Get this cd is you are a pc-free individual who likes loud heavy music with a punk-humor twist. This is Tesco's finest gem next to Gonzo-Hate-Vibe and Rock N Roll Juggernaut/SUperbikes. Love this cd......get toilet slave too

The Third Coming of Vee.......2004-07-08

In 1995, Tesco Vee, lead singer of the Meatmen went through his 3rd refurbishment of the band and released Pope on a Rope. Although Vee has not lost his irreverent sense of humor, as is witnessed by the title track, the loss of all of the 84-88 Meatmen (especially the replacement of Lyle Preslar with Norman Voss on Lead Guitar) has hurt the band musically.

Pope on a Rope is an album based on pentatonic riffs, and while many of them (ie: "Beefsteak Boogie", "I Want Drugs") are very catchy, the music seems to lack substance without the addition of Preslar's accentuating and melodic guitar licks. A cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "Hot Rails to Hell" only seems to provide an ironic punctuation of the new Meatmen's overreliance on simplicity.

What the Meatmen now lack in terms musical prowess, however is offset by Vee's enthusiasm and sense-of-humor. The music is pretty good in itself, but there are about fourteen tracks on this album that distinguish themself through the lyrics alone.
