There are times when descriptive adjectives such as "dumb" are not meant in the least bit as negatives. In pop music, these tend to be some of the best times you can have, of course: big, dumb, fun times. Throwing garage rock, metal, and new wave riffs together with disco beats and ironic lyrics, the Detroit-based Electric 6 made a pretty big splash with incredibly stupid and fun songs such as "Gay Bar" and "Danger! High Voltage." Nothing on here quite hits with the force of those hits, and the cover of Queen's "Radio Ga Ga" is so obvious it misses the mark entirely. But by no means have this act gotten serious or boring: like Urge Overkill before them, E6 know incredibly well how to have rock & roll fun with tongue planted firmly in cheek. If you do as well, you could do far worse than Señor Smoke. --Mike McGonigal

Album Description

Detroit's Electric Six quickly made a name for themselves in the UK and US with hit singles "Gay Bar" and "Danger! High Voltage". "Senor Smoke" was released in the UK in early 2005 to much acclaim. Metropolis, interested in broadening the scope of music they released, signed the band and is proud to now bring them back to their native soil. "Senor Smoke" blends a mixture of disco, garage, punk, and indie rock with clever (but sincere) tongue in cheek one liners. Electric Six will change the way you perceive rock in 2006.

4 out of 5 stars Not their best but good........2007-07-21

I like Senor Smoke, though it isn't my favorite of Electric Six's recordings. However, it still has that funk/rock thing going and the twisted lyrics that drew me to the band from the beginning, so I'm glad I added it to the collection.

5 out of 5 stars THE CHILD DEVIANT.......2006-12-04

This is my first Electric Six album, and I must say....I Love the hell out of it!!!! How to describe the style of music...err, ...umm....I guess it's kinda disco-metal, or something wiered like that. It's truly a hilarious album that makes you giggle your a** off, and yet, it's not cheesey or un-talented. The music is actually verry good. All in all....Wow! What a fun record!

5 out of 5 stars ....TURN THIS ONE UP TO ELEVEN.......2006-09-09

I bought Fire about a year ago and played the s!*t out it!. Amazing feaux-dace/rock/a little metal. Q: What was it? A: Awesome.

I saw them live in Chicago. They played a small venue and melted my face off. Very Fun!

Bought Senor Smoke, got it home any ran through it a couple of times. My initial review would be not as consistent as Fire, but the highs are higher. That highest point would be "Be My Dark Angel". While a little clumsy ("I was walkin' down the street, you were walking down the street, so I had to cross the street to get to your side of the street") has a great "build-up" intro and crushing guitar chord that would make Aldo Nova or Bon Jovi say "Why didn't I think of that?". It crescendos nicely into a bouncy, bititng chorus.

The album also opens with the anthemic Rock and Roll Evacuation that has a fist pumping chorus. Dance Epidemic rocks with a more.....well...dance/disco sound.

Bite Me and Vibrator are twisted, funny, uncomfortable and rockin' all at the same time somehow.

I'm a little dismayed by the more socially reflective tracks, Jimmy Carter, Future Boys, Taxi to Nowhere. They sound outdated, but have some melodic hooks as a saving grace. I do occasionally find myself skipping them to get to the meaty stuff on the CD.

This collection of songs come off a little disjointed on the same album, but that actually detracts very little from the fact that this album has some amazing, silly, wild stuff on it. It's a very fun album.

My advice would be to buy Fire and then Senor Smoke. Put them on the good stereo in the den and tell the wife and kids to "go outside, daddy's gonna' rock now." I pre-ordered Switzerland, their forthcoming album and have high hopes and new speakers. Can't wait.

Best small venue show I ever saw, too. Check and see if there coming to your town and get a ticket to see Dick Valentine and the wild ride that is E6.

3 out of 5 stars Nowhere near as good as Fire!.......2006-06-06

Senor Smoke lacks the consistency of their debut Fire. Every track on Fire was classic but this album has hits and misses. The highlights are Dance Epidemic, Rock And Roll Evacuation and Be My Dark Angel, in that order. I don't know why Radio Ga Ga was released. This is one of the weakest tracks on the album. No question Dance Epidemic should have been the first single. It has the fun, edgy, decadent disco-rock energy that characterised Fire. What's with the Pleasing Interludes? Pointless and not even funny "she don't like it too hot, she don't like it too cold, rooooom temparature....roooom temperature...". They've truly lost their way. Taxi to nowhere is utter bollocks. Rock and Roll Evacuation is a very catchy song about "evil boys eating evil hamburgers...", it tries to pack the word evil (pronounced "ee-ville" as opposed to the Aussie pronunciation "e-vl") as many times as possible. Be My Dark Angel has a wierd riff that sticks in your head and lead singer Dick Valentine does what he does best- singing in his sexy, over-the-top, decadent, immoral way. That's it folks. Check my review for Fire and why it's a much superior album.

3 out of 5 stars Danger! Low Voltage!.......2006-03-13

When Danger! High Voltage began seeping into the public consciousness in early 2003, many wondered a) who the hell was behind this catchy and gimmicky tune and b) how much of their 15 minutes was left on the clock. Defying the well-trod path of one hit wonder luminaries such as Sir Mixalot, Afroman and Grandmaster Chicken & DJ Duck, Electric Six proceeded to preposterously deliver one of the albums of 2003 when Fire dropped mid-year. Deftly managing to sing even with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek, Dick Valentine and his roster of musicians not only delivered fun music in Gay Bar, Synthesizer and Dance Commander, they also left a legacy of excellent video clips in their wake. Continuing the tradition of deranged and hilarious promos, Senor Smoke's initial single Radio Ga Ga has already appalled Queen fans with its depiction of Dick Valentine waltzing over Freddy Mercury's grave. While Senor Smoke has much to live up to after its predecessor cleverly dodged the critical bullets, there's still some classic Electric Six moments here for those in on the joke. Absurdist lyrics are again in glut supply, with Rock And Roll Evacuation (`Mr President, I don't like you - you don't know how to rock!'), Boy Or Girl? (`Now you see the unavoidable is hard to avoid') and Jimmy Carter (`You're a celebrity that drives off a bridge in a car - your beautiful body filling up with water') offering some of the more head-spinning moments. Beat poetry, Backstreet Boys lyrics and startlingly political attacks may make for strange bedfellows, but Senor Smoke for the most part works well. While they have so far eluded the piss poor status of the laughable Sir Mixalot, it will be the third Electric Six album that will prove whether Dick Valentine and his cronies are the canny musicians they would appear to be. For now, it seems that their raging Fire has been reduced to Smoke.

5 out of 5 stars A Haunting Masterpiece!.......2007-04-10

This is a requiem mass, for all people throughout the world who have died of aids.A disease created by right wing republican fascists to kill off the gays, blacks, and all the undesirables, according to those sick nazi a--holes.This cd is a beautiful and sometimes frightening performance by galas for all who have suffered needlessly.Galas brother had died of aids, and she knows many other who have died, from that horrific disease! In this performance she also takes a stab at all those right wing chrisitan bigots who misinterpret the bible to make others suffer, and to make others slaves! This is one unnerving and passionate, and powerful album. The acoustics are amazing, and her operatic voice is massive and cuts like steel through a cathedral!

1 out of 5 stars This is garbage........2007-01-19

I have tried to keep an open mind towards Diamanda Galas. I have an appreciation of all things "musical" ranging from Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" to Throbbing Gristle's "Heathen Earth" to the works of Laurie Anderson, early Swans, Lydia Lunch, even Neil Young's "Arc". But this and most of her other works are crapola posing (not too well I might add) as "music" or "art" and they are neither. Even dear, sweet Yoko(an obvious influence), sounds like Beverly Sills compared to this caterwauling, shrieking spawn of Satan. I guess I just don't get it. Give me "Cambridge 1969" any old time :)

How could anyone sit through an entire disc of this? I think Diamanda needs an exorcism or something.

Good God, man.

3 out of 5 stars Frightening!.......2006-10-04

Two words describe this cd- DISTURBING and CREEPY. I can only listen to certain sections of this cd because there are times when Diamanda's voice gets to that chilling, blood curdling point that I'm about to experience an anxiety attack. But the irony of it all is that there is something about her performance that wants you to remain and continue to listen to her. There's just that fascination factor that keeps me enthralled. I just skip to the parts I can't handle. Also I can only listen to this cd in the daytime-too frightening to listen to at night! This was a live recorded concert at Saint John of the Divine Cross(I've forgotten-maybe in error?)in NYC. Her message of how the Regan administration ignored the relevance of AIDS in it's early days(lack of funding for research)and it being considered a gay disease and the igorance it accompanied; to how it is akin to the black plague to contemporary times. She takes you through sections set up as a mass; with each section having a purpose and meaning. Diamanda shreiks at the ignorance of the plague and how it eats away at it's host.

5 out of 5 stars The eight legs of the Devil will not let my people go........2004-03-04

In 1991, on the month of October, Diamanda Galas ascended the stage of New York City's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. There, she performed and recorded what may be the most memorable sound ritual ever to be heard by audiences. Both harrowing and angelic, "The Plague Mass" is a vocal exorcism birthed by a modern banshee. In most of the tracks, her operatic screams echo off the walls of the church, piercing the brain like flying shards of stained glass. Other moments allow her to disturb listeners with her hoarse, beastly hisses. However, Galas's intention was not merely to shock the religious. Instead, she turned the Holy Bible inside out in order to address the rampant suffering caused by AIDS. At a time when this disease was ruled as a divine punishment for gays and lesbians, Galas chose to spit gospel curses to every Christian responsible for persecuting and ostracizing HIV-infected patients. With candles flickering in the darkness, she speaks in manic tongues, vomiting forth a gospel hurricane that showed compassion to AIDS victims and unforgiveness to the viciously pious.
In "Were you a Witness?," Galas first expresses her anger towards America's mass media. It's apparent that the many deaths caused by the disease (including those of famous musicians like Freddy Mercury and Liberace) were treated like exhibits in a sensationalistic tabloid circus. She faces the money-hungry reporters and warns, "To all cowards and voyeurs, there are no more tickets to the funeral." "This is the Law of the Plague" incorporates several Psalms and Chapter 15 of the Old Testament. Here, in front of the rolling roar of dragon drums, Galas cackles in the role of a corrupt judge; a sanctimonious fascist who vehemently labels AIDS patients as "unclean." With a blood red light looming over her, Galas takes an appalling look at society itself. It's one where doctors, priests, and politicians deliberately leave HIV patients for dead just to avoid scandal and hatred. In addition, the singer labels the Devil as an impotent homophobe who can only be aroused by human suffering. "I Wake Up and See the Face of the Devil" allows Galas to portray the average victim. With a mind ravaged by dementia, she lies helplessly in a sterilized hospital room as a stern cleric forces her to confess her sins. The members of the clergy are warped into dirty angels that hover over the morgue like buzzards. Later, as the heartbeat percussion rises in its volume, Galas rips out some Revelations text. Predicting the arrival of the Antichrist, she leads 3,000 of his armies to massacre all devoted Christians who slaughtered and oppressed people with HIV. In an alarming fury, Galas spews a bitter poem concerning how anyone carrying the virus is shamelessly denied access to medical care, insurance, and surgery. She validly declared Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome as a form of homicide, making her audience aware of how infected men and women are robbed of their dignity. From there, in the track "Sono L'Anticristo," she proudly labels herself the son of Satan, since the Antichrist was as much of an outcast on Earth as Jesus. Then, "Cris D'Aveugle: Blind Man's Cry," a text originally written in 1873 by Tristan Corbiere, becomes a sad and spiritual communion played by a demonic symphony. In the Frency language, Galas leads her choir into a pit of despair, an afterlife that gives no love or comfort after HIV. As the bell tolls, Galas decrys the scourge of injustice. It's one in which family members killed by AIDS aren't properly buried because even the morticians are too afraid to embalm the corpses. During this song (as well as others on this album), her whispers get increasingly suffocated through a pair of hemorrhaged lungs, fading into a grim silence. Finally, the raw emotion of the blues tune, "Let My People Go" spills over the grim notes of a grand piano. Nothing is more terrifying than a virus that destroys the body's ability to defend itself. Galas believed that once AIDS strikes another host, that individual is doomed to suffer a lifetime of sorrow and cruelty. While comparing the illness to a sentence of life in prison, she expresses that person's depression in one sentence: "The Devil has designed my death, and he's waiting to be sure that plenty of his black sheep die before he finds a cure."
I recommend this album to anyone craving the works of a powerful, controversial artist. Diamanda Galas is a sonic martyr that liberates the soul from mainstream bondage.

5 out of 5 stars All Music Guide Review.......2003-11-08

"Galas, who has been known for both her own work and as a singer of extremely demanding modern scores, has created this heart-wrenching cry about the physical suffering caused by the AIDS plague being compounded by the shameful arrogance of self-appointed moralists. Maintaining an incredible intensity and depth for over an hour's solo vocal (recorded live at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine, NYC, with suitably minimal band and electronics backup), Galas proceeds through Mahalia Jackson-influenced spiritual singing, saxophone-like wails, to dramatic dialogues in many dialects and languages ("there are no more tickets to the funeral") to engrossing Portugese "fado" singing to taking on the attributes of Satan (in "Sono L'Antichristo," I Am The Anti-Christ) in order to challenge the concept of a vengeful, instead of compassionate deity (and society), much as Nina Simone did in her controversial song "God is a Killer" in the 60's... the Mass ends with the heart-felt lyrics "I go to sleep each evening now dreaming of the grave and see the friends I used to know calling out my name. O Lord Jesus, do you think I've served my time?""

"We saw new dances like `The Freeze' and `The Achy Breaky' spreading like an epidemic in country dance halls," the members of Brave Combo write in the liner notes to their new album, Group Dance Epidemic. "Then terpsichorean plague struck--`The Macarena.' No one was spared, not even the vice president of the United States." Does Brave Combo, the polka-rock band from Texas, object to these developments? No, they love it. They are fervent evangelists for the democratizing and uplifting values of group dances, no matter how corny (plus it gives them more work). Thus the album features a dozen songs that have been dance-floor-tested for group participation, and the CD booklet comes with dance instructions for each.

"The Freeze," "The Achy Breaky," and "The Macarena" are not included, but Van McCoy's disco classic, "The Hustle," is. Most of the others belong to an earlier age when dancers bent their knees and backs to do the "Limbo Rock," flapped their elbows to the "Chicken Dance," shuffled their soles to the "Mexican Hat Dance," and waved their hands over their heads for "The Hokey Pokey." This is not the sort of album you'll want to sit around and listen to, but if you're having friends over to the house and you're afraid they're going to talk about the federal budget, you might want to put this on.

Because Brave Combo is a bohemian band from Austin, these songs have two layers. At the forefront of the mix, the tune and beat are strong and clear, but in the background, secondary beats and jazzy embellishments are complicating things. The band's approach is reflected in their notes for "The Bunny Hop:" "Cute dance for children or modern fertility rite? That's the same thing, isn't it? This version features an Aboriginal dronepipe (the didgeridoo) and quotations from Peter Cottontail and Duke Ellington's `Cottontail.'" --Geoffrey Himes

I was walking through a record store one fine day and when this album was just out and froze in my tracks. I turned to the store owner and said "excuse me, are they playing the Hokey Pokey?"

The store owner said "Yep. Thats Brave Combo!"

I immediately said "I'd be stupid not to buy this!"

What I got was an album full of classic group dance songs. From the Hokey Pokey to the Chicken Dance to the Hustle. All done in a wonderfully tounge-in-cheek fashion. Its alot of fun!

4 out of 5 stars Group Dance Epidemic.......2005-07-23

The cd has a unique twist to some old favorites that will be put tto good use

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect.......2003-10-25

My kids, 3 and 5, developed a sudden fascination with the "Chicken Dance." I looked around for a good recording, and when I saw the Brave Combo version grabbed it (they think "All Wound Up" rules)

We've been generally happy with one small nit. In their search for artistic differentiation the band has thrown in quite a few twists that, while they sound interesting, make it a bit hard to dance to. That's not cool for an album titled "Group Dance Epidemic."

Still, it's a great kid's album and highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Lunatic Fun.......2003-06-19

If you want a band that stays in one style and groove, forget it! A person could get stylistic whiplash off of this CD. The jump from Mana Vu to The Jeffrey comes to mind. The thing is though it is all played with real joy and passion, something most recordings are devoid of these days. The American Bandstand ratings system of is it cool and can you dance to it comes up with max marks for both. For those clueless, there's even instructions for how to dance to it.

5 out of 5 stars Unadulterated Fun........2001-11-11

This CD is unadulterated FUN. The band is tight. The recording is good. I love what they do with the music, styles and lyrics. My all time favorite, though, is the Bunny Hop. It's great swing. I can't listen to this selection only once. I always repeat it. TWO versions of the Hokey Pokey - who could ask for more?! The Limbo Rock / Hand Jive is great. I always sing along with Mana Vu. (Jeffrey is nuts (in a good and creative way).) That's my humble and entertained opinion.

These guys have been helping to mold music as you know it for years. They have clearly influenced countless bands. Their sound is so completely unique that they are in a league all their own. Buy this E.P., buy Lost At Sea and buy Homecoming, you will not regret it. I promise.

5 out of 5 stars They're back in full force!.......2004-07-20

After two stunning and very distinct releases, I couldn't wait for Craig's Brother to release a new cd. Well, it took them four years and some band troubles, but the guys are back with one hell of an EP! It has elements of their earlier work ("bad marriage" sounds like it could have fit well on 'homecoming'), as well as some new sounds and topics, my favorite being "epissdumbology", a song about those fake tabloids that somehow have a large target audience.
I'm surprised that not many people have heard of this great band, but I see that changing very quickly in the near future. Grab this EP and get acquainted with one of the best hidden gems of melodic punk.

5 out of 5 stars FREAKIN AWESOME.......2007-04-25

whoever can actually sit there and give these guys two stars; is not a true fan of grunge rock or rock there-off. i bought the album back when these guys first aired on mtv2, and it still remains the best album i have ever bought! my favorite is Undercurrent, its fast paced style when put on at a club is the right amount of rock and style to send the first panty flying off :)) Boris B. had is own voice and style, and until they find another record to pick them back up and do a comeback, god i hope so!!!! we are now stuck with the unfortunate whiney music of today, *cough* emo *cough* hawthorn heights sounding crap!!!!!*cough**cough* AND THE TRUE FORM OF ROCK, REAL ROCK is now lost behind, THUGS AND NERDS, who both NOW make money! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

5 out of 5 stars It was actually really good........2007-02-09

I was suprised when I heard this for the first time because I really didn't expect this to be anything more than an average modern rock album. This was probably because of the fact I heard of the band through Madden 2003 for Gamecube after hearing "Walk Away". Since I had never heard of the band before I was slightly skeptical about getting the album. I'm glad I got it though because it was definatly not a let down. From start to finish it was great. Sure there were a few weak points but aside from those; tracks like "Walk Away", "Individual", "Catalyst", "Make No Mistake", and "Burden Of A Thought" make up for that. They are my personal favorites off the album. Here's the rest of my track ratings...

1. Walk Away - 10/10
2. Equilibrium - 10/10

Sure, it doesnt really have a unique sound but that still shouldn't take away from the music. If it's good it's good. I don't really know how else to put it. If you're looking for something different than what's out today then this is probably not for you. However if you want a solid modern rock band with something to say then why not give Epidemic a shot. I mean the album is cheap enough as it is. Give it a shot, you may just like what you hear.

2 out of 5 stars pretty boring.......2006-08-17

I only give this album 2 stars for 2 songs: Walk Away and Catalyst, those are the ONLY good songs on an otherwise sleep-inducing album. These guys are missing something fundamental, cannot describe it but whatever it maybe, I hope they fix it and improve for the next record...if they ever make one that is. Deem my review unhelpful if you wish, it won't make change the fact that these guys churned out quite the below-average cd.

Oh and to Ryan Munn, you need to stop flapping your gums about things you know nothing about. Just because I don't like this cd as much as you do doesnt mean I'm not a fan of a certain genre of music. Stop being so ignorant.

5 out of 5 stars Where Are They Now?.......2005-08-27

I have been trying to find out what happened to Epidemic for years. [...] They were the complete opposite of what the music industry has been trying to force down our throats (i.e. adolescents that can't play more than two chords and mask an impotent vocal range by effeminately screaming asinine lyrics). I am still angry that a band with such substance in their message and well crafted ballads was apparently dropped by their label.

5 out of 5 stars Good stuff........2004-05-06

I haven't met any one that's heard of this band, but I love them. They're a sort of grunge band. If you like Nirvana and Seether, check this out!

There was a time when hip hop groups were recognized for the quality of their music and not the quantity of their record sales or the amount of "ice" they wear. This album takes it back to those days. The music is solid! Worth every penny!

4 out of 5 stars Washington not California.......2004-12-23

A correction to the reviewer who said these guys are from California. Nope, they were from Seattle. And I seriously doubt they are racist. The metaphor to Crows is relating the nuisance bird to people who have similar characteristics. This is a great record.

4 out of 5 stars Blip!.......2004-05-17

I had hoped to see more of these guys than we did, but I guess they were never more than the sum of the Holt Brothers' production (see their awesome work with Exodus, and you'll get an idea of the energy and guitar sound you'll get here). It's kind of a knock-off, but Blackfeather Shake and High Strung really do rock. I have to confess that I don't know much about the lyrics the other reviewer discusses, since I tend to focus in on the music and not the words (*shrug*), but I sure can rock out to these tunes. Saw them at The Troubadour in support of this album, and it was a kick-ass show. I saw a lot of moshing, so clearly the songs do affect their listeners, but the key attraction to this album is the Holt Bros' production skillz.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to both the life and the work.......2001-08-10

Not having known very much at all about Chopin, I cannot vouch for the accuracy in the Naxos entry in their CD and cassette Biography series; but I can vouch for the enjoyment (NA 421912) afforded me.

Written and produced by Jeremy Siepmann, this audio-bio not only tells the strange story of Chopin's life but also includes generous examples of his music, drawn from the bottomless pit of Naxos musical CDs. An excellent idea was to use actors for the voices of Chopin (Anton Lesser), George Sand and other females in his life (Elaine Claxton and Karen Archer), and other male acquaintances (Neville Jason). It is the kind of reading that would fascinate even if the work were fictional.

His letters are particularly fascinating, especially as they are read dramatically by the small cast; and one would rather hear about all his faults--physical and psychological--from people who knew him well. Perhaps his strange epistolary relationship with his Titus is dwelt upon a bit too much, but such are the times (then and now).

My only criticism in a negative direction is the length of the musical examples. I do not really think the entire "Revolutionary Etude" had to be played or the entire "Funeral March"; a minute or two with a fadeout would have been fine, especially on repeated hearings where one wants the facts. Nevertheless, highly recommended.

This is a great CD from these speed metal kings. To all people who are looking to purchase this CD, I must tell you that Caiman does not have this in stock. I ordered it from them one month ago and still haven't received it. When I contacted them, they said it was on backorder and then the very next day, they relisted it. So, if you really want this CD, I wouldn't order it from them because you will never get it. Just a warning so as not to waste your time...

5 out of 5 stars 'BLOOD....Rampant Seige Of Pain'.......2005-09-10

Holy F*@king S*@T! This is one brutal thrash/death metal album. This band never got the recognition they deserved, but the legacy of demolition hammer lives (R.I.P). Definitely better than their debut album 'Tortured Existence', better produced and a S*@TLOAD OF F*@KING RIFFS! Now thats what every thrash/death metalheads need.

I won't give track by track detail, but I will rate them each.

1. Skull Fracturing Nightmare (9/10)
2. Human Dissection (10/10)
3. Pyroclastic Annihilation (10/10)
4. Envenomed (10/10)
5. Carnivorous Obsession (10/10)
6. Orgy Of Destruction (1/10)(Nothing Special)
7. Epidemic Of Violence (10/10)
8. Omnivore (10/10)
9. Aborticide (My Personal Fave 15/10)

One of the best death/thrash albums to come out of the metal scene since Dark Angels 'Darkness Descends', Malevolent Creations 'Retribution (or Ten Commandments, take a pick) and finally Devastations 'Idolatry'. If Thrash Metal and Death Metal is what you enjoy, then you won't be dissapointed with this one. If there were a gore movie soundtrack, this would be it. Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars great band........2003-05-25

this is the sophomore album by these guys. not quite as good as tortured existence, but not bad. skull fracturing nightmare, carnivorous obsession, and the title track are the highlights. if you like thrash, speed metal you'll like these dudes.

5 out of 5 stars Totally Underrated Album, a rare gem.......2006-12-31

Back in 1992 I read about Epidemic's Decameron in Guitar World under the "Metal Detector" column. The album recieved 4 stars out of 5 with no explanation as to why. So naturally I picked up the cassette of Decameron. Epidemic later put out "Exit Paradise" which was a lack luster album at best, and did not touch the sheer force of Decameron.(Which could be due to guitarist Guy Higbey leaving the band) HOWEVER This album smokes, and the sound is a type of thrash/death metal with heavily distorted guitars, and bass, with Chuck Schuldiner esque vocals ala Death's "Human" time frame. With hints to Sepultura's Arise period. I loved, and still love this album as it was one of the catalysts to me wanting to play guitar. The song "Factor Red" being an oustanding song where the bass is ebowed with heavy distortion throughout most of the song. And cool lyrics to boot such as: "Retina's burn, as my eyes raise towards a dying star, half devoured sky bleeds red, melt to core no remains" it doesn't get cooler than that, I think all fans of early 90's post thrash(ex: Pantera, Exhorder, Sepultura)to pick this up!!! I love this CD, it's awesome. Just remember though, Exit Paradise=Garbage, Decameron: Totally awesome.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing special.......2003-03-19

Tight, but boring. Could be better with a different singer. Overall they're not bad but after a couple songs I got bored. Even after hearing the whole CD, I didn't find one track that [I really liked} .
