Music From Other Lifetimes.......2007-07-28
I have been listening to Louis Hardin since 1974 when I was simultaneously introduced to MOONDOG and ALL GOOD MEN by Beaver & Krause - I think I must have used up all of my musical luck because nothing (including The Beatles, who are right up there next to God) has since resonated in me the way these two albums have. Hardin's unabashed musical honesty can be found but in two places, children and geniuses, and I think there must be a lot of both in Hardin. Each composition takes you on a different journey, if the listener has the courage to jump aboard; I always close my eyes, to be closer to the way the music was composed. I am particularly fond of his first album MOONDOG for a lot of reasons, but mostly I think because it was my introduction to a composer who has yet to meet his match, even within himself. As times change (and they inevitably will), other of his works will come to the fore and take their rightful place among the few that will always rise above all the rest.

To tell the truth, the only reason I even listened to this disc in the store is because I spotted the cover, and wondered what the hell a guy who looked like that could sound like. I had a gushing smile on my face as I realized there was real talent and expression behind Moondog's odd facade. The first album on this disc (there are two herein) is made up of more "orchestral" material like none you've ever heard before (one of these tracks "stamping Grounds" is in "The Big Lebowski". The second album is made up of a series of short "rounds"; cyclical songs with naturally repetitive compositions (think row row row your boat, or three blind mice). Due to the familiar nature of such song forms, and the unique compositions employed by Moondog, the second album is quite buoyant and joyful. This is an all around great and very familiar listening experience, and quite a timeless set of albums. Get it while you still can!

FIELDS OF YESTERDAY.......2001-07-17
Lillian Axe is and has been my all time favorite band since their "Poetic Justice" album came out in 1992. After Psychoschizophrenia (What an eye-full, eh?) I waited patiently, hoping that one day they would release a kind of going away CD or record something new. What we got was a collection of all their best stuff that was never released. So how good could a collection of B-songs possibly be from a band that was never popular anyway? Better than 99% of the stuff out there now, that's how good. Just like every other CD they released, each song from the beginning through the end is good, solid, quality hard rock and metal. The only difference on this album is there is nothing truly exceptional that stands out above the rest. And sadly, in my opinion, the best song can only be found on the Japenese version, "Thirst". "Thirst" is slightly different from the trademark Lillian Axe song, and has a sort of dark twist to it. Other highlights on the CD include "Twilight In Hell" and the wider acclaimed "For Crying Out Loud" which sounds like a cut from their Poetic Justice album. Overall this CD more than satisfies any Axe fan, and should be to the liking of any hard rock fan looking for something new. If you have never heard of this band, do yourself a favor and check this CD out just to see how good the B-music of a band you never heard of can be. Although never popular, this band still lives strongly in the hearts of those who found their music, and I bet many, if not all of us will stay true believers till the very end.
Doesn't compare to other Axe discs, but grows on you.......1999-08-21
When I first listened to "Fields of Yesterday" I have to say I wasn't impressed. The disc had some good licks, but it was easy to see why these songs did not make it on to any of the bands other albums. I think "Do it" is especially weak. It sounds like an odd blend that mixes a sped up version of 'Show a little Love," from Love & War with Ratt's "Lay it Down." But after a few spins some of the songs do begin to grow on you. I found myself singing 'Twilight in Hell" in my head the other day. Other good tracks include "Become a Monster" and "For Crying out Loud" Although "Fields" is not a classic any longtime Lillian Axe fan should check out this disc.
fantastic cd! thanks stevie for releasing this for the fans!.......1999-08-12
not their best, but it's not meant to be compared to a masterpiece such as "love+war",but I do like it better than poetic justice.this cd still had some of the raw sound from their earlier days, which is what drew me to them in the first place.definately a must for any "axe" fan...by the way..."who in the f*** is Lillian Axe?!"
Great cd from a great band.......1999-07-24
Every tunes on this cd rock. From "pulling the rat out" ,to "the last time" and with a little "Crying out loud". This is a great cd
They finally put "Monster" on a C.D. !!! - Way To Go STEVIE.......1999-07-10
I have loved Lillian Axe since they played the Thristy Whale in Chicago SEVERAL years ago. I came to know them quite well and got to share some personal thoughts on songs and life. This is by far one of their best. Maybe soon there will be an acoustic set of songs like they did while here in the "Windy City."

Truly a gift from Lillian.......2003-10-11
This album has continued to amaze me. The songs contained on this album predates my being a fan of Lillian. Though i am from Louisiana, i didn't discover Lillian until their 1987 debut. Many years later finds me lapping up everything they offer.
The darker, brooding side of the band can be heard growling from deep within on many of these songs. "Death Valley Daze" pummels you with a thunderous drum riff and pulls you by the throat into Lillian's world. A PERFECT album-starter. "Do It" is like a rallying cry to the lovelorn. "Twilight in Hell" takes us to that gloom that bubbles just under the surface of Blaze's psyche.A crunchy, raucous rocker! "For Cryin' Out Loud" takes a Freudian look at relationships. "Last Time" fits the "Love + War" genre, and laments on love lost. "Calm Before the Storm", much like a storm, rips and shreds, and takes a hard look at loss. "Pulling the Rats Out" is a tongue-in-cheek song written around a strange "nickname" for sex. "When It Rains" is a classic example of Steve Blaze's ability to touch you where you never thought you could be reached. "Daddy Long Legs" makes me long for a live show, and i'm sure the song was inspired by the road. "Blood on the Moon" reaches into the darker material that is heard in most of the "unreleased" demos that i love so much. My interpretation is a first-hand look at the end times. "Kill Me Again", another song that sounds VERY MUCH like the "Post-Psycho" demos, comes across like a sister to "Ghost of Winter" in my mind. "Become a Monster" makes me want to scream in extasy! What an utterly complete tune!
The title of this album, by the way, is from one of those unreleased demos. The song "Fields of Yesterday" is by far one of the darkest, silkiest roller coaster ride of a song you will EVER encounter!
Good, but not great like..........2001-05-20
...the true studio albums. As stated above, these songs were recorded over a period of time, and it kind of shows. There are some great songs here, but it lacks the cohesion and production of Lillian Axe's 5 star albums: Love And War, Poetic Justice and Psychoschizophrenia. The dubut album; Lillian Axe gets 4 stars. I do highly reccommend this one, but do what you can to find the rest of their out of print catalogue.

This collection of previously unreleased songs is excellent. I have to admit that Lillian Axe is my favorite band so I like most of their CD's. But, this one is a gem! If you like melodic rock, this is a must have.

ALL THE SONGS ON THIS CD ARE GREAT. I LIKE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! REALLY GOOD SONGS,VERY GOOD MUSICIANS, STEVE BLAZE RIPS! LONG LIVE THE AXE!
Lillian Axe again shows their brilliance.......2000-01-23
It seems this CD is made up of songs that were not used on the other discs, as if they weren't good enough. Yet the band proves, as they always do, that even their "B" songs are better than any band could dream of producing. "For Crying Out Loud" is already on my list of all-time favorites and I do not skip a single song on this CD. I HIGHLY recommend this disc!
