3 out of 5 stars I still like Vengence the best, but... my favorite Priest tune is here........2007-07-23

I still like Screaming the best but my favorite Priest song of all time is on this particular CD. It's called Desert Plains. From what I understand, Halford lived, or still lives, here in Arizona. That would explain Solar Angels, that's for sure.

5 out of 5 stars Unsung Gems.......2006-11-28

Point Of Entry is often overlooked by Headbangers, But to Priest Die-Hards like myself This is an excellent album! Priest decided to tone down thier energy a little to get some Radio play, That's all. Put it to ya' This way, This is an album That mixes Judas Priest with Stevie Ray Vaughn. At first the songs seem Bland at best. (Especially Heading Out To The Highway.) But if you listen to the album a couple times You'll see how great it is, There are the Stage Faves Desert Plains & Heading Out To The Highway, And then there are the unsung gems Hot Rockin, Troubleshooter, Turning Circles are just a few. If your looking for Head trauma Priest get Painkiller, And If Your REALLY A Priest fan, Get This.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Album.......2006-09-25

Judas Priest is an amazing band. I'm more of a classic rock fan than metal but Priest rocks. This album is by far different from their other work as far as the metal sound goes. Much more mello but still some great guitar work found here.
This is a great album for someone who is not the biggest metal fan from a great metal band.

2 out of 5 stars Priest Goes Pop.......2006-09-23

Here's all you need to know about the albums Judas Priest put out in the 1980's: Half of the them were good or great, and half of them were pretty bad. POINT OF ENTRY falls into the latter category.

Following the enormous success of the hard-hitting BRITISH STEEL album, Priest decided to try to capitalize on the American market by going in a more commercial direction with the follow-up. The result is a collection of mostly forgetable songs. There are three good songs here: "Heading Out To The Highway," "Hot Rockin'" & "Desert Plains." The instrumental intro to "Solar Angels" is pretty cool also.

Simply put, this is an album that was made more for pop music fans as opposed to metalheads. Just look at the album cover!!!! It doesn't exactly scream "Metal" now does it? If you need further proof, just look at the track listings on the live albums Priest have put out since the early 1980's. How many songs from POINT OF ENTRY do you see?

4 out of 5 stars Point of Entry...a classic........2006-08-28

"Point of Entry" by Judas Priest is consistently overlooked, and occasionally derided for lacking the aural charisma of some of Priest's other album's (1980's "British Steel", and 1982's "Screaming for Vengeance", come to mind). To me, "Point of Entry" is a classic, with many of the hallmarks of the Judas Priest "sound". The guitar work, and the recording thereof, is reminiscent of the band's previous trajectory ("Don't Go", "Turning Circles", "On The Run"), and yet also expands ground originally broken on "British Steel" ("Solar Angels", "Desert Plains", "Heading Out To The Highway"). For Dave Holland, Judas Priest's drummer on the album, this is a standout performance worth mentioning. His beats are solid, energetic and talented, and enhanced by Tom Allom's amazing instrument production. Vocally, Rob Halford is once again competing only with himself, as he is truly peerless within (and probably without) the genre. Unfortunately, and this is my biggest gripe, the vocal production of the album is way below par. Overall the lead is thin and too deep in the mix, and the background work, while inspired, gets lost. Of course, Tom Allom figures out his studio technique (or whatever you chalk it up to) by their next album and redeems himself, though it makes me wonder if this album might not have been received more appropriately had the vocals been properly presented. Other minor gripes that I've heard and somewhat agree with are the album's atypical lack of aggression, and the non-focused character of the writing which seems disjointed at best. These are all pretty minor qualifications to an amazing album that seems to get the worst of Priest's criticism. I'd give it 8.5/10. Incidentally, here's my ratings for some of their other albums (Stained Class: 9.5/10; Hell Bent for Leather: 10/10; British Steel: 8/10; Screaming for Vengeance: 10/10; Defenders of the Faith: 9/10; Painkiller: 10/10; Angel of Retribution: 7/10).

5 out of 5 stars Triple Threat: The Best For The Buck.......2000-10-13

The three albums this boxset contains are quite possibly the three best that Judas Priest ever put out. Priest has had heavier, and faster albums since, but none can compare to the gestalt they created on these three. British Steel put them on the map with Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight, two instant classics as soon as they were pressed into vinyl. Point Of Entry, though not as commercially successful, is full of lost gems. Solar Angels and Desert Plains were innovative for their time and great driving songs. Screaming For Vengeance made them heavy metal heroes. Every song on that album has been played on hard rock radio stations across the world. I highly recommend getting this, not only does it document the rise of British Heavey metal in the late 70's and early 80's, but these albums are all timeless and can be redicovered by younger metal fans over and over. For [the price] of a cd, this deal can't be beat.

3 out of 5 stars One guy can't spell and the other guy can't read!.......2000-08-06

I believe that both of these guys agree. These albums are good. Before you make fun of one's spelling, please make sure you are able to read. He said he "did" like this album.

5 out of 5 stars Listen to those who can actually spell..........1999-12-16

These three albums are HOT! Stepping away from the 70's style metal but not yet into that silly "Turbo" cheese, this is the blueprint for good modern metal. Just remember, if they can't spell it, don't read it!

    5 out of 5 stars the best.......1999-04-13

I thing judas priest was the best Heavy Metal band in the 80 and part of the 90. I belive, some thing, if Roberth Halforth returns to priest again it's gonna be like the old times in my opinion the last two albums theres suck's.

      4 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - Priest's forgotten early eighties album.......2005-06-23

Point Of Entry (1981.) Judas Priest's seventh album. This album has different covers in America and England.

With their 1980 effort, British Steel, Judas Priest had proven a point - unlike many rock bands, they had survived the transition from the seventies to the eighties. The turning of the decade caused some bands to change their sounds too drastically to maintain an audience, and some bands simply couldn't keep up. with changing trends. Likewise, many rock bands of this period were haunted by member deaths (it was in this time period that Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham lost his life.) But, astonishingly, Priest was not among these bands that would be destroyed. The band released its seventh album, Point Of Entry, in 1981. For some strange reason, this album had different covers in the US and the UK. American audiences got the cover shown on this page, featuring a blue carpet rolled out on the desert, while British audiences got one of a beam in the sky (if you want to see the other cover, pay a visit to Amazon UK (there's a link at the bottom of this page.))Read on for my review of the album.

Before I begin analyzing this album track by track, I should probably state that this is Judas Priest's hardest Halford-era album to review, simply because it's probably their most different-sounding one. But, the difference doesn't hurt the band at all. The band kicks the album off with a highly memorable rocker, Heading Out To The Highway. This track is quite similar to Living After Midnight from their previous album, and that's a good thing. This album didn't spawn any really big hits, but that's not a bad thing - underrated masterpieces are the strength of this album. Another one of Priest's underrated classics, Hot Rockin', can be found on this album. This song is so excellent that it found its way onto many of the band's hits compilations - even though it was never a big hit. The slighty more melodic Desert Plains is another great track that has become a fan favorite over the years. Too bad this song was never as popular as, say, Breaking The Law, because it's equally good, if not better. You Say Yes is a weird but still excellent track - it's a hard one to describe, but it's good nonetheless. And, of course, who could forget Troubleshooter? Was it ever a big hit? No. Does that matter? No. The song rocks, no questions asked. Overall this album manages to be one of Judas Priest's most underrated albums.

Like the other Judas Priest remasters, this one includes two bonus tracks - here you get an rare studio session entitled Thunder Road, and a live take on Desert Plains. Thunder Road is a good track, but it can't quite measure up to some of the actual album's better tracks. It's above average for a bonus track, though. The live take on Desert Plains is good, but like the live tracks on other reissued Priest albums, it's nothing too special. If you own the older pressing of this album on CD, it's not necessary to buy the album again for the sake of two bonus tracks, but if you don't own the album, make sure you get the new edition, as they are a nice extra.

Point Of Entry is an excellent Judas Priest album, and while not their best, it is still excellent. If you're a fan of the band, I strongly recommend buying this album. However, it may take some time for it to grow on you - this isn't an album you should judge on first impressions.

1 out of 5 stars Oh Please Just Avoid this.......2005-08-02

I own this because I bought all the Remasters as a set.

Having said that I will tell you that I bought this the week it was released back in 1981 and I hated it then and I hate it more now. The only thing worse than "Hot Rockin'" is that AWFUL damn video for it.

      Bad Judas Priest.

4 out of 5 stars "Oh everybody breaks down sooner or later".......2004-07-16

Judas Priest's 1981 Point of Entry was the follow-up to the classic British Steel. Speaking in vinyl terms, if Point of Entry consisted of the entire first side and "Solar Angels" from side two, it would be 5-star and Priest's most solid album. Unfortunately, it continues with some of Priest's worst tracks.

First, the best stuff: The first three songs also sport music videos available on the video Fuel for Life. "Heading Out to the Highway" is the best of the bunch, but "Don't Go" and "Hot Rockin'" are also excellent, catchy tracks. I really like "Turning in Circles." It is a fun, kick back rocker. "Desert Plains" is excellent. It is a slower track dominated by some thundering drums by Dave Holland (now serving 8 years for a sexual assault conviction). The song transports its listener across desert plains. It is very well done. "Solar Angels" doesn't blow one away but is a solid, catchy track. It is almost of the style of a British Steel song as it is a driving, repetitive song with no chorus (like "Rapid Fire" and "Steeler"). If it had the grinding guitar sound, it would fit very well on British Steel.

Now for the bad stuff: The rest of the album is terrible. "You Say Yes" is just annoying, especially the chorus. The quiet bridge is the best part. Parts of "All the Way" sound a little like "Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise," but it is not in the same league as that excellent British Steel track. "Troubleshooter" is also annoying and "On the Run" is a little better, but not by much. Although this album breaks down at the end, the best tracks are so good that this album is still worthy of 4 stars.

      4 out of 5 stars A remarkable effort.......2003-06-26

This album sounds just as good as it did 20 years ago. Even though it's not on the same plain as Vengeance and British Steel, it still packs a punch. The album is rock solid until around track 8 and then it looses a little steam. But still, a very kickin' album from a band that delivered the metal goods for decades.

2 out of 5 stars What the hell?.......2002-12-29

I bought this album knowing of only Heading out to the Highway which is a very kool song. When I listned to the whole album I was not too happy. Desert Plains,Solar Angels and Heading Out To The Highway are the only 3 I like on this album. JP were criticized more for TURBO than POINT OF ENTRY. I find TURBO to be better than POINT OF ENTRY. It sounds like JP didnt work very hard on this album. While the 3 songs I mentioned are very good I just don't care for the remaining songs.

      4 out of 5 stars Can't Believe I'm Writing A Review For This!.......2002-10-26

When I was in junior high school in the early 80's I worshipped Judas Priest. "Point Of Entry" is probably their best album in my opinion...back then they were called "albums" by the way.

"Turning Circles," "Hot Rockin'," "Heading Out To The Highway," "Solar Angels," "Desert Plains" and "Turning Circles" were all great tunes and every once in a while I still crank them up on my RoadRunner Rhapsody Software account for a nostalgic kick.

"British Steel," "Point Of Entry" and "Screaming For Vengeance" were definitely the pinnacle of the group's musical career.

Who could forget the old MTV videos of Heading Out To The Highway and Hot Rockin'? Although Rob Halford's admissions to being openly gay were a bit of a shock to me and my macho, heavy metal listening former self, I still respect and enjoy their music regardless, much like the mainstream still enjoys Queen...music is music.

"You Say Yes," "All The Way," and "Troubleshooter" are also quality tunes from Heavy Metal's glory days on this release that have always been under-appreciated.

While gay, hairy, macho guys in leather might give us heterosexual guys the squeamies, no one knew it back then and the subject material of their songs generally referred to women or just plain macho man antics.

Do I feel "betrayed" by Judas Priest being a former big fan as a girl crazy youngster? No, because I never even felt or saw a bit of sexuality in their music, it was just good, hard rockin' British metal.

Point Of Entry is truly one of the finest Heavy Metal albums ever created.

      Rock on.

4 out of 5 stars The point of entry case.......2002-12-24

This is not the best JP album neither the worst. It contains great tracks as "Desert Plains" but contains mediocre tracks as "You say yes" too. The first 5 tracks are excellent but the remainder of the cd is not worth much.

If you are a Priest fan buy it! If you aren't, I recommend you British Steel!
