What a beautiful collection of songs. To have them remastered so they are crisp and clear is wonderful! I find it so enjoyable to listen to as I'm driving. You can't go wrong with this CD.
Carly Simon: Touched By The Sun.....Goddess.......2007-07-01
Wow, what a great talent she is. Has thirtysome years really slipped by since I first bought the Anticipation songbook? (which I still own in mint condition I'm proud to say). This CD collection is the holly grail of Carly's work and a must have for those who "dig" (thanks Murray The K) her sound. Most everything's here on the CD which includes some truely great pictures on Carly, some which I've never seen before. Man, did she have the sexist album covers or what? Carly TRUELY ENJOYS being a woman more than any woman I have met or seen. This fact comes through in her photos like a sledgehammer. We need more woman like her! All in all a great package and a real keeper. Please buy one.
If you're only getting ONE............2007-06-16
My wife has accused me of having a crush on Carly. At least I'm not fool enough to deny it. Carly has been called the voice of my generation, and she is [along with Carole King].
This album is an hour and nineteen minutes of a pure, joy-filled journey over about thirty years, delivered in pretty much chronological order. All, or at least most, of your favorites are here. No point in discussing individual tracks; if you're reading this, you probably have them memorized. It's a good thing that "Better Not Tell Her" is not about me.
I have all of Carly's records. Not everybody will care to. Sad. If you only want one, start here. You will probly get hooked, and want them all.[Unfortunately, a couple are tough to find]. Carly's voice has actually improved with time, and every girl should be lucky enough to have her looks at 60. Essential album.

Just possibly the luckiest pop musician in history (replacing hapless Pete Best in the Beatles on the eve of their EMI signing and the unprecedented fame that followed), Ringo Starr wasted no time carving out his own comfortable--and surprisingly successful--post-Fabs career in the early 1970s. This concise greatest-hits package (ostensibly a contractual-filling farewell to his longtime label) compiles all of the drummer's top 10 hits, including the evergreen smashes "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen," as well as the hit singles "It Don't Come Easy" and "Back Off Boogaloo." The charming B-side "Early 1970" (chronicling the contemporary lives of three of Starr's suspiciously familiar musician friends) is also included. It may shortchange Ringo's lovingly quirky early country & western and Tin Pan Alley collections (Beaucoups of Blues and Sentimental Journey, respectively), but it's still a great choice for hit-hungry fans. --Jerry McCulley

Ringo.......2007-05-12
If you like Ringo this is the only CD you will need to buy. It has all of his best songs (and there are quite a few) and they are the studio recordings-not the lame live recordings of his music. Don't get me wrong-I love Ringo live but he should have the monkeys who record his live shows flogged!! Actually I should not have said monkeys-it is an insult to them as they would have done a far better job recording Ringo's concerts that the inept humans who were hired to do this job. Enough of my ranting though-if you like Ringo buy this CD it is the only one you will need for your Ringo collection!!! It is awesome!!
ITS BLAST FROM YOUR PAST WITH RINGO AND HIS FAMOUS NO NO SONG........2007-02-04
Readers and reviewers, I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" by one of Rock's greatest personalities who just so happens to be an Ex-Beatle. I give you one of England's favorite sons and pride and joy's, Mr. Richard Starkey or should I say, MR. RINGO STARR. "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" was originally released in 1976 on vinyl/LP and cassette on the infamous Capitol Records in association with EMI Records and Parlophone Records. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or its legendary artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
What can I say about the legendary RINGO STARR that hasn't already been said? RINGO STARR has graced us with his many talents and his most recent tours to this very day. RINGO STARR would begin his early career as a drummer from Liverpool, England as part of THE FAB FOUR or should I say THE BEATLES. When THE BEATLES broke up in 1970, RINGO would try his hand at not only a solo career, but as an actor. In the early 70's, RINGO was extremely successful at both but would slowly fade away until the movie CAVEMAN was made and released in 1981. CAVEMAN would also star Dennis Quaid, Shelley Long, John Matuszak and RINGO'S wife Barbara Bach. However, RINGO'S solo music career did have some fine moments. "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" are the results of those moments. In my opinion, "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" is a very up lifting and positive album which contains some very funny songs.
I will list and review certain song tracks contained in this compilation album. It is extremely hard for me to choose any one song track over the other. However, due to trying to shorten this review as much as posible, I will only list certain song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: (1.) "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful And You're Mine)," (This is a wonderful Ringo Starr song that brings back the spirit of the 50's music. Ringo sings this song perfectly to the bone.) (2.) "No No Song/Skokiaan," (I love this song. This is my most favorite RINGO STARR song. I love the lyrics to this song. The lyrics are so funny, we can all pretty much relate to it, at least I can. RINGO sings this song with such emotion like he truly means it. I love it when RINGO sings the chorus "AND I SAID NO NO NO NO I DON'T (Sniff) NO MORE, I'M TIRED OF WAKING UP ON THE FLOOR, NO THANK YOU PLEASE IT ONLY MAKES ME SNEEZE, AND THEN IT MAKES IT HARD TO FIND THE DOOR. Enough said.) (3.) "It Don't Come Easy," (I love this up beat song. This song is produced by George Harrison. RINGO sings this song with such power that you can almost feel the rough times in his voice what it was like being an BEATLE in the early days.) (4.) "Photograph," (This is another up beat song that RINGO delivers a fine lead vocal performance. This song is co-written with George Harrison.) (6.) "Only You (And You Alone)" (This is another beautiful song sung by RINGO. Ringo sings this song like he is naturally flowing his happy and rejoicing voice from the gut and through the microphone. I love this song.) and (8.) "Oh My My." (This is another beautiful song sung by RINGO. Listening to these songs gives you the feeling that RINGO was indeed, an extremely talented individual. It doesn't surprise me that all four BEATLES were extremely talented in their own right.) The other songs such as "Back Off Boogaloo," "Beaucoups Of Blues," "Early 1970" and "I'm The Greatest" are also good songs that are great contributions from George Harrison and John Lennon. Overall, this is a very entertaining album which has some funny humor to it.
I would like to encourage everybody to purchase this album to own as part of their valuable music collection. This legendary compilation album will definitely stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, RINGO STARR is here to stay. With the deaths of JOHN LENNON and GEORGE HARRISON, we now realize that a BEATLES reunion is now out of the question. RINGO STARR and PAUL MCCARTNEY are now all that remains of the original FAB FOUR. We as fans should enjoy them while they're still here while we still can. Here's to you RINGO. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. Keep On Rockin'. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. THE BEATLES FOREVER. RINGO RULES. R.I.P John Lennon and George Harrison. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.
It's a Blast!.......2007-01-06
I docked this a star for the cd being so short. Back when this was released on vinyl, 10 or 11 songs was fine, but on CD it seems skimpy. Anyway, if you remember Ringo's big hits of the early 70's, they're pretty much all here, and they all sound great. Maybe a more complete retrospective will be released someday, but for now, if you need to hear "The No No Song," or "It Don't Come Easy," go ahead and pick this up.
Having a BLAST listening to Ringo.......2006-11-10
Love this CD. I especially like hearing songs I haven't heard before, like Early 1970, all about Ringo and the lads. Ringo is still my favorite Beatle!
Good, but incomplete.......2006-11-03
This is just a song-for-song release of the 1976 album. It only has 10 songs and is woefully incomplete. The orignal album was even missing a few songs that were hits before the album was release including Oo-Wee (which was a Top 40 hit), Snookeroo (which was the B-side of the No No Song, but received enough air play for it to be listed as a double sided hit), and Goodnight Vienna, which also received a fair amount of air play in 1975. It does have some great songs like Photograph, It Don't Come Easy, and Back Off Boogaloo, but it is long past time for an update. Ringo has had some good stuff since this album was released. Time to either release an all new greatest hits package spanning his entire solo career or do a new edition of this with bonus tracks!

The masterminds behind this feel-good collection of swing and modern-rock staples must have gained much inspiration from this movie's main character (portrayed by the amicable Brendan Fraser), a twentysomething male who's just entered '90s aboveground society for the first time after being raised in his parents' bomb shelter. Nearly all of the tracks here, though culled from established chart-topping albums from radio darlings like the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Everclear, are on the stale side, as if chosen by someone who hasn't watched MTV for the past year. Pop offerings like Dishwalla's risk-free "Pretty Babies" is from the band's 1995 glory days (remember "Counting Blue Cars"?), while the abundant inclusion of swing was probably influenced by a high-level exec's viewing of a Gap khakis ad. All in all, the soundtrack aims for Gen-X soft spots--harmless, saccharine pop vocals and party faves like R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World As We Know It"--but there's little here that hasn't already been mined by commercial radio. --Kristy Ojala
Customer Reviews:
Correct Song.......2006-07-06
The song several people have mentioned is by Dean Martin not Perry Como. The name of the song is "You Belong to Me". It's a shame it was left off the CD. BTW....this song has been covered by quite a few artists. Patsy Cline does it nicely.
Love the big band music.
Common Sense People.......2006-06-10
Is it not possible that there are MORE THAN ONE Perry Como songs in this movie? The movie is fabulous and the music incredible. The Como song included on the CD IS in the movie, they just didn't include the other two from the film. Many of the other, less positive (many downright negative!) reviewers seem to think that the goal of this soundtrack was to provide Perry Como's greatest hits. It is a SOUNDTRACK. The producers of this CD simply took a well-rounded collection of songs that were played during the movie.
This is a great collection of the songs that make the movie as good as it is. The swing music is great for dancing, while the others exude a feeling of well being similar to that of the movie. I would strongly recommend this CD.
Where are the romantic perry como songs.......2005-02-25
Very dissappointed to find that the producers of this CD, did not include the most romantic part of the movie song in this compilation.
'OPn the Street where you Live', was the romantic high point of this movie, as sung by Perry Como, and it is not included here on this CD.
Very, Very dissapointing........who compiled this CD anyway? They really missed the boat and the extra sales.
Correct Perry Como song.......2003-11-06
If you are looking for the correct Perry Como song it is "Round and Round" from his Greatest Hits.
Blasting tunes.......2001-07-13
This is full of fun and energetic music. "Mr. Zoot Suit" by the Flying Neutrinos and "So Long Toots" by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies have a hip-hop dance beat to them. Sonichrome, Block, Dishwalla, Everclear, and R.E.M are very cool. "A Little Belief" is a beautiful ballad and the love theme for Adam and Eve is inspiring. I would recommend this awesome soundtrack to anyone.

METAL BLAST FROM THE PAST (ACCEPT)
Customer Reviews:
can't believe how much stuff they packed onto this one disc.......2007-02-15
The Good
The centerpiece of this DVD is a documentary on Accept that was originally released on home video years ago. It chronicles the band's rise to fame as well as their life on the road. Intertwined with the documentary is a live performance of Accept at their peak from Osaka, Japan in 1985 than includes 11 of their best tracks (at the time), and most of their music videos. The performance is one of their best, and the documentary is insightful. You can watch the music videos separately from the main potion of the DVD. You will also get to see videos that go beyond 1985.
One of the videos that surprised was "Generation Clash." I honestly had no idea that Accept tried the hair/pop metal thing after Udo departed. It sounds nothing like them. Another one that was interesting was "Protectors of Terror." Udo made his return to the group and Accept tried to cover up the hair metal thing by getting harder and a little controversial. The "Behind the Scenes" section focuses on band interviews from the Osaka period. It's rather short. In an effort to get closer to a modern day version of Accept, you get a three song performance from one of their reunion gigs on 1993.
A discography is included, but this is one of the more interesting one's I've seen. With each album you click on you get to hear at least two song samples from it. If you don't want to click album to album, there's a separate section for just the music samples. An extensive biography is include as well as links to all of the member's websites. There's still no official Accept website. This DVD release is actually dual sided. On the flip side is an audio section. Unlike most concert DVDs, you're not getting an audio version of the live show. Accept actually give you nine previously unreleased tracks. Most are demos and from the "Breaker" album.
The Bad
I would have liked a more current documentary.
The Verdict
I can't believe how much stuff they packed onto this one disc. Some Accept fans may be a little miffed because they are recycling some old material, but overall you get a lot of Accept history. Everything I didn't know about Accept from their hey-day was cleared up on the DVD. I found that most of bonus features were interesting (which is a rarity). The song samples helped me decide which Accept albums I want to check out next. This is a Metal Blast that you simply cannot ignore.
!!! EXCELLENT STUFF FROM ACCEPT !!!.......2006-06-08
ACCEPT FANS A MUST HAVE THIS DVD - KILLER STUFF !!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL ACCEPT FANS !!!

Customer Reviews:
Best of, as voted by you!.......2007-05-26
Now this is a cool marketing move/way of doing things. After ten years of Gamma Ray we get the best of album. but with a twist. The bands fans voted for their favourite three tracks on each GR album and the ones with the most votes got either remixed or totally re-recorded by the bands new line up. This is both an excellent idea based around the concept of interactive fan-dom but also somewhat of a bugbear. More on that later...
But to start with this collection is a pretty good selection of tunes. For the record all of disc 1 and tracks 1-3 on disc 2 are new recordings. Songs 4-10 of the second disc are remastered versions. And it's hard to argue with songs like Lust for Life, Heaven Can Wait and Changes. Sure, Ralf sang 'em much better than Kai but they really do stand up regardless. Also the production is a tiny bit shiner circa 2000, but I don't recall the original production jobs being that shabby.
For dedicated fans it's perhaps best to peruse the track listing before taking the plunge. As kai says in the brief liner notes he didn't think that people should pay for tunes they alread owned. So for long time fans that's probably a bonus. My version is a digipack - which equates to annoying cardboard packaging that wears away especially on the spine. The 28 page booklet is a nifty addition and again indicative of the desire on the bands part to put in the extra quality. And that feel does transfer over into a bit of a warm glow towards the tunes that never let up their attack - melodic speed rocker after melodic speed rocker churning out of your speakers with Kai's reasonable though limited vox laid over the top.
Of course having redone the tunes the drama is that they have all end up sounding the same! Also no Ralf on vox - it avoides Kai having to compare himself to his former bandmate but darn it all Ral is twice the singer and with all the tunes sounding similar there is a reduced ability to guage the bands progress/evolution. And the newcomer gets less of a chance to decide which part of their catalogue to start exploring first. And given that best ofs are often used by newcomers for just such purposes, GR may have done more harm than good with their decision to revamp these tunes.
Anyway, I hope those points are some food for thought for prospective buyers.
can Gamma Ray please everybody?.......2005-10-10
Gamma Ray decided it was time to put out a "best of" collection; but they did it in a pretty interesting/annoying way. first of all, they let the fans choose the songs. second, they re-recorded and even re-arranged these songs because they felt like the older versions did not represent the present sound of the band.
now, this causes a signifigant problem, in the fact that since the fans chose those songs, they obviously liked the original arrangements (or else i don't think they would have chosen them for inclusion on their favorite power metal band's "best of" collection). so imagine a Gamma Ray fanboy whose favorite song is "Beyond The Black Hole." he wants to hear "Beyond The Black Hole" on this record! ...but instead he is, in a way, slapped in the face with a "I know you chose this song, but we are going to totally rework this song so that it only vaguely resembles your old favorite song...enjoy!" response from the band. you see how it could get ugly. haha.
but....
well...i don't have the original version of "Beyond The Black Hole" (or any of these songs on this 2cd set, for that matter) to compare it to, but it's cool to see this band giving new versions of the songs so that fans who already do own all the originals don't feel cheated of their hard earned cash to buy this set. see how it works?
everybody happy now? ok.
This is quality power metal heavy on the hooks and the catchy melodies. silly lyrics and even sillier cover art. but it's freaking Gamma Ray! it would be even sillier if the cover art wasn't silly. know what i mean? if you're not a fan of this band, one listen to "Lust For Life" and "Heaven Can Wait" might change your mind.

Album Description
Former Truly (Sub Pop, Capitol) frontman Robert Roth's solo debut, "Someone, Somewhere
," is an uncompromising statement of artistic dedication. Equal parts Brian Wilson detail, Flaming Lips experimentation, Spiritualized bombast, and Tom Verlaine geometry, Roth's soulful drawl and unshakeable soaring melodies weave together washes of haunted guitars, mellotron-soaked soundscapes, and warped orchestral passages into an ageless epic that differentiates itself from imitations.
Devil in the Woods Magazine hailed "Someone, Somewhere
" as a "truly timeless creation," and said "Roth's work overwhelms listeners one moment, then pacifies them in starkly bare passages seconds later. It echoes nearly every great blast of sound from the past 50 years, not in the order of its chords, but in its ability to shake listeners from their complacency."
On his own for the first time, Roth's fierce yet elegant songwriting takes center stage. "Someone, Somewhere
" plays like a movie, putting you on a first-name basis with characters like "Vicki and Jacky" as they move between urban decay and gentrification ("Walk All Over Downtown Life"), stumbling into the violence and chaos of Seattle's millennium-closing WTO riots ("Streetplay `99") into the rolling blackouts of both U.S. Coast's ("Blackout City Serenade") and the personal alienation that accompanies living in a world clouded over by the harsh order of 9/11's cultural aftermath ("Relive These X," "Under the Ever-Watchful Eye," and "Yesterday's War").
Roth's work is personal but it also connects the personal to the political in the most subtly persuasive way. Avoiding lectures or preaching, he just recounts the low-level battles creeping everyday outside his front door. Somewhere between Thoreau's "Walden" and Zinn's "A People's History of the United States," Someone, Somewhere's ultimate effect is simultaneously unsettling and empowering. It reminds us that there are some compromises we must simply refuse to make.

The Beginning of Something Beautiful.......2004-06-11
When music is good it's a wonderful thing; better than any drug, any amount of material things.... anything!! Robert Roth has been making good music for years with former band Truly, and has therefore heeped a mountain of pressure on himself to deliver with this, his first solo outing. Being a fan of his past works I have to confess I was apprehensive.
But you know what? The boy dun good!!!!
From beginning to end this album is filled with songs which never leave your head. From the mellow Lighting and Thunder, to the faster harder Relive These X, to the subtle title track, to the dark pop of Poison Arrow, 'Someone, Somewhere' is truly a great album, filled with dramatic soundscapes, and layer upon layer of keyboards and guitars intertwining to form beautiful melodies. Roth has outgrown the early Seattle sounds of his past and has broken through into something more rounded. You can hear any great musician from the last 20 years in here if you listen hard enough.
Go get this!!! You will never forget the day you bought it. It'll be the beginning of the rest of your life. AL

TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY........2006-11-21
This band has great talent but the album was totaly flat their intent is noticable but not felt, the musical arrangement was horrible and i was REALLY LET DOWN,especially for the price i paid i would have been better spending it on any other album. I give them 1 star for effort but thats about all they will get out of me.I expected alot more especially since they talked about the "OLD SCHOOL SALSA FEEL" it felt alot like reggeaton beat...the same beat over and over and over.
The Bomb Diggity.......2003-07-18
YO!!! For all you salsa lovers out there, this album is THE BOMB/OFF THE HOOK....The music will groove you the way only your heart and feet can understand....Buy the album you won't regret it....Peace Out, Salsa Lovers
