BEWARE!!! Unauthorized recording! Poorly mastered!.......2003-02-26
I will get straight to the point: The CD is a poorly mastered, unauthorized recording of the original Carmen Jones cast recording using ancient recordings of the original 78 records. Pearl Records did not, repeat DID NOT receive Decca Broadway's permission to make this recording. However, Decca Broadway DID remaster FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTERS OF "CARMEN JONES" which sounds 100 times better than this thing and includes liner notes and pictures! Purchase the Decca Broadway recording instead. Frankly, this recording should rot!
A Unique Blend!.......2001-07-03
This soundtrack is a unique blend of vocals and brilliant instrumentals. While the songs aren't great, the performance is really wonderful!

this album is a molten slab of British proto metal worthy of any serious Metal collection. KNOCK IT BACK PLEASURE SEEKERS!
EXCELLENT REISSUE OF A CLASSIC NWOBHM LP!!!!.......2005-05-21
Wow!!!! I've been waiting for years for someone to FINALLY release QUARTZ-"Stand Up And Fight"(1980) on CD. Thankfully, Majestic Records did an awesome job remastering and releasing this classic album. The packaging is great and the price is right, especially compared to the cost of an original copy of this LP on vinyl. Soundwise, QUARTZ was the quintessential New Wave of British Heavy Metal band(releasing their first LP, "Quartz" in 1977), blending Sabbath-like riffs with uptempo hard rock, creating a molten blend of stoned out early metal. QUARTZ does NOT sound like Priest or Maiden, but more like debut-era Tygers of Pan Tang or Holocaust. This LP is essential for metalheads who are trying to FULLY experience the magic of the NWOBHM. In my opinion, owning a copy of QUARTZ-"Stand Up And Fight" should be a REQUIREMENT for true 'metalhead' status. Pick up a copy, smoke a joint(or enjoy some 'Charlie Snow'), crank it up, and find out why!!!!
Ugh!.......2005-03-03
I realize that this album is supposed to be a staple of NWOBHM, but it just doesn't impress me much. In fact, it sounds pretty awful to me. It's not that the band's talents aren't there (they seem to be very good musicians, including the vocalist), it's just that they don't seem to click. Not like Maiden or Priest or Diamond Head or Saxon and the rest of their peers anyway. The lyrics are typical for the genre, but where most band's technical skills and chemistry make their subject matter forgivable, the clumsiness of the vocals against the music draws too much attention to the lyrical cheese. There are a few songs here that work, but the brunt of the album seems very unfocused to me. I'm going to try "Deleted" before I totally write them off however. And this review is written by a guy who doesn't see anything special about Angel Witch either, so you may want to take that into consideration. But I do love the feel that most NWOBHM gives me--that sense of danger and otherworldly adventure, if you will--it's just that I'm not able to find that disctinct feeling here.
Quartz's classic NWoBHM masterpiece.......2004-10-18
Stand Up And Fight was an incredible album that many people believe to be the finest NWoBHM album made. The music still has the Sabbath crunch that Quartz lovingly duplicated, however Quartz always had their own sound. The title track is nice way to start the action, "Revenge" is a very heavy track with a great riff, "Charlie Snow" is great too. This was the last Quartz album with the original line up. 1983's Against All Odds is still out of print, but it is my fave by Quartz.
