Customer Reviews:
A Few Interesting Tunes But It Wears Thin After A While.......2001-09-09
This disc would be OK for a little while at a party. Songs like I Can See Clearly Now, Red Red Wine, Murder She Wrote, and Oh Carolina are pretty cute. Clapton's cover of Knocin' On Heavens Door is decent and Tommorow People is decent. Wheres the rhythms are fairly enjoyable, the chord progressions are way too repetitive. Couple that with some nothing special lyrics as well as a few tunes(?) where the lyrics are totally indecipherable and I get the feeling of a headache comming on. A few more quality Bob Marley tunes are needed here.
good times, good times..........2001-03-16
I love reggae music, and was constantly looking for a good compilation CD with most of my favorite songs. I got this CD as a present, and I love listening to it over and over again...
Great start!.......2000-11-28
I would recommend this CD highly to anyone. Particularly, however, it would be great for a person just starting to listen to reggae music. There was a great reggae band on my cruise during Spring Break, and I became hooked. This was my first reggae CD, and although I have bought many since then it is still my favorite. Unlike many mix CD's, it has hits by famous artists.
Even new fans will probably be familiar with many of these songs. "Red red wine" is one of the best songs there is, and sounds better on this CD than on the actual UB40 CD that I own. "Wild World" and "Sweat" are songs almost everyone will know, and the others are equally memorable. This CD is great to play at an outdoor barbeque or pool party, in the car, or just about anywhere in fact! Reggae can put anyone in a great mood! Even if you have never listened to reggae, I highly recommend adding this CD to your collection.
interesting choices, I think..am not sure.......2000-09-20
because of the inclusion of Culture Club, Eric Clapton, and 10CC (the same band that gave us "I'm Not In Love", that sappy 70's hit), it is difficult for me to give this lp high praise, BUT the mixing of Marley, Jimmy Cliff, and Marcia Griffiths from the old school, with Shaggy, Maxi Priest, Shaba, Beenie Man, and Ziggy, was an inspired idea that allows the listener to get a feel for where reggae has come from and where it is going.
Skip over the 10cc, Clapton, and Culture Club (though I grudgingly accept how all 3 helped reggae in their own ways)and listen to the grooves. Not a bad lp at all.
a rockin' reggae mix combining spunk and tradition.......2000-03-11
This CD is a great compilation of classic and modern reggae. I have been a reggae fan for 15 years and this is the first quality mix I have come across. I highly recommend it to new and old reggae fans. Enjoy!

Another winning dance compilation........2003-03-01
This third entry in the Ultimate Dance Party compilation series is in my opinion, the weakest of the UDP CDs. Some of the songs don't even have the punch like most of the previous entries. Some of the dance tracks can be downright annoying instead of getting me up on the dance floor.
"Too Close" by the R&B group next is probably one of the last great R&B hits and it's a good and groovy track and in my opinion, a minor classic although some of the dirty content in the lyrics are a little much. "Walking On The Sun" by Smash Mouth is a 60s oriented rocker that definitely has a very 60s style fused with some electronic madness. As much as I like this song, it doesn't belong on here. This song I'm embarrassed to admit to liking but I still like this song and it has recovered from the `played out' syndrome. "Feel It" by Maya and The Tamperer is a harder edged song with a mix of church bell sound effects along with thumping beats. "Free" by the group Ultra Nate is a classic R&B style dance track with a 70s or early 80s feel to it and great guitars too. I think that it's a great mix of dance, R&B, rock, and pop. The version of Diana King's "Say A Little Prayer" is another great song with a somewhat early 90s sound to it. Love this track a lot. Those who like early 90s style dance music might enjoy this song. I do. The song transitions gracefully into the next song. "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" by Deborah Cox in it's original version, is a ballad but the version on here is a lot better with a much more aggressive and crashing rhythm. "It's Like That" by Run DMC is a wonderful blend of old-school hip-hop and techno that harkens back to the lighter atmosphere of hip-hops early days. It's kind of sad listening to this song now considering that the group called it quits after Jam Master Jay was murdered last year and now rap has been deprived of its pioneering group. "Cruel Summer" by Ace Of Base is a more sketchy sounding song with a darker and more laser-like mood to it with it's strobe light keyboards and eerie atmosphere. "Kiss The Rain" by Billie Myers most of us remember back in late 1997 and early 1998. This version has some occasional chord structure altering giving the song a whole different feel. "One More Night" by Amber is an unforgettable dance number with a much darker, more urban nighttime mood as opposed to the sunnier original album version. The original on her debut album "This Is Your Night" is a mid-tempo ballad, the version on here is the dance track that we're more familiar with. Both versions are great but I like the dance version better on this compilation. I love it's futuristic mood. The Razer N Grind mix of Monica's "First Night" is in my honest opinion a monotonous dance number that doesn't do a whole hell of a lot for me. Not bad but one of my least favorite tracks on the CD. "I'm Leaving" by Lisa Stanfield is another decent song but not on par with a lot of the previous remixes of her songs but still good. The Rhythm Mix of Aretha Franklin's "A Rose Is Still A Rose" is a wonderful remix of the 1998 hit of hers. Aretha's voice sounds as great even at the time of this songs heyday as it was when she recorded "R.E.S.P.E.C.T." back in the early 60s. "Backstreets Boys "Everybody" is one of only two or three songs off their debut that I cared for. This song is not too bad and one of their better songs. The Halloween video for this song was absolutely dynamite. The album kind of goes in a bit of a slump after this song ends. "Still Not A Player" by the late Big Punisher is actually quite a good and memorable modern rap song and I actually like this song and it's kind of ironic considering how much I've come to despise the state that rap has gone into since this song's heyday. Big Punisher sadly died in early 2000. "Still Not A Player" would be the last great rap song for a while. "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" by Busta Rhymes is a lightweight rap number that I think doesn't belong on this collection but on perhaps on the "Ultimate Hip Hop Party" compilation. Still it's not a bad song but I don't think it has enough punch to be considered a dance song. The final track "Shorty You Keep Playing With My Mind" by Imajin is a decent R&B hip-hop number and not a bad song but like the previous song, it doesn't belong on this collection either but on the "Ultimate Hip Hop Party" collection for the same reasons as the previous.
Overall, this is yet again, another winning platter of music from the compilation series. Quite frankly, they did a pretty good job by picking the better songs from the hip-hop and dance music genre of the late 90s. Even the songs that don't belong on here are good as well and even the hip-hop oriented songs are quite good as well, considering how far into mediocrity that the two genres have sadly gone into in the years after 1998. This is a worthy CD of getting.
Get in the Car and pop this CD in the stereo NOW!.......2002-03-13
...What FUN this album is! I Got this CD when I was just looking around in a used store and I can't believe how good the Remixes are! It includes so many of my favorite songs from that time including "Too Close" by Next, "Walking on the Sun" by Smash Mouth, "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" by Deborah Cox, "Cruel Summer" by Ace of Base, "A Rose is still a Rose" by Aretha Franklin and "Still Not A Player" by Big Punisher featuring Joe. I really love this CD. It's just fun mixing! I was a little hesitant to listen to the one's I didn't know about but some of them ended up to be my favorites! I like listening to this album in the Car with friends...it's that much fun and takes you back a few years. There is No Britney or N Sync on this album...yeah!! If you're a fan of Remixes, do yourself a favot and Buy this album or tape, pop it in the car's stero and Rock the house!!

The PEAK of the Hawkwind Trip!!! Pure Psych Magic..........2007-07-30
Every time I listen to this mind-blowing concert I can't help but come to the conclusion that "The 1999 Party" is the GREATEST recorded HAWKWIND document. Yes, even better than "Space Ritual"!!! I think the reason for this is rather simple. Whereas the "Space Ritual" album was a live celebration of tunes from the "Doremi Faso Latido" and "In Search of Space" studio LPs, "The 1999 Party" focuses on the "Hall of the Mountain Grill" LP, which for my money is the GREATEST Lemmy-era HAWKWIND studio album. The material on "Hall of the Mountain Grill" was just so emotionally powerful that it truly added another dimension to the music when performed live. If you don't believe me simply pop in "The 1999 Party" and check out the sheer emotional power of "It's So Easy". WOW!!! "The 1999 Party" documents the HAWKWIND machine running on FULL power and fueled by an obviously perfect concoction of chemicals. The recording quality of the show is AWESOME and easily as brilliant as the crystal clarity of "Space Ritual". If you are even a tentative Hawkfan this is an ESSENTIAL purchase. I guarantee you that if you drop a dose, put the headphones on, and listen to "The 1999 Party", you will enter the void!!! This may be the single greatest acid rock performance ever caught on tape. For the TOTAL "1999 Party" experience you should also pick up the MAN-"1999 Party Tour" CD which captures MAN's opening set from the Chicago Auditorium show from which the "1999 Party" was culled. HAWKWIND and MAN on the same bill....I'd give a few fingers to have been there!!! Thank the psychedelic warlords that this mind-melting music was made available to the public!!! DOGSIDNIWKWAHHTIWDSL..........
Hawkwind son los amos del Space Rock.......2006-02-28
Exquisito CD.
Hawkwind - 'The 1999 Party' (EMI International) 2-CD import.......2004-04-11
Being the HUGE Hawkfan that I am,the reason I'm giving this title a four star rating instead of five,is that I was just a TAD let down.Don't get me wrong,'The 1999 Party' is well worth picking up and keeping for life,it's just that it's not as fantastic as their 'Space Ritual',WHICH could probably never be beat anyway. Was recorded at The Chicago Auditorium on March 21,1974.A time when Hawkwind was actually doing quite well in the states.Any old fan would want '1999 Party' because it has Lemmy and Del Dettmar on it.I know several people that saw HW on this very tour. The sound mix is a 9.5 out of 10.It's a blast to listen to "Standing On The Edge","Brainbox Pollution","You Know You're Only Dreaming"(one of my all time favorites),"The Watcher"(where Lemmy sings),"You'd Better Believe It","Psychedelic Warlords" and "D-Rider".Actually,one doesn't JUST listen to a Hawkwind record, they EXPERIENCE it.Very nice space rock double disc release and a true keeper.
KICKS A$$!.......2004-03-26
I was quite unprepared the first time I heard this...lights out, lying in bed and just staring at the glow from my cd player...transported to another place. Let's just say after hearing this you can throw away your Pink Floyd cd's, really don't even bother to sell them...just throw them away.
Hawkwind Live at the Chicago Auditorium (The 1999 Party).......2000-06-29
In short, this is it - the real thing!
Hawkwind fans have long endured poorly recorded early live sets (endless re-packagings of Text of a Festival and Bring Me the Head of Yuri Gagarin), unimaginative alternate versions and re-mixes from the definitive tour (Space Ritual Vol 2, Ridicule) and numerous later era official live releases that are often very good, but always very different to the classic era of the band (Palace Springs, Live Chronicles, Live '79), all in the pursuit of the heady first rush of the Space Ritual - this landmark '73 amalgam of Bob Calvert's interstellar poetry and Dave Brock's grinding tunes was thankfully captured on a double album, which has recently been re-issued by EMI UK with the original encore restored, and it remains the band's most significant release.
Also from EMI UK comes Live at the Chicago Auditorium (The 1999 Party), which was actually recorded in March 1974, and it is the first Hawkwind live album ever (official, semi-official, bootleg or just straight off the back of Dave Anderson's truck) that might be considered as in the same league as Space Ritual Alive. For a start, the band line-up remains largely unchanged from the earlier tour, with Lemmy contributing his trademark vocals, although Calvert has been replaced by Michael Moorcock as poet in residence. Several key elements of the actual Space Ritual remain (The Awakening, Sonic Attack, Welcome to the Future), however it is no mistake that the title features the word 'party', and while Space Ritual Alive fully captured the reverential awe of that particular event, the 1999 Party is a wonderful document of the band at their most playful, with even Sonic Attack rendered slapstick by the addition of 'boom-tish' drum fills to punctuate the dire warnings.
Whereas the Space Ritual tour had largely utilised songs from the Doremi Fasol Latido album to fill the musical gaps in Calvert's original vision, the 1999 Party showcases tunes from the Hall of the Mountain Grill and features the first live version of D-Rider on record anywhere, while You'd Better Believe It and Paradox, which were actually live versions when first issued on the Hall of the Mountain Grill, get their first outing on an official concert album. You get yet another version of Brainstorm, albeit a particularly good one, the first live recording of single Brainbox Pollution, which is an absolute gem, and while this set was purged of all other Doremi material, the 1999 Party paradoxically features the first live recording of Lemmy's menacing The Watcher - and what an incredible bass-driven rendering it is!
Lemmy would be busted for possession of amphetamines on the next North American tour and sacked from the band, dancer Miss Stacia and kinky saxophonist Nik Turner both left during the next couple of years, and although Robert Calvert later returned in an expanded role as genuine frontman of the band throughout the second half of the seventies, as the band surprisingly trailblazed their way through the landscape of punk/new wave, Hawkwind would never again be the same band that they were during '73/'74 - if you were weaned on Space Ritual Alive, then Hawkwind Live at the Chicago Auditorium (The 1999 Party) is the only alternate source of the sustenance to which you have become accustomed.

Customer Reviews:
Great party mix!.......2001-06-06
This is perfect to pop in your CD player for a party. There are rap songs and pop songs mixed together to provide a great mix of music. The album starts out with the jamming No No No pt.2 by Destiny's Child featuring Wyclef Jean. This is a great party song, and my favorite on the album. This kicks into a whole gigantic set of rap songs with artists like Missy Elliot, Master P, Noreaga, Busta Rhymes, Big Punisher and Lord Tariq. The rap section immediately cools down to Robyn's great Show Me Love. Most of the rest of this CD is pop, like the songs by Sugar Ray and Backstreet Boys, and the surprisingly good dance remix of My Heart Will Go On. These greatly reflect the music MTV was airing at the time. If you like rap and you like pop, then get this and you will not be disapointed.
More like 3 1/2, most songs are worth it.......2000-04-22
This CD has some of the most bangin tracks of the last year or so, but the CD does not know what it wants to be. Rap? R-n-B? Pop? Rock? I take it as being a rap album, and so I enjoyed most of the tracks. The only bad ones would be the whiny "No, No, No", the annoying "Superthug", and songs 8, 10, 11 and 12. The sleeper hits: The last two tracks, "Lets Ride" and "Butta Love". Peace
only had a couple of artist worth talking about.......1999-09-05
the only artist I would buy the CD for is Destiny Child,Peter Gunz
It's Aight, But Kinda Dissapointing.......1999-05-31
This like all MTV Party To Go cds is hot, but with all the hot songs that came out in '98 and late '97 this should be better. Good additions would be "horse and carriage" by camron, a song by Mase or Puffy, etc. It's good though. The best songs are the first six tracks, and song number nine. Good for parties, and it's nice and upbeat which is cool.
My favorite compilation, yo!!!!.......1999-05-29
Wow I'm into so much music including the stuff on this CD and baby it keeps me body rockin! Like rock, then a little bit of pop, and then when it comes to hip hop and party jams that's the bomb. Most of this CD is good, which is a great amount compared to other ones. My favorite is "Supathug" by Noreaga... yo that joint bangs!

Nice comp.......2006-08-17
This is a pretty good compilation. This is just what I was looking for. "Soca Gold 1999" is fast paced and dancy. Great party music. Recommend.
Very Good Soca Compilation.......2005-10-06
Mostly good stuff on this comp. Standouts include tracks 1,2,8, and 13. The steel drums and rapid pace will keep you movin. The quality of acts featured in this CD will get you to explore other Soca music and the great music of Trinidad.
Mr. Dale has an amazing voice..........2003-05-31
I loved this CD very much and it is on constant rotation in my CD changer. The sleeper track on it was "Kaylaylay" by Mr. Dale and Magnet Man. Mr. Dale is an up and coming star in soca music. His voice is amazing and does things to the ears of the listener.
Great.......2001-02-08
Hot,lively CD. I'm in love with the "Kaylaylay" track.Does Mr.Dale and/or Magnet Man have an album? This is the freshest combination I've heard in Soka music for a long time. "Calor" is very hot as well. Cant wait for Soka Gold 2000 and 2001.
Jump Up!.......2000-06-27
If you love soca like I do. This is a must buy. It makes you want to dance all day long. Many of the song where played at Carabana. I love it!

Man - 'The 1999 Party Tour' (Eagle/Point).......2004-05-07
Cannot believe that I actually let this disc sit around the house for awhile before getting around to listening to it.First off,it's WAY better than that 'Greasy Trucker' 2-track EP.The band hails from Wales,UK.Not wanting to be out done by just any band from that era,guitarist/vocalist Deke Leonard and crew plays a sort of 'progressive psychedelia' that you simply just don't see anymore. This five-track winner was recorded in April 1974 in Chicago when they toured as support act for Hawkwind.I,personally know several people that still speak of that tour from time to time.Best tracks were easy to spot, like "71 71 551"(which is said to have been Mike Nesmith's phone number at THAT time) and the superbly done 25-minute epic "C'mon".Anyone who owns a copy of this CD can be sure to get many enjoyable plays within years to come.Should appeal to fans of Wishbone Ash,Quicksilver Messenger Service and Caravan.
