5 out of 5 stars If you like ...And Justice For All.......2007-05-26

This is better than ...And Justice For All and it's like that album on steroids with a REAL SINGER!! Great purchase!

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 great stuff.......2007-05-09

Classic... Hypnotized and Morbid Curiosity crush! Killer cd from the old days of thrash metal. A big improvement over their "Breaking the Silence" cd. Must have

5 out of 5 stars Stronger than all.......2007-02-12

Heathen is one of the best thrash bands to have come out of the Bay area scene. These guys are so underated that its criminal. Exceptional talent through all of the songs, ripping solos and devistating riffs. The singer has one of the best, clean voices (not growling) in the genra. And if you like the high pitched screem thing then that tops it off. These guys be puttin shti like Metallica to shame. A true thrash fan needs this, and if the price has kept you from getting it, every penny would be worth it since this is priceless.

5 out of 5 stars Another Awesome Album By This Band.......2006-02-17

Wow,another awesome album by Heathen, this being their second release, still not as good as Breaking The Silence in my opinion but still worth every penny.
The solos what's again rule on this album.
They cover Rainbow's Kill The King on this album and do a good job as well.
If you have Breaking The Silence then you would know that they have a song called Heathen on that album, well on this album they have a song called Heathen's Song which is the same but they changed it a bit,it's a ballad but then it gets heavy.
They have another ballad on this album which is just weired because it's not their style, you can't picture them doing this song.
Here are the songs in order and what I rate them as out of five stars.
Hypnotized-5/5
Opiate The Masses-5/5
Heathen's Song-5/5
Kill The King-5/5
Fear Of The Unknown-5/5
Prisoners Of Fate-3/5
Morbid Curiosity-5/5
Guitarmony-4/5
Mercy Is No Virtue-5/5
Timeless Cell Of Prophecy-5/5
If you like thrash and you don't have this album, then this is the right album for you.

4 out of 5 stars Good thrash.......2004-06-03

I first bought this album when it came out in 1991. I no longer own the album even though I liked it. What I remember about the album was that it was very tight but the songs were extremely long in length. I'd love to purchase it again but not at the price it is going for now. I also saw Heathen in support of this album back in 91 with Sepultura and Sacred Reich...they put on a very good live show. Definitely an album that is a keeper to any thrash collection.

5 out of 5 stars If you love Metallica you will love this.......2004-01-27

On of the best Trash albums ever.

5 out of 5 stars One word- WOW!.......2003-05-27

Too bad the scale only goes to five stars... Up until a few days ago, I thought that bands like Metallica were as thrashy as they come. Now, since I've listened to these guys, thrash metal has taken on a more refined definition. Heathen combines some downright heavy thrash with Judas Priest's harmonizing guitars, booming drums and a Bruce Dickinson-like vocalist. However, it's not just mindless, blazing guitars, either. The lyrics are powerful and relevant to today's twisted society. "Hypnotized" condemns televangelists- "Fools give money to the church, to earn their place with God..." and "Morbid Curiosity" explores the media's attraction to death and suffering of other people. The songs have a good variation in their sound and the music changes pace constantly. For more intelligent thrash, buy this album. There's no dissapoinment involved, especially if you still think Kirk Hammett can play fast.

5 out of 5 stars Thrash Metal.......2006-08-20

I believe that Heathen is a very strange beast in the sense that you either love it or you hate it. The reason is because they might remind you a bit of Metallica's early days. Also, the singer, David White, sometime is a bit monotonous. But, unlike Metallica, Heathen's lyrics are not corny--yes Metallica's lyrics are juvenile, and corny--and, most importantly, unlike Metallica, Heathen know how to play their instrument--yes that's right, technically speaking Metallica sucks!

5 out of 5 stars A severely and criminally overlooked album and band........2006-07-26

Heathen first caught my ear when this album was released. What I like most about it is the fact that the music was really heavy, almost heavy enough to be death metal but they also had a melodic singer with a good range. In the cookie monster vocal infested slew of metal bands today, I really miss these days, when a vocalist could actually sing. A buddy of mine made me a copy of "Breaking the Silence" and I didn't really like it as much. This one, though is definitely a classic.
Oh, and one more thing. The reason why the list price is $40 is because this is an import version. When you open Amazon, do a search for Heathen. You'll see another version of this album that only costs $17. Just thought I'd point that out.

5 out of 5 stars Heathen is up here/Metallica down here.......2005-10-24

I have all three heathen albums the first one breaking the silence (great debut produced by none other then Ronnie Montrose)every song rocks and the guitars make kirk and james sit up and take notice(again help from Ronnie!)I love the singer a mix of geoff tate and bruce dickinson in early days of their careers, music much like early metallica and fates warning great changes and crunching rhythms!if you don't have all three releases i highly recomend you get them! The third release is recovered and is just as good as the early stuff! there are four covers and I think two new songs and some rerecordings of a couple old songs!

4 out of 5 stars A + Super Hybrid.......2005-04-10

I would say more of a mix of early Iron Maiden (up through Number or Piece) & early Metallica (through Ride & Master), with maybe a hint of Triumph thrown in. The lead singer doesn't have the range or intensity of Dickenson or Halford (up through Stained Class) in their prime but still works well with the music. The cover of Blackmores Rainbow "Kill The King" is interesting.

It is true Heathen rocks. I have had this CD for a long time but had not listened to it; it is now front and center again. If you like your music to hit you hard, buy it now & play it loud (on a quality system). When I purchased it (about ten years ago) I didn't pay 40$ though.

5 out of 5 stars WOW...How havnen't I heard of these guys?.......2005-02-06

HOLY CRAP...this band kicks total ass. The music is a cross, at least on this album, of Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" and Anthrax's "Among the Living". The production is straight off "...And Justice For All". The double bass sounds like it should be from One or something. The vocals...almost sounds dead-on like Joey Belladonna from "I am the Law".

Ok, past the references...the music is great. The guitar leads are some of the best thrash has to offer. The only complaint, as with most thrash albums, is the lack of bass guitar sound.

Get this, it's great.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best metal albums!!.......2004-01-05

I've been looking for the CD version of this album since a couple of years ago. Been looking for it in the US and Australia but it seemed impossible to get in the stores. They are virtually unheard of now, but it is a big loss for those who didn't have the chance to listen to them. Luckily I've got this album in cassette format which I bought back in 1993, but I still would like to purchase the CD. To those who live for metal, get it while you can.
The cover of "Kill The King" is a killer! "Guitarmony" makes you wanna play the air guitar. I don't have firm favourite from the CD but if I were to choose, it would be "Heathen's Song". Perfect time changes and melodic as well but still metal.

5 out of 5 stars Heathen : "Thrash Metal's Best Kept Secret".......2003-08-09

There's only one word to describe this...MASTERPIECE.

Don't bother with Metallica, Exodus, or Megadeth. Heathen makes them all look like nothing but mediocre garage bands. The music here on "Victims Of Deception" is far better than anything those bands have ever released IMO...

It's speedy, intelligent, and very powerful. Heathen is what I'd like to consider the Iron Maiden of Thrash. It's simply better than anything that came out of the Bay Area. The only band that could hold a candle to these guys was Forbidden. They rule!!!....

This is an expensive purchace, but it's worth every single penny if you ask me. If you've never heard Heathen, you in for a wonderful surprise. They are the best kept secret in Thash Metal. It's a shame they never gained the high respect they deserved, because they were better than just about every other band that ever came out of the Bay Area, and made it big....

While average Bay Area bands like Metallica, Exodus, and Megadeth were all making it big, the more talented bands like Heathen / Forbidden / and Death Angel were't getting anything. They were simply left out. They may have been left out, but they will never be forgotten....

Don't think about it. Buy it. After you buy this, go and buy everything Forbidden has released. After that, go and buy everything Death Angel has released. Within a very short time, you'll wonder why you never did it sooner....I promise.

UP THE IRONS!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Do you like late 80's to early 90's metal?.......2003-01-28

Okay, if you're looking for a great album, this is it! If you like Anthrax and Metallica, you'll be quite satisfied. The album sounds like ...And Justice For All on steroids with the chugging sound of Anthrax's guitars, along with the talent of James Hetfield's guitar style. But, just when you think that's all there is to offer with this album, then the album takes off with even faster thrash beats along with more complicated rhythums that make you want to throw a table through a second story window!! I give this album two thumbs up for thrashing hard and not showing mercy! Metal at it's finest!!!

4 out of 5 stars skillful speed/thrash metal from the 80's.......2001-03-13

melodramatic, operatic 80's speed metal. clever songwriting, dynamic playing - occasionally brilliant. vocals can take some getting used-to, however once adjusted- talented & enjoyable. come back 80's metal... all is forgiven!
