4 out of 5 stars The best Metallica covers.......2005-12-26

This is by now the best Metallica Tribute album I've ever heard. Those bands (mostly form Europe) did a great job covering Metallica, but some are horrible.

1. Seek & Destroy.
German Power Metal band, Primal Fear, starts with one of Metallica's most catchy songs. Excellent opening, one of my favourites from this album, except for the guitar solos.

2. Fight Fire With Fire.
Awesome song, the "flute" beginning is extremely good and afterwards, the fury is released by an excellent Black/Thrash/Death Metal melody. You can feel the the greatness of this song. Guitars, drums, bass and vocals are awesome. My favourite of this album.

3. Whiplash.
A great Thrash cover from a great Thrash band: Destruction. This guys rock, the song is excellent. Another of my favourites.

4. Phantom Lord.
The only american band covers this song, it's great, since it's Anthrax who is playing. Another of the favourites.

5. Fade to Black.
This song is a classic nowadays, Sonata Arctica does a great job with this song, even though it's slow.

6. Master of Puppets.
What happened? Everything was ok, perfect guitars, excellent bass and drums... but what the hell, Death Metal is not good for this song. It's a classic, those Death Metal vocals spoil the whole song.

7. My Friend of Misery.
I never thought of Dark Tranquility playing Metallica, but they do. One of Metallica's darkest song, pefectly covered by this Death Metal band. Another favourite.

8. One.
This cannont be, it doen't hear like Metallica. The song is far more slow than the original. The beginning is decent, since it is the ballad part but the fastest part, where all the speed is released, sucks. It's still slow and they cut it a lot. There is no other cover for this song like Apocalyptica's, that one rules.

9. Eye of the Beholder.
In Flames does a nice job with this song. No Death Metal vocals! Even though they play Death Metal, the vocals are "clean"... reminds me Opeth.

10. Welcome Home (Sanitarium).
Thunderstone's turn. Not bad at all, enjoyable although there better covers for this song.

11. The Memory Remains.
Skip this song, this doesn't deserve to be in this album. First of all... it's too techno, although the disc have been presenting Metallica's classics, the original is far from this cover. Horrible, too much face paint and none quality.

12. Wherever I May Roam.
A powerful song, even though it is a little bit slow. But where's the intro? It goes directly to the "presentation of the song"; anyway, good song.

13. Damage Inc.
An excellent song for closing this album. Tankard is a great Thrash Metal band and the song is way to good. It presents a cool ending with a BURP, definetely Tankard.

This is it, now go and listen the album. Those Blackest tributes are garbage, better go for this one or Metallic Attack.

5 out of 5 stars Great C.D. For The Everyday Metallica Fan.......2004-12-16

This compilation of songs is phenominal. Truly some of the best Metallica songs ever. On Such tracks as Seek & Destroy, Phantom Lord, Fade To Black, Master Of Puppets, One, and many more. The bands on album are also great. Bands like Anthrax, Destruction, Crematory, Thunderstone, In Flames, are extraordinary. They remind me of a young Metallica.

4 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!, but WHY "The Memory Remains"???????.......2003-12-28

I usually don't buy tribute albums, most of em suck 90 percent of the time, but I had a gift certificate to Borders and I saw this while browsing around- I really like all of the bands on here so I decided to why not give it a try- WOW! This is one of the best tribute albums EVER! Great pre-Black Album classics like "Seek & Destroy", "Damage Inc", and of course "One" and "Master of Puppets" done amazingly by In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemey, and other great bands from the Nuclear Blast label.

The only reason I had to give it 4 stars was because of "The Memory Remains"- wtf???? why waste a track with THAT awful song-where's "Creeping Death" or "For Whom the Bell Tolls"???? also there IS one black album song.. "Wherever I May Roam",, but that's ok.. that's one of the more tolerable black album songs I guess...

Pick this up if you are a metalhead, THIS is the REAL Metallica tribute, unlike that God-forsaken "MTV Icon"....

I have also heard that this label also has an Iron Maiden tribute album called "Tribute to the Beast"- if they can do a Metallica tribute this good,, my mouth is watering thinking about what the Maiden tribute will sound like!!!! must find that... must find that....

5 out of 5 stars A tribute album that gets my salute.......2003-12-09

For those of you that are weary about buying this CD because you are thinking this is going to be another garbage tribute album by bar bands, don't be because these are top-notch metal bands with the talent to cover these classic Metallica tunes yet putting there own twist on the songs. Though you may not recognize some of the groups, don't worry, that's because they are European metal masters (except for one group). They are very popular over there but have yet to make it to the states. Now I will go over every song. For some reason, the version I have only had 13 tracks and some are different fromt he tracklisting amazon provides. I assume Nuclear Blast either changed the tracklisting before release.

01. PRIMAL FEAR - SEEK & DESTROY
This German metal band gives a pretty standard rendition of the Kill 'Em All classic. Nothing really different but they do a good job covering it.

02. THERION - FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE
A very unique cover from the Swedish death metal band. The track starts off with keyboards, but then turns into an all out metal assault. The vocalist sings normally for most of the song, but when it comes to the chours "fight fire with fire", its high pitched death metal vocals baby! One of the standout tracks!

03. DESTRUCTION - WHIPLASH
This German thrash band gives my favorite cover on the CD. This crazy band actually speeds up the song and makes it like a Nuclear Explosion. I love when they come to the lyric "We're Metallica" and they say "We're Not Metallica". It made me chuckle.

04. ANTHRAX - PHANTOM LORD
The only American band on this CD, but what's also strange is that these guys were among the strong metal forces right alongside Metallica inthe 80's. Would Metallica do a song for an Anthrax tribute? I think not. Anthrax rules! And so does this cover!

05. SONATA ARCTICA - FADE TO BLACK
A softer version of the classic Metallica ballad from this Finnish band with some really awsome singing vocals. Good job!

06. BURDEN OF GRIEF - MASTER OF PUPPETS
Master of Puppets done death metal style! Totally kick @ss! This German band does a great job covering the ENTIRE song!

07. DARK TRANQUILITY - MY FRIEND OF MISERY
My second favorite cover after Destructions rendition of Whiplash. This Swedish band makes there staple on this dark classid with some awsome death metal vocals.

08. CREMATORY - ONE
An odd cover by the German gothic masters. Portrays odd normal singing vocals mixed with odd Death Metal vocals.

09. IN FLAMES - EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
This Eurpean melodic Death Metal band is actually becoming popular in the U.S., but In Flames fans will be surprised that there is no Death Metal vocals on this track. This was recorded with In Flames original singer before they went Death Metal. It still is a very good cover.

10. THUNDERSTONE - WELCOME HOME (SANITARIUM)
I'm not real big ont his cover. It's alright, but nothing spactacular. There are many better covers before this.

11. THE KOVENANT - THE MEMORY REMAINS
This track doesn't fit along with the others on this disc not just because its a newer Metallica song, but also that its more techno. This was not a good cover and by far is the weakest track on this disc. Apparently I'm just not a fan of this band from Norway that loves to use facepaint

12. SINNNER - WHEREVER I MAY ROAM
A good cover from the german metal band that contains members of Saxon. Nothing really different from the Metallica original, but great none-the-less

13. TANKARD - DAMAGE INC.
This German band that loves alcohol more than music does a credable job covering this Master of Puppets signature song. I really liked how they ended the song with a "burp".

Metallica fans will finally be happy with a tribute disk. No more "Blackest Album" garbage. Nuclear Assault delivers the real thing here. Don't hesitate to buy this Disc!

4 out of 5 stars Really Good for a Tribute Album.......2003-11-22

This album is really good, and has some Nuclear Blast heavyweights on here(Anthrax, Therion, Sonata Arctica, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity) The only griefs I had with this tribute was the order, as in the energy on this album starts really ferocious, and then bottoms out kind of pre-maturely. Aside from the order, the other grief was a couple of songs that really didn't fit. Die Krupp's didn't belong with the rest of the album, and would have been better staying in the "Blackest Album", an industrial metallica tribute album. I like Apocalyptica, but it just didn't belong with the rest of the album, as well.
