Beauty & The Beast.......2006-12-02
As a fan of "opera metal" or "symphonic metal," I was pleased to find this compilation. It's got a great mix of lovely voices and just plain dirty metal.
Lacuna Coil's "Unspoken" edges into a more mainstream sound, although Cristina Scabbia's vocals are gorgeous as always. "Leader of the Rats" by Arch Enemy is screamed with an almost grating vocal, but I love the driving guitar riffs.
There are several covers on this CD, but I find them to be the least interesting cuts on the album. The Warmen's cover of Heart's "Alone" lacks the passion of the original, and Novembre's Kate Bush cover, "Cloudbursting" is downright boring, with uninspiring vocals.
My favorite track on this CD is "Razorbliss" by Flowing Tears. Helen Vogt's vocals are rich and the guitar work is great.
Even though it's got some rough spots, even the dullest tracks are still better than most of what you'll hear on the radio. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys metal and/or the power and range of the female voice.

This is supposed to be a compliation of all-girl and girl-fronted heavy metal bands, right?
Ok, there are tracks from Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, Nightwish, and The Gathering, all good female-fronted bands. But the maker of this album must not have paid much attention, because a female duet doesn't make Tiamat a female-fronted band.
And they missed quite a few other bands. Where's the track by Otep? Kittie? Tristania, who one of the three vocalists is a woman? How about Evanesence? Within Temptation? Why were these bands overlooked?
Methinks that the person who came up with this album was more eager to jump on the bandwagon than to pay attention to the scene.

Interesting collection of music videos.......2005-08-17
"Missbehaviour" is a cd/dvd collection of heavy metal bands fronted by women. I recently rented the dvd portion of the compilation. The compilation consisted of music videos by Lacuna Coil, My Ruin, The Gathering, Arch Enemy, Lullacry (two videos - one w/Tanja and the other with their former lead singer), Ram-zet, Lowemotor Corporation, and Madder Mortem. What is good about this compilation is that you get to see music videos by these aforementioned metal bands which MTV has never shown, except for the occasional Lacuna Coil.
What is not so good about this compilation is that you can tell just how dated these music videos are by the quality in the videos. While I adore Nightwish with an immense passion, their music video for "The Carpenter" was extremely cheesy by having Tarja singing in front of a blue screen (the scenery is some grassy field like in "The Sound of Music") and a carpenter. There is no shot of the rest of the band. I also don't care for the song because Tarja's vocals are drowned out by some male vocals. I never did care much for the band's music from their first album anyways. Songs are strong and bad production which shows on "The Carpenter". As much as I love Lullacry's "Touch the Flame", the video was awful. It was just a clip shot of the band on and off stage. It would have been better if the video was strictly a performance shot. Their other song "Damn You" with their old lead singer was nothing to write home about but I did like seeing what their former singer looked like. The worst music video on this dvd has to be The Gathering track which was supposed to look like it was shot in space. What it looked like was a Roger Corman movie or anything from Troma. It was bad. The only videos that worked was Lacuna Coil, My Ruin, and Arch Enemy (although I can't stand My Ruin or Arch Enemy's music) because it actually did not look dated and cheesy like the other videos.
I would have given this dvd two stars but I'm being generous here with Century Media. I would not have gotten the chance to have seen music videos by these bands on MTV's Headbanger Ball. It was nice to have the opportunity to see their videos.
