Sharing Blink 182's prepubescent charm and Pennywise's atomic power chords, the former pizza delivery boys who go by the name of Riddlin' Kids have practically stumbled onto a gold mine. It helps that venom-spewing songs such as "Crazy" and "I Feel Fine" come replete with torrential riffs and blinding choruses along the lines of "She knocked me on my ass again, but I don't mind/ Looks like I'm alone again and I feel fine." Any self-respecting teen could get with that. Produced by Paul Ebersold (3 Doors Down) at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Hurry Up and Wait proves that no matter how hectic things get, there's always room for one more on the short bus. --Aidin Vaziri

5 out of 5 stars awesom album.......2006-04-09

i usually am not into the whole po-punk thing but this band is actually extremely good i found myself memorizing every song in less than a week if u like good music this is a must have

5 out of 5 stars Andy Milanakis.......2005-08-03

Fast music, fast lyrics. Sound like Slick Shoes with a mix of Spitalfield and Hawthorne Heights. The guy is not the best singer, but it doesn't really matter much. Everything else can be a cover up. This is mostly happy emo. Need more stuff like this.

4 out of 5 stars Atomic pop-punk from down south .......2005-01-23

I used to think the only thing "punk" coming outta Texas was Bowling for Soup...Until, of course, I bought "hurry up and wait". It's a pretty awesome debut, If I do say so myself, and it doesn't mind being actually more pop than punk (which is always good in an age where being "real punk" is more important to some than life itself). The guitar work is cool, but nothing outstanding, and the music is pretty catchy too. At first, the songs didn't really stick, but after a while, they grew on me like crazy, and HUAW practically never left my CD player. However, not everything is great about HUAW. Some of the songs have less than steller chorus', and the vocalist is a bit too low pitched for my tastes. But then again, those are all just MY opinion and have no real reflection on the CD itself. So take my advice, if you like Bowling for soup or other talented pop-punk acts, you'll enjoy Riddlin' Kids.

4 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2005-01-12

this is an awesome cd, riddlin kids have definately made their mark in the punk world. this cd is incredible and even though their other cds (any day now and why are you buying this?) were good as well, this one was a major breakthrough for them. they have awesome sound and amazing talent, in other words THEY ROCK!!

1 out of 5 stars Another faux-punk band..........2004-12-04

Another faux-punk band. One good song (I Feel Fine) and a weak cover of REM's `End of the World'. Great cartoon cover of a girl kicking a boy in the nuts.

5 out of 5 stars The Stylistics' three inexplicably underexposed PIR albums........2007-01-29

This 2-CD set includes three albums which The Stylistics recorded for Philadelphia International Records from 1980-83. The group was desperately in need of a career revival back then and such PIR stalwarts as Thom Bell, Dexter Wansel, Cynthia Biggs, Sherman Marshall and even Gamble & Huff themselves gave the group some great songs--but commercial success was (sadly) not in the cards. This IS, however, great music which is eminently enjoyable and highly recommended to all Soul fans.

4 out of 5 stars Overlooked philly-gems.......2006-07-24

As it says in the booklet of this three(!)-disc compilation these three late 70 / early 80 records from The Stylistics are some of the most overlooked releases in all of the philly-soul catalogue.

The sound found here is your typical late 70:ies slick and groovy soul (at times flirting with disco). What makes this record so interesting is that the material is not at all as cliché as other albums from this period can be, the songwriting comes of as fresh and creative and contain a lot of tracks that really have a unique feeling to them.

If you're a fan of phillysoul or just late 70:ies soul than this compilation should not make you dissapointed. Personal favourites include "Call on you" and "It started out".

Given the two belated live-action sequels and numerous other TV and video spinoffs spawned by Disney's charming 1961 animated original, the Dalmatian count is more like 1,001 by now. This reissued soundtrack (admirably restored in the late '90s by producer Randy Thornton) showcases the original orchestral film cues of George Bruns to good effect. While the composer's bright, lively work was largely fragmentary (originally written as punctuation for the film's turns of action and comedy), its components have been skillfully sequenced and gently edited here for a more cohesive listening experience. The film's most memorable musical moments remain Mel Levin's delightful trio of songs, "Kanine Krunchies," "Dalmatian Plantation," and, of course, the classic villainess romp "Cruella DeVil." Bonus cuts include both a bluesy piano rendition and Levin's decidedly goofy piano/vocal demo of the latter tune. A great primer to Disney's animation underscore philosophy, seasoned with one of the studio's most memorable songs. --Jerry McCulley

2 out of 5 stars The music ain't loud enough.......2007-01-21

I was out looking for a new sound on a rainy day at my local music shop and really decided to pick this album up because it was fairly new, underground, and honestly the green cover was catchy and I grabbed it.
To much of my dismay, the album didn't do much for me. I have been listening to it through quite a few times and haven't really felt satisfied. The beats I won't lie are very catchy and fun. The emcee just doesn't fit; his sound is the same on every track and his views upon life are out of whack. He tries to be an R&B singer but miserably fails. The chores are annoying as well.
Being negative on music is not really my thing, but this CD was a flop in my book.

3 out of 5 stars Clever, but can also be dumb.......2005-05-20

I came across this album while browsing through the iTunes shop. I listened to it a few times, and then, after buying the excellent Platinum Pied Pipers album I got an itch to hear Hurry Up & Wait because it seem to fit the same sonic landscape. I enjoyed it on the first listen. The great samples, the classic rhyme style, the clever word flips and melodies. Very Blackalicious. But as I went about my business during a second listen I kept getting pulled up by some of the lyrics. For all his talent, Hezekiah's views on women and homosexuals are questionable. And no, I will not dismiss that as the "nature of hip hop". I love underground hip hop because it usually gets to the heart of issues that do not involve big booties and getting cash. I know I might come off like a prude here, but racism is unacceptable in our society. It's time that homophobia and misogyny head out the same back door, and that means eradicating it from our music as well. That said, this cat is talented and I hope he can make it to a second album minus the immaturity.

5 out of 5 stars What More Can I Say?.......2005-04-27

HOT HOT HOT!!!! The lyrics are on fire and the artist shines througout the entire album. The beats are fierce and it is in heavy rotation in my iPod right now. Thanks Hezekiah for such great work!

Peace

5 out of 5 stars the sleeper album of 2006..........2006-06-25

the cardinal sin, (formerly known as cadillac blindside) have released the official sleeper album of 2006. meaning that the album and band are suprisingly under the radar for making a stellar record. last year, emanuel's "soundtrack to a headrush" was the record that i thought didn't get any recognition for how great it was. "hurry up and wait" is too a stellar record with deserving listens.

there was some hype surrounding the band at the beginning of the year (one of Ap's 100 bands you need to know) but surprisingly the album hasn't gotten any recognition it deserves. yes, the comparisons to alkaline trio are evident but the cardinal sin are so much more. alkaline trio are one of my favorite bands but sometimes their morbid, immature lyrics can be to much. with the cardinal sin, the music is similiar in the dark, moody, angular guitars, catchiness aspect to the alkaline trio. the lyrics for the most part are straightforward, mature, and relatable which makes them stand apart from the trio.

the music itself seems a little darker than the alkaline trio (listen to the last track "hell of a saint") and has a more raw sound that gives the album a fresh take on dark punk without seeming overly-depressing.

if you dig bands like the alkaline trio, the lawrence arms, bayside, the smoking popes, and hey mercedes; you definitely will enjoy this album. the year's not over yet, and i can't find one reason why this album shouldn't be on the top 10 list of the year for everyone. if more people knew about them, i'm sure they would be.

"hurry up and wait" is dark, moody punk rock at it's best and is an album i can see myself liking for a long time. i highly recommend this album...

    Album Description

"Hurry Up!...& Wait" is a raw yet refined display of Stinkaholics' coming of age. Being their fourth full length, this album reflects their eight year evolution. From their roots comes a variety of songs, with empahsis on PopSkaPunk, melodic punk, metal & rock. Although their influences (Operation Ivy, Primus, Tool, Mr Bungle, Faith No More & David Bowie) are prevelant, the music is still authentic and true to Stinkaholics' own style. With the addition of Steve on drums, the band has been able to achieve a sound that is tight, creative, energetic, emotional, and best of all, enjoyable. All this together makes for a great listening experience.

    5 out of 5 stars Damn.......2002-09-22

This CD is beyond awesome. It hurts when you hear some of the other "Punk" bands who have made it big, then you hear a CD like this and realize that you're 1 of maybe 100 who actually own it. These guys are awesome live, but this CD really ... blew me away. You can hear with songs like "Hello" and "You and Everything" that they do have the potential to end up on more popular radio stations. Although, "Feel The Pain" was the song of the CD that Doughmain decided to promote. It's a great heavy song, but not exactly radio friendly. All the songs on here are awesome, that's all I can say. Go out and buy it today!

2 out of 5 stars The material is too weak.......2003-03-06

Joe Lynn Turner did a good job as the vocalist in Rainbow, but on his own, without Blackmore as a co-writer, things aren't as great. Turner has a good voice that he use properly on his latest project with Glenn Hughes and also on his two albums of covers ("under cover" I & II).

I don't why, but on this album ("Hurry up and wait") as well as on "Nothing changed" something is wrong. The material isn't that good and maybe that has something to do with the fact that Turner's voice isn't as great we know it can be. It's impossible for me to rate this effort any higher than 2 stars To bring out the best of Mr. Turner, a good songwriter is needed. But things ain't all bad, there are in fact a couple of songs that are quite alright.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2000-01-10

A legendary rock vocalist returned in 1998 with an impressive set of bluesy, soulful hard rock. This album will appeal to fans of AOR,especially Deep Purple,Rainbow,Malmsteen,Bad Company,Foreigner, etc.

3 out of 5 stars Music to remember the 80s when you were much happier by..........1999-12-11

I bought the first Land of the Loops CD a few years ago solely on hearing that "Multi-Family Garage Sale" song. I think there must be hidden lyrics in it that tells your sub-conscience to swivel your head back and forth for no apparent reason. That has got to be what all that "Na-na-na-na-ni-ni-ni-ninny-ninny" stuff in the song tells you to do, because that's all I did for like weeks on end after hearing it. It wasn't actually too bad a thing, aside from the headaches, severe mood swings, and horrified glares from co-workers, I was able to build up the muscles in my neck enough to crack walnuts with it. I love walnuts. Anyway, I digress. I was strolling through the aisles the other day and saw the Loops' new CD single. After some assistance from a store clerk (I needed help centering myself to subdue the swivel-lapse) I purchased the thing. I'm happy to report that I have felt no side effects as of yet while listening to this CD. "Fresh Pond Parkway" may be the best song that Alan Sutherland has created. I drive along the actual Fresh Pond Parkway weekly and even though there is nothing about the song that reminds me of the actual Fresh Pond Parkway, I still like it because I like the fact that I drive along the actual Fresh Pond Parkway weekly and there is a song title of the same the name on a CD. The vocals and overall feel of song is very reminiscent of The Waitresses from way back in the 1980s. It made me long for "Square Pegs." I give the thing only three stars because it's just a CD single; it's not going to change the world. Make a new record with 10 songs as good as "Fresh Pond Parkway" and that doesn't induce violent body movements then will see about more stars.

5 out of 5 stars It's so great, so mellow, and so strange.......1999-12-05

Before I bought "Hurry up and Wait", I had bought and listened to Bundle of Joy, and loved it. Land of the Loops (Alan Sutherland) puts me in such a starnge and inquisitive mood. It's not even music you can even dance to anything (although some of it is), but It is just so mellow and original. Anyway, it's great, especially Fresh Pond Parkway. And did you know that "Hurry up and Wait" is also the name of a Lagwagon song, yeah, it's on "Let's talk about feelings." Check that out too. Nooch.

4 out of 5 stars Trippy, loopy, and too short.......1999-11-10

Good background music, it's got a mellow groove tone and doesn't push you to pay too much attention to the music. I put this on auto-repeat and sat with a friend talking for several hours and it fit in really well.
