Product Description
Formed in Solingen, Germany in the early 70s by wild and crazy frontman, Udo Dirkschneider, Accept forged their way to the top of the 80s metal ranks with their brutal and heavy riffs and Udo's trademark screeching banshee styled vocal trait. Distinctly original and instantly recognizable, Accept conquered seemingly the entire planet outside the USA. With such classic albums as Restless And Wild, Breaker, I'm A Rebel and Accept finally seeing mid-price status, those Stateside best be keeping their ears open and their balls to the wall!
Udo Dirkschneider: "When I think back on the development of I'm A Rebel, only one thought comes to mind: too many people involved trying to manipulate the band, just like on the first album. The title song, I'm A Rebel, was originally planned for AC/DC but they were not interested. We were played an 8 track demo made by Bon Scott!!! We definitely wanted to record the song and couldn't understand why AC/DC did not want to do it. In hindsight it was possibly a mistake not to use the producer who wanted to record this album since he was no less than the producer for AC/DC."
All of the Accept Super Value Re-Release series feature booklets with new liner notes, historical reminiscents and comments by Udo Dirkschneider, never before seen photos and memorabilia. And all at a cool price!

People You Don't Hear, But Should.......2006-12-24
When I had the time peruse the music stores and flip through the endless choices in the racks, I depended on nothing but instinct, intuition and a cynical view of the highly profiled, promoted and financed musical confetti of the Mega record companies to help me make music decisions for my purchases.
One does not have the time or money to listen to and buy all the music that is desired out of an impossible mass of recordings, but, when I saw this beautifull album years ago ( in vinyl), I had a sense it would be primo. The beautifully understated cover design and presentation made me feel these were people about music.....and I was right. The studio production is spare because little else is needed to augment this wonderfully focused and talented group singing a tight wealth of songs. There is not a wasted track on this album...everyone will have their different views about their favorites, but, it all because of different perspectives. In our current situation in Iraq, and the proposed threat of another military draft in the U.S, "Boys in Blue" has re-emerged as a tremendously timely, poignent, powerful, and beautiful anthem for the plight of the men and women bravely fighting in Irag and Afganistan in the worst of circumstances. This is beautiful music and musicians.
So good...but so obscure........2006-09-06
This very obscure 1987 release features some divine and exquisite Quiet Storm ballads that will please all romantic and smooth Soul fans. "Stay and Let Me Love You", "No Conversation", "Lover's Confessions" and "Turn Out The Lights" are understated but heartfelt tales of love and lust that will soothe your heart and soul. View From The Hill recorded just one album... but it was a near-masterpiece.

The Tradition Continues.......2003-11-17
This group of young guys have got it all together in perpetuating the wonderful tradition of the Boys From Indiana, one of the finest traditional bluegrass bands that ever played. The penmanship of most of the material wouldn't let it be any other way, the Holts are solid and better bluegrass songs were never written. If you like your bluegrass traditional in this day of a lot of progressive and other slants on bluegrass this is an album to buy, and I know you'll want to get all of their current material. Old Boys From Indiana material is extinct but this fills the bill real well and bring back fond memories of them.
Solid, but not stunning.......2002-12-05
My first exposure to the Wildwoods was their 2002 album, "Back Country Road," which is simply stunning. I was surprised to find you that this earlier album is merely an okay-sounding bluegrass gospel set, with some really nice harmonies, but kind of muted, low-key picking backing them up. Not as much spark and fire on this album, although it's still very good and very solid. Worth checking out, though their next album will blow your mind!
Super Bluegrass Gospel.......2001-04-07
I recently saw the Wildwood valley Boys in person and was really impressed with their music.Their blend of playing with Tony Holt's voice is fantastic. Most of the songs on this CD are written by the Holt family and there is not a bad song in the bunch. One song just seems to blend right into the next one. If you like good ole traditional bluegrass gospel music then this CD is a must for you. As the title says, I'm A Believer in the Wildwood Valley Boys.

Customer Reviews:
English is an asset and a drawback.......2004-07-20
The best thing about this recording of Carmen is the libretto. Conductor David Parry penned this facile and dramatic English translation. He avoids the pitfalls of literal translation to achieve an idiomatic flow that matches the rhythm of the original lyrics. I use this as a reference libretto for any of the French Carmens.
Unfortunately, the performance suffers from being sung in English. The singers declaim their parts with such proper British diction that Carmen comes across as a school marm. The spoken dialog is delivered beat for deliberate beat and is dripping with reverb. It makes the plaza, tavern and mountain pass all sound like a sewer pipe.
This is a good first Carmen for someone trying to understand the work. The libretto itself is a good investment for further listening. For an enjoyable performance with an emphasis on character and action, I recommend Regina Resnik on the London Double Decker set.
You Will Love Opera After Hearing Carmen In English.......2004-02-09
What a perfect introduction to opera. This newly released recording will surely get you hooked into opera. Carmen, a French opera by Georges Bizet, is the most recognizable and most popular in the opera world. It's famous melodies- the overture, the Habanera, The Toreador Song have all been featured in everything from cellular phone ring tones to Superbowl Commercial (last year's Superbowl with The "Opera In English" label has been making Italian operas into English for a number of years now. Also on the market are Verdi's La Traviata in English (with soprano Valerie Masterson as Violetta) Handel's Julius Caesar with Janet Baker and even Wagner's epic Ring Of The Nibeling sung in English. This is a terrific recording and I highly recommend it if you want to get into opera. Listen to this version first and then try the real, original French version Bizet had written. Patricia Bardon is sensational, sexy and dramatic as Carmen.
The real strength of this version is the dynamic drama. With the advantage of being sung in English, we get better insight on characters' emotions and motives, and we understand the drama a lot better. Carmen is all about great drama. Bizet drew the plot from the French writer Prosper Merimee's dark short story. Carmen is the ultimate femme fatale- a devil-may-care, sexy Gypsy living in Spain, seduces the conservatively raised soldier Don Jose, stealing him away from his fiancee, the passive Micaela, living a life of underground smuggling and rowdy taverns. "Habanera" and "The Gypsy Song and Dance" are very expressive of Carmen's extraordinarily liberal lifestyle. Don Jose, however, has fallen deeply in love- as he shows us in his song/aria "The Flower Song". But Carmen soon becomes tired of his constancy. Don Jose wants a committed, monogamous relationship with Carmen. But Carmen will not submit to love, since she is first and foremost a carnal creature. Eventually, she falls for the handsome Toreador Escamillo. Don Jose, consumed by jealousy, stabs Carmen at a bullfight after Carmen declares her love for Escamillo and rejects Don Jose's love. Don Jose's crazed, obscessive personality shines through in the English version as well. This tragedy has been done in English before so don't think this is the first time. Back in the 50's, there was a film, starring black actors "Carmen Jones" which was treated the same way as this opera- more like an English Broadway musical and with the dubbed singing voice of Marilyn Horne as Carmen. All in all, this recording is excellent.
A wholly credible "Carmen" -- finally!.......2003-09-17
This recording really sells "Carmen" as a drama. Although I have two other recordings of this opera and have seen it performed several times, it never quite worked for me dramatically. But thanks to the fine performances, conducting, and translation here, I've become a "Carmen" convert. Producing a good English-language performance of a foreign opera, especially a warhorse like "Carmen," is much more difficult than it might appear. You need performers who not only can sing the parts (of course) but also can sing *English* and make it halfway intelligible and make it sound like English and make it dramatically convincing to English-speakers. The singers on this recording do an excellent job all around. Don't be put off if you don't recognize their names -- they are up to the task musically and (especially) in their acting. Admittedly, as with *all* English-language recordings, some passages are very hard to understand without reading along, but most of the time the words are clear and effective. I would recommend this recording to any opera beginner or opera lover, even those who normally turn up their noses at performances in translation.
I love Carmen!.......2003-08-15
I do. I can think of no other opera with more melodic inventiveness, and few others with so sure a dramatic pulse. Carmen is popular and it thrills me to say that it is also a very good opera - not always true of popular things.
And what of this recording? Carmen sits well in English, so it is good to hear in translation, although some of the detais in the text jar. Escamillo refers to Jose as "my dear", which sounds rather peculiar, and the guide's line to Micaela: "it's not exactly inviting, is it?" sounds distinctly Middle England rather than Rural Spain. Some of the performers, not least Carmen herself, make the words work, although there are long tracts, especially with the chorus, where the language is distinctly indistinct.
The soloists are, by and large, strong. Patricia Bardon's deep, Handel-friendly voice adapts well to Carmen and she colours the music with phenomenal detail, sounding sexy and provocative from the start with an edge of pride and anger that emerges as the show goes on. She is out of her depth above the stave, though, and some extra top notes in the second act don't show her off to her best advantage. I have previously said that Julian Gavin is poorly served by recordings, though here he sounds much more even and gives a thrilling and musical performance (but his wooden spoken lines let him down). Mary Plazas is a lovely Micaela, rich-voiced and sincere (and word-perfect), but Garry Magee sounds miscast as Escamillo, lacking the ballast at the bottom of the voice to do justice to this tricky role.
The supporting cast is good (Mary Hegarty seems to do nothing but Frasquita these days!) but the really treasurable thing is the conducting. Stepping out of Italian Ottocento, David Parry turns his hand to this French Comedie with an appropriate lightness of touch. His pacing and handling of the set pieces is exemplary and the enrtractes go with a real swing.
A pleasure, then, for the Carmen naive or a novelty for the Carmen-acquainted. I nearly wrote Carmen-weary - but I don't think it's possible.

GREAT STUFF!.......2007-07-26
In 1980 this was the second release from Germany's Accept. The songs on this disc were a step in the right direction for a band that would release some excellent music in the 80's. This disc has 5 great songs, which is why I gave it a rating of 5 stars. My favorite is a number unlike most Accept songs in that it features acoustic guitars and a mellow, instead of screaming Udo. I think what they were thinking, to answer a question from another review, is that they wanted to showcase some talent and show they were more than just loud metal heads. I Wanna Be No Hero is in the same vein, since Udo doesn't scream throughout that song either. The other 3 songs that I find exceptional are I'm a Rebel, Save Us and Thunder and Lightning. If you can find this below $5 it is an excellent buy. If you look hard enough you can find a CMC release with this and the first album together for less than $10 [That's an even greater buy]. If you are looking for the Accept you hear or herad on the radio then you may want to try Restless and Wild, Balls to the Wall or Metal Heart. If you have never heard Accept before it may be good to try a compilation/greatest hits disc. They never really had hits unless you count AOR from the 80's, though. This is some classic stuff, so, don't be afraid to get on the Accept bandwagon. Under rated and great from a metal standpoint.
Solid early Accept album is better then most give credit for.......2004-12-30
"I'm a Rebel" actually deserves a 4 and a half, it is exellent and very underrated, even by Accept fans standards.Accept would produce an album one year after this (1981) called "Breaker" which is my favorite from them, and thats why "I'm a Rebel" gets 4 and a half, because it is a little less agressive then that one (Breaker) but musically exellent nontheless. This album is definatly better then the debut album, you can hear the trademark Accept sound developing (albeit very early)and it shows where these guys were headed. What was really cool was the Disco like beats, i know it might sound weird but it works here and quite well, also the production is kind of raw but it only adds to the charm of it.I don't know why alot of people didn't like this one, it has some of the best songs Accept wrote, my favs being "save us" "thunder and lightning" "china lady" "the king" which could be put in any live set from them and really shine.Udo acctauly throws us for a loop and sings melodicaly on some songs instead of his trademark growls and knife on chalkboard screams which he is known for.I rather listen to this then "Balls to the wall" or "Metal heart" anyday, this was when the band was hungry and creative and not trying to pull a Metallica on us by releasing commercial efforts, early Accept (debut album thru Restless and Wild) has always remained the best.I'm a Rebel is also a pretty rare album, infact i have yet to see a music store that carries any Accept album prior to BALLS, but this album is definatly an underrated classic, don't miss it!
A step in the WRONG direction.......2002-02-17
This is their second album, and it's not bad.But songs like I wanna Be Hero, and the title cut leave you wondering "What the *&*& Were They Thinking" Dont get me wrong, there are some great songs on this album, such as The King,Thunder & Lightning,China Lady.If they had just ditched the DISCO_METAL songs and tried to be more innovative like on their first album, on which the only fault is the bad mixing/production.Luckily, they put the key back in the ignition for the next album BREAKER which is brilliant, and started them back on a great career.
this album defies authority.......2001-02-08
i have the tape version somewhere and it totally frickin ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my favorite song off this tape/cd is thunder and lightning, which pretty much sums up what this metal band is about.

The album is quite good, the musicians talented, but I have heard the same music on other CD's played a bit better. However I love any civil war music and will listen to this CD many times
The Best.......2003-02-22
This is probably the best and most authentic renditions of music from the era of the Civil War that you will ever hear. Forget the country music versions, if you want to hear the songs the way they would have sounded this is it. I cannot say enough about this album. For the true belivers.

Fabulous!.......2005-04-17
even though this album is not considered a classic by many, it contains true gems like "No time to lose" and "The King". These two songs are two of my most favorite songs, period, among all genres and musicians!
The foundations of a great band..........2004-06-23
This album makes clear how Accept was destined to be a great metal band. Although slightly different fromtheir breakthrough album RESTLESS AND WILD, it's clear since the word "go" how he musicians were skilled and creative.
This album has eight strong songs. even the repetitive chorus of "I'm A Rebel" will get to you. The ballad "The King" is very good. In short, I love all the songs here.
excellent album shows the bands early sound.......1999-02-02
A much different sound than their later albums, this is still an amazing piece. From the melodic The King and No Time To Loose, to I Wanna Be No Hero with its heavily compressed distortion, the abum is solid. Thunder And Lightning and China Lady show the sound the band went towards and used in later albums.A must for Accept fans or early 80's metal fans.
An average offering from Germany's premier hard rock group.......1998-05-18
I'm a rebel has no outstanding hits, sounds like an entire album of filler. Accept fans will enjoy it. It is a little softer than such mega hits as 'Princess of the Dawn' and 'Balls to the Wall'

Disco metal experiment.......2004-09-26
I think Accept were not quite sure of where they were headed at the time they made this album. It takes a weird turn from the straight ahead (but occasionally boring) metal from the first album into the realm of disco. Their next album was a strong return to metal, suggesting they realised that they were a few years out of step with music fashion. I'm A Rebel is an interesting experiment - probably not the best place to be musically but worth a listen all the same.
The title track is an outrageous anthem that should really be appalling, but it's strangely catchy. I've been trying to work out if it actually has a bass line for many years (it lacks bottom end for some reason). "Save Us" is a very neat disco metal track, with strong riffs competing with a disco high-hat and bass line. "China Lady" uses simple, blues based riffing, but very addictive. "I Wanna Be No Hero" is so seriously disco it's funny, yet (once again) it is still a reasonable tune.
Overall I give the album a 3/5, as it gets old rather quickly, plus there are two dud tracks ("No Time To Lose" and "Do It").

Album Description

A Sign Of Great Things To Come.......2006-12-06
This CD gets a bad rap which I feel is unfair. Accept is one of my favorite bands, so I would have really liked to give this a higher rating than a 2 star, I would have probably given a 2 and a half but they don't have half star ratings. I'm a rebel is a huge leap forward from the self-titled debut. The title song "I'm A Rebel" is truly excellant and is the highlight of the CD. There is also another fantastic song on here sung by the bass player, the song is called "The King" and it reminds me both musically and lyrically of classic Dio fronted Rainbow.Unfortunately I couldn't rate it higher because it is just too unbalanced. You can definitely hear the 'classic' Accept sound on songs like I'm A Rebel,China Lady, and Do It but you can also tell the band is still trying to find it's sound.
The Pros - If you are an Accept fan, you need this for your collection. It has the beginnings of the classic sound. I'm A Rebel,China Lady,The King,Do It.It even has some cool disco style bass riffs (trust me,it works) on Save Us and I Wanna Be No Hero
The Cons - It just feels a little unbalanced. The production isn't very good either
The Bottom Line - If you are a fan of Accept, definitely pick this up,the title cut and The King make it worthwhile. However,if you are new to Accept start with the classics "Breaker" and "Balls To The Wall" Donutman says so!
Lame, c-grade ACDC crap.......2006-03-24
Great cover, but that's it. Nothing electrifying or rising above decent and "nice try" status. Get the 1st LP and continue with BREAKER on. A cute record if nothing else.
Humble Beginings............2005-09-07
Dont get me wrong, this album has some trademark scorchingly hot Hard Rock tracks, but "Heavy Metal"? No way...
Accept themselves (Well at least UDO) have pretty much disowned this album, mainly because this is not what they had in mind when they were signed. Well what do I mean? "I'm A Rebel" was written by George Alexander, an alias for none other than George Young, producer/Brother of Malcom and Angus from AC/DC. Hence the heavy duty cop of the classic AC/DC sound on a few tracks (Do It & I'm A Rebel) I'm a Rebel is a horrible song,Isnt it? I loved it when I was 15 though....
This record is really all over the place.... SAVE US is a hard rocking song, then all of a sudden this disco bass line...cool song though, like two songs in one!
I Wanna Be no Hero is a very pop-friendly dance tune and a rather good one! Wow, is this really Accept? A far cry from Fast as a shark.
Same goes for No Time To Lose and The King. No Time to lose is a very cool tune, sung by Peter Baltes, rich harmony vox, flowing intertwining guitar lines, just a great song. The King is also OK, but oh my, the cringingly bad lyrics could make Ronnie James Dio Blush....
Thunder and Lightning is another great song, with a nice dual guitar solo section, listen closely after the 1st chorus into the 2nd verse, there is a dropout on one of the guitars that was never fixed in the studio. I'll be darned if you can figure out what UDO is singing about.
The best tunes on the album are DO IT and CHINA LADY. They just simply rock from begining to end. They both attack the senses like a frieght train.
The vox and guitars all sound great, but gosh, what a horrible drum mix! the Snare sounds like a tom tom, thumping along the whole recording.
Stefan and Udo mentioned in the Staying a life video that their ideas they were preparing for this album were shot down. They werent allowed to be creative. But the album has its moments, you can tell they had something, y'now? But you could not see the monster song writers they would become on the next album, BREAKER!
