All Around Great Album from the King Of AfroBeat!.......2000-04-16

Originally released in 1977, this is a studio recording so it has a more polished sound than on the recent Best Best. BTW, none of these tracks are on Best Best... Stalemate and Fear not for Man are the stand outs, but the rest of album is good too. It's another intoxicating organic mixture of African harmonies, bebop, and James Brown. Listen to the samples!

Album Description

Minneapolis alternative metal group Stalemate's debut CD "Lie_Ability" is one of the hottest discs to hit the Minneapolis Scene. Released in November 2001, the CD has been growing in popularity, opening many doors for the up and comming young band.

Mike Miller, guitarist, is known for writing intense, catchy riffs that give the songs an edge unheard in many alt metal bands. Sean Hess on drums helps create varying grooves to give each song a unique rhythmic flavor, aided by the inspiring bass lines of bassist Justin Winter. The music is topped of by catchy melodies written by singer Joe Novak, which many listeners find themselves humming after listening.

SMP = Refreshing.......2003-08-20

SMP has to be one of the best industrial bands I have seen live and "Stalemate" is a great CD. Several dance-floor hits here including "451, Pure Uncut Anger, Clementine, Scarlet Letter, Pt. 1 and Backwards". SMP blends a little of everything into their sound, pure out industrial and even some industrial rap. If you like bands like Consolidated & Meat Beat Manifesto then you will LOVE SMP.

Excellent industrial/hip hop/punk!.......2001-10-22

SMP (formerly Synthesia Murder Program -- a name they felt was too "stereotypically industrial") bust out with a slurry of aggro industrial grooves on this album. "Pure Uncut Anger" is one of the standout tracks and as been featured on a couple of industrial compilations. Their cover of Ice-T's "Lethal Weapon" is hard and heavy. "Clementine" features great cyberpunk fiction lyrics of a bio-engineered person breaking out the facility that spawned him. "Cops" and the AIDS-related "Scarlet Letter" are also great songs.

This is an excellent CD. The drum/percussion lines are creative and unique, the melodies are detail oriented and the vocals are powerful. I've heard the bands 2nd CD, Ultimatum and can assure you, these musicians are versitile and incredibly talented. I intend to continue collecting all of their work and follow their careers. If you listen to any form of electronic, industrial, hip-hop or punk, I'd highly recommend this CD.

If you like minor threat.......2006-12-06

If you like Minor Threat, you will like Undertow. I wish they were still playing--their live shows were amazing. It is hardcore punk of the Straitedge school (no drugs, no booze, singing about social and political change, etc). In my opinion, they are one of the best hardcore bands ever, even though they never got very famous or anything.

if you like hardore these guys are pretty high on the list. they are in the same vane as botch and vade but long before either. they established the seattle hardcore sound and few have been able to match their intensity.
