Sounding like the confident, ambitious superstars they already are in their native UK, Muse follows up their breakthrough Absolution with an album that tempers the trio's unabashed grandiosity and apocalyptic obsessions with a smart pop groove. The minimalist angst of the opening "Take A Bow" may bridge the goth-pop conceits of the collection's successful predecessor, but those expectations are quickly kicked aside by "Starlight"'s synth-pop bliss, the falsettoed, space-disco thump of "Supermassive Black Hole" and the chilly, New Wave redux sheen of "Map of the Problematic"; so much for being held hostage to those early Radiohead comparisons. Indeed, on the lilting "Soldier's Poem" vocalist Matthew Bellamy cannily channels Freddie Mercury while "Assassin" pulses with the familiar metallic nerve and lyrical dread of Muse past. But by the time "Knights of Cydonia" erupts in a wrenching, melodramatic climax that somehow fuses ELP, Davie Allan, Procul Harum and Chris Isaak with enough giddy abandon to suspend disbelief, Muse have long since proved their case as genre-be-damned rock world-beaters. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
In 2004, U.K. favorite Muse broke through in the U.S. with Absolution and major performances across America that won legions of new fans. In 2006, Muse takes a bold new step with Black Holes And Revelations, a powerful, upbeat epic album that takes the band's music to a whole dimension. Once again co-produced by Rich Costey (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Muse incorporates influences from electronica and Prince to pure pop. The album is sure to be a revelation to those still unfamiliar with the 2005 Brit award winner for Best Live Act who headlines this summer's Reading and Leeds festivals.

One of the best albums that I have ever heard........2007-08-02
Amazing, I put this guys in the same ranking of Led Zeppelin, U2 and Queen. What is happening with the US bands that can not achieve this quality? (with the exception of The Killers and maybe Snow Patrol).
Put This In A Black Hole.......2007-07-17
I bought this album because I went to a lyric site and their lyrics for a song on Absolution were insightful. Once I received the album I was consumed with disappointment. This world is suffering from the disease of delusion, religion is the opiate of the masses, and it is more destructive than heroin. The ignorance of musicians spouting their idiotic rhetoric, which perpetuates the myths that god exists and we have souls is sickening. Lyrics are a main component of music and musicians have to write lyrics that people can relate to in order to provide catharsis. Hopefully this band will cease to exist so intelligent artists will thrive in our culture and challenge the ignorance that infects everything.
filling the gap.......2007-07-16
a powerful, sonic stimulant that breathes fresh life into the current rock world. At their best, they capture the excitement of a band like Depeche Mode, delivering rhythmic surprises at every turn while being accessible and addictive. Muse demonstrates a deft combination of guitars with synths and manages to fill the gap left between the purists on either side. They are melodic and soothing while rocking.
The Killers are coming to town (for which I already have tickets) but Muse is showing up a few days later...think I'm gonna have to try to swing this one, as well.
Stripes of Grandeur.......2007-07-16
Absoltuion in my opinion is the most perfect album ever made. Not because it's my favorite, but the songs shift perfectly as if to form a soundtrack to an dramatically epic movie.
Black Holes unfortunately has too many lacking songs. The majority of the album is mediocre and not really catchy, however its key tracks are the best muse has ever made. First of all, "Starlight" is their first attempt at an uplifting track the end result is honestly the best song i have ever heard. I swear i've been trying for a year and i can't get sick of it.
"Map of the Problematique" is also better than any other song muse has recorded. It's fast yet haunting in the most sinister way. This song grips me in a way i cant ignore. It continues to get more and more eerie as the song goes on, without letting the beat get stale. I just can never stop raving about this song, i think it's gorgeous and one of the best songs ever written. The only reason i like starlight more is because i'm just not depressed enough for this song 24/7.
"City of Delusion" and "Knights of Cydonnia" are also very catchy tracks that i listen to regularly. They allow muse to tap into a downing rock that isnt dark enough to enter a state of overdramatic. This is how they broke away from Absolution. Other than that the rest of the album is kind of a wash. It wont bore you, but you wont be placing them on repeat.
If nothing else, download "starlgiht" and "Map of the Problematique." These 2 tracks are arguably muse's finest and must be admired.
Simply Astounding.......2007-07-06
Much like thier earlier works and but still a brand new sound.
Take a Bow is reminicent of thier older Radioheadeaque sound while Black Holes and Revelations contains more of a funk sound to it.
And if anyone is interested in the upcoming Guitar Here. Knights of Cydonia, which is also on this albulm, will be on it.

The novelty of Audioslave has had time to wear off. The grouping of ex-Rage Against the Machine members and ex-Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell is no longer new; and time has long since come for the band to live or die based solely on the merits of its music, not on the reputation of its members. The good news is that, at least for now, the group is in a position to do exactly that. On Revelations, the band channels and updates the unapologetic boogie of Ian Gillan-era Deep Purple on tunes such as "One and the Same," "Shape of Things to Come," and "Wide Awake" with ease, inspiring awe and genuine surprise. Guitarist Tom Morello has rarely sounded as fresh as he does on the stomp-and-stammer "Original Fire" and the otherwise disposable grunge retread "Somedays." Not every track here can be as good as the opening title cut and a few--the should-be moving ballad "Until We Fall," the closing "Moth"--fall painfully short. But there is enough strength here to suggest that Audioslave's ability to deliver jaw-dropping albums remains intact and its ability to live up to the hype is lagging just a step or two behind. --Jedd Beaudoin
Customer Reviews:
Pardon my gushing but this album is REALLY GOOD!!.......2007-07-06
I am a fan of Chris Cornell's. I have all of Soundgarden's albums and am going to buy his solo albums too. Like Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell is a brilliant singer and songwriter and his teaming up with the former members of Rage Against the Machine was an excellent move since all three of the albums put out by Audioslave are top-notch rock and roll.
Cornell's voice is clear and polished and the precussion members (especially Tom Morello) do very well together and I was sorely disappointed to find out about Audioslave's demise. Cornell's music is a work of art and all of Audioslave's CDs would do his former band, Soundgarden, proud.
Hopefully Audioslave will do a reunion tour. Meantime, this and Audioslave's other 2 CDs belong in everyone's CD collection.
Losing the edge.......2007-07-05
Got to admit that I was a major fan of this group after the first AudioSlave cd. Then Out of Exile which had just a little bit less energy. And Revelations, well, just as well they break up I suppose. Chris Cornell's name is up on the marquee over at Denver's Filmore. I just wonder if these guys knew what a good thing they had going? I salute AudioSlave for what they once were!
Great sound... I like this rock band.......2007-06-25
Back again', Audioslave bring to us a very nice piece that include cool rock sounds.
Revelations, what a song!.......2007-06-06
Audioslave; Revelations, the supergroups third effort, has a more rhythmic and rough feel than their previous two albums, making it sound like it came out of a garage in the early 90's. From the biting second song to the closing arena singalong, the album visit's the bands journey through the mainstream, settling in a comfortable mix between Chris Cornell's melodic vocals, and the aggressive inventiveness that the former Rage Against the Machine members bring.
Chris Cornell was the long time lead singer for the hugely popular grunge band Soundgarden. After six albums and a decade of melancholy lyrics, he emerged into the next millennium with a solo album, Euphoria Morning, that reflected a more romantic and introspective message. After disappointing support, fans were thrilled that he was back to his hard rocking roots when he joined up with the recently disbanded and equally popular band Rage Against the Machine consisting of Tom Morello (guitarist), Tim Commerford (bass and backup vocals), and Brad Wilk (drums). The outcome was dynamite. As guitarist Tom Morello explored melodies, he put his personal mark on a unique heavy grooving style that seemed to speak to Cornell. Audioslave released three albums one right after the other. Incredibly all three were full of new and inspired music, different from the last and more matured as they went. It seemed that Chris Cornell, front man of over 20 years, was hitting his lyrical stride.
The first song and the album's namesake, Revelations is fast, upbeat, and Audioslave's trophy song gets the blood going. The kind of song you can listen to over and over again for hours, finding something new in it to enjoy every time. The rest of the songs ably backs it up with driving riffs, powerful epic choruses textured with subtle and soft verses, creating thrilling ebb and flow through the songs. They seamlessly incorporate groundbreaking solos with Cornell's sage vocal mastery, and they do it with incredibly inventive transitions creating awesome flow while reaching the extreme ups and downs, like a wall of voice and guitar hitting you between the ears as the chorus unfolds. The lyrics also have real life applications, for example equating a sinful life to a stray and beleaguered dog, who is found, and gets food and shelter in the end. Just as in the past two albums, he continues to write of spiritual struggles and questions, but the thankfulness and gratitude that comes through in his words show that some of his questions are getting answers.
The tracks consist of driving beats and hammering riffs, but while the verses can be delicate and polarizing, there is still room left for soft and sweet ballads that Chris Cornell gets his voice around so soundly. Audioslave also explores relatively new territory in Revelations with a small sidebar of political opinion. For Rage Against the Machine fans, political dialogue went hand in hand with their music, but Audioslave has seemed more discreet about mixing it into the music before now, allowing their websites and causes to funnel their political ideas.
Audioslave fans should be very pleased with another great album from the seasoned rockers. Revelations is an album on the same level as it's predecessors, setting higher expectations and redefining what a supergroup can do. With Robert Plant like vocals and groove metal sounds, Audioslave combines them in an album that both classic rock fans and head banging enthusiasts can enjoy. This album also reflects the musical truth that Soundgarden fans and Rage Against the Machine fans continue to learn, that rocking gets better with experience.
Remember Your Roots--Listen to this album!.......2007-05-22
Who says rock n roll is dead? This album brings it all back to where it should be. No screeching, carbon-copy, angst-ridden, eye-liner-wearing, sobbing for the chance to meet Marilyn Manson kid stuff here. Just good, clean, dirty rock, played with an ear for what's true and right. Rock on!!!

Blinking Lights and Other Revelations is a big, important record that's also devastatingly somber. Which, depending on how serious an Eels fan you are and the sturdiness of your psyche, can be taken as an endorsement or a warning. Shades of the band's superb sophomore effort, Electro-Shock Blues, recorded after the suicide of Everett's sister and the death of his father, show up here on such wounded tracks as "Checkout Blues," "If You See Natalie," and "I'm Going to Stop Pretending I Didn't Break Your Heart." Permeating those are instrumental snippets, some sad and ponderous ("Theme from Blinking Lights"), others bordering on bright ("Theme for a Pretty Girl that Makes You Believe God Exists"), and a handful of ironic exercises in straight-up pop (the winking "Going Fetal" and the cynical but upbeat "Hey Man [Now You're Really Living]"). Spread over two discs, the mood of Blinking Lights burns in fast and builds in its ferocity, so that when lighter moments like the funny "Whatever Happened to Soy Bomb" surface, they seem like ominous breaks in the storm. Though these songs make it easy to forget that Everett's gruff, fuzzed-over vocals have also graced fare breezy enough to be included on the Shrek soundtrack, their beauty delivers a thoughtful listener from caring. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Will they ever stop?.......2006-11-03
This album's best quality is that it combines both the "classic" Eels sound and a newer darker sound. The Eels prove once again that they can set any mood and write about any subject in a gloriously playful and engaging way.
A New Fan.......2006-07-29
I'd never heard of the Eels before and I can't even remember where I read a glowing review of Blinking Lights... but this music is incredible. For someone just discovering this band, I'm dumbstruck. For everyone who discovered these guys before me, lucky you.
How this isn't an "Amazon Essential" escapes me.......2006-07-08
I am embarrassed to admit i heard eels for the first time only a couple of months ago, and it started with Blinking Lights. When I heard the backstory to this album and listened to it, I was floored. And I will admit it did take some serious initial listening to get the magnitude of what is going on in the two disks. But after the hooks/melody of the second track and the vocals of the third track, he had my attention for the rest of the two disks, and the last track is the worth the price of the disk itself, but I'll get to that later. Musically E is nothing short of a genius. Yes at first i thought Eels whas a Beck "light" retread, but that can't be further from the truth. There's Danny Elfman, Tom Waits, (literally) that great use of 60's style organ. I hear the traditional folk song structure on so many tracks, and how he disguises and buries theses structures through instrumentation will scare some and awe others.
Now lyrically, we all know the story, and backstory, and I'm now burning through his catalog prior to BL, and while not finding the work the calibur as BL, that would be an impossibility, for here it is. This album is the sum of E's life, musically, narratively, figuratively, and literally. This guy knows exactly where he is in his life and in his head, and says to us, "I am here." It took E seven years to get to the lyrics of the last song "Grandkids," and the small army of us who can relate to what E is sharing in that song, it's the best album-ending song ever. It's the song, the answer, the place he's been looking for for those seven years, he found it, and shared it with us. If you know the song, you know what I mean. And now the big question: know where Eels go from there? As a musician, where does one go after one finds his answer?
As for the "essential" satus, I will repeat: what has been done here muically is genius and lyrically is untouchable. The album excels beyond the circumstances and seven years' effort taken to create it.
Decent.......2006-06-26
I miss the swanky swing of Electro-shock blues, and the same with the raspy vocals.
I expected more from such a great band.

good side:beautiful masterpiece of a double album including 33 new tracks, lyric sheet, well placed musical interludes, lyrically at his best. uniquely well packaged

Album Description
Dr. Cornel West, one of America's most prominent black intellectuals, has teamed up with Hidden Beach Recordings to produce one of the most important and socially-conscious music projects to be released in 2007. On the heels of the Don Imus controversy, topical debates on the political and sociological effects regarding the use of the N Word and our country searching for answers to the question "Now What?" all are addressed in the context of this CD. This compelling body of work features Cornel West as a conductor who orchestrates a symphony of hip-hop and r&b recording artists and producers in the delivery of a resounding message that offers music as a positive force to effect change, awareness and solidarity.
Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations is a riveting, thought-compelling approach to raise the consciousness of the mainstream music consumer through a positive lyrical approach. It exemplifies a level of love, unity, solidarity, and loyalty designed to the give the world a force of good in the form of music, especially Black music, in these bleak times.

The cd is really, really great. I was so impressed with this young man that I purchased two of the same cd so I would'nt be caught anywhere without a copy. Thanks for the really great music and I can relate to what you are saying.
great cd.......2006-11-10
This cd was worth the money. The variety of music is great. There are velvety smooth slow jams and music that forces you out of your seat.
great musical artist.......2006-11-01
It's a shame that Urban Mystic is not advertised better. He needs to change record labels. He has a great voice but many people have not heard of him. His first ablum was off the tracks and the follow up is right behind it. Check him out.
Just AMZING!!.......2006-08-25
This cd is not at all what I thought it was going to be. It is actually better. He knows how to capture the attention of many women. The lyrics to most of the songs on the album are beautiful. He says all the things that a woman wishes that a man would say and mean it. Men take notes from this man!!! He knows what to say!!
Mystic has magic!.......2006-06-20
Without getting into a long rant here...but I can't help but to say it...
This Cat here can blow! I mean he really can sing. Not just a mediocre singer that sounds good with the benefit of a good melody.
No...this young brother can wobble.
1. Wobble;(waa-bul)Term used in Rythmn and Blues retro languages referencing to one who has a great singing flare.
His junior CD has really got good a retro-soulful appeal. This as we know, is something that is missing in our music today.
He can easily be compared to other vocalists, such as K-Ci Hailey, Anthony Hamilton and Jahiem. But his deep rich, unique raspy Southern-style vocals will definitely stand him above and beyond these mentioned counterparts.
Urban Mystic is truly magical! A must have classic...don't sleep!

Sounding like the confident, ambitious superstars they already are in their native UK, Muse follows up their breakthrough Absolution with an album that tempers its unabashed grandiosity and apocalyptic obsessions with a smart pop groove. Indeed, on the lilting "Soldier's Poem" vocalist/guitarist Matthew Bellamy cannily channels Freddie Mercury while "Assassin" pulses with the familiar metallic nerve and lyrical dread of Muse past. This limited edition set also features an hour-long bonus DVD that chronicles the trio's headlining Absolution tour set/de facto coronation at the Glastonbury Festival in 2004. Also features are four other live tracks recorded that same years in venues that range from London's massive Earls Court to a tiny Cincinnati club, performances that well chronicle the ambitious trio's ambitious musical ascent and recent past.
LIMITED EDITION: The added DVD features their headlining show at the Glastonbury festival. Artwork for the regular and limited edition was designed by Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd & Led Zeppelin).

If you already like Muse then you will naturally love this cd, if you don't know them then this is a good one to start out with. They are rock stars after all, so it was fun to see them in the DVD.
Another universe!.......2007-04-13
The best album of last year from the greatest band on the planet!
Need I say more?
I'll keep this short..........2007-02-27
I got the cd by itself for a gift...I bought this copy with the DVD because I absolutly HAD to see how the heck they get all that music out of just 3 guys. I am not usually into concert DVD's, but this one literally ROCKS!! If you are a Muse fan, this is a must have.
Is it worth it?.......2007-01-22
CD is awesome, and the DVD(Zone1) is just the Absolution Tour DVD, so if you have the DVD already, is it worth buying this one? If you collect all muse releases, then yes, it is worth it since its a limited edition...
On the CD, I hoped there'll be a track of Glorious(to make it different from original CD, but no... Its a copy/paste of Absolution DVD and a Copy/Paste of BH&R Audio-CD.

Amazing, but not what I was looking for.......2006-10-06
I bought this album to explore more tracks by Hildegard after listening to one of her songs on an anthology. This music crosses centuries, languages, and religions, I feel. I am not a Christian, and the reason I listen to Georgian Chant is to study, because it focuses my thoughts exponentially. It completely drowns out the noise of the world and helps to gather my ideas. This did not get 5 stars because it wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted to hear tracks with a mixed gender choir but this album only goes from single male/male choir to single female/female choir, on alternating tracks.
This is still an excellent study aid and should be recommended for use as much as pencils and pens.
Outstanding music and performances!.......2005-08-31
The music in this CD is simply outstanding! I was very surpised when I bought this CD and discovered that it surpasses many other more "colourful" recordings of Hildegard's music (regardless of the price.)
For those who are not interested in aesthetic, artistic or musical merit but who are simply looking for "relaxing" music for contemplation, meditation etc, I am very pleased to say that this is probably the most relaxing and peaceful music I've ever heard (and I've tried many.) Its healing effect on my mind and nervous system is almost instant and that in a very balanced and harmonious way.
Highly higly highly recommended.
Hildegard von Bingen: Heavenly Revelations ~ Hildegard of B.......2005-05-11
To the modern ear and mind Hildegard of Bingens sounds very different. There are no instruments and the vocals are sung in unison and not as seperate to vocals but united as one. This might sound simplistic and many would say that because she lacked formal training. This is based on feelings rather logic and one can sense that they are jelous of her natural ability to write music. The lyrics are amazing, the vocals are not as easy to sing as they sound and Hillegard of Bingen was and is still today an amazing composer and lyricist.
STERENCE SINGS FOR EUCHARIUS AND DISIBOD.......2004-01-26
It was a distressing surprise to find that my Oxford Companion to Music does not even contain an entry for Hildegard of Bingen. I had half-heard some broadcast discussion of her a few years back, but anything I know about her really comes from the liner notes with this disc, fortunately among the better specimens of their kind that I have encountered recently.
Hildegard was abbess of a distinctly upmarket Benedictine convent located near Bingen-am-Rhein in the early 12th century. She was clearly a formidable woman, being a seer and visionary consulted by Popes and potentates, a writer on scientific matters and a poet and composer as well. This disc contains 55 minutes or so of selections from her `Symphony of the Harmony of Divine Revelations', a collection of poems in her own highly individual and vigorous version of the Latin of the time, set to her own music. The music has a distant resemblance to the Gregorian chant, believed to have originated around the 8th century. It is all monody, though some of the numbers are accompanied by a sustained background note, originating exactly where and how I could not be sure. The music contains some flourishes that would have been out of place in the plainsong but which seem natural enough in the context of her spiritual-carnal imagery. This can be downright weird here and there. My recollection is still boggling at
Nunc sit laus Deo
In forma pulchre tonsure
Viriliter operante
`Now let there be praise to God in the form of a beautiful tonsure working in manly mode'.
There is an excerpt from her musical morality-drama the Ordo Virtutum, in which an assemblage of Virtues battle with the devil for control of a woman's soul, but most of the numbers are in praise of either the Trinity, the Blessed Virgin, or saints Eucharius and Disibod. I have not in my life so far encountered anyone named after these saints, but one of the admirable Oxford Camerata rejoices in the first name Sterence, so I suppose there may be some Eucharii and Disibods out there too. The words are given in full, with English translation, both absolute essentials as far as this music is concerned. The liner note is admirably honest in refusing to take a critical position regarding the real quality and worth of such unfamiliar stuff, and I propose to follow its example. I bought this disc for curiosity, for my own education and out of a general wish to support the production of out-of-the-way music. Rating it in the matters where I feel competent to rate it, I am happy to report that the singing is of the highest order of professionalism, exactly what one has come to expect from any Summerly production, and that the recording is admirable too.
delightfully pure.......2000-04-02
for someone interested in early music this is a good place to start- von bingen's visions speak to us across nine centuries.
liner notes are minimal, as is the case with most NAXOS titles, but lyrics in latin and english are provided, which is nice.
oxford camerata is amazing- many of the solo sections for female voice soar with great beauty. the choice of recording location (chapel of hertford college, oxford) adds a tiny bit of acoustic abience without being distracting.
how can you go wrong at the price?

Album Description
At the age of 19, Urban Mystic, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter/producer from Fort Lauderdale, FL, is in the midst of redefining contemporary R&B with the release of his debut album, Ghetto Revelations. Urban Mystic's name reflects the combination of luscious vocals and street flair present on his sultry tracks. He's poised to resurrect the rhythm that is undeniably absent from today's rhythm and blues.

What A Treasure.......2005-10-26
Man------ I am truly impressed with these new school kats with dat ole school vocal power. And I can't think of anybody, not even R. Kelly who could sing an explicit song like the F**k song and make it sound as innocent as he did with this song. And not everyone can do remakes but his take on the classic Bobby Womack, What A Woman's Needs fills any prescription. He does an exceptional job, while he changes one of the verse's delivery to add new flava to the song. There are many more tasteful musical tracks with delightful accompanying deep vocals on Mystic's debut. What is so errie, is the fact that many tracks are sexual in nature but have a sensual non-sexual appeal. Actually doesn't make it seem as dirty as it sounds. That may sound twisted but he has the ability to walk a fine line without turning your stomach. Really looking forward to his follow-up, but for now I am really enjoying this joint. I hope these Kat's Like Lyfe, Mystic, Anthony Hamilton and others will someday do a collabo. It would be nice to hear their vocals together. Expect to listen straight through. This is one of those joints with pure hotnessssssssss. Get This! No Disappointment! Peace......
DON'T SLEEP..........2005-05-25
Another hot CD from an unknown!!! Urban Mystic is in rare form on this one! Don't think because you haven't heard of him, he's not worth buying. You are sadly mistaken. He's not commercial though, so if that's what you like he's not for you. I'm all about seeking the talent that doesn't get the attention they so much deserve! You think there's not good music out here because the media only gives you the bubble gum, overcommercialized, watered down stuff. I challenge all to look for greatness...don't rely on radio and tv to deliver it! If you like Urban Mystic, you must check out Lyfe Jennings. He's another one of God's dark angels. ;)
Soulful - Love It!!.......2005-05-03
LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!!
Very original and soulful. Top two favorites are: A Womans Gotta Have It and F**K Song. Urban Mystic is nobody to be slept on!! As I began my PR firm, I look forward to promoting artists like Urban Mystic who don't get the exposure that they deserve.
WELCOME TO TRUE R&B SOUND.......2005-03-24
We just bought this cd last night after my husband saw Urban Mystiq on Soul Train and hey! this young brother put it down, he's a mixture of Calvin Richardson and Anthony Hamilton. I love his soulful, bluesy R&B sound, who are the A&R people that are supposed to let the public know about these great artists, right along with Joe, Calvin and Anthony, another brother not getting his props! We look forward to the next album.
old school music just got a new player.......2005-01-06
got this today and listened to it once so far and this is a great cd, the sound is great, has lots of soul and lots of great words , I'm not a big rap fan or not one at all really but this is not a rap record, it is full of great beats and full of kick ass songs which will live for a long time, this is as good or better than Anthony Hamilton who is also a great singer and these two singers are keeping me into soul music . I cant wait to play this again and it will be in my car for a long time to come, if you like soul music than you will like this cd,

Amazing music, amazing dance........2007-03-29
Ok. so they're spirituals. It's religious music. But I garauntee you'll be moving to the beat before you get "Wash My Soul". When you get to that song, you can't help but be up and moving. Compiled by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theare for their ballet "Revelations", this combines the best presentations of the music. And if you think the music is great, go see Alvin Ailey.
A Great, Rare Compilation.......2000-07-01
I really enjoy listening to this album. The vocal arrangements are top notch. The addition of African drums and electric bass to "Wade in the Water" and "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel" is inspiring. The contemporary gospel sounds of "You May Run On" and "Rocka My Soul" end the album on an energetic, positive note. Where this album really shines is in its honest and brilliant acapella arrangements. The only bad points are 1)that the fun ends to soon, and 2) the excrutiatingly long (but informative) interview with Judith Jamison at the end.
Otherworldly and electrifying.......1999-12-10
This CD is one of the most ecstatic experiences I've ever had with a work of art. Billy Porter in particular is magnificent.
Excellent interpretation of African American genre.......1999-11-06
I was very pleased and excited about this work. After seeing the dance company perform "Revelations", I found it powerful and cathardic. The music is now apart of my collection and I shall include it in the art of pedadogy. This work is very important to understanding the history of the African American progression in America with Negro Spirituals being parallel. Not enough can be said about this work.

Not so small revelations.......2007-04-12
I have been a Chris Smither fan for years. The more you listen the more you appreciate his lyrics and his special view of common life, in a not so common way.
Real blues, real bluesman, real fine music.......2000-12-28
Musically, there is a great distance between the "live" Smithers, rocking over the sweet guitar, stomping his feet and bellowing out lyrics and notes, and the produced, rich, full sounds on albums such as these. This is the one I play most on the radio, especially the "deeper" cuts in the middle of the album and, of course, "Small Revelations" itself; the others I listen to alone after a long day, immersing myself in the raw voice and stomp of the foot. Most folks like one or the other best, but I don't think one can choose -- it's almost as if he were two great musicians, not just one. So I recommend all of Smithers' work, from the oldest songs now covered by the likes of Bonnie Raitt to the newest sound on the other end of the "live" spectrum, like "Small revelations" -- but buy this one first if 1) you need an introduction to his work (and then get a live session album, too), or 2) if you need an album to introduce your friends to Smithers. Then find them copies of "I Feel the same," "It ain't easy," and "Real Fine Love," the best Smithers' songs anywhere, both live and produced.
BTW, on my personal copy of this, my father, who introduced me to Chris' earlier work while I was still prenatal, had Chris sign "To Joshua, who has a cool dad." Thanks, Dad.
Chris Smither's best !.......1999-11-09
I agree with the person before me, who said this is chris's best. Mostly original songs, these are his finest. Buy this first, then 'Drive you home', then 'Another way to find you', then 'Up on the lowdown'. Chris is a master guitarist and songwriter.....
Excellent Smither!.......1999-04-28
I still believe this is Chris's best. His versatility and song writing capability really shine through on this one..."Small Revelations" most of all.
