"Violence begins to mend what was broken." Boy, how he does it. Choosing not to borrow the pinky ring flash of the Underworld and but rather good old fashioned eye for eye justice, singer Randy Blythe croaks savagely though "Omerta." Backed by a healthy dose of lumbering menace, the song is sung as if by vengeance itself. Violence begetting violence is a constant on this album, both in music and word; in both personal trial and world politics. Lamb of God have show their 80's thrash roots on Ashes of the Wake by featuring solos from both Testament and Megadeth. The band plows forward taking from the new, the old, and adding their own stamp--heavy, angry, and political. --Daniel Mahon

pure metal.......2007-07-25
great music, however be careful listening in your car because youll get mad and someone will cut you off and you'll flip them off and as you fly past them you will realize that that was one of your managers at work...
Not too shabby.......2007-07-17
This album is nice with a cup of morning coffee but, remember to check out the earlier work too. Just picked up 'Burn The Preist' as well and it is some serious sh@#!
Sucks...........2007-05-20
I'm not a kid, I'm actually 17. This band does not do anything new or original for the genre of metal. Unless you consider throaty vocals an innovation. Just because Lamb of God is better than most contemporary metal bands, doesn't mean you should praise them. I say metal is dead(along with a plethora of other music genres). There are many great metal bands from the 70s - mid 90s, and I'm sure even the most diehard metalhead has yet to listen to a few. Let metal die, so we can stop misleading future generations of metalheads to listen to worse metal than they could actually be listening to.
Spectacular!.......2007-05-17
Another delicious bit of metal sustenance for you to enjoy. No two Lamb of God albums are alike, they all have its own brutal voice. If this doesn't "light the match, and spark the fire" in your metal loving soul, you are broken and need to move on. Buy it... totally worth it. Cheers!
pretty darn good album, if you ask me. .......2007-05-13
LoG are one of my favorite bands, to be honest. in fact, they're one of the bands that sparked my interest in REAL metal (not that limp bizkit, linkin park nonsense when i was in middle school) as of late. their style has been described as post-thrash and metalcore (thank God that the metalcore side of their music is dying out on this album, because i HATE metalcore!). i'm a big thrash fan, so i found this album pretty appealing.
the guitar riffs all have a thrash background to them. whether willie adler is playing the "vomit riff" in "hourglass" [...]or mark morton is pulling off that crazy solo in the title track, the guitar work is very impressive. the distortion that adler and morton use is very crushing, and will definitely make you want to start a riot, no matter where you are or what volume your audio player is at!
i also have to say that the bass is very well done, too. normally on metal records, the bass is sort of in the background and doesn't have much of a voice at all. good thing LoG turned up the bass, because i love that heavy, wall of sound feeling.
chris adler, the band's drummer, also has some nice drum grooves thrown in. every time he plays a song, i get the feeling that i'm in a warzone because the amount of double-bass he pours on in rapid succession sounds like a machine gun. this goes well with the messages of war imagery portrayed in the lyrics.
and who can forget randy blythe, the band's frontman? his hardcore snarl is harsh, brutal, and simply unforgettable. the lyrics (that i assume he's written) deal much with the current war in iraq, corruption, and social issues. the lyrical themes on this album nearly match up with metallica's on "ride the lightning," from the war and social issue point of view.
if there's one thing that this band is missing out on, it's musical variety. every song is played in drop-d tuning (groan) and the tempos all feel the same. heavy metal needs dirty, overdriven distortion, but this doesn't mean you can't slow a song down or throw in a clean interlude for once.
overall, the album is very well done. it's way better than any of that metalcore garbage that is flooding the markets these days. if you're a thrash fan and maybe looking for something new, this album's for you. cheers and have fun moshing!

Good Album, eh on the DualDisc.......2006-03-03
Don't get me wrong, I think that this album totally kicks ass. And I never had any problems playing the CD side of the DualDisc. I never tried it in 5.1, so I don't know if it cuts out like the other reviewers mention, but I do know that the videos included are nothing new. If you have their DVD Terror and Hubris, then you have absolutely no reason to buy the DualDisc. In fact, if you've even seen Terror and Hubris, then you really won't find the need to ever watch the DVD side. There's a music video on there too, but it's nothing particularly awesome. And plus this version is like 8 bucks more than the regular version. With the money you save you can almost buy the Killadelphia DVD, which is most likely way cooler than the video on this.
Music is worth 5 stars but..........2006-01-12
I cannot make the CD side of this disc play for anything. The DVD side works great, but I wish to listen to the music in something other than a DVD player.
Truly Sucks a..e.......2005-11-13
Indeed. 100% agreeable to the reviews above this sucks arse... As we cannot do half stars it gets a one..
5 stars for album, 0 for DualDisc.......2005-07-28
If you already own the album, good. Look no further then. It's not worth it to get a DualDisc. The idea of a double-sided cd doesn't sound very promising, and from I read, not very good either. If it was a cd/dvd combo where there were two separate discs, you've got something different, but both on one disc? Forget it, pass on this. Lamb Of God's a good band with a great third album, but this ain't worth it.
Butchered and Mauled.......2005-04-09
Please don't buy this thing. The CD side is fine, but the DVD side is a waste of money. The album itself is good, so just buy the CD. The 5.1 mix is crap. The vocals are really loud and stuck in the center speaker. The guitars aren't loud enough, the cymbals'll make your ears bleed and are too loud, and the rears aren't used nearly enough for music this aggressive. Worst of all, the songs are changed! "Break You"'s vocals keep speeding up and slowing down, changing pitch. Some songs have a few words removed (not cuss words), and sound effects changed. In "Now You've Got Something to Die For" everything goes silent towards the end all of a sudden, and then comes back just as suddenly, skipping a few seconds of the song. The CD side is identical to the original as is the DVD stereo, which is only 48KHz/16bit resolution (CD is 44.1/16) so it doesn't sound much better (it actually sounds worse due to a top range volume cut that Sony applies to all of its DualDisc's DVD stereo).

This is a keeper...........2006-12-31
For any Lamb of God fan, or any metal fan, or anybody with ears and the ability to hear should buy this album, it is awesome! right from the get go it tears your face off and parades around wearing it like a mask at a macabre sort of masquerade ball.... yeah. In other words this album shreds! it's pounding rhythm and insane vocals take you into a alternate plane of reality where face kicking reigns supreme.

Product Description
Estrella was Lycias last proper studio album (Empty Space was unfinished and Tripping Back Into The Broken Days was recorded and mixed as an Estraya release). The songs on Estrella were originally written in 1996 & fleshed out over a fifty show tour. Eight years later, Mike VanPortfleet has revisited the songs to remaster them using the engineering skills hes improved over this time as well as the improvements of technology to make a definitive version of the release uncompromised by the hands of others. The artwork has been restored to the original version, unaltered from the artistic vision meant to match the music.
The goal of Estrella was to mix the lush orchestral sound VanPortfleet had developed over the previous eight years that had culminated in Cold with the more up-tempo rhythmic style of Wake & the unreleased Byzantine era. Estrella also marks Tara VanFlowers move to primary vocalist & lyricist, enlarging the bands ethereal fan base. Estrella became an instant hit within the darkwave genre, but now is the time to realize its a classic that transcends genre barriers.
