5 out of 5 stars should have been bigger..........2007-06-30

their third and last album, listen to "Fantasy" which is a brilliant song, one of their best. Carl Dixon was a great singer, not a screamer but a real singer, closer to Coverdale than Halford. Steve Shelski was (is) above your average lead guitar player, and the rhythm section knew how to rock. famous producer max Norman did a very good job by producing this album, the sound is really amazing. a great album from a great canadian band, this is the business side of things that put an end to this band, not their music!

4 out of 5 stars Final Studio Album.......2006-11-28

Released in 1985, Friction was the third and final album from Canadian rockers Coney Hatch. The band had a great, Foreigner meets April Wine arena rock sound that should have resulted in larger success, but for whatever reason they never caught on. It's a shame, because the band's albums - Friction in particular - had all of the right elements to appeal to rock fans in the 80's.

Of their three albums, Friction was the most AOR sounding. This might have been a sign of the times, but the album has a slick, polished sound similar to what bands like Y&T, Autograph, and Foreigner were releasing at the time. It's catchy as hell, and an absolute treat for 80's AOR aficionados.

Two thumbs way up for this great rock album. It's just about guaranteed to have you nodding your head and singing along in the car by the second track.

NOTE: So far, Friction remains the only Coney Hatch album that has not been remastered. One can only hope that situation will be remedied soon.

5 out of 5 stars THIS AIN'T LOVE.......2002-03-01

This ain't love, but it's awfully close. This is the third and, unfortunately, final album by Coney Hatch. It was a short fast run, but ultimately left me with songs I would remember and look for until Anthem Records released this on CD. The cuts that make this a great addition to a Rock collection are "State Line" and "She's Gone".

I know most of you won't buy a CD for 2 songs, but there is more than that here. Coney Hatch is one of those groups that has an excellent retrospect package (BEST OF THREE) and the other great songs made that disc. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the band those tunes are "Wrong Side of Town", "Fantasy", "Girl From Last Night's Dream", and my favorite "This Ain't Love". There is also "He's a Champion", a better-than-average song.

I hate saying this is the same old Coney Hatch, but in a sense it is. Again, it is radio friendly no-nonsense Rock-n-Roll. Listening to these discs again, it is hard to fathom why Coney Hatch didn't take the music world by storm. It's probably the curse of my liking them. I can only say this is one of many groups that shows the fickleness of radio and it's inability to bring great bands into every market. Of course, maybe it's the curse of living in a market, where program director's don't have their thumbs up their ---!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent rock & roll CD.......1999-10-08

Back in the early 80's I did a college radio show that focused on rock & roll, not heavy metal. We would have access to new music coming out and that's when I first heard this album...remember those?! I thought it was great!!! I must have marked every song on the album with 2 stars, meaning it was good enough to play the the show!

Get the CD ... you won't be disapointed!

Combining the best of both worlds (melody and muscle) into one remarkable package, Outa Hand went on to establish Coney Hatch as arguably the most endearing and successful Canadian rock acts of the eighties. This remastered edition features 11 total tracks including the 2 bonus tracks 'Your Kinds Love' & 'Nobody Gives You'. Rock Candy. 2005.

5 out of 5 stars Finally edited!!!.......2006-06-20

I can't believe they finally edited this album!! I'm a die hard Coney Hatch fan and this is the missing piece I was looking for! I didn't remember this album was this good, I mean, I have the "Best of Three" album, which includes the first five songs from "Outa Hand", and those are exactly the songs I liked the most back then, but since this album had never existed before in CD format, I haven't listened to it in years (I have the LP and a wored out cassette), but thanks to this edition I rediscovered "Too far gone", "Love games", "Fallen angel" and "Music of the night". But if the edition of this album for the very first time on cd wasn't just enough a reason to buy it right away, let me tell you that it includes three great bonus tracks (even the demo "Fly on", in its rough mix, is a great adition to the Coney Hatch legacy). Two of the bonus tracks are sung by Carl Dixon ("Nobody gives you", "Fly on"), and other by Andy Curran ("Your kinda love"). The sound of this remastered version is clear and powerful at the same time, and it also includes a 16-page colour booklet with no so many photographs as I had wished (maybe eight or so), no lyrics, but with very interesting comments behind the "Outa Hand" album provided by Carl and Andy. Either you love'em or not, if you like straight hard rock with a touch of melody, you should give it a try, you won't regret it.
Long live Coney Hatch!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Classic Hard Rock Collection.......2006-07-21

Canada's Coney Hatch was very much a product of its time. They played melodic hard rock with a metal edge, and had that certain indefinable quality that lets you know instantly that you're hearing mid-eighties hard rock. There are shades of Journey and Foreigner-style AOR here, but the band's sound is closer to bands like Axe, Rail, and countrymen April Wine. Heavy, but not quite metal. Melodic, but not quite AOR. Definitely hard rock though.

Best of Three is a compilation of material from Coney Hatch's three studio albums. Surprisingly for a "best of" compilation, there are no live tracks, though there is one song "Fuel For the Fire" that is exclusive to this disc. Best of Three is a great introduction to Coney Hatch, a band that should appeal to fans of classic hard rock.

2 out of 5 stars Good Music, But a Complete lack of Hooks..........2003-10-05

By that I mean, each song sounds good, in theory they have great grooves and nice solos and they make you think this is going to be a great song, but for some reason, each and every song lacks the certain something to really make me get into it. They sound a little too much like Loverboy to me.

I recommend their version of "Hey Operator", "Fantasy" is a good ballad-type song great harmony, and I can't live without a track like "Where I Draw the Line" and "The Girl From Last Night's Dream" strange how this one seems to say exactly what I've expeirenced before, after a dream like that, it felt so real.. and I thought I was just crazy...well maybe...but that song is cool. Also I gotta plug "First Time for Everything". Again, it's not a problem with the music, and the singer's voice is also great, I like him and he seems fresh and not like any one else but the songs...I don't know...the band seems to miss the killer hook almost everytime. Save your money, rip the few songs from a friend who owns this and go get Loverboy. 6/17

5 out of 5 stars GREAT CD!.......2002-02-10

This greatest hits is a compilation of music from the 3 albums that Coney Hatch released around the 80's. I would prefer to have the 3 individual discs, but unfortuntately one of them is not available. This is a good collection, but with all greatest hits albums there are favorites missing, but let's get into this CD. The good news is there are at least 5 songs from each of their releases and you get almost a discful of great tunes.

Coney Hatch wasn't quite Hard Rock, but they had a straight forward approach to music and had a great beat, guitar work, and vocals. I have to thank Kim Mitchell for helping these guys out and getting them signed to Anthem records to get their music released to the world. With luck maybe OUTA HAND will get released on CD soon and the world can have the complete Coney Hatch. I'm not familiar with singles by the band, so, I'll just get into a few of their great songs you may want to treat yourself to. My favorites here are "First Time for Everything", "Don't Say Make Me", "This Ain't love", and "Devil's Deck". I would buy this just for those songs, but you also get AOR hits "Hey Operator", "To Feel the Feeling Again", "You Ain't Got Me", and "Stand Up". It's unfortunate you can't listen to clips of these songs, because Coney Hatch is full of catchy riffs and choruses.

These guys are from Canada, but present a great talent on all of their music. If you've heard them and like them, this is a great start. On the other hand, if you are looking for something new with a good sound, try BEST OF THREE. You won't regret it!

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent sounding 80's rock band album........1999-04-22

I first purchased this group on Album, and listened to it often. I remember liking the power riffs and sound/vocals this band produced.

The album has since dissappeared, and I want this title back in my music catalog.

Thank-you. Jeff Cunningham

5 out of 5 stars has dark tones with crisp suttle bass.......1999-04-16

this band created a sound of the new wave but with the same constant baet of rock and roll. It is unfortunate that this band is no longer around to pump out some of the finist music that is worthy of being purchase with money.

5 out of 5 stars Coney Hatch, baby!!!.......2005-07-05

Man, I love this stuff...and I miss this type o' music. For those of you who haven't heard Coney Hatch, If I were to try and compare who Coney Hatch sounds like I guess I'd have to say maybe April Wine from the era of "Harder Faster" or "Nature Of The Beast". I believe both bands are canadian and this album came out in 1982 about the same time as the aforementioned April Wine albums...so maybe that explains the similarities. Hatch is stripped down, all-out pure rock n' roll. In my opinion, this is their best album...followed closely by their second album, "Outta Hand". Their third album, "Friction" was a little too keyboard friendly for my taste...I guess the record company was tryin' to make them into pop stars...but yet, "Friction" is still a good album. In any case, this album kicks in with "Devil's Deck" which is just a great song and it ends with a great song in "Monkey Bars". Everything in between is just great...I love it all. One thing I do remember about Coney Hatch though, is that it took awhile to grow on me. I mean, right from the start I loved "Devil's Deck", "I'll Do The Talkin'" and "Hey Operator"...but the rest took a few more listenings. Especially "Monkey Bars" which seemed repetitive and dull until...I guess...one day I caught the groove and realized everytime I heard the song I would hum it all day long. Okay, 'nuff said, buy this cd...play it to death...you'll love it.

5 out of 5 stars Marshalls on 10.......2002-11-17

First time I heard of this group was around 82 while in California employed by Uncle Sam. Catchy tunes with a sense of humor. Devil's Deck was the first tune I had ever heard by them which was receiving radio play back then. Steve Shelski's soloes have a hint of Kim Mitchell influence but I also hear a bit of Randy Rhoads vibe on Love Poison. Over the years I have turned a few friends onto this band. No hair or speed metal here dudes, just really good early 80's hard rock.
This album is my favorite but the others have some great tunes on them as well.

5 out of 5 stars VICTIM OF ROCK.......2002-03-01

To start with let me say, if you are looking for a good sampling of Coney Hatch you should try BEST OF THREE. To me the individual discs are better to have if you are already familiar with the bands works. I must admit, I picked up the bands first album in the early 80's simply because of the great cover art. The music inside was just as spectacular as the artwork outside. Coney Hatch is a 4 piece from Canada signed to Anthem Records, at that time Mercury in the U.S.. Of course, Anthem was the home to Rush and Max Webster. Coney Hatch didn't have the specatacular shows or crazy costumes, but they played great straight forward rock, which, to me, seemed aimed right at radio airplay. The songs weren't too long and drawn out and there was nothing to have to edit out.

The music speaks better for itself than sales and airplay did, however. The main reason for buying this disc and not settling for their BEST... are the songs "Love Poison", "No Sleep Tonight", "We Got the Night", and "I'll Do the Talkin'". There is no problem with the songs that made BEST OF THREE, but these songs are definitely great works by the band. There are catchy riffs and choruses throughout Coney Hatch's works and this first release is a definite plus to any collection. The songs from the hits package are "Devil's Deck", "Stand Up", their biggest hit "Hey Operator", and my favorite "You Ain't Got Me". Do yourself a favor and get Coney Hatch. There is also the bonus track "Dreamland" on this CD. Sometimes simple is better!

5 out of 5 stars Coney Hatch Fun Rock.......2000-07-13

This album is a must if your a 80 rocker. Devil's Deck cooks and Monkey Bars is very fun. Must buy.
