A nice effort..........2005-12-20
I've been a Whitesnake fan for quite a long time already, but what can I say about this album? As far as I'm concerned David Coverdale has done an amazing work in whatever he's ever been involved with...So this album doesn't fail my expectations at all...All of the songs flow really well and sound great too even if they're in a stripped down format, which means that as artists they have good dynamics (meaning that they're able to make the songs any way they desire)..Plus as mr.Coverdale confesses in the inner sleeve of the album and in many interviews, their songs are written in acoustic guitars,so everything must have come out quite naturally..
Apart from some "mistakes" (not really that traceable) that are natural to live performances (of this kind especially) that mr.Vandenberg does,it sounds really live and straightforward, which I'd describe it(if I was allowed to lend a description of a previous reviewer)as if it is actually played in your own room,or house for that matter..So good are the production values of the album itself..
Ending this "review" I'm gonna finish with one other line of the inner sleeve:Fast,Slow,Loud or Soft as long as the integrity and emotional essence is intact...And this live album has both of those traits...
It's like having David and Adrian in your living room!.......2002-12-26
Awesome, it's a very interesting CD, but it's not completely diferent from what Whitesnake did as i've been reading, but it's too damn good. My hint: Take a woman to your house, play this CD, open the wine and the rest... well the rest you know.....
If you don't know or don't like whitesnake, try this one first. Sure you will love it.
Sit back and relax to Whitesnake!.......2000-07-05
I never thought I would be using the words "relax" and "Whitesnake" in the same sentence, but there you have it. An outstanding live, acoustic album. This is probably the best one I've ever heard. It's a great example of how simple can really be better. David singing and Adrian on guitar and nothing else! The small audience and the intimate setting only serves to heighten the feeling of David singing live in your living room! A great album to relax to and soothe your nerves after a hard day. As a side note, I understand that David also performed "Fool For Your Loving" which was not included on this album for some reason. He also attempted Adrian's "Burning Heart," but this was not included as he forgot the words!
excellent accoustic session.......2000-04-24
Very very good! Coverdale can still sing! Adrian played accoustic guitar peacefully...enjoyable and relaxing music! I still love one old song of Deep Purple number (during Coverdale days in the 70) "Soldier of fortune". What a lovely song ballad! David Coverdale is a Hard rock singer who has combinated the cool sound between Deep Purple and Zeppelin. I think he did not mean to copy Robert Plant style on his new band Whitesnake, he just only combinated the Deep Purple and Zeppelin sound together. the result is brain melting
NOW THIS IS UNPLUGGED!.......1999-12-22
Wow, this is one killer live album. There is no drums, no bass, no keyboards, no back-up vocals, just a single voice and a single guitar. Whitesnake has been around just over 20 years since this release, and it proves to be one of David Coverdale's finest. Yea, his voice doesn't have it's range like it did in the 80's, but he can still melt your heart when he sings them ballads. Not surprisingly, that what Starkers In Toyko contains most of, slow blues burners and late 80's ballads, with a few newer tunes thrown in. It opens with Sailing Ships(one of the two here from Slip of the Tongue), a relaxing rendition that sets the tone for most of the show. Slipping next into the mournful Too Many Tears(1 of 3 Restless Heart songs, I also revieve that awesome album), David pouring his heart and emotion into the song. About halfway through, from 1987's S/T album comes the show rev-upper Give Me All Your Love, and the audience loving it. The last three songs are excellent, Is This Love, the heavy Here I Go(which is about the fastest song performed) and Solider of Fortune. The latter being a lovely addition, digging into his Purple bag of tricks. As for the guitar player, Adrian Vandenberg(hot-shot 80's guitar virtuoso) he is fantastic all the way, not to mention David's perfect guitar player. All-in-all , a relaxing, comfortable listen that will soothe you from a rough day. The only track that would have been perfect for this would have been Slow n' Easy, after one listen to this, you'll know why!

Superb, everyone should have a copy of this!.......2003-03-26
This album is great, its a live recording but not one wrong note by either Coverdale or Vandenberg. Superb to just sit down and listen too. I would stongly recommend this to any Whitesnake fan. Takes great songs from their career and puts them on to one vocal and one guitar. People who like Whitesnake will love this but people who have not heard Whitesnakes stuff before should buy a different album first.
