Hey, Lawrence, are U Mad???.......2007-07-30
Maybe you're too young to realize what Whitesnake was all about... a great great bluesy-hardrock-band... maybe you grew up listenting to the band in their glam era, when they attempted to a more metal oriented stuff. That wasn't too bad, but we, the real Whitesnake's fans, will always prefer the band in their original style, and "Ready An' Willing" is their very best LP ever! No fillers, great anthems and most of all it includes their biggest song ever: Fool for your loving (original version). Listen to the guitar solo, it's simple but it has tons of feeling... Steve Vai??? Nah! give me a break!
Earlier, bluesier (ie dull) version of the 'snake.......2007-01-10
With a deep love of the blues Coverdales early incarnation of Whitesnake was a radically different beast to the later hirsute version adored by US audiences in the late 80's. Knowing this and wanting to explore further I scored this album cheap - it was allegedly a classic so seemed the place to start. My verdict can be summarised as follows;
- Lots of space in the songs and arrangements (ie not much happening).
- A lot of mellow numbers of classy blues based rock 'n' roll. Note the term rock 'n' roll, not hard rock, which is an important distinction.
- Plenty of lovely vocal melodies form Coverdale. His voice changed over the years and both earlier and later versions are pretty darn cool. Regardless of what era of Whitesnake you prefer it must always be said the guy can sing.
- Fool for your Loving. A flagship song. One redone later in the bands career. Some like to argue the respective merits of the different versions but I prefer to just enjoy them both. This is the first song on the album and is ably backed up by the funkier styled Sweet Talker and the more juttering Ready An' Willing.
- Utter boredom from track 4 onwards.
Yep, you read that last point correctly. Under the delusion that his fans actually want to hear him sing the blues that's exactly what Coverdale gives them. Now it's gotta be said that anyone thinking they're gonna get anything like 1987 from this album should brace themselves for a surprise. Chunks of these tunes are so slow you can't even tap your foot to them. Though the boogine in the belly of Ain't Gonna Cry No More interspersed with keyboard sections is kinda cool, and ditto for Black & Blue.
This album gets two stars for having the always interesting Coverdale on board crooning away through pleasant enough tunes while Martin Birchs' knob job makes sure the tunes breath. Plus a third star for the cumulative coolness of the first three cuts. And the dissing of hippies in the liner notes/credits. A lovingly crafted, fairly uneventful alleged 'classic'

David Coverdale's hard rock sextet issued this piece of work in 1980. The line-up at that time included his former Deep Purple mates Ian Paice (Drums) & Jon Lord (Keyboards) in addition to Bernie Marsden (Guitar), Mick Moody (Guitar) & Neil Murray (Bass).

I get this crazy feelin'..... can you feel me baby...............2007-06-25
SWEET SATISFACTION, READY AND WILLING....... A classic album of a classic rock band, symply great with John Lord, Ian Paice..... This is the cd for you....
Good honest rock music.......2005-12-01
Ready An' Willing" is a blues rock record performed with the Whitesnake's best lineup. Along with David Coverdale, Ian Paice and Jon Lord from Deep Purple joined up with British guitarist Bernie Marsden and Mickey Moodey to produce the finest blues-rock album of 1980. This is their best album!
Highlights: Fool for your loving, Ready & Willing, Blindman and Carry your load.
If you like the MK III version of Deep Purple, you will probably like this disc as well.
Whitesnake's finest.......2003-07-27
This 1980 album was recorded seven years before Whitesnake broke through in America, having changed their sound from hard, bluesy rock n' roll to big-haired pop metal, so the version of "Fool For Your Loving" that kicks off "Ready An' Willing" is the original, not the keyboard-laden one from the 1989 MTV video.
Back in 1980 Whitesnake guitarists Bernie Marsden and Mick Moody played big, bluesy guitar riffs and short, sparse solos, Coverdale didn't yet dye his hair, and the music was raw and powerful.
The album goes from highlight to highlight: "Fool For Your Loving", the hard rocker "Sweet Talker", the superbly groovy "Ready An' Willing", the dirty, swaggering blues-rock of "Love Man", and the ballads "Carry Your Load", "Blindman" and the acoustic "Ain't Gonna Cry No More". And "Ready An' Willing" also contains one of the band's unknown gems, the funky, piano-driven R&B of "Black And Blue" which can only be found on this album.
There is certainly no need to program anything out here, and to me "Ready An' Willing" is Whitesnake's strongest album. Never again did they make an album of such consistently great music, although they did come close on occation.
Definitive Blues Rock.......2002-12-16
The cast of this CD is the true blue whitesnake. I can't think of a more defining release of the 1000+ rock releases, I have heard that defines the term "Blues Rock". This is top of the line Rock Blues. Great melodies, perfected instrumentation and Coverdale at peak performance. Don't delay if you don't have this recording in your rock collection.
Whitesnake - Ready an' Willing.......2002-03-26
Whitesnake's Ready an' Willing is one of the best of their earlier albums before the band broke through to the big time. It is also unusual in that when Geffen began reissuing the early Whitesnake album after the success of Whitesnake 1987, Ready an' Willing wasn't included in the reissues. I think it may have been because Ready an' Willing contains the original version of "Fool For Your Loving" which they used again on their 1989 album Slip Of The Tongue. At any rate, Ready an' Willing has some good songs on it, and it's worth seeking out if your a Whitesnake fan. "Blindman" is an excellent bluesy ballad. "Ain't Gonna Cry No More" is a really good sort of Zepplinesque "Ramble On" type of ballad. "Love Man" is a bluesy song where the singer boasts about his prowess with the women, but it also has kind of a sense of humor as if he knows that you know that he's exagerating. "Fool For Your Loving" and "Ready An' Willing(the song)" are two good songs that sit almost on the adjoining borders of hard rock, the blues, and disco.

Excellent sound quality. I just received this in the mail from France. A classic CD that has never sounded better. Buy this French Remaster, it is excellent. This version is much better than any of the other versions currently available.
8 Track Rocking.......2003-10-22
This...cooks. Listened to it every morning on the way to school in my best friend's old beat-up Monte Carlo with an 8 Track player and some house speakers in the back seat. This is pure British Blues Metal served up Hot 'n Nasty. And for what it's worth, this sounds nothing like their late 80's tripe, and that's a good thing.
Great Remaster of A Classic.......2003-01-27
It seems to me kind of funny that this album has very little popularity. IMHO 500 Years from now it will define white boy Metal Rock Blues, if you care to catorgise music to that level. The remaster with 4 added songs only adds to the value of this blues rock masterpiece. Every musician on this record appears to contribute to the end product. They all have notoriety in the field of English musicians and easily prove their worth with this fine recording. Check out "Company of Snakes" for more non pop Real Whitesnake.
Tony's Review of Ready an Willing.......2000-09-26
This album marks as the keystone of the old Whitesnake. Blues Metal as we called it was born into the Marsden, Moody guitars and Coverdale wailing. I like this LP because there is all the finest qualities of Deep Purple (with the exception of Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan), mixed with the blues of Marsden-Moody guitars. This CD is a MUST for any Purple-Whitesnake fan. I have heard other versions of this cd that did not have the sound quality that this music deserves, but this French remake sounds exellent! GET IT NOW!!!

This CD is great - This band is great!.......2004-09-30
I agree w/ the 2 previous reviewers. These guys are truly great. The quality of the recording is top notch & the songs are also top notch. Phil's guitar blows me away - and I've been playing 25 years. With technology these days - it's very easy to put out CD - evreybody is doing it. This disc is head & shoulders above your "average" unsigned band & as good as anything put out by the "major" labels. It just shows that record deals & fame are not always based on pure, raw talent. If it were - this band would be known all over the world.
Must Have.......2004-08-08
This CD is a "must have" whether you're into Blues or not. They are a great bunch of guys to hang out with, as well.
A Great Rockin' Blues Band!.......2004-07-30
Phil Varca & The SlamJammers are the best rockin' blues band to come along in years! They do Texas style tunes, straight out rockers....songs that just have great grooves & feel...
Phil's guitar oozes great tone. There's also alot of soul & feel in his playing. Drummer Russ Stone & bass player John Dunn are the perfect team. They lay down a solid backdrop for Phil to paint his magic. Buy this CD! Buy anything this band puts out!

Album Description
A 10-piece horn band from Upstate NY, Prime Time Funk proudly carries on the traditions of funk and rhythm and blues, while crafting its own powerful sound. "Ready and Willing", PTF's debut CD was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer, Jeff Tyzik. The CD, like the band, is a diverse-but cohesive-mix. "Ready and Willing" opens with an uptempo blues("Never Make Your Move To Soon"), then heads into the hiphop-style title track. PTF funks up Bill Withers' "Use Me", then gets down(or up, depending on your point of view)with the T.O.P.-flavored "One Life To Live". "Hoplessly In Love" brings to mind the smooth style of "Babyface", while "When You're Hot, You're Hot" was inspired by Clinton...George, that is. "Tongue Tied" is a musical journey in itself, with a stop at Graham Central Station. PTF makes Lionel Richie's "Love Will Find A Way" its own, along with the James Brown Classic,"Get Up". "Champs Elysees", inspired by the band's 2 trips to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Club in Paris, could easily fit into a "Smooth Jazz" format. Finally, PTF crosses over into Latin territory with "Fiesta De La Noche", and puts a reggae groove to Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart".
Customer Reviews:
Great Recording.......2002-06-18
I had been meaning to get this recording for a long time. The line up of musicians could not be better, and they are known to put on a great live show. I was not at all disappointed with this recording. In fact, it exceeded my expectations.
The rhythm section sets up a solid base for every cut on the album. The horn section could not be tighter. And the vocals, both lead and background, are inspiring, reminiscent of Earth, Wind & Fire's soulfulness. From a production point of view, this disc is a testament of producer Jeff Tyzik's history of making great recordings.
This recording, simply put, is good music. Amazon.com gives you the option of listening to some of the tracks before you purchase. Definitely check them out. Once you do, you'll want to buy it, I guarantee.
Silken-sound Band Backs New York Style R&B Star.......2000-08-04
Prime Time Funk lends a balletic background to funk/ska/R&B and Latino tracks with a variety of graceful and perfect sounds for cocktail parties, kicking back at home, and room for dancing--day or night. "Champs Elysees" is the most cosmopolitan track, providing the mood of moonlight on still water. Ronnie Leigh's vocals make the listener immediately caught up in his dynamic and versatile vocal richness.

Ready Willing and Able.......2002-06-23
I first met Daron Norwood at the Buckboard Saloon in Atlanta. I knew then that he had everything it takes to be a country music SUPERSTAR!!! As soon as his CD's hit the market I was at the store to buy them. I even made sure that his CD's were put on the jukebox at the bar where i was working at the time. Everyone became a fan of Daron's. I CAN'T wait for his comeback. I followed him through 3 states before and I am ready, willing and able to follow his tours again.
DARON IS THE BEST !!! ANYONE WHO HAS NOT HEARD THIS ALBUM, SHOULD BUY IT!!! I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
A True singer/songwriter.......2001-12-12
From begining to end this cd is great. I have met and become friends with Daron and his wife Kim and their family. I have never met a more engerized man. He is none stop from the time he walks on stage till he walks off. And he has written more songs {his best yet} and is working on getting that cd released. I have never found a song of his I didn't like. Good luck Daron. And wish ya'll the best
Good dog! Norwood rules!.......2000-09-09
This is just one of the best albums of any genre. I absolutely loved it. I also got a chance to hang out with Daron before one of his shows. He was a really cool guy. Norwood's self-titled debut album was great and this one proved him to have some staying power. "Bad Dog, No Biscuit" is great hard-rockin' country with humorous lyrics and a great Honky Tonk Sound. "My Girl Friday" and "When Momma Cried" show Daron's more sensitive side. "You Could Have Heard a Heartbreak" is another great driving song. The best song on the album, however, is "Break the Radio" which has the same premise as Mark Chesnutt's Bubba Shot the Jukebox, only this one is much better. How it didn't become a hit single, I'll never know. Norwood also does a nifty cover of "There'll Always Be a Honky Tonk Somewhere," which I know Randy Travis did about a decade earlier. To see Daron live is a great thing. He works the crowds and people of all ages love him. He'll play everything from Amazing Grace to Back in Black. I understand his career kind of fizzled because of a few personal problems, which I hope he has worked out. He needs to get back on the radio. Pronto. If he doesn't, I just might "Break the Radio."
bluntly, an under rated super star.......1998-07-29
i caught on to daron before he made it big. he did a free concert in cape girardeau, mo. a few years back. my kids were already used to seeing bad dog no biscuit on tv. but there is more to the artist than that one song. my girl friday was especially important to me. not only did he right the song about his daughter, he brought a pre-teen daughter on stage with him. as he sang on his knees to this girl, it gave me goosebumps- as well as many in the crowd. i think curb records should have promoted the title song more instead of ms.white's. i'm hoping for more releases and concerts soon.
