This 1970 double LP proved to be about as good an approximation of the singular methodology of a Doors concert as was possible in the pre-video era. Alternately short and to the point (like the AM radio hits "Touch Me," "People Are Strange," and "Hello, I Love You," among those featured here) and long and meandering (like such open-ended excursions as "When the Music's Over" and "The Celebration of the Lizard"), Morrison and crew displayed the full slate of their estimable powers as both musicians and motivators--continuing to daringly break through whatever sonic and thematic doors they opened. --Billy Altman
Customer Reviews:
For me it was everything.......2007-06-22
There isn't really much I can honestly add to the comments here and the many reviews that exist of this album. What I can say though is that it is a true testimony of the quality and depth of the Doors' music on many levels, even the most unimaginable.
As an 8 year old in 1978, I liked the usual commmercial music you heard on the radio in those days in the US: Bee Gees, Village People, Stevie Wonder, etc.. Then one day my older cousin left this tape at my house and I found it. I put it my portable cassette recorder (the rectangular, mono ones with the extractable handle) and my life changed. I had no idea what Jim symbolized in popular culture, what he was talking about, nothing. All I knew was that it somehow spoke to me in a way I would only find out when I was old enough to grasp what the Doors message was. So I obviously would recommend this album to anyone and everyone. By the way, I think the performance is way above average considerinfìg that Jim was often too wasted to sing, and the sound is great, almost studio-like.
great for longtime fans not beginners.......2007-05-12
if your a beginner fan on the doors then this album isnt really for you it dosent include a lot of the common songs. but if your a longtime fan than this albums for you great live stuff here though jim morrison sounds a little stoned on some of this like on the song, 'Wake Up', or on Back door man other than that its a great album sound quality is the best for live stuff, also i'd like to say that on the song, 'Soul Kitchen', the band must of been pretty stoned cause it sounds all weird the organ and everything it dosent sound right anyway go out and buy this if your the guy who needs all the doors and yes this is......ABSOUTLEY LIVE!!!!
absolutely brilliant concert registration.......2007-01-26
The one and only official live-album released in between "Morrison Hotel" and "L.A. Woman" albums, this shows the Doors at it very best. They were not a middle of the roadband who played each night a greatest hits show but varied their setlist as often as possible and did not only play wellknown songs of their albums, on the contrary. Looking on the songlist on this album it shows more songs outside their studioalbums. To begin with a dynamite McDaniel classic "Who Do You Love" with the same sometimes weird lyrics as James Morrison used to write, to a medley which has "Loves Hides", a short but interesting track, not available on any or the regular albums. The same goes for the beautiful "Universal Mind", reminiscent of the "Waiting for the Sun" album, and the even stunning "Build Me a Woman", which is more from "The Doors" album but nevertheless doesn't appear on any of them. Further comes "The Celebration of the Lizard" in its long form as it is used to be but neither on any album released (that is until the 2003 compilation "Legacy" and the 2006 box "Perception"), from which the lyrics are printed inside the "Waitin for the Sun" album because of the song "Not to touch the Earth" which is a part of the mentioned longtrack, overall an outstanding performance (comparible to that on "The Doors Box" set, the "Live in New York" disc) and - oh surprise - the Ray Manzarek sung Willy Dixon classic "Close to You" (on the "In Concert" package switched to the second disc), somewhat comparible to the L.A.Woman outtake "(If You Need Meat) Don't Go Further", also by Dixon and sung by Manzarek. And last but not least "Dead Cats, Dead Rats", which preludes a heavy metal version of "Break on Through (To the other side)" with stunning guitar work by Robbie Krieger. Closer "Soul Kitchen" is also fabulous. The midsection is dominated by a long version of "When the Music is over", the audience was clearly having trouble with something or someone and the singer shows his annoyance and treathens to stop the show or play only one repeating note by Manzarek, with which the audience give in and the song evolves to a real eruption. Many acts have released timeless live recordings, this is definite one of them. Superb, it really gives you an idea how a Doors performance could have been and gives you the feeling that you were there. Highly recommended!
Get 'In Concert' Instead.......2006-01-21
Do not buy this CD "Absolutely Live" by the Doors. Pay the extra few dollars more & get the double CD, "In Concert" instead. The reason, the "In Concert" double disk has the live albums "Absolutely Live," "Alive She Cried" & "Live At The Hollywood Bowl" all in one package with one exception: an unreleased live version of 'The End' (the main reason to get that double disk just for that song alone!). Get it & it'll be money worth spent.
Great, But Could Have Been Better.......2006-01-04
While this album is a lot better than the EP "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" it's obvious that they left a few songs out. They have only a few songs from actual albums (they don't even have Light My Fire) and then segments from Celebration of the Lizard. This is a fantastic album if you ignore the previous detail about the song choices; Morrison's vocals are outstanding. I recently saw Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger live with their new band Riders on the Storm and they still kick a$$.
I'm also pretty sure that this is merely the first disc of the double live album.
1. House Announcer-N/A-Kind of funny. It's a guy telling the audience to have people go back to their seats or there's no show. Just kind of interesting.
2. Who Do You Love-4/5-This song is OK, but it's obvious why The Doors never laid it down on album.
3. Alabama Song-5/5-It's a medley, but it's great. Well done.
4. Backdoor Man-5/5-A little extra guitar solo by Robbie Krieger. This is a great song...Obviously. Another damn medley.
5. Love Hides-5/5-This song was never put on album and I'm not sure why. The lyrics to this song kick major a$$.
6. Five to One-5/5-A little longer than the studio version; Morrison improvs on a few things here and it's really cool.
7. Build Me a Woman-5/5-Yet another song never put on album. I highly doubt if Morrison ever had the "poontang blues." A great guitar solo is in this I might add.
8. When the Music's Over-5/5-One of their best songs. Jim Morrison always kicked a$$ at performing this song. During speaking parts not included in the studio version of the song he shows a really good sense of humor.
9. Close to You-5/5-Ray Manzarek on vocals and he's pretty good. I saw Manzarek sing "Alabama Song" with Riders on the Storm.
10. Universal Mind-5/5-I was doing time in a universal mind. This is yet another song never put on album; But lyrically it's really great.
11. Petition the Lord With Prayer-5/5-Funny. Morrison screaming about petitioning the lord with prayer.
12. Dead Cats, Dead Rats-5/5-It's more of a poem than an actual song and it's played with the beat from Break on Through.
13. Break on Through #2-5/5-Not sure why it's called Break on Through #2, it's the same song as just "Break on Through".
CELEBRATION OF THE LIZARD
14. Lions in the Street-5/5-Very cool. The beginning of the long poem.
15. Wake Up-5/5-Then it gets creepy.
16. A Little Game-5/5-"I want to play a little game. This is a game called go insane"...Or something like that.
17. The Hill Dwellers-5/5-Daughters smug with s**en eyes in their nipples. Lines just don't get much better than that.
18. Not To Touch the Earth-5/5-Featured on "Waiting for the Sun". This is an awesome song apart from Celebration. It's really great, really catchy.
19. Names of the Kingdom-5/5-I'm pretty sure this is not a part of COTL. It's great; Morrison speaks in a very sensual voice that's really cool.
20. The Palace of Exile-5/5-It's only like 46 seconds long, but then the crowd chants more which stretches it to a little over two minutes. What Morrison does say is very indian-like.
21. Soul Kitchen-5/5-Morrison's voice sounds a lot different then on the studio version; more tired and sensual. The song is exteneded to about 7 minutes, but it's really good.

EDIT IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-18
Please edit this album again with the complete songlist. All Rod Stewart's fans need GUESS I'LL ALWAYS LOVE AND THE GREAT PRETENDER. WARNER BROS please put the batteries on and make an edition that really worth it.
extraordinary concert.......2006-02-27
one of the few artists which you should seriously consider to have a live-cd is for sure Rod, he does not sing the songs in the same way that they are recorded on the albums, he puts something special in everyone of their performances, so you'll get a diferent idea of the songs you like the most when you hear Rod adding some salt and pepper, and maybe chili to them.
Don't forget this is a completely liverecorded album!
The reason that I don't put five stars to this album is becuase they took it off the wonderful song guess I'll always love you, which I think is a crime.
Not Really The Best Of Him Live.......2005-05-14
Rod Stewart is a great live performer, but this 1982 live album does not do him justice. Though there are some occasional shades of greatness, "Absolutely Live" falls flat for the most part.
As one reviewer pointed out, it's the first half of the album where the problems lie. Rod stumbles his way through inadequate performances of "Passion" and "Sweet Little Rock And Roller". "Hot Legs" is good but not great. "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright" and "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim") are simply horrifying.
The second half of the album is where the bright spot lies. The performance of "Young Turks" works well without the synthesized instruments and such, transforming into a barroom rocker. Rod's megahits "Maggie May" and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" sound as fresh and vibrant as ever, while "Gasoline Alley", "Sailing" and "I Don't Want To Talk About It" are emotional powerhouses. Finally, the closing "Stay With Me" with Kim Carnes and Tina Turner is the best song on the whole album. the only bad song here is "Tear It Up".
Overall, this album would make a good addition to your Rod collection, but by no means is this an essential purchase. If you want to see a truly great Rod Stewart concert", get the "Storytellers", "It Had To Be You..." and "...Royal Albert Hall" dvds. Those are truly great concerts.
Guess, I'll Always Love You.......2005-03-10
I saw this tour. I bought this album when it was first released and have never stopped listening to it over the years. However, I must say that omitting GUESS, I'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU is a sin. Warner Brothers needs to get off thier duff and remaster and release this album with the 2 songs they chopped in order to fit this onto one CD. What amazes me even more is with all the box sets, and best ofs, these two songs still remain unavailable. This isn't some small time artist that only put out a few albums in the seventies. This is Rod the mod, himself. Legend, rock and roll master. Please reissue this as Nazareth did with their live album, Snaz.
Middling Representative Of Rod Live.......2004-12-18
Rod Stewart is one of the greatest performers of our time. He has an amazing voice, makes excellent songs and is great in concert. Unfortunately, the record companies don't seem to know how to make a great Rod Stewart live album. 1982's "Absolutely Live" was the first attempt to capture the exhuberant energy of Rod Stewart in concert. It falls short of the mark, but is still worth a listen.
I might as well start with the low points. Rod warbles his way through "Passion" and "Sweet Little Rock And Roller". He gives a very enjoyable version of "Hot Legs", yet like one reviewer said, it was probably better when he did it on his 1988 tour. "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)" and "You're In My Heart" are passable but are more or less pale imitators of the classic studio versions.
It's the second half of the album, starting with "Young Turks" (which works surprisingly well without the synthesizers). From then on, Rod brings down the house with awesome versions of "Gasoline Alley", "Maggie Mae", "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy", "Sailing", "I Don't Want To Talk About It" and a raucous "Stay With Me" done with Kim Carnes and Rod's good friend Tina Turner. The only track I don't really listen to that often is "Tear It Up".
I wouldn't say this is an essential Rod Stewart album. However, that doesn't mean you should avoid it all costs. It has some great moments on it. But like I said, it isn't the best representation of him live. For a better live album, get "Unplugged...And Seated". Still, this one is worth a listen once in a while.

Not good enough.......2004-05-05
The performance of the songs is great as usuall, but the girl isnt as good as Bobby is, i think she is a little bit nervious(africa, hold the line) and she didnt make her best.
Besides, Simon plays better in the annivesary album, the drums are pretty important in TOTO.
If you are looking for a nice live version of "I ll be over you" you should buy this, but NOT if you want nice vesrsions of "Georgy Porgy" and "99".Those really sucks¡

A Frustrating Release.......2002-09-05
This CD should get 5 stars. The music is excellent, the songs are as good as they ever were and the crowd atmosphere works its way very easily into the living room.
This CD should get 1 star. The song selection is virtually identical to the "Past To Present" compilation, there's 83 minutes spread very thinly over two discs, and it was taken from a show lasting around 3 hours.
So I give it the in between grade of 3 stars. But really, this CD has no use for anybody...1999s "Livefields" is the essential live TOTO album. Casual fans might want live versions of some of the better known songs ( most of which are not on "Livefields"), but they're unlikely to want to shell out for a double disc that could almost fit onto a single disc. If this had included more of the songs that were played that night ("I'll Supply The Love", "If It's The Last Night", "Angel Don't Cry", "Never Enough" etc, etc) then this could have been a great release. As it is any interest left in it beyond the inclusion of a fine cover of "With A Little Help From My Friends" is the documentary value of hearing Simon Phillips drumming with the band shortly before he became a full band member.
If you have a chance to pick this album up cheaply, then you should. However nobody but the most ardent die-hard fan should actively bother to seek it out - you'll only be frustrated by the thought of what it could have been.
At Last.......2000-06-21
At last Toto has been recorded live. Toto is considered by many critics, peers, and fans -including myself- to be one of the best live bands ever. The original line-up was quite possibly the tightest band ever. The new line-up is still well above average. The cd opens up with the cut "Hydra". It's nice to have a live version of the song but without Bobby Kimball's incredible vocals it just doesn't quite sound the same. Actually, that is the only fault of the cd... the vocal parts of Kimball being handled by a female vocalist on the tracks "Rosanna" and "Africa". The remainder of the cd is superb. If it were not for the crowd noise and applause you wouldn't know it wasn't a studio recording. These guys are hot. Paich,Lukather,Porcaro, and Phillips are a tour de force on this album. Highlights are the jazzy "Don't Stop Me Now" and "Georgy Porgy" with an interesrting variation on the solo by Lukather. "Kingdom of Desire" and "Don't Chain My Heart" sound a little flat but are still worth the listen. Overall this is a 4 & 1/2 star album. A must have for all Toto fans and as close to being in the front row as you're probably going to get now that the band is touring almost exclusivly in Europe. Red Hot Buy!

Like an old friend comes home........2000-07-04
I've been into the ARA since "Too Stuffed To Jump" in the early "70s. I have every vinyl album and have been waiting for something, anything from them on CD. I hope this sells well to let the company know some of us can't wait. "Live" is a compilation of some of their good stuff, but they neglected to include "Dancing The Night Away", which I consider their signature song. Regardless, Russell Smith and the band are as good on this CD as when I saw them at the Palamino Club in West Hollywood in the early '80s. I hesitate to group them, but Country, Blues, Boogie, R&R all fit. Smith's guitar, voice, writing and singing are all true to form and brought a tear to my eye when "The End Is Not In Sight" began the to play. Although their catalog of records is a better choice, this is a very good example of ARA music. Highly recommend.

The Perry's CD.......2003-02-27
I have ordered the Video that goes along with my CD. I hope it gets here soon! I love the Perry's. They are so AWESOME! I have saw them in person so many time. They are always a blessing to see and to hear. If you are thinking of getting any The Perry's music.. DO IT You won't go wrong unless you decide not to.
Absolutely positively awesome!.......2000-10-16
After having seen a video on a local gospel music program here in Sylacauga, I had to dash out and purchase that CD. I was blown away by "I'm Still Amazed." It has been a bleesing to me in my daily walk and in my work as outreach/evangelism director at my church.
The vocal range of Nicole Watts, whom I hate to see leave, is unbelieveable. She gave me chills with "Praise God, It's Settled, I'm Saved." Tracy Stuffel is very entertaining as the spokesperson for the group and brings some light-hearted fun to the introduction of the songs on the CD. David Hill has a gorgeous tenor voice - he sings like an angel.
All in all, this is a very, very, very good CD. I have played mine so many times that I'm going to have to buy another - one for my car and one for my house. I just can't get enough of it. If you have any doubts about your relationship with the Lord, listening to the selections on this CD and hearing the beautiful blend of voices as they praise God, you will no longer doubt - just listen to "I'm Still Amazed," "Oh the Glory Did Roll," "Praise God, It's Settled, I'm Saved," then close it out with "I Will Pray for You" which is a slow tempo prayerful number. I look forward to hearing more from the Perry's SOON - even without Nicole.
live southern gospel at its best.......2000-07-13
this is one of the best live southern gospel albums i've heard in years and rate it second only tothe hinson's live album made in the 80's . the 2,3,8,9,12,are great and the number10 song is the top song in the nation this month. the soprano singer is my favorite singer in the industry.

Customer Reviews:
Even better with a bonus track.......2005-12-31
An excellent live album, with some songs surpassing the original version. Be sure not to miss the hidden track on 12, at 9.20 -- a different and beautiful version of "Dance With Me".
I've been following Alphaville since the early '80's, when I'd catch them on the legendary WLIR. I lost track of the band for many years, largely because they were so hard to find. Then a fateful trip to Warsaw, where I found their first album on CD. Thanks to the internet -- and amazon, I'm enjoying catching up on what I missed.
alphaville is incredible.......2004-07-19
alphaville is one of my 5 favourite bands, and both the vocals and the music are amazing. This CD is a different form to savour your favourite songs
An Outstanding Album....!.......2003-04-16
I have been a devoted fan of Alphaville since they began and must say that it is a treat to have all favourites together on one album. I agree with Adrian Ramundo that the best track on this album is without a doubt the hidden track (no 12). Overall the fact that this is a live performance captured on CD, rather than a studio-recording is testament that Alphaville is all about raw talent and brilliance! The lyrics are all captivating and deep. Each song has a melody, unlike mainstream music of today. This CD is one that never leaves my car and I never get tired of playing this album, over and over again. Just buy it - you will never regret it!
Just Get On And Do Another Studio Album.......2003-02-02
I am an Alphaville fan but just found this to be a re-hashing of old material. This band already has two 'best of' albums and should concentrate on new material rather than a live album. If their hearts were truly in this project they would have performed many more songs, they have such a large catelogue to choose from. If Depeche Mode could do a double CD after only 6 years, why can't Alphaville after all this time?

Repackaged Live Doors.......2003-12-04
Just to let you know that this "twofer" is exactly the same as the "Absolutely Live" & "Live In Hollywood" you probably already have. The only difference is a cardboard sheath to hold the two cd cases together. I was hoping maybe it would be two cds in one slimline double case & there might be different artwork (especially the original cover for "Absolutely..."), but oh well. You could probably assume the same for "Morrison Hotel/L A Woman, & "the Doors/Strange Days". The three star review is just a warning for fans who don't want to collect "absolutely" everything.

Customer Reviews:
Two Albums for the price of one.......2005-07-15
I was very lucky to pick this limited edition double album. The Aquareus show is very hard to find, and not only that both these albums have gone out of print. I found that these two CD's were pressed in 2002 so the sound is nice and crisp enough for my ears.Every song was aparently digitally mastered for the best sound quality, so this album shouldn't be over looked unless you have these on record. I payed about 22 bucks for this gem of a set. What gets me is In Concert is more expensive than this set i guess it's better. I actually had a chance to get In Concert, but said screw it this one is better. Anyways If you want something you can listen to for atleast two hours get the Doors box set that was released here in America in 1997 and really I wouldn't pass that one up it's also very sought after by fans. I still can't believe that I found this set. Get this if your on a low budget or just someone that is just starting to listen to The Doors and want to hear a great live performance.
