Customer Reviews:
Hollowman!! Wow.......2007-05-31
This is just a sick CD here. Not as epic as some of their earlier stuff but for flat out riff ripping this one rocks! Honestly this has got to be one of the true classics of Death Metal and its just a must have CD.
Classic from the founders of Death N Roll.......2006-12-17
Im an avid Entombed fan from Left Hand Path to When In Sodom im a huge fan. Leaning away from the traditional death metal sound (Which they helped pioneer in the late 80's and early 90's) Entombed added other influences to their sound mainly that of older rock and some punk you could say to create a perfect sound known as Death N Roll. They founded it n they do it better than ne one else too. This is certainly Entombed's best album showcasing their talent flawlessly on such tracks as "rotten soil" "wolverine blues". The album has nothing to do with Marvil comics well at least the band didnt however w/o their permission the label made a deal with Marvel comics which is very gay indeed not that I dont like Xmen or Wolverine my fav comic book caracter. This album is a really great classic of early 90's death metal after helping pioneer (of course behind bands such as Death, Obituary, Dark Tranquillity) death metal they founded death n roll. Its a great album by ne standards if your a fan of death n roll or death metal or just metal youll like it. And if you like Entombed why the heck havent u picked this buety up yet!!!??? Surely the best work by them to date however Entombed has a history of supprising rises from the "ashes" so to speak so watch for Serpant Saints coming in March or Febuary of 2007.
Classic .......2006-06-12
I've read some quite unintelligent reviews about this album on here. I won't mention any names, but it seems like a few people missed out on one of the best metal albums ever released by dismissing it because the lyrics weren't "hard core" enough. For a band from Sweden (I'm assuming English is a second language here) these lyrics are some of the best I have ever heard. Aside from the occasional usage of foul language, the lyrical songwriting is very intelligent in songs like Contempt, Hollowman and Out of Hand. This is not typical satan metal or gore metal with lyrics about evoking the devil or ripping people's limbs off, these lyrics actually have substance. As far as the music goes, this is perfection. There are no land speed guitar record riffs, no beat your head against the wall blasting drums and no incoherent glass gargling vocals. There are lots of chugging guitars, crunchy riffs and some exquisite drum work. Petrov's vocals are tough, but not cheesy. This album, along with both Swansong and Heartwork by Carcass, and Wickerman's self titled debut, are about the only albums that have this same kind of groove. Thats unfortunate because this is a formula that really works well, and in the overcrowded genre of death metal, this is a breath of fresh air. Granted this album is almost 13 years old, it still sounds fresh.
Average Metal record.......2006-02-10
Entombed is one of those Bands that are pretty much hit or miss with certain albums. "Wolverine Blues" is a on of those that seems to miss a bit, yet its really nothing special. Its pretty much just raw metal, not really "Death or Black" on Genere. The vocals are pretty intense, guitar work is OK, and the drums are about average. I have heard other Entombed albums that are much better then this, as this is kind of a sub-par effort. Its not all that bad as there are some really crunchy tunes on here, but there is some filler material, and the songs that suck, really suck. Try another Entombed record then this, as it is just average.
Better than Slayer.......2006-01-20
Different strokes for different folks, but if you have that streak of irreverant darkness then this is for you. Death and roll.
