Great Sampling Collection.......2007-07-29
Over the past thirty years, my father and I have been collecting film music on various formats--vinyl, tape, reel-to-reel, CD, recording it from the movie, even. This collection is a great starter for someone who wants to start owning movie music. Lots of big hitters, including Hermann, Barry, Conti, Mancini, and Goldsmith as well as some contemporary scores that are great, too. This is the type of collection I would make for a friend who asks "what scores should I start with?"
Six Decades of Film Music.......2007-05-13
This is film music for the classical music lover. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra presents excellent arrangements of a number of classic film themes (although several pieces of the 56 film classics selected for this 4 CD set are not orchestral arrangements, but rather specialty arrangements). Besides great film composers such as John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Ennio Morricone, and James Horner, classical composers such as Richard Strauss and Pietro Mascagni make an appearance. On several of the numbers the Crouch End Festival Chorus adds the human voice to the power of the full symphonic orchestra to create true movie magic. If you like the sound of a full symphony orchestra playing some of the most recognized themes ever written, you'll love these CDs.
Excellent collection with fine performances.......2007-03-28
Silva Screen Records, based in England, has been issuing some fine collections of film scores, more in one box than we have the right to expect. This four-CD box contains scores by many of the best writers, including Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tomkin, Kenneth J. Alford (The Bridge on the River Kwai), Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Ennio Marricone, John Barry, Nino Rota, John Williams, James Horner, and more. We can all think of additional film scores we wished were included, but then there's no way this collection could be all-inclusive. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, supplemented by Crouch End Festival Chorus on some numbers, does a very competent job...The liner notes give the basic information without any commentary, and as far as I can see, contain only one error. Am I wrong or are tracks 9 and 10 on the fourth CD mislabeled? Track 9, which runs 7:33, seems to have the excitement of "Pirates of the Caribbean" (which I did not see) and track 10, which runs 4:22, the more sedate "The Girl with the Pearl Earring (which I also did not see). Listings seem to have them reversed.
"essential film scores from 1939 to 2004 ~ Incredible Music".......2005-05-16
When I think of the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, many composers come to mind...you gave the usher your ticket in the theater and sat down, knowingly you were going to get your moneys worth...when the curtain opened and you heard those first few notes...you sat back, watched and listened as the film score and orchestra worked their magic...now we have the ultimate from Silva Screen Classics "The Incredible Film Music Box", featuring a four disc set of the essential film scores of the past 60 years...covering several decades from 1939 through and up to the present 2004
There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classic that even the youngsters today recognize "GONE WITH THE WIND" (1939) (Max Steiner), sweeping score that captures the tragic history of the South during the Civil War, one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this, nominated by the Academy for Best Original Score...and closing on Disc 4 with "THE INCREDIBLES" (2004) (Michael Giacchino), the big hit in computer animation from Walt Disney & Pixar that once again pit Super-Heroes against the forces of evil...our family of five Supers prove crime doesn't pay, but box-office receipts do...gotta love it!
Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Bill Ashton, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens, Derek Wadsworth, and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come.
Some selections are missing, but when you think of what Silva has included, it is impossible to please everyone...was happy to see "TOUCH OF EVIL" (1958) from composer Henry Mancini, as I feel this composer deserves all the recognition that has been overlooked recently in the music world...This collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

Favorite Bond Film.......2007-04-26
Music score was great. Paul McCartney and Wings. Movie well fitted for Roger Moore, a great candidate for this role.
The Solitaire melody is dreamy and romantic and often moody.
"Bond Goes to New York' is sharp yet out-witted. "Live and Let Die", a sacrament to testimony. Too good to pass up.
Finally! The complete Live and Let Die Soundtrack.......2005-09-13
I have only been waiting for this for 22 years! Granted when this was first released on LP (Vinyl record technology, pre cd, pre cassette and during the horror period of 8 track tapes!),
Only so much music could be recorded on a record. This album finally satisfies all of us who wanted all of the music. Sir George Martin does a wonderful variation to the classic 007 theme as well as great action sequences with different variations of the main title and then some original songs. Sir Martin was the first to score for Bond since Barry who had scored all of the previous movies unavailable for this one. The music was a fabulous introduction to the new Bond Roger Moore.
This Album will stand the test of time when good music was being made for the series.
Best Sound Track Ever.......2005-03-20
I just love bond movies and being able to listen to the music from them is just ausome
Live and Let Delight.......2004-08-12
The remastered release of LIVE AND LET DIE is much improved. The previous issue was no different than the track line up on the original 1973 vinyl record -- or eight track tape, depending on your antiquated stereo. Not only does this release include additional superb tracks, some of the original cuts have also been lengthened and more closely correspond the the film soundtrack. George Martin, the Beatles producer, took the helm from John Barry in scoring the eighth James Bond film soundtrack. Though no one has yet equaled Barry's compositions for Bond films, which we have not heard since 1987's THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, Martin's soundtrack was perfect for launching Roger Moore's first outing as Bond. Let us not forget Paul McCartney's brilliant theme of the same name.
The musical chemistry between McCartney and Martin is obvious as the title theme music is blended throughout the soundtrack. As a matter of trivia the movie producers originally planned to use McCartney's title theme with a female vocalist before the former Beatle showed his mettle as a negotiator. In the end, Paul McCartney and Wings performed the title track. LIVE AND LET DIE also proved to be a hit Apple/Capitol single as well.
There are a couple things missing from the CD. When some of the James Bond soundtracks were re-released a couple years ago they included selected soundbytes and an analog movie trailer. Apparently the remastered LIVE AND LET DIE soundtrack did not rate these extra features.
Oh well, Live and Let Die. In the meantime, live and go buy.
Why weren't these tracks included in the first place?.......2003-04-16
Yes, that is my sentiment....in fact, it seems in all the other re-mastered Bond soundtracks, the best music is left out, and Live and Let Die was no exception.
George Martin took over from John Barry to write the score for Live and Let Die and he more than admirably did the job. First of all, (take note David Anrold), is that he incorporate the theme song into the score even though it wasn't written by him...thus continuing the tradition of Bond music set by John Barry. Second, he wrote another piece for Solitaire which is also used extensively throughout the score. In all, George Martin wrote a score worthy of Barry himself....
Which is what makes the original release such a disappointment because many of the best music was left out. The re-master remedied that and includes virtually the entire score: the music for the pre-title sequence (gun barrel/snakebit), other notables are Bond and Rosie, The Lovers, Bond to New York, and many of the cues for action/chase sequences. There is an alternate cue for San Monique which I think is better than the one on the original release.
But why the 3 stars rating?
We have to wait for Bond's 40th anniversary for the soundtrack's proper release, AND rebuy the soundtrack (I have it in cassette and CD and now the Re-master). Call me bitter, I think the people who runs the Bond empire should stop treating us fans so shabbily.

Customer Reviews:
The second masterpiece in a row!.......2006-10-09
If you read my review on Malevolent's previous album 'Envenomed,' then you obviously know how I feel about this one. There's no doubt that this is one of the band's best, and like 'Envenomed,' everything is perfect on this CD for an extreme metal album! The one thing that I like most though is the drum work, it's absolutely INCREDIBLE!! The drumming is like a jack hammer going rampant in your head & it's just so clear & precise like all metal albums should have the drums recorded, but not always are. Oh, and as for the "Brett Hoffman's not in the band so I don't like it" people, get a life! You don't know what you are missing!
You Need 7 Copies of This. Now........2006-01-20
I'd argue this CD is possibly Malevolent Creation's best studio album to date.
For one, the vocals don't suck like Brett Hoffman's did (why anyone liked him, I cannot understand for the death of me.) They're not as low as former vocalist Jay Blachowicz's, but they're as good regardless (though certainly different.)
The guitars are the same as they've always been: full of fast strumming and interesting riffs.
The drums are also similar to what Malevolent Creation is known for: blast beats and thrash rolled into an effective combination.
The best songs (to purposely impose my opinions on you) are 'Lifeblood,' 'Divide and Conquer,' 'All that Remains,' and 'Lifeblood' (since its so awesome, it deserves mention twice.) Oh, and I forgot about 'Lifeblood.' Man, who am I kidding? They all rule. Stop reading this and get this CD.
I can't believe they're STILL getting better!.......2004-03-13
I was kind of bummed out when Malevolent Creation booted Brett Hoffman again, but realistically, you can't have someone around with those problems. I won't state them here, research them if you really want to know.
Kyle definately has a different vocal flavor, but it fits in perfectly with this album. The writing style has gotten more technical and I believe this was the next logical step for MC. Envenomed was my favorite release until this one came out. Right from the beginning you have a break neck pace that stays consistent throughout the album. I can't believe MC is still improving after all this time, but I couldn't be happier.
I saw them live and they are still putting on killer shows! The best death metal performance I've seen yet was weilded by these masters and I know they won't let up soon. Even the loss of Dave Culross couldn't slow them down. And if that doesn't, I don't know what will.
This album is just brutal from start to finish and every song on it is tighter than the last.
Any death metal fan should have this thing. Any other metal fan can learn a lot from this album. And I don't give a sh** about any other type of music fan. They probably couldn't comprehend the raw power behind this.
Good CD (not their best) but still great!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-12-17
Like some of the other reviews before me I didn't think I would like Kyle Symons on vocals (new singer) But he does work with this band.......he's no Bret Hoffman..........but he is good. Rob and Phil sound devistating.....their riffs are so d*mn tight. And the new drummer is very good to. They have suffered from the loss of Dave (the man) Culros......but who wouldn't suffer from the loss of such genius. This album grew on me with time. If your looking for a first or second MC album then get Envenomed.(one of my all time favs) In closing, I believe you should give a new line-up at least a second album chance to get comfortable with the other guys. Just know that phil would not have chose these guys unless they were top notch.
Crushing!!.......2003-01-19
I used to listen to Malevolent Creation when I was in high school, and thought they were really good. Intro to 2002, where after 2 years in Florida I become acquainted with Rob from Malevolent through my guitar player Jeff, and Rob lets me listen to "The Will to Kill" before it came out. I thought it was good then and now that I have a pressed copy it sounds even better. If you have the chance to see Malevolent, you will be impressed, I assure you. I just saw them in Orlando with Cannibal Corpse and you wouldn't believe how many people were there, heavy music is making a comeback for sure in the States. The new vocalist has a different style and register than Brett so it may take some getting used to for some people. For me, he fits right in there, and I honestly think his voice is stronger anyway. Their new drummer is also solid. To give credit where it's due of course you have to say that Cullross is impossibly good, but it is so hard to find people who can play this stuff, and DiPinto is there. You also cannot overlook living legend James Murphy's contribution in "Assassin Squad", two of the best solos I've ever heard, period. Let's all hope he gets well. Go out and buy this album, and go see Malevolent Creation, support one of the bands who are still true to the ultimate brutality of the heavy music underground. Thats it.

Everything You've Always Wanted To Know About Kill Creek.......2004-05-13
Wow! This is pretty much everything these guys ever recorded. If you don't know them you might as well start here. Their straight ahead rock sound will appeal to fans of Soul Asylum, Mid-period Goo Goo Dolls (Superstar Carwash, Hold Me Up) as well as those who are just looking for some good ol' rock 'n' roll.
