Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Mamma Mia.......2007-03-22
I have not stopped playing this cd. It is just great! It makes any trip in my car most enjoyable Happy I bought it!
Mamma Mia Musical CD.......2007-03-21
This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!
JUST GREAT MUSIC.......2007-03-08
I RECENTLY SAW THE SHOW MAMMA MIA IN LAS VEGAS. ALWAYS LIKES THE MUSIC OF ABBA, AND THOUGH THE PLOT WAS THIN, THE MUSIC WAS WELL PERFORMED. IN THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, THE ENGLISH ACCENTS WERE A BIT MUCH, BUT THE SONGS WERE GREAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ABBA.
Mamma Mia.......2007-01-29
Every time I hear the music and songs it brings back memories of seeing the Broadway Show
Not good at all.......2007-01-09
This is not what we wanted. The British accents throw it was off. We just saw it in NY and this is not what we were looking for.

Great Songs..........2007-07-18
A moving tribute to our need to WAKE UP and change... Whatever that needs to be changed ouside needs first to be changed from the inside...
Not definitive: Selling Melissa short.......2007-07-08
Melissa Etheridge is, simply stated, one of the most important female artists of the last two decades. She not only made it as a woman rocking on her own terms, she also put her sexuality on the line and then made her personal battle with cancer into a public crusade. These qualities frame her as a person and are important markers of her integrity.
But more importantly, she has made some brilliant music with at least two five star albums. Both the debut and her breakthrough, "Yes I Am," are must-own records. Naturally, they are the two CD's from which the lion's share of "The Road Less Traveled" is culled; six of the 18 songs here. Add the six songs that are previously unreleased, and that leaves only six songs culled from the rest of Melissa's library.
The diference between this and the previous version is the addition of the Oscar winning "I Need To Wake Up" from "An Inconvenient Truth." The CD booklet is gone to make it more environmentaly freindly and the plactic jewel box is replaced by a recycled paper shell with foam tray. While it changes the packaging, it doesn't change the fact that there are too many ommissions here to make it listener friendly.
This presents a problem. It leaves off such terrific popular favorites and singles. "Dance Without Sleeping," "Your Little Secret," "Breathe" and the entire contents of "Skin" wind up being neglected. That is not to say that "The Road Less Traveled" is a poor collection; it's just that it is not as thorough as it could have been.
As for the new material, it's all good stuff. Melissa's covers of Tom Petty's "Refugee" and (finally!) a studio version of Janis Jopin's "Piece Of My Heart" are, alone, worth the price of the disc. Her anthems of survival "This Is Not Goodbye" and "I Run For Life" are heartfelt and solid. Too bad the collection is a little too tame and not enough crazy. I am sure the inevitable double disc collection will eventually appear, but for now, "The Road Less Traveled" is a less than perfect primer.
4.5 Stars... Definitive overview of Mellisa Etheridge's career.......2007-07-02
Melissa Etheridge is one of the premier female singer-songwriters from this era, and after 8 studio albums, issued from 1988 to 2004, Melissa got a very deserved "Greatest Hits" treatment in 2005. Two years later, the album is reissued to include an unexpected development.
"Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled" (18 tracks, 76 min.) brings a terrific overview of Melissa's career. The set starts off with a nice new cover of the Tom Petty hit "Refugee". After that the set rolls chronologically. "The Way I Do" from her debut album is very typical of the "Etheridge sound": acoustic guitar driven rock-and-roll. I perseonally love that sound. 1993's "Yes I Am" album, arguably Melissa at her commercial peak, gets 3 tracks: "I'm The Only One", the beautiful "Come To My Window" (her biggest hit ever), and "If I Wanted To". Other highlights include "I Want To Come Over" and the new cover of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart".
The reissue comes with a new track, the excellent "I Need to Wake Up", which plays over the closing credits of the "Inconvenient Truth" documentary. The song went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song in the 2007 Oscars. Overall, this makes the compilation just that much better than the original 2005 compilation. If you were on the fence about getting this, go ahead and buy this, surely the definitive Melissa Etheridge compilation.
Coming Back To Her Window.......2007-03-17
There are very few female singers that seem to show that their words come from the heart. While more of the artists are about the outside image like Jessica Simpson, Beyonce', and Kelly Clarkson, there are much fewer singer/songwriters that still sing with feeling and compassion. Melissa Etheridge is one of those who still has the drive and has definitely shown it the past few years. She had struggled and defeated her battle with breast cancer, and reclaimed herself as a defiant, down to Earth female performer. Her hits record which was released a few years ago, showed that she was good, but it didn't completely showcase her career definitively. Now that it has been re-issued, has it gotten any better?
Melissa Etheridge's 2007 re-released Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled, spans her near 20 year career with 18 tracks that are bold, and defiant to her voice. The songs here have all been remastered nicely, and sound better than they were released a few years ago. Although not much has changed on this record as before. The album still includes a lot of great tracks including I Want To Come Over, Come To My Window, I Am The Only One, and Ain't It Heavy. The album also includes her adult contemporary hit I Run For Life, and a cover of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Refugee. The only new addition in this reissuing is I Need To Wake Up, her Oscar-winning song from the Al Gore documentary, An Inconvient Truth. The song is very bold and speaks a clear message to life around us, and fits nicely in the package. Nevertheless, the album still overlooks a few great tracks like it did before such as Breathe, Your Little Secret, and her soulful song I Wanna Be In Love from her
album Skin.
Still, despte the record overlooking a few songs, Melissa Etheridge's Greatest Hits: The Road Less traveled isn't a bad record worth listening too, for anybody who doesn't own a Melissa Etheridge album. It is a little better than it was before. I still love listening to her music, and I hope she comes back with a new record soon. Even with all the stuff that is going on, many of us are still coming to her window for great music.

Album Description
This collection covers Melissa Etheridge's 17-year career in 17 dynamic songs, including hits like "Come to My Window," "I Want to Come Over," and "Bring Me Some Water." It also includes four new recordings: her simmering take on Tom Petty's "Refugee"; a reprise of "Piece of My Heart," which wowed the world in her stunning Grammy Awards show performance this past February; an emotional and heartfelt original song called "This Is Not Goodbye"; and the brand-new "I Run for Life," an inspiring anthem for those who, like Etheridge, have had their lives impacted by breast cancer. Regarding its release, Etheridge says, "I always thought that a greatest hits album was something to aspire to. When you got to the point in your career where you could have one, you did something right."
Etheridge has recorded eight albums over the course of her career. She has won the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance twice: for the song "Ain't It Heavy" in 1992, and "Come to My Window" in 1994. In 1996, she was honored with the prestigious ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award. The Kansas-born singer/songwriter has sold more than 30,000,000 records worldwide.

Fantastic CD. Melissa's voice is so incredible, the passion that she has with each track makes this a must have
Melissa's Past Meets My Past.......2007-03-28
When I purchased this CD, I did so because Melissa sings a song very dear to my heart - I Run for Life. As an 11 year cancer survivor, I've never forgotten those with whom I shared the "dark" times with. The important thing that Melissa says and I believe is that we, as survivors, have to continue to represent those who have died, those like us who have survived and to support anyone in the future whose body is "darkened" by this disease. I'm with you Melissa... I run for life.
As I began listening to the entire CD, I heard songs from her past and some songs I had never heard before. All in all, I enjoy to this day listening to The Road Less Travelled, maybe that's because it is the road I usually take.
Rosemarie
Great collection and I Loved the new tunes!.......2007-03-28
There are several new songs on this album and they really do make it worth purchasing even if you own all of her other albums like I do. Sit back relax and enjoy. A wonderful collection from a fantastic artist.
Melissa Rocks!.......2007-01-17
I am a huge fan of Melissa Etheridge. I love this cd. While none of the songs are new I feel that all of them come together to pull off a stellar Greatest Hits. Some of these songs I haven't heard before because I don't own all of Melissa's CDs yet but I will eventually. You won't be disappointed...this is a cd you can listen to over and over again and never get bored.
Grabs you by the heart..........2007-01-14
Yes, she speaks to your heart, mind and soul. You can read between the lines, of her passionate relationships with lovers past, the hurt, the yearning, the pain of abandonment, the fire of love and jealousy. After her bout with Cancer, she wrote some very touching songs about this experience. All that she sings sounds true to the core of one's heart, it is what she means. Great rock sound, too! Go Melissa! She is the best!

Album Description
It's frighteningly clear that Evil Dead: The Musical is nothing like its glittery Broadway siblings. Peppered with enough four-letter words to make a rapper blush and bursting with more force than a Monty Python skit, the original cast recording of Evil Dead: The Musical is a truly unique treasure, sure to appeal to many with its offbeat edginess.
Customer Reviews:
This is Hysterical.......2007-07-26
I think it works better if you've seen the movie, better still if you've actually seen the stage show. But either way you don't have to be in the in crowd to get it or enjoy it. The production quality is excellent, and this will be the CD that gets worn out in the player, especially if you're having a bad day. Trust me.
Irreverent, Funny, and Excellent.......2007-07-23
My husband got tickets for me for Christmas and went back for the last show in NYC. Have seen the movies and love it all.
The soundtrack is so great. Yes, it's vulgar and crass, but it's demons not angels. The only song I don't particularly care for is the last one, "Blew the B**** Away." It didn't fit in with the rest of the music. It fit with seeing the show live, but not with the tone of the rest of the soundtrack. I know that sounds odd, but there it is.
When/if the show comes back to NYC, I'll be back to see it. Greatest line, "she just ripped my pre-ripped Abercrombies..."
Something that would be worth a long car ride with very smelly people to see.......2007-07-12
When I had first heard of this musical, I had thought that it could not possible be for real. When I actually heard this cd, I had thought that it could not possible be for real. This is the funniest, smartest, crassest and most original remake of movie that I have come across in a very long time. "What the F*** Was That?" will be on my list of top 100 songs for a very long time. Anyone who loved the movies this is based on, or who just have a place in their heart for comic gold, need to have this cd in their collection.
I Have Never Heard Anything Worse.......2007-07-11
OK, so after reading this review, I'm sure that most people will think that I'm one of those musical theatre elitists that just "don't get it" when a show is just trying to be fun. But, believe me, that couldn't be further from the truth. I can appreciate that musical theatre is supposed to speak to a wide range of tastes and styles and that a show like Evil Dead is not supposed to be taken too seriously. I also get it when a show is trying to be a clever parody (i.e. Urinetown) or just a fun and light-hearted piece of eye and ear candy that doesn't require a lot of deep thought or heavy emotion. I also understand that not all composers/lyricists are seasoned professionals and, believe it or not, I actually support and encourage new and start-up writers and embrace all of their novice mistakes, as long as they don't all occur in the same place at the same time. So, believe me, I get it.
But, sometimes, even with all of this forgiveness in my heart, there are some scores that are simply atrocious. I'm afriad that Evil Dead falls into that category. First, the music: In my mind, a musical score has to be either melodic or original. In the best cases, you have both. In the worst cases, you have neither. In this case, you have nothing. Just nothing. The songs don't say anything - musically or otherwise. They have all been done before, and they are all really, really, bad. I just don't know how else to say it. But the worst part of this unforgivable score has got to be the lyrics. When I say that they are unlistenable, I am not exagerating. These are the worst lyrics I have ever heard committed to CD. Seriously, they are that bad. I couldn't find one redeeming moment. Picture rhymes that a 6-year old might come up with - like trying to rhyme "would be" with "groovy", or "girl" with "squirrel". Yes, I'm afraid these are real examples. The lyrics, in fact, are so bad, that I am not completely confident in my review of the music because I couldn't even get through some of the songs. I shudder at the thought of ever going back to listen to this monstrosity again.
The performances are awful - but that I can forgive. After all, this was not a Broadway show and the actors, in all fairness, had no decent material to work with. I do like the concept, so please don't think that this is the problem. In fact, the story is why I even picked up this CD to begin with. My entire problem is that this is the worst score I have ever heard and, because of that, I found myself constantly infuriated at the fact that these composers were given any funding at all to stage this show - clearly based on the draw of the concept - when there are far better unknown composers out there with real talent who just can't get a break.
So, in summary - I encourage everyone reading this review to continue to support off-Broadway theatre and upstart composers and even shows that are not completely perfect. Just don't support this one. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But the producers who mounted this show and released this CD really don't deserve your money. There's no nice way to say it.
Evil Dead Rocks!.......2007-06-29
The cast album to 'Evil Dead" is almost as much fun as Little Shop of Horrors! It's a tongue in cheek spoof all the way with some really fun music to go along with it. Loads of different styles of music and plenty of fun for all!

I chose...poorly.......2007-02-24
Returned this CD after two weeks. The hypnotherapist tries to get you into a deep sleep way too early. Then the images she uses are disjointed. You're in a library, for example, then you look down at you feet, and suddenly you're on a mountaintop! What?? I was just in a library! And how is a mountaintop relaxing? It's freezing up there! So you try to adapt - but then all of the sudden, you're on a beach! Forget it. And she makes references to a baby - which is NOT at all relaxing. Kids stress me out. I was too jarred and uncomfortable. This CD harmed more than it helped. Really lousy.
Great Self-Hypnosis CD!!.......2006-09-24
I've had this CD for about 5 years and I can't believe I waited so long to review it. Every time I listen to it I am left feeling peaceful and relaxed. Melissa's voice is very soothing and I the background music is beautiful. I notice a difference in my attitude toward life when I include listening to this CD as a regular part of my weekly routine. To be honest, I didn't expect that at all!!! I took one star off because I think the session should have developed more slowly and lasted longer. I highly recommend this CD!!
Not that great.......2006-08-15
Some parts of this CD are good, but others are annoying.
I don't care for Melissa's voice, but perhaps this is a personal issue. In addition, there is a particular "guided visualization" in this CD that I find especially grating - "see yourself hitting the homerun, everyone is cheering you, you can do it" and "See yourself playing with a puppy and smelling it's litte puppy breath" Seeing myself hit a homerun in grade school is not going to further me along my path, sorry. My recommendation: "See yourself purchasing a better guided Visualization CD."
big help.......2006-07-11
I bought this cd last year. I finally took the time to pop it in and listen. The first time I listened to it I had trouble paying attention, but I loved her voice and the pace. I started listening to this at just the right time. I think it is helping me tremendously!
Very Soothing.......2006-06-14
Relaxing and soothing - a wonderful escape from the drama of day to day life - I highly recommend this peaceful journey - worth every penny - has made a great gift, too!

Yes I Am is the album that catapulted Melissa Etheridge into superstardom. The 1993 collection's mercilessly driven, bluesy songs--nearly all dripping with sensual lyrics and rousing rhythms--made it the ideal breeding ground for a couple of career-enhancing music videos. The eerily possessive rock ballad "Come to My Window" hit the tube first with a bizarre twofold portrait of Etheridge and her guitar and actress Juliette Lewis having a nervous breakdown. This single brought the album into the public consciousness and was quickly followed by the similarly obsessive, slow-groovin' "I'm the Only One" and the co-dependence-battling "If I Wanted To." But the album's real strength is in the hidden gems untouched by MTV programmers. The slow-building "Silent Legacy," the undulating blues scream "Yes I Am," and the playful, acoustic "Ruins" are what make this album a whole. --Sally Weinbach

Another Powerful Recording.......2007-06-02
I took my fiance at the time (we are married now) to one of Melissa's concerts. He went to appease me however he found that he could not help but tap his toes, dance around and get into the music even though he knew none of her songs. She is that powerful.
Her lyrics are rousing and lustrous. Her music and innovative style puts her on the cutting edge leaving her fans wanting more. "Yes I Am', Ruins" and "If I Only Wanted To" are just 3 of the songs on this album that I can really relate to.
If you are in the market to add an artist to your collection I would highly recommend this album.
Yes I Am.......2007-04-03
yes i am, and yes she is. This is the album when melissa etheridge finally announced to the world that she was a lesbian, great decision. This is one of my favorite albums by her. Contains the lesbian anthem "Come to my window", great video to that by the way. and has other great songs like "im the only one" and "All American Girl" the song "yes i am" is also a real heartfelt song. the song "silent legacy" has some great words about being lesbian and is a very soothing song. All in all this a great album and i highly recommend it to anyone. You cant say you love melissa etheridge without owning this album.
What Channel Are You Folks On???.......2006-06-06
Please read this review if your fire has been doused by the buckets of flame-retardants heaped upon it by the Entertainment Tonight mentalities who've been reviewing it.
First of all, there is NOT ONE word in her poetic lyrics which could possibly infer "gay" or "lesbian" themes. What there IS in this beautiful collection, is an abundance of material that touches upon the fruits of diversity, acceptance, and individuality (tolerance is too weak of a word). The only reason reviewers can even begin to get preachy so far as to call this a "coming out of the closet" album is because they "know" (from their ET shows and from the check-out counter rag-mags that inundated the public with Melissa's "sexuality").
This album is about heart, about truth to ones own nature, about walking your own path, about love and heartache, but most of all this album is about INTEGRITY.
Sure it boasts the sultry pining I'm The Only One, and the love-lorn Come To My Window. But every song on this collection is a poem, beautifully written and scored with a lot of heart. This album is the pinnacle of Melissa's maturation as a songwriter and singer (check out Heart's Dog & Butterfly if you want to know what I mean).
I'm not going to run down each song with a bullet-comment review, just realize that If I Wanted To, Silent Legacy, I Will Never Be The Same, Yes I Am, Resist, and Ruins, are among the very best songs Etheridge ever wrote and performed.
If you are a fan who has not purchased this and are sitting on the docks with her debut album believing it was the best ever because you were blown away when it debuted, pick up Yes I Am and you will be blown to the next level. This album is as much better than her debut self-titled as that one was better than all the pasty female rock artists that saturated us during the 80's.
The acoustics are rendered lighter than air while the electric guitar leads just soar like a stealth bomber. These melodies are both so complex and yet richly simple it's as if Melissa is an artist who painted each song with brush strokes from her heart.
If you are just pondering buying this album because of two songs, you might as well pick up her "greatest hits" album instead because you sound like a Bryan Adams or TP&theHeartbreakers kind of listener to me. If, however, you like the richness of ME's writing style, her brooding vocals, and her gut-wrenching music (if Melissa Etheridge MOVES you) then don't miss out on this album, it's definitely her 5-Star performance!
Once again, Melissa issues a directive on individuality, a cry for acceptance and diversity, not a lecture on sexual preferences. Those reviewers are on the wrong channel watching the unfolding dramas of Brad and Angelina, Tom and Katie, and can't live without trouble in paradise! And if you like artistry in music, something deeper and more meaningful that the pablum of "commercially successful" music, take a big bite of this apple!
And she certainly is...........2005-10-15
Talented, that is. This is the cd that did it... for me, and her. This is her landmark cd, the one that put her on the map!
All but 2 tracks here got airplay.. at least here in Pgh.
'Come to my window', 'If I wanted to' and 'I'm the only one' spawned great videos that helped propel melissa to the top. They are all great songs.
Other greats that I feel should have got more recognition are 'I will never be the same','Yes I am', 'Ruins' and 'Talking to my angel'. Nonetheless, it proved a point. Regardless of sexuality, this chick can rock!!
Her soaring vocals, driven guitars and drums combine excellently here. It's her singer/songwriter talent that really made the mark. She takes simple situations and brings out all the passion they contain.
Her voice is so expressive that it can pretty much tell the story behind the words. Every growl, plea and blue note seem to flow effortlessly.
Melissa made her mark with this collection of songs. Her previous works were good, but this one I do believe is her best. I would recommend it as a place to start when beginning to explore this wonderfully talented artist.
It all came together for her here..........2005-09-22
Aside from the less than subtle title, this was Melissa Etheridge's coming out album, both as a musician and personally. The album as a whole is just about perfect, displaying her ability to rock and her perfection at digging into those areas of the soul few musicians can tread without going sappy. She gets ya' where you live.
The bluesy 'I'm the Only One' and the song 'Come to My Window' put Melissa into the mainstream, the potential building on her previous three efforts. On this one it all came together as she returns to her roots and avoided going toward the pop sound. She gets much more raw and after her personal life became as noticed as her musical talent, many of the lyrics make a lot more sense in hindsight. Yet they are such that they transcend her own personal life.
My interest in her waned after this album but this album shows that she is one of the strongest and most talented artists in the entertainment world.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
During the dark days of the singer's split from Julie Cypher, her companion of 12 years, Melissa Etheridge retreated to her home studio to pen songs lit from within with her searing pain and confusion. From those heart-wrenching sessions comes arguably Etheridge's finest work. She vents and rages and all but spits on her Tony Llama boots, giving these 10 songs a depth and grit that she only hinted at in her prior six albums. And those early albums were plenty gritty. But early tunes such as "Come to My Window," and "Yes I Am" don't approach the naked vulnerability heard here--even though the breakup was hinted at in "Stronger Than Me," on 1999's Breakdown. Skin peels back layers of Etheridge's pain and addresses her personal melodrama in such a compelling way that her despair is transmuted into true art, as she takes the listener through the stages of grief and recovery. And what a journey, beginning with the bristling "Lover Please" ("Didn't I love you right / Then tell me where are you going dressed to kill tonight? / Oh, this one's gonna hurt like hell") and ending with the stirring "Heal Me," which features background vocals by famous pals Laura Dern and Meg Ryan. That's almost all the help she has on the record; Etheridge plays almost all the instruments and penned all the songs. But, ultimately, Skin is the sound of one heart breaking. --Jaan Uhelszki

Skin.......2007-05-13
Melissa Etheridge's Skin is in my opinion her best album by far. it is so heart felt and emotional. every time i listen to this album i reminisce of past relationships and heartbreaks. this is a great album to listen to when youre depressed because it starts out very sad and ends happy.
Love it!.......2007-05-13
One of my favorite Melissa Etheridge albums. The lyrics rock, the music rocks, the vocal rocks. Buy it...you won't regret it!
This is an one of the best albums I own. .......2006-05-01
I like every kind of music from rock to rap to celtic to latin. I own over a thousand cds & this is on the top three list of my all time favorites. Anyone that is hurting after a bad realationship, is depressed, or just wants to be in love, can relate to this album (even if you havn't been through any of these three things, it's still a terrifc cd). I personally can relate to all ten of the songs on it. It would be a mistake for any fan to be without this album or anyone that likes good music for that matter.
Awesome as always.......2005-08-14
Some cds you only like a few songs. I have never owned one melissa cd that had even one song I did not like! Way to go Melissa! I hope she is healed from her cancer scare!
Perfect skin.......2005-03-11
I do like Lissy, and have quite a few of her albums, but when I think about it I think I like her more for what she is (ie when I was 19, the fact she was an out lesbian rocker was enough) than her actual output. Prior to this one, only her debut would I put on and listen to all the way through, though many of her other albums do have fantastic standout tracks.
Having said that, Skin is one of the most completely accomplished albums in my collection (and I have a few!). It runs the gamut of human emotion (well, to do with love) and encompasses variation in musical terms. It's all rock, but there are ballads, pure rockers, folk and even a bit of electronica sneaks on The Different, my fave track from the album.
Her naive lyrics are charming and "in front of total strangers won't you kiss me" on I Want To Be In Love, I think, absolutely sums up a gay person falling in love in one succinct line, like I have heard nowhere else, ever. (Please don't take that as any kind of gay versus straight comment, it's just straight people kissing in front of strangers doesn't really compare to gay people doing it.)
If you're thinking of buying a Lissy and don't know where to start, there's no better place than here. Skin really is an awesome, adult, heart-felt album that will not leave your 'regularly played' selection for years. I bought it on special after the fact and I almost want to send her a cheque for the difference. It's that good.
(Almost, obviously. I'm not a fool.)

Melissa Etheridge's considerable talents as writer/singer/performer have often seemed confounded by expectations--the artist having burdened herself with more than a few of them. Etheridge spent the '90s alternately proving her mettle as one of the era's most successful female rock artists (peaking with the multi-platinum Yes I Am), trying to recapture those glories, then plumbing the depths of an all-too-public romantic flame-out on '01's confessional Skin. But here, the singer seems content to engage in a little musical soul-baring of a wholly different stripe, showcasing her bluesy, ever expressive chops on a record that refuses to apologize for its contemporary production slickness and unashamed positive vibes. The ghosts of recent personal troubles get swept away by the breezy of "When You Find the One" and the romantic anthem "This Moment" and the wistful "Will You Still Love Me." "Mercy" engages her in a compelling, reflective duet with vocalist Bernie Barlow while the spare, bittersweet "Tuesday Morning" pays tribute to the heroes of 9/11. There's a confidence born of maturity and hard-won wisdom throughout--and the courage to simply play it straight down the middle of the road. --Jerry McCulley

Lucky.......2007-05-13
Melissa Etheridge's Lucky is a very great album. i listen to this one all the time it never gets old to me. love the song secret agent and kiss me, very sexy. also the song i am a giant is a very powerful song. i recommend this album to anyone.
Awesome As Always!.......2007-04-01
I love the passion Melissa sings with. I love that she puts her heart right out there.
My favorite song on this album is Tuesday Morning. It sent chills down my spine. Such an awesome message! Go Melissa!!
Melissa Is Finally Happy.......2007-01-18
I give this album 4 stars because it took me a few listens to really get into it. There is certainly a mix of different messages and a lot of emotions and examination going on with Melissa and her new life that come about in this album. There are a couple of songs that I loved immediately and a couple that like I said above took a couple of listens before I was able to really get into them.
This was the first CD I've ever owned of Melissa's so I didn't know what to expect and didn't go into it with any kind of preset notions of how it should sound so I think it helped me to enjoy the experience more. Since I bought this album I have also purchased three other Melissa Etheridge CD's and you can certainly hear the change in the tone and in her voice.
I love this CD and I would recommend you buy it but I would stay away from comparing it to her other albums. If you like her darker sound you probably won't like this album but if you are like me and don't mind something a little different than what she usually sings then you will love it.
Good.......2006-09-04
This is a good album, though not her best work, still a good album.
The song "Breathe" is a cover song. It was written and originally recorded by a St. Louis band called Greenwheel on their album Soma Holiday. I love their version so much more.
BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!.......2006-03-26
I'm a huge fan of all Melissa Etheridge's stuff but, this album just doesn't cut it. It's dissappointing both lyrically and musically. I rarely listen to this cd. I give it 3 stars because I do like In This Moment, When You Find The One, Giant, Secret Agent and Meet Me In The Dark. However, nothing on this album could ever possibly top her previous efforts such as Bring Me Some Water, Ain't It Heavy, It's For You, Come To My Window, Yes I Am, Breakdown, Stronger Than Me, The Different, Lover Please, the list goes on and on. I think I like Melissa better when she's a little bitter, jaded and out of love! Better LUCK next time!

Customer Reviews:
No, no, no..........2007-07-26
Comparable to the case of the Goodfellas soundtrack, this is missing quite a bit of material. Why is it so hard to make a thorough compilation that has few, or no, omissions? I don't get it. I won't buy this based on the fact that it has absolutely none of the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums compositions on either of the two disks released. If this is the score, then where are the scores? Not putting the "Theme from Symphony No. 5 in E Minor" Dvorak (performed by NYPD E.S.P.&D) is simply inexcusable. That was a very poignant moment in the movie, the funeral scene at the end, and is near impossible to find. Anyone know where to find this?
there could be soundtracks, or scores. when they come from the same movie... what's the difference???.......2007-05-07
i purposely titled this for a reason. you hear in the departed the songs like "comfortably numb," "gimme shelter," and "sail on sailor" (2 of those three on the other disc). then add in howard shore to compliment the rest of the music.
have you ever watched a movie and liked the music, but can't really point out if it really is score or just something scorsese picked to thumb in the flick. this is one of those cases where you should buy this CD with the other to get the full effect. there's not too much difference in mood for the music in the movie.
i loved the really layered use of electric instruments (i speak of guitars here), and the other musical instruments put together. then there are the tracks where you can figure out they just have to stand alone from everything else.
by the way, two tracks are also on the other disc, but that's no big deal, some continuity doesn't hurt.
so in the end, you have one CD that has a trail mix of songs, then there is the score that uses a blend of sounds that mesh like gears in a clock to make a soothing mix out of the score. but when you come down to it, what difference does it make when either one comes from the same movie?
The Departed score.......2007-01-09
It's beautiful - not much more I can say - Howard Shore wrote a wonderful score - sorry about the rhyme!
A Cohesive Work...Brilliant guitar performances.......2006-12-08
Most motion picture scores, unfortunately, are bland when removed from the visual stimuli of the movie images. Not so for this magnificent Howard Shore penned masterpiece. Like the movie for which it was written, the score is spellbinding and provocative. Each individual piece is complete unto itself, never failing to deliver its unique impact. The score in its entirety takes the listener on a fantastic and passionate journey emotionally and aurally. What sets this artistic work apart from countless others is the unique styling offered by Howard Shore and the stellar guitar playing by Grammy winning classical guitarist Sharon Isbin. Her subtleties on "Billy's Theme" evoke the anguish and deep emotional conflict that Leonardo DiCaprio portrays onscreen. Such a powerful performance is rare on any recording, unheard of on a soundtrack or score. G.E Smith's slightly processed electric guitar adds yet another dimension. I generally do not buy "movie" music, but this is a CD that I do own. It is a fabulous recording and worthy of critical listening.
