3 out of 5 stars OK Music, Bad production.......2005-06-14

I used to like the Persecution Mania cassette back in the 80s so I decided to try this compilation just to see what Sodom was all about. Seems like the band was really good on Persecution Mania and Agent Orange, the tracks from those albums are great. I wasn't too crazy about their earlier or later stuff. I was a little disappointed in the production of the CD. The sound doesn't seem right, some songs have lower volume, some have no bass, etc. Also, they didn't choose the best versions of some of the best songs, for example, they used the original version of Outbreak of Evil which is terrible, the version from Persecution Mania is much better. Same with my Bombenhagel, they used a live version which is not bad but the Persecution Mania version is much better. A big highlight of the compilation is that they start it up with Tire and Red, that is Sodom at their best. If you are not a hardcore Sodom fan just go and get Persecution Mania and Agent Orange or get their latest M-16.

4 out of 5 stars Sodom Thrash Masters.......2003-09-24

This double album really showcases a lot of Sodoms music throughout their lenghty career, It has songs from their pure Thrash period, taking songs from their brilliant albums "Persecution Mania" and "Agent Orange". In my opinion this is Sodom at its creative peak, composing dark and brutal riffs. Later on, Sodom, changed their style, to a more hardcore sound, songs like "Jabba the Hut" and "Gommorah" are clearly different then anything on the before mentioned albums. Still, I give this album only 4 stars because I feel that the label, didint do this legendary band justice, the booklet inside the cd is a huge letdown. There are some pictures and stuff but no History of the band, no guest musician writing about how influential Sodom was to the thrash scene. And second of all, something that drives me crazy, the second cd, the track listing is messed up, it seems that they couldnt even take the time to make sure the track list consisted with the actual music on the album. Sodom never really hit it big here in the USA, but in Asia, South America, and ofcourse Europe, Sodom are Gods. Its a good album for someone wanting to see what Sodom is all about, also, if you like Sodom, check out bands like Iron Angel , Kreator and obviously Destruction.

5 out of 5 stars They aren't kidding about the "Best of".......2002-03-08

This album is the best compilation of speed/thrash I've ever heard, and, unlike many other bands, Sodom isn't another obnoxious satanist group. The album is pumped chock full of speed and power, and begins to lack only in the last few tracks of the second disc. Other than a printing error on the case (the first two tracks of the second disc are actually on the first disc), the whole thing looks awesome. The ominous Deathsquad Trooper on the cover represents the album well...hard core.

5 out of 5 stars a great overview of a great band's career.......2000-06-14

Ten Black Years includes some of the highlights of Sodom's career, which are many. Considering that much of the band's 90's output is still unavailable in the U.S. except as expensive imports, American Sodom fans who missed everything between Agent Orange and Code Red can get quite a sampling with this double-disc set.
