Very good release of a new version of a classic.......2007-08-02
Didn't want to get it when I first heard about it. Believed it would be just a soft remix that would not sound much different than the original. Listened to a few songs and gave it a try. Excellent remix. Songs brings back memories of when I listened to the original regularly years ago but a nice twist to each of the songs.
wow.......2007-05-14
i was blown away when i listen to this album for the first time. the melodies are just astounding. every song on this album stands out. now i know people say this album isn't as good as the original. i think this album is just as good if not better. while the original had the emotion, this one has that and the clearity. i'm not sure if that makes them less "black metal" because its clearer on the re-recording but i could care less. in my eyes theres only good music and bad music.
Outstanding Remake!! The BEST Dimmu Line-up EVER!!! Plus plenty of extras!!.......2007-04-15
As if Dimmu Borgir could not possibly get any better....They return from the Abyss (studio) with a TERRIFIC masterpiece of Re-make of their second album "Stormblast". With a truely ALL STAR LINE-UP featuring the absolutely AMAZING Hellhammer (MAYHEM,ARCTURUS) on drums!!!Old fans and new alike will appreciate this album from beginning to end. The album recording and engineering is absolutely CRYSTAl clear versus the original low buget sound on the original release. With the same lineup as the last 2 releases (with the exception of Hellhammer) You already know You are getting top of the line musicianship from the the start. As some of You new Fans may have noted by the song titles this album is NOT in English like the previous ones (with the exception of "FOR ALL TID" and the original "Stormblast") but don't let that bother You or sway You away from buying this release. Just like the original release Shagrath handles all the lead vocals with plenty of anger and is probably some of His BEST vocals to date!!!Fans of Vortex's clean vocals need not worry He can be heard doing backup harmonies mixed in with Mustis's TERRIFIC classical Keyboard sounds. Vortex does an oustanding job on playing Bass on this album and can be heard doing alot of technical work to match the almighty Hellhammer's drum work through the entire album. Silenoz returns again providing the Band with His Super Heavy guitar sound and incredibly technical guitar work. There are so many rhythm changes on this album You find it hard to believe the Band can play all this without getting lost and makes Me think back to Iron Maiden's classic days of Epic records and genius song writing (ie;"Piece Of Mind" and "Powerslave").Still not sold on this album yet? check out track #8 "Antikrist" for a perfect example of what I mean. But wait there's more!!!....Along with this awsome CD You also get a BONUS DVD that totaly rocks and proves these guys are oustanding musicians on stage as well as in the studio and You also get on the American release 2 Bonus tracks that perfectly matched and blend in with the albums theme and sound!!!Not to mention a limited addition patch for You Dimmu collectors and a promo poster!!Try and find a deal like this with most other bands. You simply can't go wrong with the NEW release of "STORMBLAST".If You like Your Black Metal Medieval,Cold,Dark, and Frosty then don't hesitate. This is truely a fantastic release by a VERY talented group of musician's while We wait for their next studio album (which will also feature this line-up on a permanent basis). If You enjoy this album I urge You to check out Dimmu's other releases as well (ie: "Spiritual Black Dimensions", "P.E.M.","DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON",and "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant".From the Band that introduced America to the Icelandic word for Dark Castle (Dimmu Borgir) comes another truely perfect Metal album. HAIL DIMMU!!!!!!
dimmu is now cradle 2... but with helhammer, i wonder.......2006-11-19
Hellhammer is also recording with Dimmu for their next album. Apparently some things really meshed with this remake and hopefully Dimmu can come back to their once unquestionable glory. aside from that, i can't add anything that hasn't been said by those with the top reviews for this product/recording. The original Stormblast and For All Tid are masterpieces of black metal... and even i hate to admit it, but i like one of their albums since then (can't remember if it's Enthrone or Puritanical) but i'm not going to say it's black metal, per se. just like Cradle... Cradle's first album was great and it WAS black metal. but somehow, someway, they lost it and went... i still can't explain it or put my finger on it... but it's somewhere that black metal doesn't go, shouldn't go, and is not. ?8|
Everything DIMMU does should be interesting to a DIMMU fan.......2006-10-03
Yeah ok, so the black metal purists will get all pissy and moany about stuff like this. But, the real point is that a re-done album such as Stormblast MMV (which may or may not have needed to be re-done, but who cares, it was!) is still better than most of the garbage "metal" being created today. If you're a metal purist/perfectionist Superbeing and you don't like this, what are you going to do - listen to Britney Spears (yeah, I didn't accidently spell her name right) or Quorn or Blink 751629684 or some shameless nu-metal schlock? Purists need to re-calibrate their judgment basis and just learn to support/enjoy good metal, good music, good whatever. Long live DIMMU.

Dimmu's Last Great Album.......2007-06-16
Nearly all of the songs on here are top notch in atmosphere. The opening and ending is strong. It's hard to pick the best song because most of them are all great. Don't even think about listening or buying the remake. Dimmu Borgir a few years ago thought to themselves - "Hey, why only be crap, when we can go the whole way and cover-up any traces of talent?". Then they released Stormblast MMV.
A must for any metal fan. (even if you don't apprciiate real black meta becuase this is just thatl).......2006-12-07
The most amazing black metal album I have heard yet. The sythns and the symphonic likeness is just absoultely amazing. Ah Sorgens Kammer is an awesome song, and it's just too damn bad they had to ruin such a wonderful song with a new remastered version thats sounds like new goth rock shizzle.
Seriosuly I honestly don't want to say anything, becuae this cd is just that.
Amazing.
Buy it, it's been one of the best purchases i've ever made.
Although i must admit its a shame how (if you notice) they changed their logo to the new regular letters, and than they started to suck (in comparison ofcourse) when that happened.
Again, just buy the cd, you will not be dissapointed (and if you are, well I have nothing nice to say about you).
(and also, i had no idea that song at the end was from Vivaldi, ah classical music...)
The 'good' version.......2006-10-16
I purchased this after already owning a few of the other Dimmu Borgir albums. Originally I bought it because I thought the album art was cool but after listening to it a few times I came to realize that it was far better than their other albums. It's very atmospheric and came almost unexpected. I heard they were remaking Stormblast as a complete rerecording but unfortunately that version cannot hold a candle to this one. It seems like they've lost something they had on this CD, something I don't see them regaining.
Dimmu's Best.......2006-08-22
I Love This CD, Was Defentally Worth The Price, Each Track Timelesses Folws From One To The Next, The Title Track Is By Far The Best. For True Dimmu I Would Reccomend This And The For All Tid As A Close Second, ALSO THE REMASTER SUCKS. Sad To See What Dimmu Borgir Have Turned Into Now Though
Shoddy production aside, this is a real gem........2006-07-20
"Stormblast" is widely viewed as Dimmu's best release, and I tend to agree. Shagrath's vocals are still harsh and reptilian, and the overall sound is a bit muted, which only adds to the atmosphere. "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" and later works are barely recognizable as the same band, as they completely lost that distinct frosty Northern sound that makes "Stormblast" so enjoyable.
The album's opener, "Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen," begins with a keyboard passage highlighted with light "strings" synth and progresses into the most atmospheric song in Dimmu's entire repertoire. Vocals don't really come in until beyond halfway through the song, allowing for full appreciation of the instrumentals. In my opinion, this is the best song they've written, and the 2005 re-recording does no justice to the original.
Later standouts: "Nar Sjelen Hentes Til Helvete," which is sweeping in a similar vein to "Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen;" the album's title track, which is significantly more turbulent yet manages to maintain a majestic vibe; "Dodsferd," which feels a bit folkier and more foresty (flute and owl sounds help - done TASTEFULLY mind you); and "Antikrist" with its great intro riff, by far the darkest and most sinister track on the album.
"Stormblast" carries an overall feeling of icy grandeur. No cheesy choral "goth" synths are found here, and the songs tend to stray away from standard "intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-outro" pop structure - a bonus if you don't want your music pre-chewed into a digestible formula. The guitars sound a bit buzzy and weak, but the poor production sounds like they were on a tight budget trying to sound good - unlike Darkthrone and Ildjarn et al.
An obvious necessity for Dimmu Borgir lovers, and really any fans of the genre.

POWERFUL...melodic death metal.......2007-05-04
i have bought around thirty cds over the last two months, including albums by insomnium, amorphis, dark tranquility,Bathory,in flames...i love them all . stormblast is one of the key stones in my collection, and raises the hair on my neck ..i cant compare to the original, having never heard it,or have the knowledge to dissect it note by note..all i can say is that the whole album flows and cheers my mood
Truly epic, a testament to the original.......2005-12-05
First of all I highly recommend that you hear the original version of Stormblast before listening to this album. This way you can truly appreciate what Shagrath and Silenoz have accomplished. That said, on to the review.
From the outset, "Alt lys er Svunnet Hen" gave me the chills. The overpowering intro will pull you in and not let you go for the duration of the album. For the most part the original composition of the songs was retained, which I was very happy about. "Sorgens Kammer" was the only song to be completely redone, which actually isn't a bad thing considering it was the only song on the original version that actually had good sound quality. There was really no way to improve upon it. There are other minor changes that the seasoned Dimmu listener will notice, but none of them for the worse. The new track "Avmaktslave" keeps the Stormblast feel alive, it does not sound out of place at all.
Overall a true masterpiece was created here. This new Stormblast not only retains the atmosphere of the original, but adds on a sound so epic and emotional you cannot help but be drawn in. Keep in mind this album is Dimmu Borgir circa 1995, you're not getting the next chapter to evolve from Death Cult Armageddon. This album was the predecessor to the immaculate Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, so you'll be getting an overall sound more comparable to that album. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if they did a re-do of For All Tid either. Talk about lousy production there.
The DVD from Ozzfest 2004 is a nice bonus, brought back some good memories. \m/

Essential Black Metal.......2006-01-22
When I listen to this album, it reminds me how great Black Metal can be. The music on Stormblast is absolutely amazing. Stormblast is a dark and chilling adventure into the world of Norway's Extreme Metal Scene. I believe the original release date was 1996. This album DOES NOT need to be remastered or altered in any way. The production is perfect for picture Dimmu is painting. Stormblast starts out with Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen. What a great Intro to start one of the coldest sounding albums of all time. An Erie piano Intro with keyboards in the background that is just perfect. The album is completely done in their native language. Stormblast is much different from later releases being that, it's colder and more ruff than symphonic. Stormblast has a slower and more evil sound and doesn't have clean vocals like later releases. I wish they would have never recruited Vortex. He is the reason they implemented clean vocals. They still have their epic sound but not nearly as clean as today. While it has plenty of great keyboards and piano, they are not as dominating as lets say; Spiritual Black Dimensions, etc. Sorgens Kammer is Dimmu's best Instrumental track of all time and 6 minutes long. You have to kick back and just take this track in. It's truly depressing. A must own album for all Metal Fans!
Stormblast.......2004-08-24
Despite Dimmu Borgir's new "melodic" material,Stormblast is and will always be a classic and amazing album!
The only Dimmu Borgir album worth listening to.......2002-10-10
Before Dimmu Borgir turned into cheesed out rock n roll song structured cliches, they released this seminal album of neo-classical influenced black metal. Each song is well written and is accompanied by melodic guitar riffs overidden by quite beautiful keyboards that are evident but unobtrusive. Drumming is of the technical type at times, but more on the snare which maintains a more death metal style of double-hit tension. Vocals are what you'd normally expect from a black metal band, shrieking, and monotonous but are not really so bad ... this album stands on its own and shines with artistic creativity and emotion.
STORMBLÃ...ST.......2002-08-27
This cd is the best Dimmu Borgir cd they have released, I managed to get a hold of the original too :). This is great melodic norwegian black metal, although the production is not too great (especially compared to that of PEM). The album is sung in all in thier 'mother-tongue' which creates more of a darker atmosphere. And #4 is a entire song all in piano that almost in some parts make you want to cry with the sheer beauty. My personal favourite is "Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen." The only thing bad about this album is...no guitar solos. But the song writing, etc. more than make up for it. If you get the chance buy this awesome album.
Best Dimmu Borgir up to date (and probably forever).......2002-04-03
The production may be awful, the guitars muffled, the drums weak, but there is something in Stormblast that I don't think any other Dimmu Borgir album has had: a touch of genius. This is definitely a very inspired release, with original and riveting melodies, well-measured synth/guitar-work ratio, and a chillingly realistic atmosphere. The atmospheric piano passages are marvellous. My favorite song must be the opening track. I recommend it much more than the last two LP releases and even above Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, though the latter is another album you should definitely check out. Personally, I thought that after Stormblast, Dimmu lost momentum and could have turned out much more substantial pieces, instead of just creating catchy albums with too jumbled instruments and quite cheesy melody and riffs, as Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia appears to me.
