This is an easy joke, but..........2007-08-01
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus came out of nowhere with the single "Face Down", which laments about abuse toward women, and the song became popular enough to have their album reach gold status. But does a hit song translate into a hit album?
The answer is no. Basically, the fact that the quintet named their album Don't You Fake It is quite ironic, considering that they appear to be an emo band trying really hard to be a metal band or something. Some people might say it's too soon to assume this because it's only their first album, but lead vocalist Ronnie Winter has a habit of doing loud, deep grunge-like screaming just for the sake of doing it. This is evident in selections like "Justify", "In Fate's Hands" (the song that inspired the album's title) and "Atrophy". And speaking of "Atrophy", that song doesn't sound much different from "Face Down".
The only other song that really stands out aside from "Face Down" is the necessary end-of-album acoustic song, "Your Guardian Angel", because the rest of the songs really don't go anywhere. I don't mean to sound cruel, but the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus needs a lot more substance in their material because right now, having their album titled Don't You Fake It makes me think they should take their own advice.

Flat-Out Unique.......2007-06-21
This is one solid band. Although I enjoyed the demo of "Face Down" (recorded in 2005 or 2006, I believe) more than the re-recorded version on this CD, it gives you some thing a little twisted. And I don't mean that in a horrific or bad way.
It's nearly impossible to fit this band under a genre other than Alternative. Believe me, it is. This band has so many different sounds of music, varying from pop-punk to metal to screamo to post-hardcore, it gives you some thing not very many artists aim for, these days. It's a good change for those looking for some thing new.
"In Fate's Hands" is an energetic start to a great album, as the position of the first track. "...Who finally understand, what it takes to make this dream come true..." It gives you the message that they really write themselves, and really give a crud about their music, and not their image, unlike many mainstream bands. Hell, just look at the band's name.
They have some meaningful lyrics, to say the least. They have a good beat. They have a freaking awesome vocalist (or in this case, vocalists, because since I last checked, they all sing). They have a unique sound. They'll make you go crazy.
Pick this up if you have the money and the chance. You won't be disappointed, let me tell ya.
No, I'm not a kid........2007-06-13
First of all, I'm over 13. I just just afraid to say my mom's credit card number and real name and everything in the registration. This is a GREAT album. It's not a rip off emo band like a couple people who only gave this album 1 star said. This CD has great songs on it that people can relate to."Seventeen Ain't So Sweet" is probably one of the better songs on this album.

**sigh**.......2007-05-19
this is a rip-off band. it takes all band's work and changes the guitar and lyrics. im sick of emo bands just coming out and all they do is complain, scream about slitting their wrist, and saying how horrible life is. i even saw the music video for Face Down and they have their hair completly in their eyes pertending they are all that. i agree with whoever wrote "This is a Boy-Band that screams"

i doubted them at first..........2007-07-13
When I had first heard of the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, I immediately judged them by their name. I made the assumption that they were just another emo band with a stupid name. They began to win me over when I heard their first single off of the CD called "Face Down." It is a song addressing domestic abuse and as a woman all about female independence and strength I really could appreciate it. Their next single, "False Pretense," is easy for anyone to relate to. Who hasn't ever been through the feeling of being betrayed? Overall, i have completely changed my opinion about these guys. Initially I didn't give them a chance. The whole album is excellent and I would especially recommend "Your Guardian Angel," which is the "slow song" of the CD. Oh and also, it was just yesterday that they reaffirmed my love of this band and CD. I saw them perform live and was absolutely amazed. I am a seasoned concert goer and these guys were just awesome. The lead singer has this presence and his voice never once faltered. I strongly recommend this CD to almost anyone. If you don't like it, I'm sure you can find someone who will.
I hate emo/screamo with a passion, but this isn't half-bad..........2007-05-14
As a matter of fact, I think they got lumped in with all sorts of horrible bands that didn't do these Florida kids any justice. They are more powerpop in structure and melody, with the occasional scream placed as an accent...they don't distract from the songs themselves.
The 2 singles "Face Down" and "False Pretense" are pretty good songs with decent, unpredictable melodies and swell 3-part harmonies. There is both youthful vigor and dark themes like domestic violence that resonates pretty deeply.
I am actually surprised I like this record and this band, to be honest, and that's why sometimes labeling is a bad thing...the emo/screamo tag almost shut RJA out of my existence.
This deluxe CD/DVD is a decent package...I'm surprised this record got this treatment, but it was a hit. There are 2 bonus songs on the CD...the 11 plus unlisted 12th...14 total, and a nice DVD with videos of the 2 singles, an interview, behind the scenes footage, and even photo cards of all band members...nice.
Give this a chance, you might like this band...I am surprised I do, and I'm not a kid either.

Redifined the genre!!!.......2007-04-14
What an album!!!! Aborted really changes through time, injecting more melody in each song with catchy guitar riffs. Like the "Archaic's Abbatoir" the drums are fast that you can't believe, the bass lines makes a great contribution.!!! Death metal album of the year!!!
Human Gelatin: Nutritious and Delicious.......2007-03-30
Much like a Planned Parenthood employee, I like everything aborted. Slaughter and Apparatus: A Methodical Overture is a heaping pile of puke- and puss-covered viscera. Since Aborted is a gore-grind/death metal band, I have to assume that's what they were going for. Not only is the CD as brutal as a rabid ape cannibalizing himself while sexually assaulting his mother, it's also pretty damn catchy. A number of the songs--"The Chondrin Enigma" and "Avenious," for example--contain segments with a heavy groove that gets stuck in your brain like some kind of rare tumor or exotic worm. Jeff Walker's guest vocals on the songs "An Odious Emanation" and "A Methodical Overture" are an excellent addition, and Aborted's cover of "Surprise! You're Dead!" by Faith No More is very well done.
The CD is around forty-five minutes long, which is a good length, but as with any great CD, it always seems to be over too soon. I mean, I've already heard the album twice by the time I finish dissecting the neighbor's rottweiler.
Defining the term "Melodic Death Metal"........2007-03-17
I like the changes Aborted have taken. I do appreciate their more melodic approach. Sure, they are a little less grinding than in the past. But their riffs keep getting more and more memorable. They sound more directional with each release. And this one follows their natural progression. They haven't become softer. they have become more dynamic. The vocals still rage from intense growls to sweet highs. The product is better than before as Tue Madsen is improving his sound by taming his overly-digital sound to have a bit more of a warm edge, without sounding lo-fi by any means. And you can't bypass the killer guest spots of drumming from the Psycroptic guy, and Jeff Walker vocals.
Great album.......2007-03-09
This is the best album they've put out since "Engineering". It has more of a groove then Goremageddon but still very technical and fast. Has guest vocals from Jeff Walker and a couple of others. I seriously can't stop listening to it.
Perfection, Thy Name Is Aborted.......2007-03-08
I always thought of Aborted to be one of the most interesting death metal bands to ever come up. They don't carbon copy other bands, and their vocalist Sven has an amazing vocal range. On "Slaughter and Apparatus", Aborted continues with the melodic/brutal mix style that they did well with on "The Archaic Abbatoir" and they still do a magnificent job at it. With some crushing riffs in their music, how could you resist? Don't forget the guest vocals by Carcass's own Jeff Walker on "Odious Emanation". Recommended if you enjoyed Goremageddon and The Archaic Abbatoir.

Album Description
Describing the music of Frantic Bleep is not an easy task, as they mix many influences with considerable creativity and a strong sense of melody while retaining a high level of heaviness. Originality is a key factor for the band. Striving to always craft dynamic/experimental material will ensure no two songs will sound alike. Still, the band's music remains focused, and chaos never takes control.
The debut of these Norwegians `The Sense Apparatus' features 41 minutes of the most dramatic and massive music ever recorded by a metal band, including amazing production by Patrick Scantlebury and stunning artwork by Christian Ruud"Left to their own designs, they could become the Pink Floyd of metal" - PivotalRage"
Customer Reviews:
Surprisingly good..........2007-04-07
I shudder every time I decide to do a review of a band on The End Records. They're notorious for housing acts that are bizarre enough and so far off into left field that most attempts at coherent and informative reviews turn into humiliating displays of self-deprecation. Fortunately, humility isn't lost on me.
Actually, The Sense Apparatus isn't too weird so much as it's a bit unsure of itself.
Firstly, I'm torn on the vocals. Kjetil Fosseid sings in several distinct styles - a screech reminiscent of typical black metal, a strikingly beautiful melodic croon, a sort of distorted yelling, and various instances of soft, menacing whispers, brooding narration, and dark intonations that are entirely believable. Of these, his melodic voice is by far the most impressive and most fitting for the kind of music on display... though he doesn't use it as often as I'd like. There are also guest vocals from Madder Mortem's Agnete Kirkevaag - she's good.
The production is very thick. The guitars feel quite weighty, as though the chords themselves have a sense of physical mass. The drums have a chunky sound that's a bit overbearing - every single drum hit and every cymbal crash is completely distinct and powerful in its own right. The bass mostly resigns itself to the background, but is quite deep and does a wonderful job of making the overall picture complete.
The playing itself doesn't fail to include technical spasms that encompass the usual tempo shifts and rhythmic variations, but these things are not the focal point of the album, nor are they the point of the album at all. Frantic Bleep do not want to be a "progressive metal" band. The music here is not about crafting elaborate arrangements; it is not about instrumental wizardry; it is not about complicated rhythmic structuring; it is not about going out of your way to screw with melody and harmony until only the nerdiest of music nerds in the universe will "understand" what the hell it is you're actually playing.
So what is it about?
Atmosphere. Every note, every melody, and every lead exists to craft an atmosphere of longing, sorrow, despair, and hope (have a listen to "Sins of Omission" - gorgeous). The shifts in dynamics from dark, brooding ambience to austere assaults of metallic rage serve to create bleak emotional storms; unwavering shining beacons in a desolate wasteland of inhumanity. In doing this, Frantic Bleep succeed admirably.
Nice artwork, also.
(Prog?) Metal Gods!.......2007-03-17
Let me just say that I love Prog Rock and Metal. Opeth and Porcupine Tree definately get the most 'spins' in my cd collection. Frantic Bleep, however, is about to take a giant leap to the front of the line. This music goes beyond progressive...it's simply brilliant. I can't wait for their next album, which according to their website is nearing completion. Better buy this now so you'll be up to date when the new one gets here!
the epitome of originality.......2007-03-02
This is one of the finest pieces of avant-garde metal/hardcore/whatever you will ever come across. With face melting riffs and splintering arpeggios starkly contrasting with gentle, acoustic progressive hooks, one will immediately think of Opeth.. but Opeth this is not. Frantic Bleep definately have a sound all to their own, and a dosage of talent to keep this album fresh and riveting even after multiple listens. You will even find tinges of electronica scattered throughout this masterpiece for good measure, but you will never find anything out of place, awkward, or askew.. which is a true gem in the world of the avant-garde.
Incredible musicianship, arrangements... SCARY!.......2006-05-29
The first thing that struck me about this is the melody. It's not just melodic, but it's TROUBLING-it really frightens you! I can see a whole storyline with this kind of music, and it's enough to make one perspire in an Arctic landscape...I am very uncomfortable when I hear this, but I always want to hear it in its entirety because of its power.
The music and musicianship is beyond exceptional. It's a bit progressive, but not in a math-rock way. This kind of stuff is incredibly hard to sing to but the vocalist manages well enough. There are some iffy parts, when there's some screechy grindy elements, but on the whole, the vocalist(s) don't go over the top, which would be so very easy to do with this kind of music.
So beautiful. Hire Frantic Bleep for your Armageddon party. If there's enough time... (if they're still around...and they probably aren't in this lame day and age..)
Unique, well done, and highly recommended.......2006-04-28
It seems that The End records, as a label, specializes in bands that are ridiculously hard to describe in a review. I mean you have Ulver, Agalloch, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Sculptured, Subterranean Masquerade, Age Of Silence, Peccatum, Sigh, and Winds. If I were forced to accurately describe any of those bands's music with words I would probably fail miserably. And now you can add Frantic Bleep to their extremely impressive lineup.
So where to start here? Well I guess I'll start with vocals: Kjetil Fosseid's vocal style brings to mind something of a post-black metal, feel as he alternates between black metal's throaty screachs, and then a variety of whispering/singing/crooning/distorted singing that brings to mind Garm's work with Arcturus. Throughout the course of the album he displays awesome vocal talent, and primarily sticks to his beautiful singing which is probably a good thing, as it suits their music best.
As for the instruments, they focus primarily on atmosphere. The guitars and bass have a very chunky sound that reminds me a bit of Meshuggah, although not quite as angular or melody-less, especially in places like the opening riff of "Curtainraiser". They also provide their fair share of complexity, rhythm shifts, and speed, so for those who are traumatized by simple instrumentation should fear not. The leads and keyboards are what truly add atmosphere as they sprinkle simple yet effective complements to Kjetil Fosseid's vocals, creating a bizzare and effective futuristic atmosphere that I think many bands in this style try to achieve but most fail (Winds and Age of Silence come painfully to mind).
Atmosphere is what this album is truly about. And Frantic Bleep do far more than just create and bathe in it here, they make beautiful use of it. In a style similar to Opeth, they create emotion with dramatic shifts from soft, atmospheric sections to heavy, technical sections. Personally I love bands that do it because it just sends chills down my spine. The album is somewhat comparable to Opeth's My Arms, Your Hearse in its mood as well, somewhat doomy, but with moments of beauty and spiritual triumph included for dynamic effect.
I meandered a lot in this review, but it's a very hard album to describe... so just get it if you like progressive, atmospheric metal that is original without being overly weird. It is very well done and I can't wait to see where these Norweigeans will go with their follow-up.

I heard the song Michael and Anne on an Asian Man records comp and pretty much fell for the sound. I bought the album and thought how much it sucked at first. After about 2 more listens, it all stuck. There's ska, rockabilly, surf, all mixed with with a slight punk. Lead singer CHris Murray is one of the best I've ever heard in a white ska band. Why the hell did they break up just when I started to buy their stuff and make them rich.
