The product was delivered on time at the price agreed on. I would do business with this person again.

5 out of 5 stars Best of the Def Leppard compilations released to date.......2006-06-27

As of June 2006, Def Leppard has released 3 compilations: "Vault", "Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection", and this set, the "Best Of". (If you want to inlcude the hard-to-find "Rock Vault", which includes Vault and a seperate disc of previously released tracks, then it would be 4 compilations). And in my opinion, this one is their best so far, but not by much.

Why? What makes this collection better than "Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection"?

It's true that both this set and "ROA" have almost the same set of songs, including the usual suspects, like "Photograph", "Bringing On The Heartbreak" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me".

It's the songs that one contains that the other one doesn't, that really makes the difference for me, regardless of the price.

The songs on "Best Of" that are not on "ROA" are:
"Action", "Long, Long Way To Go", "Make Love Like A Man", "Waterloo Sunset"

The songs on "ROA" that are not on "Best Of" are:
"Miss You In A Heartbeat", "Switch 625", "No Matter What", "Mirror, Mirror (In My Eyes)", "Paper Sun"

Also, there are edited versions of "Rocket" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" on "ROA" as opposed to the album versions that are on "Best Of". But "ROA" has a total of 35 tracks as opposed to "Best Of" which has 34. And "ROA" costs about $10 USD less than "Best Of".

My preference is "Best Of". But, which one should YOU buy? It all depends on which one has the tracks you really want and how much you want to spend? But, hey, you can always buy both, right?

5 out of 5 stars Here is what I have to say about "Best Of".......2005-09-17

I have been reading what others have been putting as pros and cons, well now I'm another Def Leppard fan, here is what I have to say about Vault, Best Of and Rock Of Ages.

I live in the USA so here it is...

I bout Vault ions ago on cassette I like the album. Now the later 2 albums are also known as Super Vault, here is what I'm doing. I downloaded Can't Keep Away From The Fire (which is the bonus track on the Japanese release of Vault). I am putting togther the 2 CD version of Best of with the remaining songs on Rock of Ages. Then I have Can't Keep...finally I just the other day purchased on here the box set version of Vault which comes with the bonus live disc, I am also including that so after all of that I will have all the versions of Vaut, all the versions of Best of and Rock of Ages together as one "Super Vault" collection. I know some people will say that is still not enough, but hey, it's a more complete verion of Vault. I am not doing this because I think they are lacking I'm doing this beacuse I can listen to all of them with changing the cds less.

5 out of 5 stars Def Leppard still rocks!.......2005-09-03

This is a great CD with old and current music! I just love it! There music is still great after all these years

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Def Leppard Collection, But "Rock Of Ages" Is Better.......2005-07-07

Def Leppard is my favorite band ever. I love pretty much everything these guys do. I loved these guys since I got a copy of 1995's greatest hits "Vault". That 15 song collection was a very good starting point for Leppard fans like myself, but when I finished listening to it, I immediately knew I was missing out on a lot of other great stuff.

Well, now there are two single disc Def Leppard collections out on the market. One is the American release "Rock Of Ages: The Definitive Collection" and the other in is simply titles "Best Of". Now, I only have the American release of this album, which save for a few tracks, the sequencing on disc two and a much better cover, is identical to the import version. Which one should you by? Here's my review.

If you're a beginning Leppard fan, than either of these collections should suit you fine. Either way you slice it, you're going to get all time rock classics like "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Armageddon It" and "Photograph". You're also going to get a second disc of lesser known gems like "Let It Go", "Die Hard The Hunter" and "Billy's Got A Gun", plus one new song (The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset" on this version, Badfinger's "No Matter What" on the other.

However, while both are excellent, "Rock Of Ages" has the advantage. Here are a few reasons why:

1)This cd does not include the unedited version of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" that leads into "Switch 625", and "ROA" does. These two songs belon together. Plain and simple.
2)"ROA" has "Mirror Mirror" and "Miss You In A Heartbeat" on it. These songs are amongst their most underrated work, and they belong on any Lep collection
3) Better cover art! The one on here looks like dull, but "ROA's" screamd Def Leppard!

So in conclusion, this is good, but I'd recommend "Rock Of Ages" instead.

4 out of 5 stars Breaking the vault into bits.......2004-12-13

Do yourself a favor - This anthology is available as a double disc version. More songs, more comprehensive and a better value. Get that one instead.

The double disc best of is like having a Def Lep super hits jukebox. Thirty four tracks, rather neatly divided into two discs, packed to the gills and a nifty liner book with band members commenting on the songs (personal favorite, "Slang" was about phone sex!). This twin CD renders the old "Vault" superfluous.

I have no problems with the songs being inconsequentially listed. I don't want a history lesson, I want to rock. By opening the first disc with the still amazing "Pour Some Sugar On Me," you're put on notice that the music is out to party you hearty.

This set leans more to the pop hit sound that was exemplified by "Pyromania" and "Hysteria." It also leans heavily on those titles; since songs from two albums comprise half of the CD. But you also get "Bringing On The Heartbreak," the power ballad that put "High and Dry" over the top, and their killer cover of Sweet's "Action" from the odds and ends "Retro-Active." (The harder rock and less known material comes forth on disc two of the double set. Disc Two is also the source of this collection's sole new song, a rather subdued but still distinctly Def cover of The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset.")

The liner notes promise a covers album in 2005, and given their choice of influences (Kinks and Sweet...strange roots, guys!) I am very interested to see how Def Leppard enters middle age.

3 out of 5 stars Def Leppard tries to make a better compilation..........2004-11-15

Super Vault (2004.) Def Leppard's second hits compilation.

[Let me start this review by saying that you will NOT find a bigger Def Leppard fan than myself - THAT'S the reason I'm being so harsh in this review in some areas.]

Def Leppard was one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time - in the eighties and early nineties, that is. The group's style of pop-flavored hard rock was tough to match, and it seemed that the group could do no wrong... until the mid-nineties. The group eventually abandoned their metal roots, becoming a POP BAND. The once-great band had finally fallen. It was in 1995 that they released their first hits compilation, Vault, which failed terribly on many levels - the songs were not in order, the tracklist overemphasized some albums and underemphasized others, too many songs were from the later (and less good years), and so forth. Now in 2004, in an attempt to recapture some of their former glory (ha ha ha), the band has released a second hits compilation - the dual-disc Super Vault. Is this an improvement over the old package, or is it another dismal failure? Read on to find out.

PROS:
-IN TERMS OF THE SHEER VARIETY OF MATERIAL REPRESENTED HERE, THIS COMPILATION PUTS THE OLD ONE TO SHAME. The old compilation only covered 1981-1995, and this one covers 1980-2004! That one had fifteen tracks, and this one has thirty-four - nineteen more! If you're gonna get one of the compilations, this is the obvious choice.
-IF IT WAS A BIG HIT, IT'S HERE. Def Leppard had no shortage of hits, and they're all here. Many of them missed a slot on the original Vault, and many of those "deprived" hits get their proper respects here.
-LOTS OF UNDERRATED SONGS. One thing I dissed the original Vault for is its lack of material from the earlier albums. This album somewhat succeeds at correcting this flaw. Many tracks from High 'N' Dry and Pyromania that were never hits are on here - and they deserve to be. It surprised the hell out of me (in a GOOD way) that the band chose to put Die Hard The Hunter on here!
-YOU GET A NEW SONG! The compilation features the previously unreleased track - Waterloo Sunset.

CONS:
-WHY ARE THERE ONLY TWO TRACKS FROM THE BAND'S DEBUT ALBUM, ON THROUGH THE NIGHT!? Lack of tracks from this album was my biggest complaint with the original Vault (that one had NO songs from this album), and I can't believe the band made the same mistake twice. The omission of Hello America is unforgivable. And what about Sorrow Is A Woman, When The Walls Came Tumbling Down, and The Overture? For shame, Def Leppard.
-THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR THE SONGS NOT BEING IN THE ORIGNAL RELEASE ORDER! Yet another mistake made on the original Vault that wasn't corrected here. This makes for a very awkward listen that is bound to confuse fans new to the band.
-NONE OF THE BAND'S PRE-ALBUM MATERIAL CAN BE FOUND HERE. This sucks, since none of this material has ever been officially released on CD (The Def Leppard EP, for example.) The original version of Ride Into The Sun would have been a nice track to put on here.
-TOO MUCH EMPHASIS ON THE POP YEARS. I'm glad the CD focuses on the rock years, but there are too many junk tracks from the band's pop period. How the hell could they put Now on here instead of Comin' Under Fire? Even with all the emphasis on the pop years, one major pop hit from the nineties is missing - All I Want Is Everything. Why?
-THE UNRELEASED SONG IS A MONEYMAKING PLOY. Every band does this to sell their hits compilations, so that people who own most of this material will be shelling over cash for the sake of a single track. It should have just been released as a single.
-WHY RELEASE A NEW COMPILATION INSTEAD OF A BOX SET? The band desperately needs to release all of their albums together in a box set, with rarities as bonuses. Doing that would have been a much smarter move than releasing this compilation, and it would have made the band more money.

OVERALL:
This compilation is a major step up from the original Vault - but sadly, it ends up failing in most of the same areas that that compilation did. Your best bet would be to get all of the band's albums (start with Pyromania and Hysteria.) No compilation will ever truly do this band justice.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible set of tracks.......2004-11-11

Once again, the def rules. All my favorite tracks appear in this collection. The recording is outstanding. I noticed diverse details in the songs which I have never heard. A US edition will be released on spring 2005 with certain songs which were hits in the US. Never mind, the tracks appearing in this collection are the ONES. Def rules, less we forget!

4 out of 5 stars Puting The Def into Definitive.......2005-03-25

This double disc best of is like having a Def Lep super hits jukebox. Thirty four tracks, rather neatly divided into two discs, packed to the gills and a nifty liner book with band members commenting on the songs (personal favorite, "Slang" was about phone sex!). This twin CD renders the old "Vault" superfluous.

I have no problems with the songs being nonsequentially listed. I don't want a history lesson, I want to rock. By opening the first disc with the still amazing "Pour Some Sugar On Me," you're put on notice that the music is out to party you hearty. What KIND of Leppard party depends on the disc you load into your player.

Disc One seems to lean more to the pop hit sound that was exemplified by "Pyromania" and "Hysteria." It also leans heavily on those titles; since songs from two albums comprise half of CD 1. But you also get "Bringing On The Heartbreak," the power ballad that put "High and Dry" over the top, and their killer cover of Sweet's "Action" from the odds and ends "Retro-Active." The harder rock and less known material comes forth on disc two. "On Through The Night," which was ignored on "Vault," gets two choice cuts on the second CD, and "High and Dry" rates three. Def Leppard's experimental side also shows here, with "Slang" and "Now" from their underrated 90's albums. "Die Hard The Hunter" was probably the closest The Leps ever came to copping to the Zeps, and it is a pleasant surprise to find that song as the closer to the set.

Disc Two is also the source of this collection's sole new song, a rather subdued but still distinctly Def cover of The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset." The liner notes promise a covers album in 2005, and given their choice of influences (Kinks and Sweet...strange roots, guys!) I am very interested to see how Def Leppard enters middle age.

4 out of 5 stars Good ... but why ?.......2004-12-16

This compilation is far superior to the previous Vault Greatest Hits CD.
It has a far broader perspective of the band's history and the new Waterloo Sunset cover has really grown on me.
I guess my only question is: Why ? I'm beginning to notice alot of bands releasing yet another "Greatest Hits" Van Halen, Motley Crue and now Def Leppard - these bands have 1 or even 2 Greatest Hits out there already. Are they really needed ?
I really like this CD but I wish they maybe would have chosen a different route (like remastered versions of their catalog or a live CD).
If you are a fan - this CD is a good investment. Remastered tracks from the past (Wasted, Rock Brigade and Rock Rock Til' You Drop) sound great. It just makes me want a little more.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Good band, weak compilation.......2004-12-22

Vault (1995.) Def Leppard's first hits compilation.

From their formation in the mid-late seventies to the modern day, Def Leppard has been one of the most consistent rock bands out there. From their days as part of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) to their days as a classic hard rock band in the eighties to their modern days as a pop-rock band, they rarely fail to please. It took them long enough, but at long last we have a Def Leppard greatest hits compilation. How does it measure up? Read on for my review of Vault.

PROS:
-If you're a very casual fan, and the big hits are all you're looking for, this might be enough for you. You get hits like Pour Some Sugar On Me, Bringin' On The Heartbreak, Rock Of Ages, Photograph, and many more.
-There are many underrated tracks here as well.
-There is a new recording.
-Two rare edited versions of tracks can be found here.
-Import versions of the compilation features a bonus disc of live hits.
-Since this came out in 1995, there are no tracks for the horrible Slang and X albums.

CONS:
-The cover of the compilation lies. There are NO TRACKS FROM 1980 on here! That means no tracks from the band's first (and in my opinion best) album, On Through The Night.
-WAY TOO MUCH EMPHASIS ON HYSTERIA. HALF OF THE ALBUM IS ON HERE!
-A few hits are missing - Hello America, Too Late For Love, and Women.
-Too many of the band's underrated masterpieces are missing - Sorrow Is A Woman, It Could Be You, Ride Into The Sun (Version One), Rocks Off, Overture, Lady Strange, High 'N' Dry (Saturday Night), Gods Of War, Comin' Under Fire, Billy's Got A Gun, and many others.
-This needed to be a two-disc compilation. Perhaps one disc of hits and one disc of underrated tracks would have been a good idea.
-No tracks from the 1999 Euphoria album since this came out in 1995.
-No lyrics included.
-Two Steps Behind and Miss You In A Heartbeat are the inferior acoustic versions, not the superior electric versions.
-Too many ballads.
-The two-disc Super Vault isn't a whole lot better, but it IS better.

OVERALL:
If you're seeking an introduction to Def Leppard, BUY THE PYROMANIA AND HYSTERIA ALBUMS - DO NOT BUY THIS. Hits compilations are often a scattershot mix of mediocre tracks that do nothing more than give you a small sample of the band's talent - and Def Leppard is no exception. Get their albums instead - I can't stress that enough.
