5 out of 5 stars Everything you need from the milkmen.......2005-11-20

When the Dead Milkmen first released this album i thought that it wasn't going to capture all of the work they've done over their illustrious career. I was wrong, being a huge DM fan for a long time i knew what their best songs were and what should be on this album. I saw the track listing online a while ago and said, "wow, this is all their best songs on one cd, it looks like someone finnaly made a great greatest hits album!" and it's true, if you wanna get into the DM, get this one.

5 out of 5 stars I'm so much cooler than you.......2005-08-09

Dead Milkmen were my "I'm cooler than you because I like this band" group I chose in high school. The only song I had ever heard by the band was "punk rock girl", but I said your typical hard core fan stuff like how much I liked their earlier stuff and compared them to other bands like Frankie's Weiner that no one else had heard of. Did you have to know what you were talking about? NO, of course not. It's all about image. I formed several bands in high school that never played a show. I would put up flyers all around the school and cancel the shows the day they were supposed to go off. I would tell people the club didn't meet fire code. Girls would ask if they could sleep with me to cheer me up. There was a six month period where I fronted nine fake bands that never picked up an instrument, but I had a rock star following. That is why I'm where I am and you are where you are.

5 out of 5 stars coolest cd ever.......2005-06-20

This is a great cd by the Dead Milkmen. it has a great variety of music- compare "tiny town" to "instant club hit". It starts off pretty straightforward and gets really weird after the 8th or 9th song but it's still a great album that I can listen to all day and be amused every time.
Not only does it have great music, it's really funny. get it today. best songs- bitchin camaro, the thing that only eats hippies.

5 out of 5 stars Sentimental 5 star album.......2002-03-19

I was a Milkmen fan since Big Lizard came out...blah, blah, blah (but, its true). Anyways, I picked this CD up as a quick fix for my collection as my few remaining Milkmen albums typically are on tape. Sadly, most of these tapes were also either played to death by myself or stolen/farmed out to (former)friends. This CD covers most of the highlights of their career with the exception of "those 2 albums" mentioned in the other reviews.

The milkmen are wonderfully snotty and gleefully offensive and very funny in a smarter than it first sounds sort of way. Its pointless to figure out if they are thumbing their milky noses at the subjects of their songs or the (sometimes stilted) conventions of punk music itself; it is often both and that is a good and "nutritionally" healthy thing. There were a few songs that I missed not hearing on this album such as "Gorilla Girl," "Brat in the Frat," and "Beige Sunshine" just to name a few and this almost forced me to end the streak of perfect reviews. I just can't do it.

If you've never heard the Milkmen, prepare yourself for a musical awakening. ONCE PROPERLY AWAKENED, go out and buy Big Lizard in my Back Yard, Beezlebubba (my personal favorite), and Metaphysical Graffitti; these three albums flesh out most of the Milkmen's career as well as provide the majority of the tracks on this CD.

A final warning if you buy this CD: keep it under close eye when your "friends" come to visit, you may end up losing both.

4 out of 5 stars Good for beginners.......2000-10-13

If you are interested in the Milkmen, but have no idea where to begin, this is the album for you. It includes songs from many of their albums, allowing the listener a taste of each development in the band's style. There is a notable era missing from this collection, that of the infamous out-of-print albums (infamous not because they are poor quality, but because the alternate label those particular albums were on quit making more copies AND they refused to relinquish the rights to the songs... what kind of nonsense is that??). Anyway, this collection will help a listener decide which albums to seek according to his or her taste. So buy it! And if you get hooked and buy them all, pass this one on. Spread it around.

4 out of 5 stars Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

5 out of 5 stars The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent debut & their best effort to date.......2007-02-10

I have only heard 3 of Vade's albums, and this one is without a doubt the best of the 3. It is also the first one I heard. The other 2 I heard are The Beast and De Profundis. The Beast sounds a bit like Morbid Angel on their Domination album only faster. But The Ultimate Incantation is definetely Pure Vader. I think that most bands only make one album that is really really good, and they either do it with their debut or some time down the track when they gain experience, but Vader had all the experience when they released their debut, and they had more energy and imagination aswell. This is one of those classic death metal albums that you have to have in your collection if you're a fan of 90's death metal that is. Most of the death metal released in the 90's was superb, but there was probably only one album from each band that stood out for particular listeners. I have always liked a band's debut more than later efforts except for a few bands that actually got better with time like Sinister with their Hate album which is in my opinion their best release and Morbid Angel's Domination, but then Morbid Angel also did very well on their debut Alters Of Madness aswell, though they grew into a larger beast later with Domination. It's just like how Metallica's debut Kill Em All is their most liked, but so is the black album, but I also like Ride The Lightning aswell, maybe even more. It's just personal taste really. But it does also have a lot to do with how much effort was put into the album, and Vader's The Ultimate Incantation seems to me that Vader put a lot more effort and energy into than the the other 3 albums I've heard. I suspect that they have not and will not ever release a cd as powerful, as imaginative, as atmospheric or as epic as The Ultimate Incantation.
The production is typically early 90's with a low treble sound and much of that blocked sound that sounds like you're listening to it from inside a closed box while the stereo is outside the box. Well, I happen to like this sound very much and admire all early 90's death metal that have this sound incorporated into their production. Some bands had too much treble, but that is the other side of the scale. Really when it comes down to the core it doesn't really matter about production as much as the skill of the band, and Vader have the skills to make some of the most exhilerating death metal ever produced.
When I listen to this album I feel like I'm being taken on a journey much like a movie. I can't explain in words what the journey looks like in my head, but it is like the ultimate movie that can change with every listen but also comes back to the original feelings I get when I listen to it.
Every track on this album is 5 stars. I never skip a track, especially because skipping tracks in this album defeats the purpose of the story telling, it's like an epic tale being told and you must not miss out on a chapter or the rest will not make as much sence.
This is one of the deepest and most image provoking albums of all time. Get it, and then prepare to journey through Vader's astonishing worlds of chaos, reincarnation, sorcery, death, a state of mind unimagined.

This is the only album that has the power to take your mind and thoughts to another world that is like the hell that we death metal fans dream of as our home.

If you don't have this cd and you are a death metal fan, I feel sorry for you, because you my friend are missing out on The Ultimate Incantation.

4 out of 5 stars Original? No. Good? Yes........2005-03-07

Vader may not be the most original band on the planet, but they're so good at this style that they can get away with it. There is certainly more brutal death metal out there. In fact, this album is actually quite catchy! This is part of what makes Vader so effective. This album is clearly crafted with honesty as opposed to an attempt at sounding as "extreme" and "brutal" as possible.
Comparisons with Morbid Angel are obvious and this album shares many similarities with "Covenant". Saying that should be enough to tell you whether or not you will like this.

4 out of 5 stars top notch death metal.......2002-11-27

Vader's debut album is so mature, well produced and full of headbangable riffs straight from the Morbid Angel playbook, that one is inclined to wonder why it is not considered among the greatest debut releases in metal history. This is 100% percent death metal in every sense of the word... relentless blasts, meatgrinder vocals ala David Vincent, wailing leads and riffs that will make you wanna ... slap your own momma. This is the CD Morbid should of made after Covenant.

3 out of 5 stars a good start...........2000-08-08

Poland export and death/thrash masters, Vader, come up (for the most part) aces on this their debut disc. If you are a death metal fan, then this review may seem trivial as this cd was released in late '92/early '93 I believe, but for those who have not been aquainted with the vicious deathersters, then read on.

Vader pretty much stick to the tried and true death metal formula; insane death vocals (NOT like Cannibal Corpse or Suffocation, but more in the Napalm Death/Morbid Angel vein), whirlwind, totally blistering riffing and absolutely murderous drumming, particularly the vicious double bass drum pounding; enough so to cause an earthquake of biblical proportions. The disc also has a clear, loud production...maybe a little TOO clear, as the riffs are a bit too polished for my tastes.

As far as musical style goes, Vader are obviously big fans of Morbid Angel, as some the Morbid Ones influence can be heard clearly throughout the disc, and the fact that some of the songs rely too much on the speed factor and kind of go by without any real effect. That said though, "Reign Carrion" "Final Massacre" and "Vicious Circle" do enough damage and are memorable enough to give Vader their due as a force to be reckoned with.

The later work, the brutally ingenious "De Profundis", the awesome and total whirlwind mini-cd "Sothis", the slighty disappointing, but still good "Black to the Blind" and their latest "litany", all have shown the growth and maturity that Vader have displayed on their debut, so if you haven't gotten "The Ultimate Incantation" yet, it's high time that you did.

3 out of 5 stars the first steps taken..........2000-07-22

Poland death metal experts Vader, release their auspicious debut cd. A mix of various bands' styles, most notably Morbid Angel, Vader practically reduce your audio system to a pile of dust with a vicious, barbaric and unrelenting aural assault. Swirling, million mile an hour riffs, insane vocal howling and my God, enough double bass drum pounding to cause an earthquake of biblical proportions. These guys are just the perfect antidote for that neighbor you dislike. :)

Being a debut record, Vader do fall into many traps; songs that are just faceless and have no identity ("Testimony" "Demons Wind"), a production that is just a bit too polished for death metal, and having their influences come across a little too apparent (Vader are obviously card carrying members of Morbid Angel's fan club). And how many "winds of hell, the coming of doom" intros can you stand? If your answer is "there are never enough intros!", then add another intro to your collection.

With that said though, Vader's "Ultimate Incantation" is an effectively formidible death metal disc, and a band with obvious talent and above average musical skills. "Reign Carrion", for my money, is the best track on the disc, serving up equal helpings of doom, thrash and death with plenty of identity and intricate moments. "Breath of Centuries" and the crushing "Final Massacre" are also stand outs.

Vader's follow up releases (the brutally ingenious "De Profundis", the hard to find, incredibly awesome mini cd "Sothis", the slightly disappointing, but still good "Black To The Blind" and the just released "Litany") have cemented their postion as one of Death Metal's premier band and are MANDATORY purchases for the dedicated fan. Their debut cd, while not perfect, shows the band in its formidable growth stages and is a worthy purchase for any rabid death metaller. 3 and a half stars is a better indicator.

4 out of 5 stars Shatter Your Skull Like Glass.......2006-11-16

Oh Yeah!!!This is what happens when you play too much Dungeons and Dragons and mom buys you a guitar to encourage you to "make some new friends". This is what happens when Mastodon meets Slayer and gets regurgitated on a harcover copy of Finch's Mythology. This is what happens when an amp is pushed so far that the knobs melt into smoking blobs of stinking black tar, and it's oscillating waves of distortion create a huge shockwave blowing down houses in a 1/2-mile radius, bursting the eardrums and liquefying the internal organs of all hapless onlookers. The heaviest, most abrasive, and most FUN metal album I've heard in years. + 4 flaming broadsword not included.....

4 out of 5 stars Speed Metal "Clash of the Titans".......2006-09-06

This album is pretty cool. Upon quick listens, it's immediately obvious there are riffs gallore straight from the book of Slayer... the harshness also calls to mind early Helmet, Celtic Frost and even a bit of the Cro-Mags on some songs.

The Greek Mythology themes prevalent in lyrical content might add or subtract fans; it's hard to say. I hope Mastadon's success with a novel adaptation doesn't spark a goofy trend in literature-thrash-metal epic albums. Regardless, this band is so gosh-darn brutal they could be transposing Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie and it wouldn't matter. The end result is still a Bulldozer in a China Shop.

Lastly the album sports some VERY cool artwork too, which is always a plus in my book.

5 out of 5 stars Cult Of The Wolf!!!.......2006-05-10

If your into MASTODON, HIGH ON FIRE, SLAYER, CELTIC FROST or any heavy bands that go all out and are just heavy as shiz you need to hear LOTM cuz they are just as heavy and good as any of em'... these guys are straight up just a Heavy Metal band, and I do mean HEEEEEEVVVVVVYYYYYY!! No gimmicks, no BS, just a bad ass band... support the underground! Cult of The Wolf Baby!!

5 out of 5 stars A Killer Band That You Shouldn't Pass Up........2006-03-08

The album description up there pretty much says it all. You got a ripping band here, shredding it all up in the style of old Sodom, and early Destruction. The vocalist, Terror, sounds exactly like Angleripper from Sodom, with a nice splash of Cronos from Venom thrown in. The guitars are real heavy and evil sounding. And don't forget, we got James Murphy here, legendary guitarist from Death, Obituary, Cancer, and more, mastering the CD, so you know it sounds killer. All Deathwitch CD's on Amazon are all five star ratings. I Haven't heard a Deathwitch CD that didn't kick all to hell. Check my reviews for the other Deathwitch CD's on here. Enjoy these guys because you don't find many bands that have an old school black death sound like this, sounding original and not ripping anyone off.

4 out of 5 stars Killer limbo album.......2004-04-01

Probobly the most brutal work from these norwigen masters of symphonic black metal, fast paced, raw, very very evil. Damons vocals are better than ever. Not many guitar solos tho :[ some of the best songs limbo has ever written \m/

    5 out of 5 stars Interstellar Hatred.......2003-11-28

Limbonic Art is the closest you can get to the beyond without actually killing yorself - although it is certainly what every dedicated death worshipper should do... "In the deep pitch black halls of darkness, the cruel high-council of evil demands self destruction"...
Only then can the journey Limbonic Art intended for us, begin. It's all about letting go. And being a misanthropic necromancer, of course.
Some of us actually feel this way.

4 out of 5 stars Its a good production but its too short to my likes........2003-09-12

First of all I would say this is a great production. The reason is because now guitars sound more clear, scary, haunting, very hard and heavy. Also, the symphonic part its there but it is less than before. Another thing that sparks in this production that there is horror in and is definatively scary. Now the bad side of this production is that its too short. That is the reason that made me give this album a 4 star rating. The other albums like The Ahhorrence Dementia and Ad Noctum Dynasty of Death were full of music to fullfill my tastes why couldn't this one be like those. This album only has 6 songs of music and the other two are just horror themes but are still great. I really recomend this album to any black metal friek like I say its a good production so you won't be dissapointed.

3 out of 5 stars Mechanical production and in many ways a repetition.......2003-01-25

Three years have gone with the wind since Limbonic Art issued their last full-length album, "Ad Noctum - Dinasty of Death", many listeners were disappointed with that particular album in what concerns the unearth of Black Metal's vital elements, the raw sounding guitars and most of all the ravelling insanity of the entire piece which left aside the (until that moment) prominent use of the keyboard passages; others, on the contrary, instantly acclaimed the aforementioned album as the best in this duo much hailed career...
In some aspects I feel inclined to report that "The Ultimate Death Worship" might be grasped, in certain moments, as a repetition of proves already firmly given by the band on previous albums. I'm sure many purists might not agree with me on this particular observation, but what's done is done, and art has no boundaries I believe. Even the cover layout/artwork tends to repeat itself or at least fall into a slightest over-explored territory; it sure was innovative during "Moon in the Scorpio" or "In Abhorrence Dementia"-era, but nowadays I feel it doesn't actually provoke any visual or esthetical sensation at all. Though, competency and the adequate musical craftsmanship is something Limbonic Art don't miss, their dependence upon the characteristic swirling keyboards is something any cautious Black Metal listener can easily recognise (I would even go deeper stating that this is the element which brought Limbonic Art to the forefront and pushed them to another level, their extra dimension, the place where they stand now). Morfeus surely knows how to explore the atmospheric side of the music which is, as I've mentioned, still the main focus of the song-structures along with the astonishing guitar riffs which blend together to form an ultra harmonic accompaniment, or if you prefer the contra-face to Daemon's ferocious and much emphasised vocal shrieks.
For me the mechanical production is straightway the main down-point here. Too stereotypical, flat, and the overall sound is not very clear (read: the instruments well-defined on the mix), and this factor considerably ruins the most audible part of the record, it seems you're just hit by a massive wave of distortion, fuzz and undefined wind, keyboards, voices, etc. In a way, the essence of the music is lost for not being sufficiently polished and the grim beauty is also lost among the trembling guitar patterns and low-drum echoes; however, if you've enjoyed "Ad Noctum - Dinasty of Death" specially for this reason, it won't be a reason to complain about.
Ultimately, "The Ultimate Death Worship" will not exactly redefine the modus operandi for Black Metal, as perhaps the first two Limbonic Art records did, still they once again done a smash up job replete with some talented guitar work and perhaps sufficiently convincing for the great majority of Black Metal listeners.

5 out of 5 stars Daemonic Due Kill Again!.......2002-10-04

Limbonic Art return with yet another unique collection of Horror and MeTal. For those of you unfamiliar with the duo, I will say that after over 20 years of listening to REAL MeTal, Limbonic Art has become my favourite band. They combine the cold speed and classical themes of Black MeTal with often-subtle orchestration and frequently prominent.......but never to the point of sounding [bad]........touches of electronica. Believe me, if an "old" MeTalhead like myself can accept it, so can YOU, no matter how "necro" you are. Because, indeed, the normally sick vocals of Daemon are topped on this album; he howls, moans, screams, shrieks.....but always with pointed discipline. He spits out anathemas against hated humankind, and shrieks--very convincingly--all the pains of the damned.
Longtime fans will note the vastly improved guitar sound on this album....it has become very thick and crunchy, and the orchestrations take a definite backseat to the guitars. There are a few INCREDIBLY creepy passages on here, and perhaps Limbonic Art's crowning song(out of MANY great ones): "Towards the Oblivion of Dreams" is also found on this new album.
The songs are everything we've come to expect from Limbonic Art(which often includes the unexpected), but the artwork(as always, done by band-member Morfeus)seems a bit less extravagant.......hmmmmmm. But a cover does not an album make, and this cover just PALES in comparison to the music within. Essential for anyone that misses the exciting strangeness and genuine MeTal "futurism" of earlier Emperor.......before they(HE, actually)got too snooty to remember the TRUE spirit of MeTal! And by "He", I sure don't mean Samoth!
You should REALLY buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Double Release.......2005-10-12

I'm new to Gorefest, but I quickly grabbed up all these catalogue re-releases. False/Erase features, in my opinion, 2 of gorefests best albums, with tons of extras (demo and live tracks). False is a solid, brutal death metal release. Erase follows as a slightly more mature, but still crushing release. If you're new to this band as I was, I'd say pick this up before any others.

      AWESOME!
