Peter Criss at his best since KISS.......2007-03-21

This is the best music Peter Criss has done since his days in KISS. Wish he would put this band back together and record a follow up,every song rocks,up to Beth of course.But I must say the Catman has put a nice twist on this version of Beth,with some great classical (that's right I said classical)guitar work from special guest Ace Frehley.If you don't own this CD, then your KISS kollection is incomplete.And for the price thats listed here now...this is a steal!!!!! Rock on KISS fans!!!!

Heavy Metal roar from a creative Criss Cat........2006-06-26

Peter Criss ex drummer of Kiss gives us something else on this CD. Nothing wrong whit that, so long it`s done with a certain creativity. This Cd is a rear gem, with some musical diamonds sparkling here and there. Anyway it begins with a roar with Track 1 Bad Attitude. It sounds like early Kiss, and it sounds, dam good. Peter`s voice is raw and unpolished, and the riff`s and raff's on the guitar works quite good. Track 2 Walk the line, follows much in the same track. There`s a creative pain in Peter`s voice that works. It`s more funky, and has a melodious string to it that make it something else. Track 3 The truth is very heavy metal, in the beginning, and then it goes into "ballad"territory. A fine switch song between heavy metal and ballad this one. Track 4 Bad people burn in Hell, is quite melodious and danceable, in the "should have been a hit" genre. The fuzzy riffs are quite effective in other words, but sometimes Peters voice sounds to strained, but as an whole is quite ok. Track 5 Show me, is an ok track, but Peter is not singing it, and that`s a let down. The vocal sounds to much castrated in a way. It`s very average heavy metal, but the melody is quite ok though. Track 6 Good time is the first ballad. It`s very simpel. The voice of Peter sounds not to strained. It`s anyway a stream of cliches. The theme is repated again and again. To little variations on this one to lift it above average. Track 7 Strike is an ok pop heavy metal song, and it has a good refrain. It`s effective and a good classical Criss cat rock and roller. Track 8 Blue Moon over Brooklyn, is the winner on this CD. It`s melodious and effective, and it goes deep into to your soul, with good lyric and music. It tells you much about life itself. Very enjoyable Criss cat music this one, its purrrrr/murr good as cat whould have said it. Track 9 Down with the sun, is effective, in the pop genre. This is Criss as we know him, purrrrre and simpel. Track 10. We want you, is in the light heavy metal genre. Not Criss on vocal. A letdown this one. Nothing more to add really. Track 11 Beth is a Criss and Kiss classic. Well this is something else. It`s simpel. It's effective, but there`s something missing. The strings, the piano, and the symphonic atmosphere that lift`s it above average as the original. The guitar playing by ex Kiss member Ace Frehley is anyway quite good. To sum it up. This is anyway a creative heavy metal roar tour from Peter Criss.

I like Criss' voice and mostly like the stuff he did with KISS over the years. His singing requires a sympathetic producer, though, someone who can bring out the best he's got, and his songwriting needs a strong helping hand. When he's got both he can produce some really good sounding stuff.

On this CD he has done that. But, unless you worship the ground he walks on, for most people half of this material will be so-so at best, and the rest is okay. One of my non-KISSfan musician friends listened to the disc with me and remarked, sympathetically, "he seems to have a message he wants to get across..." which was a good summary. You can FEEL the sincerity of this collection of songs, but quality-wise you just have to cut Criss a bit of a break if you're gonna regard this is a truly good listen. On songs like "Blue Moon Over Brooklyn" he has a story that means a lot to him, and the song is not bad, and the recording does its best, but you just know it would never make radio playlists anywhere. Something's just missing. And I wouldn't say it's talent--it just falls a little short of mind-blowing.

Two tracks on this CD are apparently not sung by Peter Criss, though they were clever enough to have them sung by someone who's not worlds away from his sound. There's no overt attempt to cover up this fact, and a non-fan might not notice the difference, but on those high, wailing notes you just know it's not him but the other principal singer.

Over all, a pretty decent CD for the already-fan. Others can take a pass on this.

The Heavy Metal Days of Peter Criss..........2005-02-20

It is know that the first two solo releases of Peter Criss's, 1980s "Out of Control" and 1982s "Let Me Rock You" were musically based on Peter's inspirations and the vibe of those albums were R&B based and carried in those albums were a few ballads each. This time, in 1994, twelve years after Peter's last release, Peter crossed over into the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal genre. This album is unlike any of Peter's three solo albums from 1978, 1980, or 1982. This album is pure Hard Rock and there is very little mix of brass and piano like there was frequently shown in his last three releases. In switching his sound to what he felt the fans wanted from him, he did an good job. Peter now instituted new drums that were louder and definitely sounded phenomenal when he played them and along for the ride was heavier guitars.

Here are the best hits off of the album: (The rest of the songs not mentioned are below average with the rest of the album):

Track 2, "Walk The Line" is an instant metal classic. Great lyrics, pounding drums by Peter and during the chorus while Peter sings, "Come on baby and/Walk the Line," there is a cool little riff playing along with him. This song is a very catchy tune. Track 3, "The Truth" is a tragic rocker. It's about war and family fighting family and all the tragedies that have happened in the past. A slow rocker but another classic and Peter's vocals sound great on this song. Track 4, "Bad People Burn In Hell". This is definitely the greatest song on the album. It's a fast-paced rock and roller. Fantastic lyrics, Peter's greatest drum work on the album and definitely plays the drums REAL loud on this track. Instant ROCK CLASSIC!

Track 6, "Good Times." This is the first ballad of the album. Very loving song with loving lyrics and Peter's amazing and passionate voice. Typical Peter Criss ballad. Very nice chorus: "For the Good Times/Everybody have a cheer/My baby said goodbye night/For the Good Times/Everybody have a cheer/Everythings gonna be alright tonight." The second ballad is "Blue Moon Over Brooklyn." This ballad Peter dedicated to his recently deceased mother. The song is pure story line of when Peter found out Mom was dying and to the day she died. Very well written but not as catchy as "Good Times."

For those Peter Criss or KISS fans, you should definitely buy the album to finish your collection. This CD has 11 tracks on it and half are pretty good and the rest I don't particulary care for. Anyone else might like them. This CD should be in your shopping cart next. Note: If there is anyone having trouble finding a brand new copy, go to EBAY.com. That's where I bought mine. CAT-ASTROPHIC.......2005-01-03

This is what happens when the money runs out and an artist tries to second guess what people want to hear from them. In having done so this bunch of tired, un-constructed, non entities masquerading as songs is the result. And it is not pretty let me tell you. Every song goes off in an un-focused direction trying to arrive somewhere in metal territory where it is never going to get. Mild highlights are "Blue Moon Over Brooklyn" whose intent is sweet and heartfelt but is ruined by hideous rhyming (?) couplets such as 'he started crying/said mom was dying' and the grasping at straws remake of "Beth" that has a nice stripped back acoustic treatment (see poolside Phantom of the Park) but non of the sincere emotion of the original cut. Surely for completionary purposes only? I am doubting there are any Kiss fans anywhere who pay homage to this in the way say 'The Elder' is dealt. Avoid if able to resist the challenge of completing the collection.
