An amazing album, Angel Dust unfortunately has limited appeal, although perhaps "unfortunately" isn't the right word; the record's oddities are also what make it such a fascinating listen. "Land of Sunshine" is a rocker with a foot-tapping rhythm punctuated by insane laughter from vocalist Mike Patton, whose distinctive voice and frequently disturbing lyrics drive the album. To call it hard rock does Angel Dust a disservice; it's far more musically complex than such a label implies. There's the funk-influenced "Midlife Crisis," the ballad "RV" (a bitter monologue from the point of view of a middle-aged discontent sitting in his trailer), the hard-edged claustrophobia of "Smaller and Smaller," and the rock-married-to-electronic-organ "Be Aggressive," which includes positively inspired cheerleader chants on the chorus. Impossible to classify but incredibly entertaining (there isn't a single boring moment on this album), Angel Dust is well worth picking up. --Genevieve Williams

FNM brought an innovative and independent jam to the rock plateau. Lyrically and musically they are brilliant. A thinking-man's band.

There is something about this album that is able to uproot the listener and emerse them in a listening experience that is skilled and varied. This album is not for everyone, maybe not for most people even. But this is one of those albums that takes me back to my youth because it did such a good job imprinting on me. I love it. - if you like "good music" and are able to transverse genres, check it out. No matter what your taste, you'll have to give props to a band that put alot of thought into what they delivered as a whole.

Not that great.......2007-03-14

i finally bought this after hearing so many good things about this album. but now that i have it, i dont think its really as good as everyone says. the songs arent funny, the music is boring. the only good song is midlife crisis, and that is still medeocre at best. i dont understand why people like this album. to tell you the truth, i think mike patton sounds terrible on this album. he sounds much better in mr. bungle, and that band is just so much better anyway. the only good thing patton has done is mr. bungle. anything else by mike is not really worth listening too. i dont consider him a musical genius like many others do. there is so much more out there that is so much better than this. i find this album a waste of money. it got two stars for midlife crisis.

The album that killed FNM's career...........2007-02-12

....and secured their musical legacy. The Real Thing was a solid rock/rap mixture with newly hired Mike Patton providing vocals. On Angel Dust, Patton had a lot more creative input, providing his wonderful vocal stylings and schizophrenic persona to Faith No More. It's a joyous ride that after a less than stellar performance initially, has become something of a cult classic and favorite among many newer acts - and with good reason. This album is all over the board. Land of Sunshine reads like a list of fortune cookies (which is the supposed inspiration), while Caffeine is an anthem for Patton's drug of choice, and one of FNM's most energetic recordings. Then there is the occaisonal oddball track showing Patton's range and sense of fun, like RV, which is like a melancholic rant from the stereotypical figure you might find living in an RV. Not exactly bilboard material, but fun.

Adding to the record were the internal tensions of the band. Jim Martin was having creative differences, yet pumps out some of his best work here. Tensions may have fueld a more agressive record, and FNM would never sound better than they do on this album. It's the bands chemistry - both good and bad - that make this album work. Commercially, this might have not been the hit the record company wanted, but its legacy can still be heard today and it's still a great record to crank up for a drive, barely showing its 15 year old age.

Everything's Ruined!.......2007-02-10

Patton... His fans love him and everything he does. But to the outside world he is ultimately known for his work with Faith no more. Their album "The Real Thing" spawned a hit single "Epic", then it seemed like they dropped off the map. No they didn't drop off the map; they released an unsuccessful commercial(at least in usa) follow up called Angel dust. This album is crazier than everything they had ever released. The 1st track Land of Sunshine sounds like FNM until the chorus goes into laughing and circus music. Caffeine is one of the hardest songs on the cd and prolly one of the best lyrically. Midlife Crisis was the 1st single, which is my favorite song. RV is funny but is kinda a throwaway for me as is Be Agressive, A small victory. The two songs I just mentioned previously are chalk full of homosexual themed lyrics. Be Agressive: It's hard for me...I'll take it on my knees. You know what I won't go further into detail the lyrics to these songs in particular are gross and kinda distracting to the creativity of the music throughout the cd. There is enough good tracks like "Everything's Ruined" to almost redeem its missteps.

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. AMAZING! She is so much better live!.......2006-12-02

This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.

ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

What an album, absolutly beautiful!
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.

If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!

astounding performance.......2005-06-07

an impeccable concert experience that successfully elevates the album to majestic heights. I had long been a fan of Dead Can Dance and the unparalleled work of Lisa Gerrard. When Sarah Brightman ventured into these Middle Eastern sounds on the Harem disc, I thought it was too derivative of the Dead Can Dance sounds (there is even a sample used on one of SB's songs that had previously been used within DCD).

However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!

I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!

Sarah's voice and style are terrific, as usual. However, I have to say that her version of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara" is fairly bland, especially compared to the original Anggun version. Sarah has the chops but lacks soul on this great song. Everything els here is very nice.

One of the best industrial albums ever made!!.......2007-02-15

I don't know why this item has no reviews, so I decided to give it one, even though I'm not an expert on it. I was recommended this album by a list of "best of blah bla" so I decided to try it - and was not disappointed. The drumming is the finest I've heard in a long time, and song composition/flow are excellent (rather than boring, repetitive, predictable, or pointlessly random and disjointed). The only thing I'm not particularly impressed with is the lyrics and vocals, but even still I find them decent - it could just be a matter of personal preference. If you are into any kind of industrial music, by all means give this album a listen!

I Like Three 6, Killa Klan, Project Pat, Lil' Wyte, Kingpin Skinny Pimp Gangsta Boo, Frayser Boy, La Chat, T-Rock, Koopsta Knicca, H.C.P., And The Whole Hypnotize Minds Crew, But This Guy Is Not A Talented Rapper. I Bought This CD, And I Still Have It Cuz No Stores Want To Buy It From Me. The Beats Are Alright(Nothing Special) But This Guys Raps Just Suck D***. It doesn't "Bleed" but I still love it!.......2005-08-08

If you are a fan of the band like me, than you already know how Angel Dust's evolving sound has changed from Bleed to Human Bondage. Less melodic than its predecessor (Bleed), Enlighten the Darkness gives us an edgier Angel Dust. Songs like "Cross of Hatred" and "Come Into Resistance" (two of my favorites on the album) have a crunch that separated them from other bands of the genre. However, there are still some beautiful gems on this record as well: "Beneath the Silence" and "Oceans of Tomorrow" will nearly rip your heart out with their emotional depth and beauty. Not as good as Bleed, but it still sits in my cd collection, and I still listen to it with the same awe and love that I felt when I first took it out of the plastic.

A good follow up to Bleed !.......2003-07-09

The first Angel Dust album, Border of Reality was horrible. It was a breakthrough album, and there was much room for improvement. And improve they did!! The next album, Bleed, is their best ever!! Enlighten the Darkness is awesome!!! Almost as good, and practically as good. It's not quite as dark, but it's got the metal. I miss the keyboards on Bleed a bit. But, they're on the right track here! Helloween has died (my former favorite band for over 10 years), and Angel Dust is my new champ!

German metal rocks!!

This CD is complex, powerful, and just bleed emotion........2003-06-07

This CD really got me into the more power-metalish sound but don't expect every power-metal group to sound like this. These guys are just off the wall awesome, and the songs are there to top. There is such a blend of intrumental and vocal in this that it's literally like they are of one sound. And you really feel the power behind every last track on this CD. In my opinion Angel Dust's best album although some do like to argue that "Of Human Bondage" is. This Album does stand tall and up to most everyone of my expectations. Have listened to it into oblivion but still manages to find it's way back to my ears.

pretty good.......2002-01-27

I'd never really heard anything by Angel Dust when I ordered this - after reading about it and listening to the samples however I thought why not? I wasn't disappointed. The album probably isn't as heavy as I would have liked it to be, but the singer has a GREAT voice. There's no screaming or growling either like on many metal CD'S, but that's because you won't be finding any death or black metal on any of the tracks. The style reminds me slightly of Iron Maiden etc so if you like good old style metal (not that this CD is old of course) you may want to give Angel Dust a listen. Best songs? Probably 'I need you.' Just make sure you turn the sound up loud to get the best results....

A VERY NICELY DONE ALBUM AGAIN! WITH IMPROVEMENTS AFTER THE MARVELLOUS "BLEED" ALBUM. THIS TIME WITH EVEN BETTER MELODIES AND TEXTURES, YOU SURE SHOULD BUY THIS!

Better than I expected...........2006-10-17

I have to admit I passed on this album when it was first released. But after all of these years I finally checked it out & I'm glad I did! This album contains what you would expect from Angel Dust, but what I like about this album is that it is more rockin' than the last few albums & not always slow & melodic like the previous 2 albums before. I wouldn't say this album is "bland" by any means, the songs are a little simpler in their style but that's what helps makes it a great listen. I would highly recommend checking it out.

Trying to get the Rating Up!!!.......2006-07-21

This is better than a 3.5! It is not as catchy as thier earlier stuff, but I think they wanted a heavy groove laden sound on this one. Comes across as a bit compressed but still kick's major dumper!!! If you like gritty metal with an understandable singer and plenty of Axe solo's Angel Dust should be in your collection. Definitely not their best, check out Bleed and Enlighten the Darkness if you want to here this band in all their glory. That said, I still listen to it. It isn't a terrible album, the production quality, and the catchiness of some of the songs save it. "The Human Bondage" is a fairly decent song, and "Got This Evil", and "Cultman" are fun to listen to, but the album as a whole doesn't do for me what their earlier efforts did. Worth a listen, just check out the older stuff first!

A very solid metal cd with a good tone.......2004-02-10

angel dust skew most of their power metal stuff on this cd and do a straigh ahead metal release that is often times very thrashy. The lyrics are not as corny this time around and the guitar tons are very very tight and clear. A extremely heavy cd for this type of band. I'll admit the riffs are mind blowing but they are very crunch and catchy and pummel you until the end of the song. And all the songs have catchy a chorus..very cool. I give it four stars and not five because this is their first cd that isns't really power metal and they haven't came into their heavy metal sound perfect yet. i'm sure their next release will be even better. Also, sometimes their singer sounds like ozzy. not good, at all.

This is one of those type of albums, where if you play it enough, you'll begin to like it. When I bought this album and gave it the first spin, I have to admit I didn't care for it. It's not following after "Bleed" or "Enlighten the Dark". It seems the band on this outing, was going for a more industal sound to the music. In some cases they sound like Nevermore because of this. As for the title and the music's direction ...It was a album that seemed to be a forced effort and the lyrics very sad leanings and the morbed sound many of these songs leads me to believe the band barely made it thru this recording at all. As you all know, Angel Dust break up a little while after this release. There Have been rumors and such that they plan to reform in one way or another, but on't hold your breathe. Now lets Review the tracks on this album: 1. The Human Bondage - The song is sort of a way to some up the ground covered on this album. It's quite a good track. ...95%2. Inhuman - Heavy and futuristic sounding. Perhaps the fasted song on here, and it has one of the most touching Chorus's of the album. The song seems to about Robots taing over mankind after mankind made them. ...100% 3. Unreal Soul - One of the more straight forward metal tracks on here. By the way, yes they cuss in this song, which is something that never seems to happen in the style of powermetal. ...90% 4. Disbeliever - A softer song with a odd feel to it. It is not the song I catch myself playing much. It's just seems to drag on too long. ...80% 5. Forever - It's a odd song. It's got a bit of a Marlyn Manson type keyboard in it. The Song is about holy wars. I think this song has to be one of the best songs Angel Dust has ever done. ...100% 6. Unite - Semi-heavy song, but the vocals are pretty interesting. It seemed like this songs real messenge was of the band breaking up. ....95% 7. Got This Evil - Semi heavy song, It's keyboard parts are bleak. The problem I have with this song is the Chorus which just doesn't fit at all. ...85%8. The Cultman - Weird Softer song. Very mystical sound to it. The lyrics are odd as well. It's one of the more interesting tracks on here. ....95% 9. Freedom Awaits - Cool keyboard sound effects and a decent beat. It reminds me of something off the album "Enlighten the Darkness". ....90%10. Killer - This is a cover of a song by Seal. I have no clue how Seal'd version sounded, but this version is very interesting. It's semi-heavy with this very eletric chorus thanks to the Keyboards. ...95%If you like this album, I also suggest: Angel Dust- Enlighten the Darkness, Angel Dust- Bleed, Nevermore- Dreaming Neon Black, Nevermore- Dead Heart in a Dead World, and Angel Dust- Border of Reality.

A suprising discovery.......2006-04-26

A must own in the Power Metal genre. A 'desert island' album of towering magnitude. Musicality, originality and various emotions and themes all drilled into one album without the 'wankerism' of other progressive power metal groups focused solely on instrumentation. This album picks you up, throws you down and scoops you back up again leaving you breathless.

1. Bleed **** Gritty electric guitar power chord progression over an ostinato keyboard line rips into a moderately difficult solo. Vocals are desperate, fitting the hopelessly dark lyrics.

2. Black Rain *** Repetitive speedy guitar riff. Song continues to be quite repetitive, although has nice keyboard/guitar solos.

3. Never **** Wicked gritty intro riff. Song steps down into lighter and slower interludes then back into the heavy sections to build up your anticipation. Some great keyboard work here.

4. Follow Me (Part I) ***** A welcome change of pace from the first three tracks. A lighthearted pleading song intended for a lover. An ostinato guitar riff with acoustic lead. Incredible hope extoled in this ballad. "Why don't you follow me?"

5. Follow Me (Part II) ***** Uses the theme from the previous track, but changes the tone. Instead of possibilities it speaks of lost hope. Song begins with an extremely unique spanish guitar riff over dark bass line. Builds up as heavy guitar and drums lead into the lyrics that give the feeling of anger and resentment. "Cause you didn't follow me!"

6. Addicted to Serenity *** Don't let the title confuse you, this is a speedy thrashy metal track that maintains the same intensity throughout with a speedy yet not overly technical solo.

7. Surrender *** A 7 minute epic but I couldn't completely get into this track - the lyrics are too screamy, although it has some nice changes, the instrumentation is quite simple with the exception of decent solo.

8. Sanity **** Song has a nice intro, almost a Type O Negative and Rammstein feel. The gritty guitar line and vocals move at a food stomping pace that allows one to really get into the song. Has some great guitar fills. An extremely melodic chorus.

9. Liquid Angel *** A Sonata Arctica feel to the song. Has a nostalgic feel with a slow piano line building up and falling down, building up and falling down.

10. Memories **** Continues the emotions from the previous track with a heavy distorted guitar then breaks into shred city, maintaining a strong intensity until the end of the track.

11. Nightmare ***** - With this track, Bleed ends in a BANG. With a phased bass line and pinch harmonicized heavy guitar line lead by lyrics with great intensity. As the song builds into the chorus, this song goes through a number of build-ups. The chorus of this song typifies this album.

"I'm just your only nightmare, etched in your mind, I'm just your ownly nightmare, and I'll be back - night after night."

Angel Dust created a masterpiece with this one that still has playability even to this day for me. Fans of Evergrey should definitely have this one in their collection. Great band, great album, 'nuff said.

This was the second cd of this excellent group that i purchased. I was completely blown away by the melodic rock these guys orchestrated. My dad actually introduced me to these guys and the whole progressive metal family. The song "Bleed" is a very powerful song. The vocals down to the piano is done with excellence. If you never heard these guys you should definately check them out. I would recommend starting off with this cd first. Listen to it a few times and it'll grow on you. All of their other cds are great as well. They are definately a group that belongs in anyone's metal collection. Put the disc in the player and crank it up!

Power metal that has POWER !.......2004-05-17

I own all Angel Dust albums except their first one Into the Dark Past, and I can easily say that Bleed is by far their best work. Actually I like all of their discs but I think they released their most essential records from the Border of Reality to the Enlighten the Darkness era. Bleed was their album in-between... and their best!

Bands like Angel Dust and Rage updated their older sound with some more modern elements (symphonic arrangements, inclusion of keys and piano, more detailed production, etc.) and became the much needed breath of fresh air in the Euro power metal scene. The keyboards on this album have absolutely taken the depth of Angel Dust's music to a higher level. The piano intro of the title track is pure genius and one of the most unorthodox power metal songs of any band. This was the song that hooked me to Angel Dust and prompted me to go out and buy all their back catalog. With each release going backwards I discovered the band's thrash metal roots had indeed never been abandoned completely. Actually the thrash metal ingredients are still present on Bleed but they're not very much in the forefront. The band has chosen to bury them a bit deep in the compositions but it's definitely there when you give it a good listen.

Dirk Thurisch's vocal delivery on this album was one of the greatest changes as far as Euro power vocalists were concerned. He has a medium vocal range but quite often goes out of his way to hit higher notes with a very aggressive delivery. It is this expressive style in his singing that makes Bleed so special. All the keyboard arrangements have brought a very sparse and cool vibe to the songs yet Dirk's fiery vocal lines along with the sharp guitar solos which are all centred around Frank Banx's subtle bass work are phenomenal.

Bleed is not only the best Angel Dust album, but one of my favourite outputs of the entire power metal genre. It is far from the happy-go power metal albums with singers screaming their hearts out or twin guitar work dancing around incessant double drums. Angel Dust was among the first German bands to destroy this stale songwriting concept in power metal and actually aimed at creating heavy metal songs with a lot of power.

There is a great deal of variety on this disc going from the melodic song "Never" to the "Follow Me" parts 1 and 2 both of which offer different sides of the band. One of them is a slow and emotional ballad while the other employs the band's older thrash roots without getting overly loud. "Addicted to Serenity" and "Surrender?" are both insanely catchy with a nice chorus which you can sing along to although they both contain solid lyrical work. My copy of this CD is the regular edition with 9 tracks so "Liquid Angel", their ballad, closes the album. I noticed this copy contains the band's Rainbow cover "Temple of the King" which is also available on the amazing Dio tribute album Holy Dio. I think this is one of the best Rainbow covers I've heard. (The whole tribute album is very much recommended as well.)

If you don't own any Angel Dust discs, start with Bleed. Get Border of Reality and Enlighten the Darkness next. Most people I've met consider ETD their best work but I tend to disagree with that, still you can't go wrong with any Angel Dust disc. The only one I don't like as much as the rest is perhaps The Human Bondage.

A solid predecessor to "Enlighten the Darkness".......2002-12-30

Angel Dust is a power metal band with a slight thrash influence, which is probably due to the fact that they were originally a thrash metal band in the 80's. They resurfaced in 1998 with "Border of Reality" featuring a keyboard-soaked power metal sound with a mid-range gruff vocalist. 1999's "Bleed" built upon that sound. The album starts off with a flurry of piano-infected power metal anthems before taking a suprising turn into atmospheric techno soundscapes during the second half. Angel Dust would improve dramatically with the awesome 2000 concept masterpiece "Enlighten the Darkness", an essential purchase for all lovers of metal. Sadly, they would follow that up with the dreadful boredom of "Of Human Bondage", a record so bad that it made this great band split up.

The song "Bleed" starts off with an amazing piano part courtesy of Stephen Banx. It's incredibly beautiful and powerful. This is one of the most memorable piano parts in all of metal. Heavy guitar crashes down and rumbles along with the piano. "Bleed" may be the definitive Angel Dust song. It's brutally heavy yet beautiful and lush. It's epic, it's soaring, it's emotional. This is the perfect metal song. Dirk Thurisch really soars on the amazing chorus, "Can I leave and close my eyes for one more night? Can I pay to be set free of all this pain that makes me bleed?"

"Black Rain" starts off with promise but succumbs to the "let's shout 'black' repeatedly to sound dark and evil" symdrome. It may not bother many listeners, but I just get irked by repititious gang shouting of metal cliches like BLACK! BLACK! BLACK!

"Never" is another highlight of the album. A churning and grinding guitar coupled with liquid keyboard runs. The chorus is very beautiful. The end of the song features some extremely cool screaming by Dirk Thurisch along with searching harmony guitars.

"Follow Me" is an epic broken down into 2 tracks. The first part is very soft and acoustic. Dirk Thurisch puts in a memorable performance. "Do you remember a walk along the river? In the valley of our dreams?" This is very emotional and sad. The acoustic guitar and piano make this song exceeding gentle and beautiful. The last verse is much more powerful with its soaring vocals.

Part 2 of "Follow Me" is much heavier. It features the same melodic statements only elaborated upon with incredible heaviness. The lyrics to this part are very hateful and angry. This is perhaps the heaviest and darkest song I have ever heard Angel Dust do. It features some nice thrashy riffs and double bass drumming. The 2 part "Follow Me" is a stunning composition.

"Addicted To Serenity" features an addictive chorus and some fast riffing by Bernd Aufermann. The sparse piano and lush synth landscapes really add to this super-melodic song.

"Surrender" is over 7 minutes long and could probably be a couple minutes shorter as the mid-section goes a bit off track and is ultimately boring. The ending of the song is awesome, however, with Dirk's emotional screaming in the final chorus.

"Sanity" is a mid-pace journey into techno soundscapes. After starting off rather unimpressively, the song builds to a rather enjoyable tune. The second verse is really cool and the chorus is great as well. This is a suprising song that ends up succeeding. A fusion of techno and metal.

"Liquid Angel" is a very soft, slow ballad making use of sparse arrangements of piano and some acoustic guitar noodling. This is a very chilled song and a great way to end the album.

But wait, there are bonus tracks!!

"Memories" is a phenomenal happy power metal song! THE CHORUS! THE CHORUS! THE CHORUS!
