

First of all, Ignite shouldn't be even compared to Nickelback! They aren't a bar band. And its a totally different Genre.I have listened to "A place called home" for several years and it has become one of my favorites. My band has played with Ignite and they are awesome live and worth respecting. Chugga

5 out of 5 stars actually, the lyrics ARE good, if not THE best in the genre.......2005-08-01

I just have to comment on this guy claiming the lyrics are worthless; they're just not.
A phrase out of 'run': (about child abuse)
The nightmares are our memories
The broken homes and noses that bleed
Afraid to stay nowhere to turn
Domestic violence tragedies.
Run! Run! Run!
Keep on beating them down!
What could make you so mad,
To beat your own children?

A phrase out of 'bullets included': (about the gunlaws)
Put down your gun punk,
put up your dukes son.
Why can't you be a man?
Fight me one on one!
Don't need guns or knives to hide behind.
Bullets included, no thought required...

I think those two are pretty complex issues for a song and the lyrics they've come up with are very well put. I think Ignite has in Zoli, apart from an excellent singer, one of the best hardcore-songwriters.

I'm not the one to give 5 stars easily, but this is just THE best cd in this genre I heard in a long time.

Btw, check them out if they're coming near you, they're awesome live aswell.

2 out of 5 stars !!! IS HOME IN PRESCHOOL? !!!.......2005-05-17

O.K, AFTER SEEING NO BAD REVIEWS, I HAVE TO REVIEW THIS CD. I BOUGHT THIS CD BECAUSE OF THE SONGS "WHO SOLD OUT NOW" AND "NO REGRETS" I LOVED THEM. I BOUGHT THE CD, AND UPON LISTENING TO IT, DISCOVERED IT HAS THE !!! WORST !!! LYRICS EVER! WHO ARE THESE GUYS, NICKELBACK? THE SONGS "RUN" AND "BULLETS INCLUDED..", HAVE THE WORST LYRICS IVE EVER HEARD. AS SOMEONE WHO LIKES BANDS FOR MORE THAN JUST THE MUSIC, AND CARES ABOUT WHAT THE LYRICS ARE (WHICH IS KINDA THE WHOLE POINT TO A SONG), I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW EVERYONE REVIEWING THIS CD HASNT HEARD WHAT THE HELL THE GUYS IS REALLY SAYING, OR THEY JUST ARENT REALLY LISTENING. MY GUESS IS PEOPLE JUST LOVE ANY SORT OF MUSIC THAT IS FAST, AND HAS EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF TALENT. DONT GET ME WRONG, SOME SONGS ON THIS CD "ARE" GOOD, BUT THE ONES THAT SUCK, SUCK REALLY, REALLY, BAD. THATS ALL.

5 out of 5 stars One of hardcore's greatest efforts.......2004-10-24

Ignite is one of the greatest bands in hardcore, and this is one awesome disc from them. Beware, if Hatebreed is the only type of hardcore you have ever bothered to listen to, this will shock you. There is not a roid-rage gorilla vocalist (no offense to Jaime) but rather a thoughful S-I-N-G-E-R that can really deliver the goods. Very well-rounded band. Great disc. Pick it up.

5 out of 5 stars "Ignite" a spark and get ready, the best punk rock release of 2006.......2007-04-02

I can not mention all the great things about Ignite. They are indeed one of the tightest bands on the planet, with a great positive message that the music scene really needs to hear these days. Zoli's voice is to sum it all up, beautiful. Yes Im a guy, your probably thinking, beautiful? yes beautiful indeed. Ignite has never lost their edge. In fact, with all due respect to their previous labels, Abucus has picked up a great band in Ignite. If your taste involves the Orange County hardcore sound of the mid to late 80's such as No For An Answer or Uniform Choice, then dont waste one second. Do yourself a favor and pick it up

5 out of 5 stars Great stuff!.......2006-09-03

Excellent record, better than just about anything else being put out these days. Good for fans of all kinds of ROCK music. The singer reminds me of '70s metal (in a good way) and the mix punk and metal guitar sounds is a great combination. Fans of Strung Out and Rise Against should like this. My favorites on this are Slowdown, Three Years, Know Your History, Poverty For All. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Turning The Dark Days Bright.......2006-06-11

Ignite have really come back and surprised the world with their latest offering "Our Darkest Days". Seeing as how the band's last outing came back in 2001, it's hard to believe that after a five year absence they could come back and even make a dent in the music scene again. But their newest effort sees them strongly laying down the gauntlet and getting punk rock back to what it was all about to begin with. With screamo and metalcore so dominant over most of the underground music scene right now, "Our Darkest Days" is a breathe of fresh air in such a stale environment. From the inspiring lyrics, to the melodic song structures to the excellent musicianship, "Our Darkest Days" has all the ingredients of a Grade A punk rock or melodic hardcore record, and it's about time an album of this nature was unleashed on the public.

There's many things that set Ignite apart from a lot of the punk/hardcore bands that have come along in the last few years. Not only have they been around longer than the majority of them, but they are also extremely good at what they do. While their last effort, 2001's "A Place Called Home" left much more to be desired, "Our Darkest Days" gives the listener everything they could possibly want from the band. Following their departure from TVT records (which everyone should admit, was never a good home for Ignite's sound) and their signing with Abacus recordings Ignite put together one of 2006's best releases.

Bringing the culmination of their old school hardcore meets melodic punk sound to its full pinnacle, Ignite has officially brought forth their masterpiece. While past releases have all been good and offered entertaining listens, "Our Darkest Days" is front to back the strongest and most impressive record the band has put out yet. However there's many distinctions that make them standout from most of the punk rock pack. First of all they have a singer who can actually sing. And sing very well at that. Zoli Teglas, while taking a very melodic approach to his vocals, is such a strong front man for the band that it makes listening to the record an utter pleasure every time because he really knows what he is doing. His lyrics are also incredibly self aware and refreshing in today's music world. His backing band isn't too shabby either. The guitar riffs are punchy one minute, before instantly transforming into catchy, melodic choruses. The rhythm section keeps up the intensity and speed at all times, and then instantly dies down into softer parts. Everything about the band is accomplished.

As far as the songs on the album are concerned, there is not a bad one on the lot. Of the 14 tracks there's not one moment on the album which isn't catchy or uninspired. The small intro ("Intro (Our Darkest Days)") sets the pace for the record, before instantly diving into the blistering "Bleeding". "Know Your History" and "Poverty For All" are both energetic, speedy numbers that combine thoughtful lyrics with melodic hooks. "My Judgement Day", "Save Yourself" and "Fear is Our Tradition" are probably the album's three strongest tracks, but it really is a difficult task setting any one song out against the others. The most surprising pieces come in the form of the cover of U2's "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" (ever wonder what it would have sounded like if U2 played speedy punk rock? Here's the chance to find out) and the closing acoustic number "Live For Better Days", which both give the album depth and diversity among it's punk friendly selection. Rounding out just shy of 36 minutes, it has the perfect length to keep the listener interested the entire way and yet not become overbearing or boring along the way.

"Our Darkest Days" isn't just the best punk release 2006 has seen thus, it's one of the best records any of genre that has come out. Fans of punk and melodic hardcore shouldn't be without this disc. It has everything that fans of the aforementioned styles love about their music. Combining Rich vocals, excellent musicianship, insightful lyrics, and over the top energy, "Our Darkest Days" has truly set the bar for all other punk bands putting out records this year. Here's to hoping we get a new record from these guys sometime before 2011!

5 out of 5 stars You havn't heard of life in your way?.......2006-02-27

Anyone who says that life in your way is not really hardcore should make a point to go see them live. When you see them live you are wrapped up in an unbelievable sound that captures you and pulls you in. They are the bast band to hail from CT ever; thats right even better than Hatebreed, The Risk Taken, and With honor. They are positive hardcore with a message that sends chills up your spine as the lyrics are belted out flawlessly by Josh. I have been to a number of shows and every one of them pulls the crowd in like a magnet. They have helped bring a once flourishing hardcore scene back to life. Bands like Divided by Hate, Sum of all fears, Groundzero, Fear Tomorrow, Voice of reason, Torn between, and Biartz would be proud. Praise Life in your way for bringing the CTHC scene back to respectability. CTHC is back and will be blowing a roof off of your local American Legion soon. Ciao

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best albums ever.......2005-09-08

This album is amazing. The singing parts are awesome, the hit home and the lyrics are amazing. The scream is just full of passion and heart. Best songs are Hope is War, Evident, and Threads of Sincerity. This album can't be compared to anything ever because it is very unique. Even for not hardcore fans, because they're such fabulous artists it will sound great. This isn't your typical small hardcore band.

5 out of 5 stars different and great none the less.......2005-07-25

much better than their first LIYW have a great follow up here. this fresh blend of melodic hardcore is something new and should show everyone how great something different can be. both styles of vocals are perfect. the melodies are very catchy, and of course, breakdowns can never be bad. get this is you like Love Is Red, Nor Am I, or Modern Life Is War

5 out of 5 stars Simply amazing........2005-07-17

This CD is incredible. I live in simsbury, CT and i have known these guys forever. And with the new lineup of members from OCTOBER WAR. It makes this disc flawless. My personal favrotie is Track 2. Light In Mine.. and Track 6. Forgot the name. But everything is beautifully woven and i have yet to find a downside.

Keep it up guys!

5 out of 5 stars Great melodic hardcore.......2002-12-06

Ignite's 2nd CD is a continuation of where "Call on my brothers" left off. The lineup is the same and the best one that appears on any of their records with Joe and Casey on guitar and drums along with Zoli adn Brett. 6 songs so it is a short record but it rages from the first note to the last. Melodic yet raging hardcore with not a weak moment. It's too bad they steered towards more of a "rock" sound on "Place called Home" but this CD captures the awesomeness Ignite sustained for a couple years.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome edition.......1999-12-20

THis is one of the only discs that I find myself listening to constantly. Although it only has 6 songs it is a vital edition to any hardcore library. Nothing about this CD lacks in any way. I've had it for two years and still think that it's proably the best one I've ever bought.

5 out of 5 stars Oh, Wow!.......1999-09-02

This record is amazing. The positive message of this So-Cal band is so uplifting to the spirit. I am rivited by the passion in the vocals, music, and the lyrics. A truly fabulous record. I can't recommend it enough. Kudos, Ignite! --Kelly Magovern

5 out of 5 stars Love.......2005-08-29

I've been a huge Ember Swift fan for the last 4 years, I've been to over 15 live shows. Until this album came out, I didn't think any of her studio albums really captured the magic expressed in their live performances. This album changed all that. It is my favorite album of all time. Each song is perfect, and the lyrics actually mean something. I try to listen to this album at least once a week if not more. I would most highly suggest purchasing this album (and all the others), and seeing Ember live when she comes to your area.

5 out of 5 stars something different AND great.......2005-05-03

i picked up this cd at an independent bookstore and am sooo thrilled i bought it. it is different than most music we hear today, and that will turn some people off - but having recently listened to ani difranco (a great female musician) a hell of a lot, my ears and mind were very open. i got hooked on this cd in about 2 listens! it is so much fun, and you can sing a long, and i can imagine how great live Ember must be. her words are very sincere and the music is unique and just beautiful. unfortunately i lost this cd, but i am going to just buy it again. sorry this review isnt more detailed, but like i said, i lost the cd so i can't give the review it deserves right now!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!.......2004-09-07

Ember Swift was a very, very pleasant surprise. This folk-mistress fuses jazz, funk, and punk with poignant songwriting, fun guitar playing, and a sometimes political spin. If you have any interest at all, AT ALL with Ani DiFranco or any number of folk singers with an edge, you have got to give this girl a try. I especially loved the little french number, and H20 was terrific.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars simply brilliant.......2005-09-02

i first heard this album back in the eighties. a friend of mine dubbed me a copy on cassette and i listened to it like crazy. of course, the days of cassette are long gone, and i stopped listening to my copy, but i never forgot about it. for whatever reason, i never replaced it on cd either; that is until now. honestly, for the past, what--15 years or so--since i was listening to that cassette in my car, songs from this album would randomly pop in my head. it is wonderfully catchy, mystifyingly moving, and just brilliant. after listening you may wonder if there could have been a belle and sebastian without felt. just can't say enough. and it is true that felt is the kind of band wherein you either love them or hate them--but then all the best things seem to be that way, aren't they?

5 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening.......2000-09-14

I am writing this review to warn as many innocent people as I can: Felt IS ADDICTIVE! Seriously. I imagine that either you will not find this music interesting in the least, or you will become obsessed as I have. Since I got this release I have been unable to keep from listening to it for more than 3 days. I find it especially enjoyable while in the shower. Try it out and let me know what YOU think. Oh yeah, this record has a great cover! The bar code placement is a little different than other releases. The thumbnail image doesn't do the color justice. Pantone 5285 (my guess).

4 out of 5 stars Good, sometime great music.......2000-06-27

This album combines two records, Strange Idol Pattern from 1984, and Ignite the Seven Cannons from 1985. This music follows close on the heels of Felt's first and best work: The Splendour of Fear.

Overall, the 1984 record (Strange Idol) works better than the 1985 record (where they replaced their original bass player M. Lloyd with keyboardist M. Duffy). As a single CD, the music and sequencing of the tracks don't make much sense (not surprising since the two records were just put one after the other, in reverse chronological order with the 1985 record first).

Felt's music here is similar to the Speldour of Fear: lyrics that don't make much sense, vocals that are usually buried in the mix, and very strong sometime beautiful guitar work by Maurice Deebank. Some standout tracks are: Sempiternal Darkness, Spanish House, The Day the Rain Came Down, and Elegance of an Only Dream.

Sadly, they also have some rather poor tracks like: Whirlpool Vision of Shame, Caspian See (their spelling, not mine), and Black Ship in the Harbor.

Bottom line: enjoyable wierd music with some wonderful moments, worth more than one listen.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Pop Grandeur.......2000-03-15

This is simply one of the best pop albums ever. The melodies are beautiful, the minimalist counterpoint phenomenally deft. "Primitive Painters" is a long-lost classic....how this song avoided the mainstream is beyond me. "The Day the Rain Came Down" is a pop gem, and the instrumental "Serpent Shade" is hauntingly beautiful. If you're a fan of Belle & Sebastian, The Smiths, and other such bands, the shimmering beauty of Felt is something you'll definitely want to check out. It's addictive!

3 out of 5 stars Worth the listen and the purchase.......2000-02-16

If you only buy this CD for track #14, Primitive Painters, it is worth the cost. I give the overall album 3 stars, but this song 5+. I hadn't heard this song for 13 years, but after dreaming about this song recently, (yes, this song has been eternally etched in my brain!), I had to hear it again, and again and again... Felt reminds me of Chameleons UK. A lot. Very intricate and intense instrumentals...the sound really takes you back to an era of British pop and quality talent. Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars straightforward hard rock.......2005-05-04

I love this band! If you appreciate back to basics hard driving rock, free of any grunge pollution, sort of in the style of Jackyl, then I would recommend Hair of the Dog to you. Good stuff!
