CD Slayer, Decade of Agression.......2006-11-30
Slayer's music is unique. It's sad. No group plays music with such deep meaningful lyrics with music full of talent. I think the selection of livier songs on DECADE is weak. Only two songs from SEASONS is not on the discs. I think extra selections from SHOW NO, SOUTH OF,or REIGN should have been chosen instead. WAR EMSEMBLE, SOUTH OF HEAVEN, JESUS SAVES, EXPENDABLE YOUTH, are not wise choices. EPIDEMIC, AGGRESSIVVE PERFECTOR, TORMENTOR, CRIONIES, CROOKED CROSS, or SPILL THE BLOOD, are only some of our favorites not on the discs.
The mother of all thrash live albums.......2006-08-16
If you're looking for a live album to top all live albums by a thrash metal band, look no further than Slayer's 'Decade of Aggression'. This one floored me on the first listen, and I rank it among the best (if not THE best) live albums by any thrash metal band. Loud, clear, and in-your-face musical brutality and technical virtuosity by one of the best bands in the business. So go ahead and pick this baby up with confidence, crank it at home, crank it in the car! and just ENJOY!. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Long Live Slayer!
Classic old-school Slayer........2006-08-15
This was actually the first Slayer album I bought. Up until that point I was mainly into slower stuff - things with a heavy groove, stuff with breakdowns, really tight rhythm sections, etc.
Slayer was and is a whole different ball game than that. Since that time I've gotten into heavier and heavier music [while at the same time stretching further into the world of jazz (I'm a sax player by trade, as well as a bass player). However, every time I crank this album up, I get this feeling like "Man, what have I been listening to the past couple weeks?! Emperor?! Killswitch Engage?!"
Emperor and KsE are two excellent bands [especially Emperor's final album; it was an absolute masterpiece], but you can hear Slayer in both bands [and every other modern metal band on the planet].
It's always amusing for me to note one thing. I've heard bands try to cover Slayer tunes live (usually Raining Blood or Angel Of Death, etc), and they just sound terrible. Not necessarily for lack of technical ability on the part of the bands, but for the vocals. I've heard vocalists try to do a hardcore or death metal interpretation of Tom's vox, and it just doesn't fit. There's a certain thing about his yell (you can't usually call it a scream, exactly...); it makes him more ominous-sounding, more believable half the time, than most metal vocalists to come after him.
If you've never heard much Slayer, I would tell you to get this album, along with Seasons In The Abyss and the new cd, Christ Illusions.

This album is amaZing, great song selection awesome playing, great vox. Truly total live brutality packed into 2 discs.

After Captor of Sin (recorded live in Belgum) and Live Undead, Slayer nailed what is probably the best live recording in metal history. This is easily comparable to Iron Maiden's, Live After Death. I saw them twice for this tour and Decade captures every ounce of energy from the crowd while allowing each instrument to stand out. It's as close as you can get to being there. I've mentioned this album in the company of Cheap Trick's, Live at Budokan, The Band's, Last Waltz album and even Simon and Garfunkel's, Concert in Central Park. As a music lover and a live show junkie, I give this album all the credit in the world; not to mention this is easily the greatest collection of Slayer songs ever compiled. This is a perfect start for a new fan.

Disc One was recorded live at Lakeland Coliseum, Lakeland, Florida on July 13, 1991. I prefer Slayer in the recording studio instead of live when making an album. This live album though is tight. My favorite heavy metal songs on this album are "South of Heaven", "Dead Skin Mask" and the best, "Raining Blood." Kerry King is great. Watch them in real life though, it's better!
Essential Slayer.......2003-04-18
This 2-CD set contains all of Slayer's classic songs, i.e. up to Seasons, performed live. Normally, live albums are inferior, but this is a truly monumental collection of live tunes. First, it is classic Slayer. Second, the aggression and speed of Slayer is amplified by the live settings. Quality loss due to the live performance is minimal. There is practically no in between song banter, just straight metal. This is an essential part of any Slayer fan's collection. Buy it immediately.
