This is it?.......2006-09-20
Okay, all the songs on here are fantastic. Shimmer is one of my favorite songs of all time. But a band this good could only come up with 11 songs to put on a best of. This is a little weak. Million Miles didn't even make it. I'd recomend either buying all there c.d.'s, or wait for a couple more albums and a larger collection of "Best of"s

The Best Of Fuel (1998-2003, released 2005.)
INTRODUCTION:
One of the better modern rock groups of the last few years has been Fuel. The group made a sound all their own for themselves. The group was able to make themselves more commercially-appealing than many of these other acts by creating a sound that was the happy medium between alternative/grunge rock and pop-oriented rock. What resulted was an unforgettable sound for the ages that still remains popular - and with good reason. Despite the band's career still being fairly new, they have released a Best Of compilation. Read on and see how the band's compilation measures up!
OVERVIEW:
Fuel released their Best Of compilation on December 13, 2005. The group took ten songs from their three major label studio albums - Sunburn, Something Like Human, and Natural Selection. The compilation covers the era from 1998-2003, spanning those three albums. Tracklist features Hemorrhage (In My Hands), Won't Back Down (Bring You Hell Mix), Shimmer, Bad Day, Last Time, Falls On Me, Jesus Or A Gun, Sunburn, Bittersweet, Innocent, and Quarter.
REVIEW:
I LOVE Fuel. These guys are definitely one of the finest rock acts to come around in a long time, and I'm glad to see that their popularity is still fairly high. The only problem? These guys weren't quite ready to release a Best Of yet. The group really needed to wait after one more studio release. Or if nothing else, they should have tapped into their back catalogue a little more extensively. Pretty much all you get here is ten tracks from the band's three major-label studio albums. The band's big hits range from the soft and melodic (Hemorrhage In My Hands) to the poppy (Bad Day), from stuff that's a cross between hard and melodic (Bittersweet, Innocent) right down to stuff that straight up rocks (Jesus Or A Gun.) Disappointingly, there are no new songs, live, songs, rare tracks, non-album cuts, B-Sides, or anything like that. I was also disappointed to see nothing from the group's pre-major label stuff (but this may be due to rights issues.) On another issue, the songs aren't in chronological order. Not a big deal, but it's annoying. This is a pretty generic Best Of, to say the least. Casual fans will appreciate having all of the big radio hits thus far in one place, but big fans will find nothing new here and just should stick to the studio album catalogue. The band only has THREE albums, after all (and they've been re-released as Deluxe Editions with bonus tracks, making them all the more an obvious choice.)
OVERALL:
Overall, I think the general view here is simple enough. I have to recommend getting the studio albums, since the band only has three of them. If all you want is the radio hits, and that's it, then this compilation should suit you well. I only wish the band would have held off on releasing a compilation until after one more studio album, and that they'd tapped more into their back/rare catalogue. Final verdict? A good compilation, but not great by any means. It delivers what it promises - nothing less, nothing more.
EDITION NOTES:
This compilation is a recent release, and you're not going to have any trouble finding it in any major retailer of music compact discs.
A Complete Collection: 1998-2004.......2006-03-30
It may seem a little pre-mature for a band with only 3 albums to release a "best of" collection...but my guess is that this CD was released either to fulfill a contract obligation, or because of the fact that Fuel's lead singer recently left the band (though the group intends to continue on) and this is their way of closing a chapter in their career.
From 1998-2004, this CD contains just about every song that Fuel released as a single. From their first album, there are popular songs like "Shimmer" and "Sunburn" and the lesser known songs like "Jesus Or A Gun" and "Bittersweet". Then the group's second album is well represented with "Hemorrage In My Hands", "Bad Day", "Innocent" and "Last Time". Finally, there are songs from the group's final album with their original singer, such as "Falls On Me", "Won't Back Down" and "Quarter". This collection contains no new songs or unreleased songs (so it's strictly for the casual fan). The only song this CD is missing is "Million Miles" from the 3rd album, but that single didn't become very popular so I guess it can be over-looked.
As a fan who owns and loves all 3 of Fuel's albums, I can tell you that if you enjoy this collection all the way through, you should seriously consider picking up each of their albums. The group hasn't written a bad song once in their career, and some of their best stuff never even became a hit. But if you only need a few of their hits, then this collection has it all!
Very good collection of best songs.......2006-02-28
Most people are questioning why the label would put out a Best of Fuel in 2005. I discovered this CD two months after its release. But it contains some of their best rock. Even though they had to compete with groups like Creed, 3 Doors Down and Nickelback for chart space, they have managed to carve their own level of success too. Best songs are Hemorrage, the undeniable Shimmer which has such a buildup factor to it, Bittersweet, and already a favorite to me 3 years later, Falls on Me. The faster numbers are just as superb. I liked the one song that was played in Ben Affleck's movie Daredevil and was on the album soundtrack. It just stood out far more than the other rock songs played in the movie. Carl Bell's songwriting is quite good. His singing is just great, ranging from smooth to aggressive to soulful all within the same song. How ironic that they're originally from Tennessee, yet they recorded their first album in Pennsylvania. The band's songs have such dramatic landscapes, melodies and rhythms. I hope that they continue to make more exciting music for years to come.
Not quite ready..........2005-12-24
The content on the CD is great but I feel like this CD should have been one more studio album down the road.
It does contain their best known radio tracks but they only have 8 singles I think and then it seems like they took one non-single from each album. I know they could have thrown some live recordings, b-sides or material off their first few indie releases to make the album fuller but I really just think that they needed to wait until after their next studio album to release this with 2-3 more quality tunes which we all expect & can count on from Fuel.
Overall, it's a good CD especially for someone that is just a casual fan and enjoys the radio hits... they are all on here! For anyone that is an actual fan of the band, go buy the new Special Edition versions of their 3 studio albums for something more.

An Auger Classic!.......2007-07-28
Brian Auger's 1973 release 'Closer To It' was the record that finally introduced him to a U.S. audience and ultimately broke his career open based on the success of the AOR airplay that quickly moved him across the board from the rock charts to jazz and R&B. Barely known outside his home in Great Britain until this release, Auger had performed in a series of highly-talented aggregations(including one that featured mod rocker Rod Stewart); moving gradually from the hip underground European jazz scene into the major league headlights with his most commercial package to date. After a few key personnel shuffles, the band lineup finally solidified with Jack Mills on guitar, bassist Barry Dean and a tightly-knit rhythm section comprised of Godfrey Maclean on drums and Lennox Laington on congas and additional percussion. Multi-talented lead vocalist and musician Alex Ligertwood had been on board for some of Brian's prior works but in this instance; Auger ended up doing yeoman's work on lead vocals himself and his unique style fit perfectly into the 'mix'. Always feeling most comfortable in a working band setting; Auger produced his best sounds here; fronting a driving rhythm section with some beefy Hammond organ and various keyboards coupled with a crack progressive rock guitar/bass frontline. His energetic cover of Marvin Gaye's 'Inner City Blues' still sounds fresh today and the rest of the album virtually set the prototype for today's acid-jazz style with it's eclectic mixture of jazz, rock, funk and hip-bop. The standout track "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend" was eventually covered by American R&B sensations 'The Main Ingredient'; also providing Brian with another chart credit(both acts were, at the time, signed to the RCA label). What's most amazing though; about this record, is that it truly became a major groundbreaking effort at the time when it was originally released - but it almost wasn't released. Marketing departments back then often preferred going in a proven direction as opposed to releasing something more on the cutting edge and frequently tried to dissuade an artist from going forward. But fortunately, the radio programming scene back then was far less compartmentalized than what it is today and this disc benefitted from a more wide-open range of consumer taste in a period of time where predominantly instrumental music wasn't typically viewed(at least, not by record labels)as commercially viable except in strict jazz circles. When the listening audience responded; not only with their ears, but also with their wallets; suddenly the 'suits' began to 'get with it'!! So this record truly 'crossed over' numerous musical boundaries in a way not often seen then, or even now. The sheer energy of these musical performances(most of them were 'live studio takes' as opposed to carefully constructed tracks with complementary overdubs)becomes apparent when listening to the set. It has that 'up-front' feel that is characteristic of zesty, jazz-inspired music yet it's never overbearing; with the musicians all maintaining a tight, cohesive blend. My brother and I listened to this one so often; we ended up going thru two copies on vinyl(and I bought a third copy when we split our record collection some years later - as well as the cassette tape version; which I listened to regularly while on the road during the years I traveled as a sound engineer). Now, we both own it on CD also, and it remains one of our all-time favorites! On a side note - there are currently two versions of the reissued CD available - the one that has the British released liner notes and cover graphics that comes in an expanded version(it has some alternate tracks included) - and a recently re-packaged U.S. version that features the stateside album graphics(with the blue 'express train' cover illustration)and a similar set of alternate tracks. I've checked out both versions and the first six tracks are the same program that the original album was, with a couple of unreleased(but saved)takes and an edited (45 single)version of 'Inner City Blues' tacked on. And for all of you high-fidelity audio performance types - this is one of those albums that just sounds better and better the more you turn up the volume; so be prepared to upgrade your hardware if you haven't already done so - you'll enjoy this the most when it's right 'in your face'!!
A blast from the past.......2007-03-28
After trying several times previously to purchase this CD, only to find it sold out, I am glad I finally have it. I remember this well from the 70s (as a vinyl LP), before we used the term "fusion" very extensively to describe music that is a mixture of rock and jazz.
This CD is a good blend of musical forms--primarily rock and jazz, good vocals, with a little R&B thrown in, and then stirred. Enjoy.
funky all the time.......2007-01-03
Brian Auger let himself in this one to take his funk etitude to the top. he bland it with some latin rock and bluse influenses and the result is somthing thet you will listen to over and over agein. buy it now.

Not a must have - but quality.......2007-06-20
Good quality Tull material, some quite excellent in fact. Great production-one of their best sounding recordings ever.
fabulous.......2007-05-28
ian anderson is a genius. this cd is beautiful. it's been Christmas in April.
A Christmans Album for All Seasons.......2007-05-25
A totally unexpected Christmas Album from Ian Anderson with his virtuoso flute. Great rhythm and melodic variation distinguish this from other Christmas albums on Christmas standards and new originals. Too bad the other musicians are really not up to the task that Anderson's music demands most of the time--the other musicians playing are mediocre, particularly the uninspired drummer who has nowhere near his old man's chops.
Very Enjoyable.......2007-05-17
I've been a Tull fan since the early 1970's. During that decade I saw the band in concert 3 times. Although Ian doesn't have the power/range in his vocals anymore - the music is still quite refreshing. I like the spin on the old seasonal standards and wit and charm of his own material.
The pure instumentals are still way up to my Tull standards. There's a lot of music and it's very enjoyable. This one will be on my regular play list during the holidays - or whenever!
The Beginning of the End.......2007-04-27
This album marks the beginning of the end for Jethro Tull. Not because the band is going downhill on its own, but because Ian is driving it that way forcibly.
Here is where Ian starts to replace the top-notch, virtuostic players that have always made Tull the most musical band on the face of the planet, with people like his son, James Duncan Anderson, who, forgive me for being blunt, is a hack percussionist and utterly incapable at the throne.
Now he has replaced just about everyone else (except Martin) with second rate musicians that just can't play at the level which his compositions demand. And why? to save a buck. So Ian Anderson can die a rich man.
Tosh. This album is not bad, there's some really great playing, great fun arrangements of traditional tunes, but, there are a few spots where you wince at James' playing ability... and there will be a lot more of that if this new concert lineup stays. We're going to begin to miss Doane, Andrew and John.

This album is the best I've ever heard.......2006-01-06
I was a fan of the band before I've bought Natural Selection, but since this album I can say that I'm one of the biggest fans of Fuel. Quarter and Won't Back Down are awesome rock songs, while Down Inside Of You, Falls On Me are so beautiful, when I listen to them I always think of that boy I loved so much, but unfortunately he isn't here with me.
But I can say taht their best song for me is still: Hemorrhage (In my hands).
Good Effort.......2005-10-17
Fuel had the kind of sound that you could compare to those old grunge bands like the Smashing Pumpkins, Sound Garden or even Pearl Jam.. Brett Scallions just brings that "post-grunge" edge to the band.. However, I was pleased to find Fuel experimenting with their style on this album.. It was evident right from the radio single, "Fall On Me", a melodic hard rock song..
There is a much harder bass on this CD, and for anyone who heard "Won't Back Down" off the Daredevil Soundtrack, you can expect much of a similar sound.. No more "Shimmer", no more "Bad Day", just hard riffs and strong vocals..
Standout Songs:
"Falls On Me"
"Million Miles" (My personal favorite)
"Won't Back Down"
"Running Away"
"Most Of All"
"Getting Thru?"
Worth the money, I'd recommend it to anyone who loves hard rock or grunge
OnE oF tHe BeSt BaNdS tOdAy.......2005-09-19
fuel have brought out three albums that have shocked me. Their rock, guitars and hard-hitting lyrics are all awesome in all three of these albums.Fuel are obviously one of the best bands today and will go on to prove it to the rest of the world.
More Great Fuel!.......2005-08-03
I have Something Like Human and think that Natural Selection is equally good, if not better. I really enjoy it. Fuel is the bomb. I got to hear them play live once. Very cool stuff. This album has about eight great songs on it. Definitely worth a purchase. If you like their style get Something Like Human also. You will not be disappointed.
Straying from their previous sound..........2005-06-13
So, I thought this album was very different from their first two. Their first album (Sunburn) was very catchy and relied completely on the quality of the songs, not on the guitar effects or production of the album. Their second album (Something Like Human) took the best of their first album, the catchy hooks and heart-felt lyrics and expanded them with varied guitar effects and vocals. I believe that is their strongest album.
This album, Natural Selection, I think is right on the edge (close to falling off) of what made Fuel great. I went out and bought this CD the first day it came out. After the first listen through, I knew what was different. Carl Bell (lead guitarist & songwriter) I believe got too guitar-effects happy. He delves into much more complicated solos (which are great for rock fans, but not for melody) and Brett Scallions (vocalist) has a much mellower tone and sings in a lower key for many more songs than he ever did in the first two albums. The problem with this is that that isn't what made Fuel great. Brett's melodic high-pitched vocals and Carl's catchy tunes are what made this band great.
Having said that, I enjoy this album very much, just not to the same extent as Something Like Human. I think this album is much more cohesive than their past two albums, but the singles aren't as strong. Falls On Me I think was the wrong choice for their first single. They went the way of Staind and a few other bands trying to make Falls On Me semi-anthemic and a heavier ballad. Fuel's best slower songs have been their softer ones (Shimmer, Sunburn, Hemorrhage, Innocent). Their faster songs have been the heavier ones and have done that well. I think Quarter or Down Inside Of You should have been their first single, or perhaps Die Like This. I hope their next album is a mix of their first two, back to pure melodies and not relying on effects and production.
I think my favorite songs off this album are "Down Inside Of You", "Luck", "Running Away", and "Quarter". In conclusion, if you're a hardcore Fuel fan (as I am) then get this album. If you enjoyed their first two albums, this one is worth a try. If you only really enjoyed their singles (Shimmer, Hemorrhage, Innocent, etc.) then I think this CD is not for you, although it wouldn't hurt listening to it to make sure :)

"Making Plans" to improve your CD collection,then add this one!.......2007-06-11
What have we got here then?let me tell you,31 tracks of imaginative, energetic,addictive poprock with intelligent lyrics,that's what.
The first CD I've bought for three years.And the wait was worth it,by a group that wasn't well known here,nor in the US.Great shame that.
The first song that made me sit up and notice them was "Making Plans for Nigel"(1979),that one got quite a bit of airplay over here.
Their highest chart success was "Senses Working Overtime",which reached number 10 in the UK charts.
A group that has had more then it's fair share of bad luck.
(Andy Partridge's stage fright at one point,didn't help matters.)
But a group that's always worth a listen!
~~~~
Every fan of XTC will have their own favourites,but for me standout tracks are:~
Life begins at the Hop
Making Plans for Nigel
Generals and Majors(double A side with "Don't lose your Temper",shame that track is absent from this release)
Towers of London
Sgt.Rock(Is going to help me)
Senses working Overtime
Ball and Chain
Great Fire
Love on a Farmboys Wages
Dear God
The Disappointed
The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead
~~~~
If your fed-up listening to the same old stuff in your collection,try this one.

Danger massive tweeter burn.......2006-08-24
I like the music on this collection. However the sound quality is uneven. The treble on "The Mayor Of Simpleton" for example is blistering. Not all cuts suffer from this problem so if you intend to listen to the songs back to back you will need to repeatedly adjust your eq to make things bearable.
A great overview of a band that should have been huge........2006-07-27
"Fossil Fuel: The XTC Singles 1977-92" is a a compilation of every British a-side the band released during their tenure with Virgin Records. As an introduction to the band, it provides a fine overview of their career and history and you can hear how many pieces should have been huge singles, but never were.
XTC started as a ska/punk new wave band, driving rhythms, buzzing organs (courtesy of keyboardist Barry Andrews) and skanking guitars from Andy Partridge dominated the early work. While it was a bit inconsistent (mostly due to odd vocal styles), Partridge's compositions already showed an undercurrent of wit ("Statue of Liberty") and pop hooks ("This is Pop?"). When Andrews departed to be replaced by guitarist and sometime keyboardist Dave Gregory, the band's compositions became more and more enamoured with harmony, arrangement and melody, first the compositions of bassist Colin Moulding (throbbing mechanical rocker "Making Plans for Nigel", early acoustic rumination "Ten Feet Tall") then eventually Partridge (the churning "Towers of London").
The band eventually took an unusual shift, embracing these textures even further, to the benefit of their performances and receeding the punk elements in favor of Beatles and Beach Boys inspired pop elements-- the brilliant pop hook on "Senses Working Overtime" provides a fine example of this. When they quit touring, using the studio as an instrument and compositional tool became central to their work (Moulding's delicate and lovely fantasy "Wonderland", Partridge's "Love on a Farmboy's Wages"). A pair of late '80s pop albums ("Skylarking" and "Oranges and Lemons") produced a seemingly endless series of stunning pop songs, many of which are represented here ("Grass", "Dear God", "The Mayor of Simpleton", "The Loving" are all absolutely stunning). While their last record with Virgin felt a bit overarranged to me, they still managed some great pieces ("The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead") and have remained relevent as long as they've recorded.
Literally the only complaint I can make with this is the decision to leave off the Dukes of Stratosphear (XTC's alter ego when they recorded psychedelic music) singles-- while they didn't seem to pick the best of that project for singles, it seems it should be here. Nonetheless, with the material presented in remastered sound, this is a fine collection and a worthy starting point for anyone curious about the band. Just make sure you listen all the way through as the band's evolution is dramatic.
The Definitive XTC Compilation!.......2005-09-04
This release contains EVERY single XTC released on their beloved (arf arf) Virgin Records between 1977 - 1992. From Barry's finger on "Science Friction" to the woefully withdrawn "Wrapped In Grey" single. Purposeful, but incomplete, collections prior to this (the very cool Waxworks/Beeswax set, the poorly compiled The Compact XTC, and the almost obligitory in it's existence Upsy-Daisy Assortment) are seemingly rather unnecessary next to this. It contains all of the hits, near hits, and should've-been-hits. It also contains all of the Terry Chambers singles (his last being the gently psychedelic "Wonderland"). Considering the genuine quality, quantity and diveristy of the material this would make a great introduction to XTC. And for old fans : a great collection to reflect upon the awesomeness of XTC. Highly recommended!
Not what you might expect.......2005-07-31
Some music fans seems to want to praise this band as an "undiscovered treasure" or "underrated, shoulda been stars" group. Frankly, there isn't anything all that impressive on these two discs.
And look, I LOVE British music. But I wanted hooks, memorable melodies, stylistic nods to the Beatles or the Kinks (or even Blur), some sort of British pastoral whimsy etc......there is virtually none of that here. The entire first disc is just boring - maybe if you like some of Elvis Costello's albums like "This Year's Model" and "My Aim Is True", you will find something to like here as the sound is similar - that now dated, post-punk, new-wave sound that really doesn't interest me at all. I was hoping the second disc would be more melodically interesting but it was not to be, save for a couple of songs towards the end. Even they, however, weren't THAT great.
So, I gave this band a chance......but if this is their best stuff, then I'll leave it to others. I tend to think that maybe in this case, widespread success has eluded them because they simply aren't that good. Definitely listen before you buy.

In Something Like Human, the moody and brutally emotional rock band Fuel has a solid follow-up to their platinum Sunburn disc from 1998. Produced by Ben Grosse (Filter, Vertical Horizon) and coproduced by Fuel guitarist-songwriter Carl Bell, Something Like Human picks up where Sunburn left off, both musically and emotionally. From Brett Scallions's heart-wrenching vocal performance on the CD's first single, "Hemorrhage (in My Hands)," with its mournful reflections to the "Shimmer"-like "Slow," the bleak, dark temperament that characterized Sunburn is continued. Even seemingly upbeat moments are buried deep in paranoia ("Knives") or leave a bitter taste ("Solace"). Not as dirge-heavy as Alice in Chains (though "Down" sounds like that band) or as commercially viable as Creed, Fuel nonetheless have the strong songs and melodies to make their doleful musical visions eminently memorable and quietly cool. --Katherine Turman

Not what I expected, glad I bought it..........2007-04-22
I was very hesitant to buy Something Like Human when it came out; I was never a big fan of much music during the "grunge" years or shortly after. I simply prefer music that is more fun rather than stuff that has lyrics that are about how much everything sucks. Now while the lyrics are fairly dark - they are done so with context and meaning. The "stories" of Bad Day and Innocent show this. The music also has more melody than alot of the rock that was around at the time. Brett Scallions is a very good vocalist, I really like the way he delivers the songs with emotion and power.
Song Highlights include: Last Time, Hemorrhage, Bad Day, Prove, Knives and Innocent.
Overall, Something Like Human is a very solid album with some great moments and Fuel, as a band, show their talents. Definitely worth a listen.
Ear for rock music.......2006-02-25
when i first heard hermorrhage, i really felt life was worth living, its the kind of music you never get tired of following the rhythm, i doubt is fuel can come up with a better track through out their entire career.
AWESOME CD.......2005-09-28
Fuel are a great band that has progressed to producing excellent albums such as "SOMETHING LIKE HUMAN". SLH has some excellent songs and is almost as good as "NATURAL SELECTION". My favorite songs on the album would have to be:
1. LAST TIME - 10/10: This song has a catchy chorus and a good beat. An excellent start to the album.
3. EMPTY SPACES - 9/10: Could be a bit faster but still an excellent song with excellent lyrics and awesome guitaring.
all the songs up to 12.
if you like the rock of nickelback or puddle of mudd then i recomended this album to you.
Great Buy.......2005-07-06
Received the CD quickly and in good condition. A few scratches but works well. Would purchase again for such good prices.
It will blow you away!.......2005-06-18
Having bought this album over four years ago, I felt I should write a review because - not surprisingly - I still listen to it quite frequently. I listen to a lot of American Alternative and this is quite possibly as heavy as it gets for me but "Something like human" is just one of a kind and one of the most precious CDs that I possess. It is not only Brett Scallions voice or the quality of the outstanding lyrics written by the guitarist but it is the combination of both, together with the amazing melodies and the power and the emotion with which Brett sings the songs that make this album so special and unique. In a time where most artists of this genre sound very similar, it is not an easy job to produce an album that actually stands out. This is so much more powerful and so much better than anything by Creed, Saliva, Staind, Nickelback or Puddle of Mudd. If you like any of these, then you are going to love this album.
The album's opening track "Last time" is one of the strongest songs of the album. It's got a really catchy tune and some great lyrics, it's the perfect opening to the album that makes you turn the song up really loud and shout along to the chorus: "This is the last time, I bleed for you!"
Some other highlights include "Hemorrhage", "Bad Day", "Solace", "Innocence". This album is the perfect mix of powerful emotional rock ballads and heavy melodic rock songs - a truly amazing album that is guaranteed to blow you away!

Phenomenal production, just gorgeous music.......2007-01-16
Rizzo is a phenomenal producer, and on this debut release, it shows. I've listened to this over and over without tiring of it a bit. Wonderfully layered, gorgeous vocals, lush harmonies, and wonderfully catchy melodies. This is simply beautiful music.
My favorite tracks are Easy Way Out, Amborella, and Travel in Time. But every cut on this album is awesome.
Put it on a high quality, 2-channel rig. Preferably planar speakers with thousands of watts of power. And turn it up LOUD.
That's good music.
very good CD.......2007-01-16
This CD is less interesting than I thought it would be, but it is a great collection of almost-ambient music that is well-produced, and the CD flows seamlessly.
Unreal music for an Unreal Tournament.......2006-12-04
I don't know of the connection, but I can remember some of the music in the game and his matches it.
Sweet eccentric sound waves in a sea of groove and soul..........2006-06-29
This album reaches the peak of many stylistic mountains, ranging from an electronic lounge of sounds to the technical beats of hip hop and funk to the sultry sounds of soul and blues with a soothing touch of ambient. With the vocal talents of outstanding artists such as Kate Havnevik and Jem alongside Rizzo's outstanding compositions, the total experience becomes a blending of contemporary art with a classic orchestration that will blow your musical mind! A must have!!
Perfect title for perfect lounge music.......2006-04-21
If you heard Carmen Rizzo for the first time and thought, "Wow, that reminds me of Conjure One" you're not the only one and you're not far off. He was the engineer on the Conjure One debut album and there are definitely similarities - the female voices over the same kind of chilled beats.
I wouldn't, however say the album is on par with Delerium ("Karma" or "Poem"), simply because the lyrics aren't as subtle or mysterious as Delerium and the voices on this album other than Kate Havnevik (Jem, Esthero...) hardly count as ethereal - I find they tend to dominate the music rather than blend and float on top of it.
Overall, the album is a good listen for those Sunday evenings at home.

If there's such a thing as a world-class bar band, the former Rolling Stones bassist's Rhythm Kings qualify. Core members Albert Lee and Terry Taylor (guitar), Georgie Fame (keyboards), Graham Bond (drums), and, of course, Wyman himself, are among the Who's Who of British blues and R&B. No wonder the grooves flow so easily on these 15 tunes, which range from boogie and Delta classics to Motown soul to disco, even including a cover of the Beatles' "Taxman" delivered as a tribute to George Harrison, who played on the previous Rhythm Kings CD, 2001's Double Bill. Some interesting song choices and compelling vocal turns provide the highlights. The first is the neglected New Orleans gem "Down Home Girl," where Fame's molasses phrasing captures the laid-back pace of idealized life in the Crescent City. Beverly Skeet ignites "Cry Baby" in tribute to Janis Joplin, who immortalized the Garnet Mimms tune. And Ray Charles gets props with three numbers from his catalog, including a live recording of "Georgia on My Mind" that's beautifully rearranged for vocals and jazz guitar--the album's most adventurous turn. Wyman says he's ending the group's 16-year run here. If that's so, Just for a Thrill is a fitting swan song. --Ted Drozdowski

What a Great CD.......2006-09-05
I first saw this CD at the local county library--had no idea Bill Wyman had ever recorded anything outside of the Stones. What a great CD-lots of great Rhythym and Blues by primarily English artists and tributes to George Harrison, Ray Charles and Janis. Terrific listening!!
What an awesome CD............2006-06-22
Didn't know what Bill was up to solo lately - heard this funked out version of "Taxman" on Blues Radio Mobile and had to find out. Got the CD - wow. Continue to be blown away, every listen. Powerful, wonderful, toe tappin', finger snappin' - the vocals, the bass, the sax, the .... everything. Get this great collection of talent and enjoy. 5 Stars. Five.
