Great reggae album.......2006-03-20
"Bad Boys" is an old favorite of mine. Most of you are familiar with the title track theme from "Cops." But the entire album is great and I don't skip any song.
SELL OUT TO THE ENTIRE GENRE' OF REGGAE MUSIC.......2006-02-04
Listen y'all, I don't know about you, but I HAVE NO INTENTION WHATSOEVER of
LISTENING TO OR SUPPORTING A REGGAE BAND THAT SELLS THEIR MUSIC (or should
I say, muzak?) TO THE COPS TV show. The hell with this band. I love reggae,
and I realize that cops are an important part of our society and culture
(they keep the peace), BUT REGGAE AND COPS?
Take a very long walk off of a short pier boys.
Inner Circle are sell outs! I feel that you, the curious and not so
knowledgable reggae purveyor, should disregard all of these five star
reviews of this band, because they are written by folks that have no
interest in true reggae, and have no clue what it is about! Call me a
reggae snob if you will, but I truly think that if you want to check out
reggae you should close this page and do a google search on " LISTMANIA,
crucial reggae". Do the work and start at a more real place. A couple of suggestion are The Congos 'Heart of the Congos', anything by Israel Vibrations, The Abyssinians, Lee Scratch Perry,...But this band will not satisfy, they are designed to be listened to by fools. Oh, wait, I'm sorry, I had no... I am sooo Embarrassed.
Really, in years to come you will be glad.
When I am at my local used CD store, I offer to smash their extra copies
(they have many) of this album for them, they think I'm kidding - I'm not.
This band is a joke.
Thank you so much quick shipping.......2004-04-29
Thank you so much quick shipping. It is GREAT job !!!!....
I enjoy it....
WOW.......2003-11-21
I hate to dance, and I hate any type of music besides rock, and some rap, but this is unbeliveable.Hot beats, great rhymes, etc. just make this a great cd. Inner circle is a great SKA band, a type of music I like. I heard "Sweat", and i was just shocked, because i was singing with the song, vibing with the bass, and just feeling the music. The most popular song on this cd, is probable "Bad Boys", because it is the theme song for COPS, a great show. And that song is also a great reason to buy this cd.
Listen to the samples of "Sweat" and "Bad Boys", if you DONT like those songs, i guarantee you that you wont like this cd. But the majority of all us people, HAVE to like those songs. Another thing, why the hell isnt "Sweat" and "Bad Boys" on Inner circles Greatest Hits??? Very shocking, 'cause "Sweat", to this day, is still playing on the radio.
But if Inner Circle has me as a fan, it HAS TO BE GOOD. I like Green day, Dead Kennedys, Blink 182, and Sublime, etc., so Inner Circle isn't really in the same area as these bands, so they really stand out. And for the price, its a great buy.
Peace out~laterz
have the cops in your room with this great cd.......2001-04-02
Inner circle's name might not be that familiar but the track bad boys has been listed to by almost everybody in the united states from the hit tv show cops. This CD contains no offensive language, but for some parent the content in the song might not be the best for YOUNG children to listen to for some (when I got the CD I was 6) it might be a little bit frightening if you listen to the lyrics closely, but overall the cd is appropriate. I suggest that you but the CD.

when people wonder why I'm devoted to DUB.......2005-08-13
...I pull out this disc, crank up the volume, and close my eyes. This album has heart and soul. It's lethal. This is deep DUB, some cream of the cream; and that's saying alot when you're talking about the superb Blood & Fire label.
DUBBING IS A MUST.......2002-02-05
When you hear "Inner Circle", changes are that you think of highly commercial reggae, such as their theme song "Bad Boys" which they made for a television program. Others will remember this band from their days with singer Jacob Miller, who unfortunately died much too early in a car accident. Few will remember them for their really killer dubwise albums. And that is really a shame, because this is a Heavyweight Killer Dub album that you'll bound to remember even after hearing it once. So much respect is due to Blood And Fire, for re-releasing another great CD!
Heavyweight Dub and Killer Dub were both originally released in 1978. One LP (as they were called back then) was mixed by the mighty Prince Jammy in King Tubby's studio's (Killer), the other one by Maximillian, a reasonably unknown engineer at Channel One Studio's. Further, there's an all star list of musicians who participated in this set of tracks.
It sure is heavyweight, and it sure is a killer! There are many really hard rocking steppers rhythms on this 19 track set, some dubs from well known tracks such as well, and everything is mixed very well too, I can't or won't say different. This is the kind of album that you play when someone asks you what's so special about all this "old skool" material. The riddims are very interesting to listen to, the mixes are intense, and the psychedelic sounds that make Dub what it is, are created the way they should be: by adding effects to instruments.
Although the two albums are mixed by different engineers in different studio's, they match each other perfectly. If I had to choose between them, I would favor the first album (Heavyweight Dub, by Maximillian), because it's mixed much more psychedelically. But really the choice is almost impossible. To have both albums on one CD makes the choice unnecessary anyway.
Doesn't this CD have any negative points? Yes, it does. The lack of vocals is a thing that really bothers me. Only in the last track can you hear some vocals. A little more snippets of Jacob "Killer" Miller's vocals would have been a welcome addition to this set. But perhaps it would then become "too heavyweight", and that's another CD.
The only Inner Circle album worth owning.......2001-09-24
I can't beleive how raw and dreader than dread this Inner Circle album is!...Whaddya Know!...I never thought i'd ever use the words dread and Inner Circle in the same sentence! This album is as good as it is, in large part because of the production. This is actually two Cds. "Heavyweight Dub" was mixed at Channel One Studios by the Lewis Brothers and Maxie, while Killer Dub was mixed by the legendary Prince Jammy at King Tubby's Studios. Forget about "Bad Boys" and "Da Bomb"' and other such embarassments. This is as good as dub gets. If you're a dub fan, DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS ALBUM!...Jacob Miller would be proud.
Classic rockers dub.......2000-06-04
When it comes to 'hard core' rockers dub it doesn't come ANY better than this. Bernard and 'Touter' Harvey were/are the original Rockers paving the way for the likes of Sly and Robbie years B4. The core of these tracks laid down for Jacob Miller, have been mixed and remixed and can be found underneath other Jacob albums and many other artists. With a real 70's feel this album is only going to be appreciated by the REAL dub collector. In this original series, of three albums, I have all three on vinyl on thier original Top Ranking labels and wouldn't part with them 4 any ammount of money, nuff said!

Evergrey - Prog Metal Concept Album.......2007-02-22
Evergrey are a progressive metal band from Sweden who record on the Inside Out America label. This is the only album of theirs that I own, but I like it a lot and want to explore the band further. The band is fairly typical progressive metal with twin lead guitars, keys, bass, drums and anthemtic vocals. The musicians are all rock solid. The vocalist does not have the range of some others in this genre, but overall has a powerful voice and fits the music well. The album is a concept piece about an individual who joins a religious cult. The music is mostly pounding metal (with two ballads) that probably lean on the heavier side of the progressive metal spectrum. They remind me a bit of Symphony X (although a bit heavier), and the clean vocal side of Opeth. I don't think Evergrey are quite at the same level as these two bands, but they are very good at what they do and I would think most fans of hard progressive metal would really enjoy this disc.
Not very good at all.......2006-04-26
I have only managed to listen to this album all the way through once, the main reason for this being that I usually get bored by the fourth or fifth tracks. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of progressive metal, but in this album Evergrey seems to embody everything that can go wrong with the genre. The singing is pretty poor, being very cheesy and not having much of a vocal range, and in the last song this gives way to an awful spoken section which just seems to be put there just because this is supposed to be a concept album.
The main problem that I have though is that all the songs seem to sound the same, at least in the first half of the cd (which is where I usually get to). They all have the same guitar riffs, the same mediocre singing, and there's nothing to set one track apart from another. This is in contrast to other prog metal bands like Pain of Salvation, where lack of variety is hardly an issue.
I really did try to like this album, especially after all the positive reviews I've read- maybe I just don't get it. Apparently Recreation Day and In Search for Truth are Evergrey's best albums- I might give them a listen and see if they change my opinion.
Earth-shattering and Heartbreaking.......2006-03-01
Evergrey never ceases to amaze me. Although "In Search of Truth" is widely regarded as their best album, their latest effort, "The Inner Circle", is just as revolutionary and breathtaking as any mainstream album to date.
Frontman Tom S. Englund's "rip-your-heart-out" vocals are very unique for this type of music. Usually with progressive metal one can expect vocals similar to that of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, or EdGuy's Tobias Sammet. But Mr. Englund's scratchy voice comes from the heart and soul rather than his throat alone. And the guitar work is absolutely fabulous! If you don't believe me, just hear the intro to "More than Ever", or the solos and galloping rhythm work from "The Essence of Conviction". The drums are equally impressive. Easily the best this side of Iced Earth's "The Glorious Burden".
And how about the lyrics? They are astounding, telling the story of an individual joining a cult and revealing the lies they spread to their followers. "A Touch of Blessing" sets all of this in place, and is probably the strongest track on the album. "...all the dreams I had, all my future wishes... put aside for a greater journey..." are some of the most ingenius lyrics I've ever heard.
What really sets this album apart from it's predecessors, however, is the heartbreaking narrative interweaving the song lyrics spoken by some unnamed evangelist. This is most apparent in the final track, "When the Walls Go Down". It will bring tears to your eyes, as the evangelist has a sort of mental-breakdown amidst the overwhelming orchestrations and guitar rhythms. I've never heard Evergrey do an insrumental track before, and this was a very nice way to end such an ambitious album.
All in all, this is one of my favorite prog/metal albums of all time. If you get the chance, pick up the limited edition to hear three acoustic versions of songs from the "Recreation Day" album.
Absolutely beautiful.
Best effort (I promise not to be cheesy).......2005-11-11
All too many times in metal bands sing about ridiculous and overused themes and lyrical structures. Evergrey, for me, was a welcomed change to that of which I have grown more and more dissapointed in. Their lyrics are meaningful, emotional, anti-cliche, and thought provoking. Even when you are not moving your head and body to the metal sounds you are consumed by the feel of the album.
It is not their most impressive musicl album if you are looking for flashy solo's, hardcore riffs, and an album consisting of nothing but head-banging. If you are looking for an album that does not overuse a single element at the musics disposal (lyrics, vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums, bass, etc) then this is a perfect album for you. I have heard all the music of those who want you to hear how good they are over, and over, and over again. And frankly, it's all boring.
As a concept album, this is probably the most consistently sensical album that I have ever heard. It all follows the same theme and really touches at the heart of the matter. For the story you can buy the album and read about it, or their website www.evergrey.net.
The first 7 tracks are absolutely fabulous. I am not huge into some of the later songs, but one of the finest eforts I have heard is "When the Walls Go Down". WARNING: This is not a metal song with melody lines, big choruses or any of that. It is keyboard and orchestration behind a narrated testimony and the words are far beyond riveting. It is a perfect emotional closing to an album whose goal was precisely that.
I got into their Recreation Day album first after buying it off of Amazon, and I pretty much fell in love with it after a few listens. This effort is less of the metal that some people would expect, the sort of guitar driven crunch but nonetheless this is worth every cent you will pay for it. I highly reccomend the live DVD "A Night to Remember" as well.
Hope I wasn't too cheesy.
The Inner Circle.......2005-11-07
I came to this, my first Evergrey CD, knowing only that they were a Swedish prog metal band, which conjured up a mental image of Opeth in "clean" vocal mode. Evergrey was touted by some fellow progheads whose taste I respect so I thought I would give it a try and I'm glad I did. While I do enjoy some prog metal, I'm usually more of an old-school symphonic prog kind of guy, so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed The Inner Circle.
Evergrey are more proggy than I though they would be when I first heard "Swedish prog metal" attached to their name, but when they want to they can blast out some traditional double-kick speed metal. The singer doesn't growl like death metal or scream like speed metal though, using a dramatic style(and yes, sometimes cheesy-but it just goes with the territory with prog metal.) The vocals are mostly quite effective, and are surprisingly sung in perfectly enunciated English. There are tons of proggy touches, from keyboards that are much more upfront than most prog metal, to sampled voices and female vocals (shades of Dark Side of the Moon)to the clear and well thought out concept concerning religious cults of personality, those that have a leader who elevates himself to Godlike status. There are so many ridiculous and half-baked bad "concept albums" out there, especially in the neo-prog world, that I was pleasantly surprised by the coherence on display here.
Both guitarists play tastefully enough to mostly sidestep gratuitous wankery, but the real secret weapon is the excellent keyboard player, something I noticed from the first track and my appreciation just increased as the CD progressed. I read that other than the bandleader, this is an entirely new lineup of the group, startling given the maturity and tightness of this release. I will definitely be checking out some of their earlier work and I hope that lineup was as good as this one.
As I said, my prog metal knowledge is quite limited but I would describe this as a cross between Dream Theater at their best, with a liberal dose of Opeth minus the vocals and some 70's symph prog influence. For those who are more into "regular" prog like myself, Evergrey is a great change of pace.

Great buy for reggae enthusiasts.......2007-07-16
This album is a great addition to any audiophile's collection and to anyone who loves reggae. Inner Circle has created a celebration of life through blending the traditional reggae sound with rock and roll and has improved both in the process. The album is non political compared to most other reggae recordings but lacks for nothing in musicianship, vitality, or relevance to an audience. From the opening chords in "Music Machine" to the title cut "Everything is Great" everyone will find something in this that will make them smile.
