Through lead-singer strife and domestic blisters, the Crüe have endured. Greatest Hits is a breather for the group and provides an opportunity to look back at the construction and destruction of this much-maligned multimillion-record-selling ensemble. Sure, much of what's here overlaps with Decade of Decadence, but we do get three tunes from Generation Swine ("Glitter" receives a tender remix) and an eight-panel foldout booklet with essays from each of the rug rats. Most important, two new tracks--"Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved"--feature golden-boy knob twiddler Bob Rock, who oversees two no-nonsense, no-electronics blasts through the candy-metal past. The future looks glam, indeed. --Martin Popoff

Good but not Great.......2007-07-19
This is a solid Crue compilation, but doesn't floor you on the whole. Most of the big hits are here, but they're kind of diluted by some forgettable and newer stuff. Sorry, guys, your heyday was the 80s and early 90s. Also, the order in which the songs were put on the disc somehow doesn't seem quite right. This is a good disc for 80s heavy metal fans, but it won't blow you away. The 4 star rating is mainly thanks to the quality of the individual good songs. After all, it can't be denied that the Crue were leaders of 80s metal and put out some of the most monster hits of that time.
Ehhh, so-so..........2007-04-19
Don't get me wrong. I love Motley Crue, but this CD didn't do them justice. I bought it because I was longing to hear "Home Sweet Home", but I should have saved my money and just downloaded the song instead. This CD is not horrible, just not great. In hind sight,I just should have purchased the "Theatre of Pain" album instead.
Afraid.......2007-03-20
As a police interrogator, I employ many techniques. From bright lights to inriminating evidence, I use any tool at hand. My most usefull weapon is Motley Crue's greatest hits. Usually 2 minutes into "Glitter" they crack. Weeping and collapsing into a pile in the corner, they'll confess to anything, even if it's made up. (The Isreali diamond heist? The Brinks job on St. Patricks?)
The relief in their tear stained eyes is palpable. They want to live again. Just call me Dr. Feelgood. Got a drug dealing gang of toughs that won't turn on each other? Play "Enslaved" and they'll fold like Superman on laundry day.
Take it from me, you can count on the crew to make bad guys "Afraid."
still smokin' in any room.......2007-02-05
motley crue's greatest hits is an awesome collcetion.my favorite songs are dr. feelgood, home sweet home, girls girls girls, bitter pill, kickstart my heart, don't go away mad(just go away),and smokin'in the boys room. i can't wait to see what they do next. ed wilson
Nice Lock of Hair-Just a Sampling of the Crue's Best.......2006-08-30
Okay, hair metal gets it's share of knocks and t'maters by metal snobs, but guys this is toe tapping stuff that still stirs Metaldiva's soul.
There are several of the favorite tracks over the bands' modestly long, admittedly choppy career. However, there are quite a few that were really good and funny like "She Goes Down" from "Dr. Feelgood" for example, that did not make the cut and others like the new "Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved" that never piqued my interest. It's all there from their heyday and all the guys pitched in, if separately and apart from each other, with letters and messages to us and each other.
Motley Crue is living proof that if your band has an excellent drummer-Tommy Lee and talented bassist-Mick Mars and creative guitarist-Nikki Sixx, it doesn't matter what your singer sounds like, you can have a hit making band. However, loving Vince Neil as I do, no one can argue that his former stage presence and his vocals were well matched with the music as a whole. They are also an inspiration to their fans that have fallen into drugs and despair, by going through their separate recoveries and rebirths. All of us watching are hopeful for positive progress with Mick's illness. After all this time on the scene bands like this and their members feel like extended family and you just want to wish them the best.
After this last tour they all seemed to scatter and go on with other endeavors, but the new tour with Aerosmith ought to be a hoot. They all sweat a little more and there's more of them to love, but they are still rockin'.
I have to wonder about more great music we may missed out on and never got written because of all the interpersonal issues and private tragedies that ultimately caused them to fall apart. We will never know, but this is the ultimate snapshot of a better days in which we all received the great gift of their artistic talents,if only for a brief time.
Metaldiva Sez: Great addition to any hair metal collection. It is short and left many great hits out, but is still great to listen to and remember when our hair was blown 4 inches higher than our heads. Great music from a great time in this genre..Get it home today..

www.bringbackglam.com Reviews Motley Crue.......2007-07-29
Originally released in 1983, Shout at the Devil is the seminal Rock album of the 1980s. With their sophomore effort, Motley Crue continued to define both their musical and stage styles. As they honed their skills in the recording booth, countless other bands found ways to copy bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars, drummer Tommy Lee and vocalist Vince Neil.
The narration "In the Beginning" sets the tone for the entire album. Immediately, listeners realize they are about to embark on a sonic experience of Metal proportions. With the album's title track, Motley Crue created a stadium anthem, guaranteed to get fans on their feet, fists in the air. "Shout at the Devil" as a track is simple enough: it relies on heavy guitar riffs, steady bass and chanting. The opening arrangement is both pleasing and painful to the ears. The chord changes and clashing notes transport the listener to an underworld where good and evil collide, where fantasy and reality are one in the same.
With "Looks that Kill," Motley Crue helped make Metal commercial. Through the new invention of MTV, the band used the strength of the track to produce a major budget music video. That video helped Motley Crue create a synergy of music, mayhem and moxie. The heavy intro to "Looks that Kill" keeps the Metal train rolling, and the hook keeps the track running through your head all day long. It's also through "Looks that Kill" that lyrical master Nikki Sixx really lets his talents shine. A true testament of any good songwriter is the ability to transport a listener to another place and time, and Sixx accomplishes this goal with "Looks that Kill."
The heaviest song on the record is "Bastard," a non-single but concert staple. The pace of the track is frenetic and the lyrics alarming. As with all things Motley, shock value is of the utmost importance and the boys achieve their goal with this head-banging classic.
The Beatles cover "Helter Skelter" seems somewhat misplaced among the Metal majesty that is Motley, but somehow, the quartet makes it work. Perhaps it's the enterprising guitar solos by Mick Mars or the thunderous rhythm of Tommy Lee. Whatever the reason, Motley tackles the British invasion track, transforming it into a Sunset Strip sleaze staple for cover bands in bars all across the world.
Even though "Too Young to Fall in Love" peaked at number 90 on the Billboard chart; today the track is synonymous with all things Crue. Always the wordsmith, Nikki Sixx is able to sum up every bad relationship with two simple sentences:
You say our love/
Is like dynamite.
Open your eyes/
`Cause it's like fire and ice.
With blazing guitars, screeching vocals and lyrics that succinct, it's hard to argue the importance of "Too Young to Fall in Love" in Metal history.
The tracks "Red Hot," "Knock `Em Dead Kid," "Ten Seconds to Love" and "Danger" all play their role in rounding out the classic Metal masterpiece. Always eager to spawn controversy in favor of gaining street credibility, the boys in Motley Crue dedicated "Knock `Em Dead Kid" to the LAPD. Ready for a "star spangled fight and back in black," the Crue threatens other bands that come too close to their Metal empire, built and glorified on the strength of Shout at the Devil.
The special 2003 re-master of Shout at the Devil contains extra goodies like demo versions of the title track, "Looks that Kill," "Hotter than Hell" and "Too Young to Fall in Love." The 2003 release also includes the previously unreleased track "I Will Survive." The enhanced CD also includes the video of "Looks that Kill." Original artwork, complete liner notes and updated band interviews are also included in the re-mastered package.
This one changed my life!.......2007-04-21
A buddy passed this cassette to me in karate class when I was 14. This album totally freaked me out. I had never heard the anger, pain, and sexual frustration heavy metal could bring.
The Crue brag that this is a rough album recorded on hard liquer, cocaine, etc. It truly is rough and brings the listener right down to the LA street of 1982-3. "Shout" was a break through album for the Crue and should always remain in the top spot of any head bangers list.
The Best Rock Record.....EVER !!!.......2006-10-25
I just don't see how anyone could do it any better than this. Perfect.
Awesome.......2006-08-31
I think this is one of the best Cd's I've heard so far. As for saying Nirvanna is better? I thought people listened to music to get away from their life, not be reminded how crappy it is..(a la grunge rock) And to all those who reviewed with one star, why even bother if you hated it THAT much. *Sigh*
the best motley ever.......2006-08-16
back in 1983, i was greatly dissapointed with KISS' decision to drop the make up and opt for an average look. couple that with the fact my favorite member, the space ace has also left in what was back then, a sinking ship, and you'd know why i was so dissapointed. i first saw an ad of this record in an old issue of hit parader and i have to admit that my interest was piqued. here was a band that greatly resembled the masters but definitely looked more awesome and nastier. boy was i right. i wont forget the first time i heard this. it had me floored and creeped out right off the moment at the start of in the beginning. this is motley crue's best album because it rocked with the best of them. it never lets up and it had everything. looks that kill, red hot, bastard still sounds fresh today and can rock with the best of what these new bands can dish out. it showed a band in it's prime and it showed the world that nikki, vince, mick and tommy meant business. it would not sound as good as this again until dr. feelgood in 89. if you ever have to own one crue record all your life, this is it.

There is no shortage of Motley Crue hits collections out there, but this one just might be the definitive. All the essentials are on disc one, which is generously crammed with choice cuts from the Aqua Net years, before Vince Neil outgrew the spandex and Tommy Lee found his true calling in amateur porn--from the sleek glam rock of "Too Fast For Love" and strip-club anthem "Girls, Girls, Girls" to the runny mascara ballad "Without You" and comedy hocus-pocus of "Shout at the Devil." Having just barely survived the '80s, the band gets inexplicably serious on the second half of the collection, delving into such utterly forgettable noise as "Planet Boom" and "Generation Swine." But there's no reason to fret--the compilation is merely doing its job and succeeds brilliantly in tracing the rise and fall of a band whose legacy is turning out to be far greater than anyone ever imagined. -- Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
I'll hand it to them..........2007-01-12
I feel odd even WRITING this review--even odder than I did when I picked up this CD set.
In short, I never liked Motley Crue in their heyday. When I was in high school, cranking up the Cramps or the Flesheaters on my Walkman, a friend of mine praised the Crue, while I thought they stunk. MTV didn't help either, rotating "Home Sweet Home" endlessly (and unfortuantely all of the hair rock power ballads to follow). While my friend Frank praised _Shout at the Devil_ and denied that there had ever been a band called Brownsville Station and insisted that "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" was an original Crue, I scoffed at his inferior musical tastes.
So why the hell would I even bother LOOKING at this collection? To tell you the truth, the omens came threefold--first, I got into Brides of Destruction. I saw the video for S.T.F.U. on Headbangers' Ball and loved it. When I got it, I found out that the outfit was lead by Nikki Sixx, and though it didn't make me like the album any less, I'd still grimace a bit and say to myself, "This band has a member of the Crue in it."
Then, when I went to see _Evil Dead: The Musical_, "Kickstart My Heart" was played during the intermission. Listening, I realized that this was one Crue song that I didn't mind so much when Frank forced some Crue on the turntable. In fact, I kind of liked it.
Last, this CD set was basically for free at a sale I came across at a CD store. Enough said--I figured that I could find at least two or three tracks that I liked.
But in listening to this collection, I've come to realize that the Crue was a band that suffered for its desire for fame. They can no doubt rock - "Kickstart My Heart" remains one of my favorites, and "Live Wire" is a juicy one. But other times their songs felt very off-the-mark, sometimes starting with a good hook but falling off very quickly. "Toast of the Town" was like this, as well as "Hooligan's Holiday," and "Planet Boom" just plain fizzled out. Some songs suffer for trying to sound too pop, and they just come across as empty.
I don't think this set turned me into a Crue 'fan,' nor am I sure that it was supposed to, and possibly a Cruehead may think that this collection is just blast after blast of Crue par excellence, but I did come out of it highly pleased with some select tracks, but also kind of thinking that they were a band who had the wherewithall to strike up hook after hook but forwhatever reason fell flat a lot of the time. Rather than distinguish themselves as a singular band in rock mythology, I think they ended up forging themselves as the prominent name of a name brand of rock, for though they proved themselves to be the better of the whole hair-metal pop-rock genre, they never fully came together to do solid music.
But then again, they had the fame, money, booze and women, and I was just a raging gutter punk, so they may be able to say that the last laugh was theirs.
The Greatest Hair Metal Band of all Time.......2006-11-10
For 25 years they have been the biggest hair Metal band of all time, now here is a great complation of all their head banging tracks & power ballads from 1981- 2005 with tracks brand new on this CD, the CD features classics like "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Dr. Feelgood" "Looks that Kill" "Home Sweet Home" "Too Young to Fall in Love" & many more on 2 discs, listen to your Crue music b4 ya see em' with America's greatest Rock 'n' Roll band AEROSMITH!!!
Thats the way!.......2006-09-14
Red White and Crue(2005)
Motley Crue was a band with a history Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx,Tommy Lee and Mick Mars deserve a great compilation.and yet the other compilations like decade of decadence(1991)and Greatest hits(1998) didnt do this band justice. Now comes a compilation that all bands should take notice of for the next compilation.Red White and Crue captures all of Motley Crue goin trough classics 80`s album like Too fast for love passing by the self titled album Motley Crue (1994)and Quaternary(1994 also) with John Corabi to finally come to New Tatoo(2000).
All of Motley is covered and surprinsignly the John Corabi stuff too.3 New songs were made for this album sick love song(appearently Tommy didnt play on it),if i die tommorow(Samplw Plan wrote it)and Street fighting man(a Stones cover).and there is also an unreleased song `Black Widow`from the too fast for love era that was never released. All album singles are here Dr.Feelgood known to be the best Motley album was represented 5 times on here getting most songs for one album.
The cover is enssentially a woman and its collered red and white and black. On the back there is a picture of the band. The booklet was well made with Crue members current pictures separatly and one togheter. The mini-biography of the band was good for a booklet mentionning Vince Neil was fired and more.At the end you see who wrote the songs wich songs were singles and the album the songs were on and its release date.
What else hasnt been said already?Thats right nothin`fellow Crue heads.Great for a fan and a newcomer great songs great package and all highly recomended forget about the other compilations.5 stars!
What Gives.......2006-05-31
What gives with every one putting down yet another hits collection from the Crue? Yes I love the Crue and as of right now no longer own there stuff sadly all my cd's of them where stolen and were the original releases before the re issues. This CD would be a great place to start a Crue collection for it covers every thing from 1978 to 2001 including remixes never released the J C years and 3 new tracks. Yes there are alot of songs that are missing but this is by far the best hits released to date by any band and for the price what the hell you can't go wrong. And as a moble disc jocky I'd take a greatest hits cd any day and leave the full albums at home.
5 stars for CD 1...Big fat Goose Egg for CD 2.......2006-05-16
Sometimes you just want a good mix of the good stuff. Can I just but CD 1 for half the price because I don't think a frisbee that says Red, White & Crue CD2 is worth $8.

Early Crue...Raw Rock n' Roll.......2007-08-02
If you want to see what kind of band Motley Crue were before they became a bloated, laughable, cock-rock band, then you need to pick-up this disc. Yeah...I know...lots of make-up, high heels, teased hair, etc. But this was the early '80's. Long before Poison came on the scene. The Crue's fashion sense had a lot more in common with The NY Dolls and Hanoi Rocks then, say, Britny Fox and Cinderella. Plus, these songs are raw and real. They lack the edge, attitude, and power of the tracks on "Shout at the Devil," but there are some well-written tunes and it's interesting to hear this band at the very beginning of their career. Songs like "Piece of Your Action" and the title-track still sound good as does the rest of the record. In addition, there are 4 extra tracks, 3 of which are previously unreleased and 1 with an alternate intro. Brief notes by the band are included. Now, if your idea of the Crue at their best is "Home Sweet Home" and "Smokin' in the Boys Room," then go pick-up "Theatre of Pain," "Girls, Girls, Girls," and "Dr. Feelgood," or, better yet, "Decade of Decadence." However, if you think the Crue went to "pot," except for a handful of good songs, after their first two records, as I do, then go buy this album. You won't regret it!
F YES!.......2007-01-28
This is the greatest glam record of all time. Way better, more pure and harder rocking than Shout at the Devil.
One of Motley's and the eighties best.......2007-01-12
This album was the beginning of the glam metal scene. Released in 1982 it only sold about 100,000 copies which is actually remarkable considering MTV or radio wouldn't go near it. Motley Crue combined mteal, punk, glam, and pop on this album. Singer Vince Neil never sounds better or more original then this disc. The songs are all catchy(usually under three minutes) and rock hard. Not a simple feat. Most metal bands drone on for 6-8 minuter per song. The album celebrates being young and the recklessness of not having a care in the world. The arenas would be calling on their next disc, but Motley was never better then right here.
An Amazing Debut for the crue, quite possibly the best. Or close........2006-07-19
A great album.
tough stuff.......2006-06-28
"Raw, powerful, gritty" are the adjectives most of the other reviewers are using, and with good reason. This is the straight up real deal.
The lyrics to "Live Wire" are what Tipper Gore read on the floor of the US house of reps, her hands and voice shaking, when she was trying to promote censorship of Rock. ("I'll either break her face or take down her legs...")
Unfortunately, MC got worse instead of better. 'Shout @ Devil' was a very good follow up, but from there on out, they were in large part pandering to the crowd instead of screaming from the heart.

Blah.......2007-04-19
Someone told me that every song but one on this cd was a number one single and sold over a billion copies. He never did prove it but I never believed it. Didnt they start the power ballad? Anyway, this has a few good tracks but really nothing that blows me away. I'll stick to Poison.
Best of the Crue!!!.......2006-01-04
This album was recorded with Bob Rock and when the band was sober, and that really comes through in all the songs. Vince, Tommy, Nikki and Mick are all on top of the game. These guys really made a great record. I think in The Dirt, Tommy says that every song ended up as a single. When this album came out, it was #1!! This c.d. is awesome, and if you are a Motley Crue fan, and are sane, you will buy it.
Motley FOOOOLZ.......2005-12-22
Another useless record by a bunch of talentless fools who have been ripping off the teenagers for years. If these guys were asked to make some good music or die, they all would have died years ago.
great classic rock album.......2005-12-08
This should get more play on classic rock radio. Motley Crue had pretty much given up being a mid-80s hairband and had abandoned the whole leather, devil-worship image from the earliest days. Still there's prejudice against the Crue from rock n roll radio for whatever reason.
I remember fondly being 13 years old in 1984 wearing the pentagram Crue tee shirts with my mullet and having people think I was a demonologist. Fun times.
As far as this album goes, it's kind of the Layla of my generation. Pure classic rock. In a league of its own. Beyond mere metal. Still a favorite among strippers. That's about a perfect album.
A new era!.......2005-11-05
Dr. Feelgood was a new era for our heroes. At the time he was doing Dr. Feelgood Nikki Sixx has sober up and, once and still a living illustration of rock n'roll lifestyle, was affraid than the fact to being clean and sober will make him uncool for the fans. Fortunately he was wrong! Dr. Feelgood was their greatest selling album ever. A huge mainstream success, Motley Crue was everywhere! It was so good!
These rock and roll icons allegedly sober up became role models to look up to. For me it was that! Dr. Feelgood is a sight of the time. It showed me than you don't need to be drugged-up and alcoholic to be cool.
Motley Crue are cool and will forever be cool. Sober or not! That's the bottom line!

cheesy motley.......2006-08-17
back in the 80's, the crue rocked my world and could not do anything wrong. after the one-two sucker punch of too fast and shout, nothing would or could stop the greatest heavy metal band since, well, you know the drill. looking back now, i cant believe how naive i was back then. this, along with theatre of pain, are what i consider the weakest links in the motley crue chain of albums. not only does it sound dated, it also presents a band unsure of what they wanted. Sure, girls girls girls and wild side rocked, but everything goes downhill after that. this is forgetful pap and ranks with ToP as my least played motley cds. id still get this just to complete my collection but, as i have said in my other review, if you opt to get the definitive classic motley cd, get shout. and too fast for that matter. leave this alone if you are not a crue fan because chances are, you'll stay that way if you hear this...
Girls Girls Girls.......2006-03-28
OK, so Mötley Crüe never pretended to be anything more than a Glam Rock band. They didn't pander to commercial interests like Bon Jovi. They didn't try to validate themselves as musicians like Queensrÿche. They didn't go grunge like Bang Tango. Their egos didn't explode like Guns N' Roses (well, not quite as much). And they never, ever toned down their behaviour like Skid Row. Through it all, they remained the quintessential Glam band, always setting the extreme standards for others to follow.
With a title like `Girls, Girls, Girls' this was never likely to be a serious album, and it's not. However, it is also vintage LA Glam Rock - unapologetically sleazy and ultimately disposable. The band had spent months in the studio on their previous album and were unhappy with the over-polished result. For this album, they hit the studio and did the lot within three weeks. It brought back their edge, smudged their make-up and dirtied up the sound well and truly. It also meant `Girls, Girls, Girls' sounds decidedly underdone in places.
First track "Walk On The Wild Side" rocks like a maniac, in the best traditions of Van Halen and Aerosmith. Mick Mars' guitar swaggers through the song, with probably the most Metal sound he's ever pulled from six strings and an amplifier. Vince Neil is his streetwise best with his glimpse of the seedy side of LA life and lines like "East LA, midnight/Papa won't be home tonight/Found dead with his best friend's wife". It's probably about as real as Mötley Crüe ever get.
Then it's back to the teen fantasy these grown men were living with "Girls, Girls, Girls". Basically, it's big dumb rock with hairspray and copious sex thrown in. The dumb obvious chorus shout of "Girls, girls, girls" will still have you singing it too, despite the utter cliché of it all - it's sexist but sexy escapism. "Bad Boy Boogie" is just what it says, grooving in a way AC/DC might have done had they been born and raised in Los Angeles. "All In The Name Of Rock" isn't what it seems. It's about underage sex and groupies with a bouncy Rock And Roll feel to it and, despite the sleazy subject matter, it's delightfully catchy. If you enjoy it, you need to say ten Hail Marys and a couple of How's Yer Fathers and subject yourself to hours of self-flagellation for punishment.
The Crüe were quite keen on chemical stimulants at the time this was recorded. "Something For Nothing" touched on the subject, along with prostitution and more groupies. It also has one of the best riffs Mick Mars ever played and you really get the feeling that life must be so tough for a Rock star...
"You're All I Need" is the compulsory Power Ballad. It's a sad account of teen love ending in murder due to the cheesy old "if I can't have you, no one will" line. Oddly, it almost seems like Vince Neil was feeling what he was singing. It has all the right ingredients for an 80s weepie: piano, acoustic guitar, big power chords and a wailing solo, soaring vocals, and the quiet/loud/quiet dynamic. Yet, it sounds strangely similar to Twisted Sister's version of "Leader Of The Pack".
If you want filler, you've got it. "Nona" is pretty dumb, as the entire lyrical content of the song is "Nona, I'm out of my head without you". Repeat ad nauseam over a cello and acoustic guitar. "Five Years Dead", a song about being in prison, isn't terribly bad, it's just not very good either. There's a live version of "Jailhouse Rock" tacked on the end of the album for no good reason other than to pad the album out. It's revved up a bit more than the original, but it's ultimately pointless.
`Girls, Girls, Girls' is probably three songs short of an amazing album, but the highlights here put to shame just about every other band of the Glam genre short of Guns N' Roses. This album's quick recording session helped Mötley Crüe regain their streetwise edge and restored some of their earlier fire. It didn't turn out quite how the band had expected but it set them up perfectly to record `Dr. Feelgood' two years down the track, perhaps the last great album of the Glam era.
Better than Theatre, Feelgood was on the horizon.............2005-11-29
This album sandwiched nicely between the glammy Theatre of Pain and the runaway success of Dr. Feelgood. After Theatre, the Crue went back to their bad boy image and left the glammy clothes in the closet (only to be stolen by Poison, Warrant, Pretty Boy Floyd, and countless other bands). The Crue was back to "bad boys out for the night" music and attitude. A breakdown....
1. Wild Side - By far the best song on the album. If only the album could keep up the intensity as it went on. Full of energy, great guitar riff, and total Crue subject matter.
2. Girls, Girls, Girls - This became a Crue signiture cut and will be played live until the Crue finally hangs it up. A rocking number with a bluesy riff, this glorifies the Crue's favorite hangout, strip joints. Nikki was heavy into heroin at this point and two really good songs was about all he was capable of (songs 1 and 2). The rest of this album could arguably be regarded as filler.
3. Dancing on Glass - A strange song that just doesn't quite cut it as a Crue classic.
4. Bad Boy Boogie - "Bad Boy Boogie (bad is bad)" as the chorus goes. Another song that is saved by Mick's guitar work. This song is woring with lyrics that seemed to be just thrown together without much thought. Those needles in the arm can really take most of your attention I guess.
5. Nona - This song was dedicated to Nikki's grandmother who had recently passed away. The only lyrics are 'Nona' and "I'm out of my head about you." OK then.
6. Five Years Dead - This song is pretty forgettable too, but it's interesting how this song could have been the idea that spawned the tune Dr. Feelgood.
7. All in the Name of... - why rock n roll of course. The Crue is starting to get it's second wind on the album now. Mick and Vince are really working hard on this one and I think it payed off. A forgotten song, but a lost classic for sure.
8. Sumthin' for Nuthin' - Hilarious. A sixteen year old gigalo who's clients are senior citizens. Autobiographical? When it comes to the Crue, it's anyone's guess.
9. You're All I Need - Ah love and murder go along so well together. If you love someone let them go, then kill them is the theme here. A touching ballad with very tongue in cheek Alice Cooper styled humor.
10. Jailhouse Rock [Live] Guess the Crue needed a song to fill out the album but couldn't quite get that tenth song, so they recorded this Elvis classic live. It's pretty good and captures the energy of a Crue concert.
11. Girls, Girls, Girls [Tom Werman and Band Intro] [Rough Mix] [Instrumental] It's these demos that show how talented Mick really is. Interesting how this song became the final cut.
12. Wild Side [Rough Mix] [Instrumental] Again, this is all Mick. He gets the least amount of credit in the Crue, but his sound makes the Crue.
13. Rodeo - This could have been buried forever and it would not have changed my life.
14. Nona [Demo Idea 2] [Instrumental] Again, this was probably not necessary unless you need every single thing the Crue digs up.
15. All in the Name Of [Live in Moscow] [Bonus Track] Ah, the Moscow Music Peace Festival with Cinderella, Ozzy, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Skid Row, etc. etc. Vince was in fine form on this. Like the studio cut, lots of energy.
16. Girls, Girls, Girls [Video] [Bonus Track] Who could ever forget the most notorious video the Crue ever put out. Dancing chicks, brass poles, motorcycles, and Mick playing guitar in the girl's dressing room. Simply awesome. One of the best vids to ever air on MTV. Right up there with Diamond Dave's "California Girls".
Not the best Crue album, but a solid effort.......2005-10-04
Motley Crue hit it big and gained a legion of fans with their classic sophomore album "Shout at the Devil" (1983). The band's third album "Theatre of Pain," (1985) solidified the Crue's place as one of rock's premier acts. 1987 saw the Crue continue to rule the rock world with their fourth album, "Girls Girls Girls."
Although "Theatre of Pain" was a multi platinum success and yielded two hit singles, ("Smokin' in the Boys Room," and "Home Sweet Home,") it was not the band's best work. Indeed, after two classic albums "Too Fast for Love" (1982), and "Shout at the Devil," "Theatre of Pain" seemed relatively lightweight and half-hearted in comparison.
"Girls Girls Girls" saw the Crue reinvent themselves to small degree. The band didn't abandon their sound, but they did tone down the glam a notch and opt for a meaner look and sound. The band embraced an image of Harleys and leather in place of spandex.
While "Girls Girls Girls" is still very much a pop-metal album, it is more aggressive and muscular than "Theatre of Pain."
After their first two classic albums, the band went on cruise-control with "Theatre of Pain" and "Girls Girls Girls." Be that as it may, "Girls Girls Girls" was still a return to form after the half-baked "Theatre of Pain." The entire album is better written with less filler, the band is tighter, and the overall performance is superior. Bassist Nikki Sixx came up with his best collection of songs since "Shout at the Devil."
One reason the sound of the Crue worked so well is the contrast between vocalist Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx. Neil is sunny and lively, while Sixx is dark and downbeat. The chemistry produces music that may seem superficially lighthearted but has a darker undertone. "Girls Girls Girls" highlights this interplay maybe more so than any other Crue album. Mick Mars's solos, while not brilliant, have a lot of soul and life. Drummer Tommy Lee, who is the most musically gifted musician in the Crue, gives the songs an extra shot of adrenalin.
Much like Guns N' Roses debut "Appetite for Destruction" (1987), "Girls Girls Girls" is a testament and a diary of living a life of drugs and debauchery in the sunset strip of LA in the 1980s. And while "Girls Girls Girls" doesn't quite pack the punch of "Appetite For Destruction," it comes in close at second place.
The album opens strong with the classic "Wild Side," one of the Crue's best songs. Immediately the tone for the album is set as rich images of life in abject poverty are brought to your ears. The albums raunchy title track is catchy, if not dated. Sixx's drug dependency confessional, "Dancing on Glass" is one of the Crue's more underrated songs. While at times the Crue seem to try a little too hard to sound dangerous, "Dancing on Glass" sounds genuinely lived in. "Bad Boy Boogie" is good, but not great, and is more-or-less filler. "Nona," an instrumental tribute to Sixx's grandmother, who raised him, is hauntingly beautiful.
The fast paced "Five Years Dead," "All in the Name of..." and "Sumthin' for Nothin'" aren't the strongest songs in the Crue's catalogue, but are good, and keep up the momentum. The infectious sing-along hooks keep these three from being just another batch of generic 80s hair-metal songs.
"You're All I Need" is, for me, the album's highlight and is one of the Crue's finest songs. Beautifully written, if it had had generic power-balled lyrics, it still would have been a great song. But rather, it's a song, told in first-person, of a man who kills his girlfriend-so he can have her forever and no one else can. The contrast between the disturbing lyrics, and the beautiful melody, makes this one of the Crue's most intriguing songs. It also features one of Mick Mars best solos, which is the perfect touch.
A cover of Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" stays more-or-less true to the original and is a good way to round out the album.
The remastered addiction of this CD includes several bonus songs. Instrumental rough mixes of "Nona," "Girls Girls Girls" and "Wild Side" shows the songs in progress and should be of interest to fans. A live rendition of "All in the Name of" isn't really necessary, but will be of interest to dedicated fans. Of the bonus material, the real highlight in the lush balled "Rodeo." Absent from "Girls Girls Girls" upon its release, it was unheard by the general public until the 1999 reissue. "Rodeo" could have been a big hit had it been released back in 1987. It is easily one of the most memorable songs from the 1987 sessions.
All in all, "Girls Girls Girls" contains a couple really good songs and a fair amount of filler. But even if it does contain a fair amount of filler, the filler is still pretty good. And while "Girls Girls Girls" may pale in compassion to some of their other work-"Too Fast For Love, "Shout at the Devil," "Motley Crue" (1994), it's still a fine album that should please most fans of the band and of 80s rock in general.
A fine hour in the classic era of Motley Crue.......2005-06-04
When it was the late 80's,no matter what year it was-a hair band would show up EVERY day-some of which included Slaughter(although their first album did not come out until early 1990),Warrant,Poison,Def Leppard, etc.and of course,Motley Crue. Even though their third album,"Theatre Of Pain"(1985)had had the hit songs/singles "Smokin' In The Boys Room"(which was not an original song by the group,it was a cover song)and the lovely ballad "Home Sweet Home"(this was an original song by the group),things were changing for The Crue-and not in a good way. Even though "Theatre Of Pain"went gold,a lot of Crue fans had a negative reaction to it(it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either)and not only that,by the time it had been released,Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx,Tommy Lee,and Mick Mars had all become druggies and alcoholics(Vince Neil even served time in jail around that point because of drunk driving and manslaughter)-which meant that The Crue were going to have to pull themselves together and make a new album, which would become "Girls,Girls,Girls". Would it be any good? Read on for my review of this:
This CD is defnitely a fine hour in the classic era of Motley Crue, and it was a big step up from "Theatre Of Pain".The songwriting here was also a bit of a step up for The Crue compared to the material they had written and recorded for "Too Fast For Love" and "Shout At The Devil". The opening track,"Wild Side",is very cool and tough and kind of sounds like a lighter version of Quinten Tarantino's classic "Pulp Fiction" film if it was a song and not a film, the title track rocks, and other highlights to be found here are "Five Years Dead","All In The Name Of...",and "You're All I Need",which has really pretty music(there is even a piano on this track)and lyrics(deep and good ones)which are similiar to the lyrics of Aerosmith's classic "Janie's Got A Gun" song, even though the lyrics to this song are a different concept then that song(Janie).
All of Motley Crue's albums have been re-issued(that was around 2003)and because of that, this album is a great album made even greater. There are expanded liner notes, the CD is enhanced and features the "Girls,Girls,Girls"music video on there, and five bonus tracks were included here:the live version of "All In The Name Of...",instrumentals for "Wild Side",the title track on this album, and "Nona",as well as a demo for a song that was never released at all:"Rodeo".
This album is definitely, without question, one of Motley Crue's best albums, and also one of the best hair metal records. The title track did not get overplayed like some people thought Warrant's "Cherry Pie" song did(it(Cherry Pie)maybe got overplayed a little but it was a great song/album also)so that helped the album and Motley Crue stay around. Like I already said, the guys in Motley Crue all worked harder on this record then they had on "Theatre Of Pain"(again, not a bad record, but not outstanding either)so sit back, relax, crank it up,and enjoy a great record by a first rate hair metal group:Motley Crue.

Satisfied.......2007-05-22
Thanks for getting me this CD in a hurry. Really enjoying it. And thanks the quality is very good.
Total Change.......2007-02-01
Now Hear This...! This is one of THE BEST Hard Rock Albums I have EVER heard. It matters not to me that everyone wanted to blame John Corabi for the failure of this Album. This was a promo discovery for me. I had heard Motley Crue before and WAS NOT impressed. IT WAS THE SINGER ! When Corabi was dropped into the mix EVERYTHING changed. The other Three members were ripe for this guy. They became a REAL band on this CD. It is the ONLY Motley Crue Album I will ever own. Anyone who wants to hear some KILLER Rock should invest in this CD. It ranks with anything else out there. PRIMO...''Hooligan's Holiday'' alone is worth getting it...but the rest of the CD is absolutely marvelous.
THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME.......2006-11-25
This album rocks in every way, shape, or form. Without a doubt right behind Dr.Feelgood. I really believe that if this album was promoted today with songs like uncle jack, loveshine, and misunderstood because I think those songs fit in with the rock thats on the radie today, that this album would be a hit. And you know why...because most kids that listen to rock radio now are too yuong or dont even know Motley Crue. Therefore they wouldnt judge it over the singer being Corabi, they would judge it for the awesome music. Thats the way it should have been in 94, judged for the music not the name of the band or the singer, which nikki sixx even said if they changed the name of the band it would have been a hit. Anway, awesome album and anyone who hasnt heard it is missing out, so definately buy this album!
The Crue at it's Best - Bring back Corabi!.......2006-10-26
What band is this? It can't be the circus act that recorded Theatre of Pain or Dr. Feelgood. The playing is better. The songs are better. Jon Corabi filling Vince Neil's shoes? Vince Neil's shoes should have been left on the curb. Corabi MAKES this album and in another place and time, THIS version of Motley Crue would have gone on to rule the 90's metal scene the way the old version ruled the 80's. There is more texture, maturity, musicianship, and good songwriting in the weakest song on this album than the ENTIRE Crue catalog combined.
"Home Sweet Home" you say? I give you "Misunderstood."
"Kickstart My Heart" you say? I give you "Welcome To the Numb."
On and on and on, this album kicks Motley's collective past efforts off the planet. Solid, aggressive, soulful, and sadly, a commercial failure. If vibe was more important than money, this is the Crue that would be together today. The radio and their fans failed them by not picking up on the brilliance of this disc.
Don't make the same mistake.
John Corabi To The Rescue.......2006-07-30
The Crue parted ways with singer Vince Neil in the idle years following their hit, "Dr. Feelgood," replacing him with hoarse shouter John Corabi, who could not sound less like Neil. The resulting album was in a sense their highest quality album, but have little to do with Motley Crue as we know them.
Corabi would seem to be the driving force of the songwriting instead of bassist Nikki Sixx and you have to give the Crue credit for taking such a risk. Gone is the sleaze and much of the metal riffing, replaced with more serious lyrics and bottom-heavy, sometimes grunge influenced rock. Although the hooks aren't the focus and the songs may be less memorable initially than their previous output, the band sounds revitalized as they embrace the new material. The music is much more ambitious and instrumentally satisfying than any of their other efforts.
Fans of John Corabi (from the Scream and Union), who truly succeeds in breathing new life into the Crue, will love this. Longtime fans may feel differently, though as there are only a couple of songs I can envision Vince Neil singing, if I imagine hard enough. This is easily one of the Crue's most consistent albums in terms of quality songwriting and is a very enjoyable effort, even though most Crue fans will want to pretend it didn't happen.

Sounds even better now..........2007-01-11
I really liked this CD when it came out, but when I listen to it now I LOVE it. At the time it kind of bothered me that it didn't have that Bob Rock produced sound, but that's one of the things I really appreciate about it now. There's not one weak song in the bunch - even the bonus tracks are killer. If I had to pick favorites I would say "Find Myself", "Generation Swine", "Confessions" and "Let Us Pray". A lot of people have poked fun at Tommy's "Brandon", but if you open your mind, get past the opening, you'll find it's a really beautiful piece that DOES belong on this CD, as it marks that period in the Crue's history. If we ever get another Crue CD I hope this is where they pick up where they left off. Long live Motley Crue!
One of the Crue's Greatest Albums Ever........2007-01-06
First off let me say that this album is purely amazing, it is great because its a reunion tour, and it showcases Motley Crue's talent from all 4 band members. This album really requires your full attention, and an open mind, and you truly have to respect music if your going to like this album. Nikki Sixx - Really show's off his bass talent, and song writing is improved, and he even sings on one songs, and its amazing. Mick Mars - Really show's off his guitar playing on this album, even though he dosen't like this style of music, and the distortion, it sounds great like he really put in all of his effort, and its a shame because he was treated like crap in the studio and his riffs are amazing here. Vince Neil - Show's really how amazing his singing is, and I mean amazing, people say the songs weren't made for his voice, he pulls them off real well with a lower voice. Tommy Lee - Show's off his Singing, Druming, and Songwriting - Writing some of the songs on the album, also show's off his piano. Though the lyrics and music is alot Darker then other albums, the band pulls the darkness off very poetically.
Cd packaging - Comes in hardcover case. 5/5
Inserts - Good, with lyrics, and pics, and its upside down because its Motley like that. 5/5
Cd - Great remaster, with video, and new tracks. 5/5
Songs
Find Myself - Really good opener, show's the drama in the band, and gets it off on a good edge, Even Nikki's Son is a musician in this song. 5/5
Afraid - Another Great song, with great bass opening, and lyrics, and back up music. 5/5
Flush - A great anti suicide song with dramatic riffs. 5/5
Generation Swine - A mix of Grunge and Hair metal the title track is very anthem like, and its great 5/5
Confessions - A great song about how the band is changing there ways very great. 5/5
Beauty - A true beauty of a song, with good industrial metal for a change, although I don't like much industrial this song is great. 5/5
Glitter - A great New age Track Great lyrics by sixx, and a true love song. 5/5
Anybody Out there? - This song started out amazing like classic crue sounding, mixed with Grunge, it was going to be great but its way too short. Deffinently the weak point of the album. 2/5
Let Us Prey - Another good song by this band, very grunge sounding. 5/5
Rocketship - A great song sung by Nikki Sixx for his wife, very creative. 5/5
A Rat Like Me - I don't know why people say this is a throw away track, Anybody Out there is the throw away, not this one, this one is also a mix of hair and grunge. 5/5
Shout at the Devil '97 - A good song, that was probably made so they could see what fans thought of Corabi doing there old songs, but alas Vince came back - not a bad thing, and it still sounds good but now its just filler, its good filler, but still filler. They play this one live, and its really good. 4/5
Brandon - Dedicated to Pam Anderson, and Brandon Lee - Tommy Sings and its great. 5/5
Afraid ( Swine Mix/Jimbo Mix) - It's a tad Distorted, but still good 4/5
Wreck Me ( Unrealeased) - A great track that should have been on the Album 5/5
Kiss The Sky ( unrealeased) Another great Track that should have been on the album.
Rocketship Demo - Not as good as released one. Alot missing. 3/5
Confessions - Tommy sings his voice isn't good on this song. 3/5
Afraid video - 5/5 great video.
So as you can see its not like Most Crue Records, but it's still good. Get it its well worth your buy.
Overall - 4.6 Rounded to 5
UNDERRATED.......2006-11-15
This CD is a classic!!!!! So they altered their sound a bit, so what? This and the Corabi CD will never get the props they deserve. The title track should've been the first single. Give it another listen!
Vince Neil May Be Back, But Swine Is A Big Step Back.......2006-07-30
Vince Neil returned for "Generation Swine" in an effort for the Crue to start making some money again. However, the result was a horrible album that showed the band going through the motions in a lame attempt to modernize their sound.
Although mostly uncredited, John Corabi apparently co-wrote many of these songs before he was dismissed from the band. I can only imagine the songs might suit his style more than they did Vince Neil. Die-hard fans might find it interesting to hear Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx singing lead on some tracks, but almost all of the songs are at best lousy.
On a somewhat related note, in the summer of 2006, John Corabi was playing with "Adler's Appetite" and was touring briefly with Vince Neil (solo). One night, Corabi actually saved Vince's show by stepping in to sing Crue songs with his backing band when Vince was too drunk to perform.
she's my beauty they call her miss devine..hmmm not .......2006-02-04
the crue are bak and by the looks of the cover tryin' to make themselves cool again and following the trends of the times like most washed up eighties hair metal bands try[well most haven't got the poodles to wash anymore]
this album generation swines starts off with "find myself" a explict
song that has a decent riff[john corabi's voice would suit it better]
afraid is the lassic track that kicks this half shot album into per-portion.."flush" medium to good half way to bad..
"generation swines" the title track has a certain charm but just doesn't go anywhere
"confessions" some great lyrics and vocal performance
the highlight for me
"beauty" the distorted song that you wouldn't think that motley crue had it in them to pull an album of this quality in their hat
the rest of the five songs suck eggs so no need to descibe how i feel about them
"shout at the devil 97" is abit of an odd ball..why need to re-recorded a song..a bit of a alright
"brandon" the "sentimental" love letter for brandon lee and pamela anderson...that at first listen i thought awww it's cute he wrote a sweet song then after the second listen i though ewww what a cheeseball of a song
what a dreadful way to end a decent album with the crue trying to keep with the trends and failing misery atleast their next album "new tattoo" was an un-define success and bought the crue rocking to a great tune[without tommy lee until the re-union tour were the circus is back on the road]

Almost lame.............2007-07-04
Honestly this is the third worst release from the Crue - after Generation Swine and Theatre of Pain. But there are some tracks that are decent such as White Punks on Dope (cover song go figure), Fake and New Tattoo are decent catchy Crue tracks. Castillo does an adequate job (God rest his soul) and Mars is his typical high standard guitar playing. Sixx on the other hand f'd up the lyrics throughout this release. Neil - well he sounds good and that is about it.
A return to form.......2006-01-26
Motley Crue, arguably the biggest pop-metal band of the 1980s, had a tough time in the 1990s. First there was the falling out and ensuing feud between vocalist Vince Neil and the rest of the band. Then there were the alternative and grunge moments that made the Crue's style of music passé. The Crue responded to the public's change in taste by releasing the grunge-sounding "Motley Crue" (1994) album with vocalist John Corabi that was a huge bomb. Then, despite Neil's return to the band, there was another flop with the faux industrial/alt.rock-esque "Generation Swine" (1997). All the while internal problems persisted. Unable to get along, drummer Tommy Lee and Neil almost killed each other at an Airport in the late 90s. Frustrated with both Neil and the band's audience for not liking the Crue's attempts to modernize, Lee quit the group in the summer of '99 to form the Nu-Metal outfit Methods of Mayhem. The final blow came when the Crue left their record label Electra, although they did receive the complete rights to their master-tapes, so they could re-release and repackage their back-catalogue as they saw fit.
Despite a decade that didn't treat them too kindly, at the dawn of the new millennium, the Crue soldiered on. The first task at hand was finding a new drummer. Randy Castillo, formally of Ozzy Osbourne's band, was tapped to replace Tommy Lee. With a new drummer, a new label, and a fresh perspective, Nikki Sixx, (bass) Mick Mars, (guitar) Vince Neil, (vocals) and Randy Castillo (drums) went into the studio in the spring of 2000 to record their eighth studio album.
For Motley Crue's self-titled album and "Generation Swine," the band tried to modernize. While some fans appreciated the Crue's more modern, updated sound (I personally feel that the self-titled album is the Crue's finest work) the public didn't bite. Fans of old-school 80s rock hated anything that wasn't about T and A, and why would a younger audience want to listen to an 80s rock band try to sound like music of their generation?
For their new album, the Crue decided to return to their roots and make an old-school, 80s sunset-strip, pop-metal album. In order to make an 80s style album, Guns N' Roses producer Mike Clint was brought on board. Assisting main songwriter and Crue leader Nikki Sixx in writing the songs was the unknown James Michael. After a few months in the studio, the Crue unleashed "New Tattoo" in the summer of 2000.
Fans are mixed on "New Tattoo." Some feel that it's the band's best work since "Dr. Feelgood" and a return to the sound of classic Crue after years of trend-hopping. Others, however, feel that it's a half-baked attempt to go back in time, or rehash a style where the well of creativity has long since run dry. To be sure, "New Tattoo" definitely sounds like old-school Crue. It actually sounds as though it could have come out around 1988, between "Girls, Girls, Girls" (1987) and "Dr. Feelgood" (1989).
While I don't love this album, I like it a lot. It has a lot going for it. For one thing, the band sounds great. "Theatre of Pain" (1985) and "Girls, Girls, Girls" may have had well-written songs, but the band was so smacked out of its mind on coke, heroin and booze, the quality of the music suffered. On "New Tattoo," the music is done in a similar pop-metal vein (melodic with a sing along chorus) only now the band sounds focused, and the performance is top-notch. Vince Neil gives the best vocal performance of his career with the title-track and sounds great throughout the entire album. Mick Mars's playing is also great, as his soloing has never sounded better and is pure ear candy. Similarly, Sixx and Castillo offer a solid rhythm section, thus making the band sound tight from start to finish.
"New Tattoo" is not as complex or ambitious as "Motley Crue" or "Generation Swine." It's a back-to-basics type of album, which is fine, as the album is generally very well written. There are a couple of weak songs, like the okay-but-not-great opening (and first single) "Hell on High Heals," and "Punched in the Teeth by Love," which sound like clichéd, by-the-numbers hair-metal. The rest of the album, however, is quite strong. The songs are generally fast-paced hard-rockers, that have good hooks and strong melodies that should definitely please fans of the pop-metal genre. The obligatory ballads, "New Tattoo," and "Hollywood Ending" are far less generic than most of its type, and show maturity, without loosing its edge.
The album's biggest flaw, however, are the lyrics. The Crue's lyrics (especially "Theatre of Pain" thought "Dr. Feelgood") have always been somewhat cheesy, but they're especially bad here, as titles such as "Treat Me like the Dog that I am" and "She Needs Rock N' Roll" would suggest. And while the Crue's lyrics in the past were somewhat cheesy, they were still edgy, and the Crue's members were young, and it was in the 80s, so the band gets a pass for past offensives. But in 2000, a middle-aged Crue has no excuse and the band just sounds goofy. Still, the cheesy lyrics don't ruin the album, as the band's top-notch performance and mostly solid collection of songs are more than enough to make this a strong release.
If you are a fan of Motley Crue or 80s-style hard-rock in general, you will probably get something out of this album. Despite a few bad songs and poor lyrical content, it's still a solid album. On a sad note, Randy Castillo succumbed to cancer and died a few years after the release of "New Tattoo."
QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT...ITS THE CRUE!!!!!.......2005-08-05
I don't see why every one is bashing New Tattoo! People complained about Crue '94 and Generation Swine because it was too much of a departure from the Shout, Girls and Feelgood style. Everybody bitched, everybody pissed and everybody moaned . So...Nikki and the boyz decide to release a good 'ol fashioned Crue album to satisfy all these "hair rockers" that are now Losing their hair or aging very ungracefully by the time of it's release. What they gave us is a Motley Crue record. In the same style of those mentioned previously. It has all all the trimmin's!!!! Arena anthems, ballads and just plain ol raunch and roll. For this recording, Tommy Lee stepped aside to focus on Methods of Meyhem (another EXCELLENT attempt for what it is...) and former Ozzy drummer Randy Castillo joined the Crue, pounding away like clockwork. Songs like hell on High Heels, Treat Me Like the Dog I Am, New Tattoo, Punched In The Teeth By Love are perfect Motley Crue songs. Catchy, sleezy, melodic Crue songs to suit the taste buds of any Crue fan. See, what happened is this album came out as metal changed. Gone were the 80's style metal that we all know and love dearly. I am a fan of each and all genres of all eras, and New Tattoo gets a 4 out of 5 for me. Why not 5? Well, while it's a decent release, it's not a very stong one. The 4 is for the good tunes and for an EXCELLENT cover of the Tubes', White Punks On Dope! The other thing that makes this a very strong 4 is the sound quality! A crystal clear engineering job well done...if only the first 4 could have been recorded like this...! To Mr. Randy Castillo, thanks for giving us one more round of skin pounding before making you way to rock and roll Heaven. R.I.P brother...we'll NEVER forget you!
Lame.......2005-08-03
NEW TATTOO(2000).Motley Crue's eigth(studio)album.
By the year 2000,Motley Crue had seen and done it all. They had accidently killed their best friends in car accidents, they had beatun up their wifes and gotten arrested and charged with spousal abuse--you name it,and there is a good chance that either Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx,Tommy Lee,and/or Mick Mars had done it. And a year before the twenty-first century arrived,The Crue released a new studio album in the summer of 2000. How did the album meausure up? Read on for my review of this:
This album, along with THEATRE OF PAIN,MC '94,and GENERATION SWINE,is a "love it or hate it" album. I'd also say that it is easily the worst album Motley Crue has EVER released. And while Nikki Sixx usually contributes most of the work to Motley Crue albums, the Crue member who probably did most of the work here is drummer Randy Castillo(RIP)who had been hired as Motley Crue's replacement drummer after Tommy Lee had quit the band to do his Methods of Mayhem project. Castillo was a good drummer(he died from complications of cancer in 2002)and when a replacement member of a band deserves the most credit for the first album the band that hired him for and had recorded with him,you know that's not a good sign. The only good tracks on here(whether or not I like the title track depends on the mood I am in while listening to it)are the opener HELL ON HIGH HEELS,FAKE,and their cover of The Tubes' WHITE PUNKS ON DOPE(it is one of their best cover songs)--everything else here is just really bad. And while the lyrics are quite stupid also, how many agree with me that the dialogue on TREAT ME LIKE THE DOG I AM and PORNO STAR is annoying? Apart from the good songs on this CD,the songs here just sound unispired and are all quite stupid-I wouldn't say that Motley Crue was exactly returning to their original sound on this album. Them returning to their original sound shows at times during this record, but with this CD,after listening to it,it may seem a little apparent that Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx, and Mick Mars wanted half of this album to sound like their original material(DR. FEELGOOD,GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS,etc.)while they wanted half of it to sound like the kind of rock music that was popular back in 2000-they didn't want us to think that, but guess what--we caught what they were hoping we wouldn't be able to tell after their fans had listened to this record.
Overall,a dreadful CD that could have been and should have been totally better--Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx, and Mick Mars should have put more effort into this CD then they really did. And here is the bottom line:get their new two disc greatest hits set RED,WHITE,AND CRUE--that way,you will get HELL ON HIGH HEELS and the single version of the title track off of this album, and then download the other two good tracks on this album(the tracks that I mentioned at the top of this review, and the bonus tracks here--if you want them)and then skip the rest. Now that Tommy Lee is back with the band, hopefully Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx, and Mick Mars will make a new, decent studio album that WILL sound more like DR. FEELGOOD,GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS,etc.(I always found MC '94 to be underappreciated--I liked GENERATION SWINE,but I can see why some(or most)Crue fans don't care for it). Enough said--although I am looking forward for seeing The Crue in concert one month from now).
crue definetly back with classic sound.......2005-06-10
If you like old motley crue you will like this one. It is super catchy, nice guiter parts, and just a feel great rock record, that doesn't try to make some big social comment or take itself too seriously. It just goes out and rocks.

pretty good, but not great.......2007-01-12
This is the third album by Motley. They had already become arena warriors with their previous album "Shout at the Devil". While "Shout" and "To fast for love were great", this album finds Motley Crue slipping a bit. Their are some good songs:"Save our souls, Louder then hell, Home sweet home, but their are also plenty of filler like "fight for your rights" and "Raise your hand to rock". The punk feel and attitude of their first two albums is all but abandoned. While the songs are as catchy as ever, Motley Crue sounds slightly subdued. It's a good album, but after the first two discs Motley Crue seems like their excesses are starting to catch up to them.
Theatre of Pain, a hard to rate album........2006-11-23
The Theatre of Pain album came out in 1985 right when hair metal was starting to take over the scene. Now Motley Crue were always more glam then hair, but in this album they are full blown hair metal, and thats not nessecarily a bad thing. However, this album pictures Motley Crue at there worst shape, all 4 members were dependent on drugs and it was starting to slur there music and song writing. Along with the fact a few songs were over played. Let's look at the cd packaging.
Cd is remastered perfectly with bonus tracks and is in hard cover case. 5/5
Inserts - alot of cool photo's, linear notes from the band members, and song lyrics are all included. 5/5
Song time
City Boy Blues - This is my favorite track on the album, its got good lyrics and good music to go along with it, a great opener. 5/5
Smokin' in the Boys Room - This song is one of the most over rated, and over played Motley Crue songs, it dosen't even sound that good, if it weren't so played it might not be so bad but in this case it is, I do listen to it but not very often. 2/5
Louder Then Hell - This is a short song, with some good lyrics and good music to back it up, my 2nd favorite song on the cd. 5/5
Keep Your Eye on the Money - This song was a message from the band telling them not to sell out and make sure you know your audience, its an ok song with good music. 4/5
Home Sweet Home - This is the better of the singles for this cd, but this one isn't that good either, its highly over rated but its better then smokin'. 3/5
Tonight (we need a lover) - This song isn't that bad, its got ok lyrics and ok music, but just not that super, 4/5
Use it OR Lose it - Another short song on the cd but this one sounds decent. 4/5
Save Our Souls - this song seems a bit repetitive, but it still sounds ok, just not superb. 4/5
Raise Your Hands to Rock - This song is not that good, Vince's voice sounds annoying on it, and the music isn't that good and its short in time length. 2/5
Fight for Your Rights - This song is good, it had good lyrics and the music is good enough to back it up. 5/5
Bonus Tracks -
Home Sweet Home Demo - This demo actually sounds better then the song, if they had put this one on instead of the one they did, it would have been a better song. 4/5
Smokin' in the boys room - It dosen't have the harmonica on it, which does make the song sound a little better. 3/5
City Boy Blues - This demo is actually better then the song they put on it, and I love the one they put on it. 5/5
Home Sweet Home instrumental - this is ok, just its not that good. 2/5
Keep Your Eye on the Money - Once again, this demo is better then the song. 5/5
Tommy's Drum piece - This is a rare track that has alot of value for true crue fans, 5/5
Along with a video for Home Sweet Home - that video is ok, but not good enough. 3/5
So over all if they had put the demo's on it instead if would have sounded alot better, it would have sounded more like Shout at the Devil. However they were in the studio for months doing this cd, and it was way too over glossed.
overall rating - 4/5
Forget about the singles!.......2006-09-04
Besides Smokin' and Home Sweet Home, I think this Crue album rocks....Use it or Lose it, Louder than Hell, Fight for your Rights, Tonight, etc. Who really cares what trend was goin on....forget the fashion for a minute and listen to the tunes.
Im into much heavier stuff these days, but I always dug the Crue's brand of rock and roll, and this one jams......they just need to re-release it without the above mentioned Home..and Smokin.
rocks hardcore.......2006-07-15
one of my favorite Motley Crue Albums, i bought this when it first came out and played it so much that i wore it out. i really recommend this to anyone new to crue :)
hegelian self-alienation.......2006-06-24
this is the 2nd worst example of a band merely following a trend that they themselves had initiated; instead of the stuff coming out of themselves, they wind up imitating themselves, imitating the people that had imitated them in the first place. on their 1st and best album, "Too Fast for Love" mot cru didn't know what they were doing: punk, pop, metal, all of the above. This made it raw, edgy, unformulaic. As their direction became more focused with the 2nd album, "Shout at the Devil", they basically invented glam metal, or at least were in on the ground floor. It came from within, unpremeditated. But then with "Theater of Pain", it's like they were consciously saying "hey, let's be glam metal", and ended up looking like a parody of themselves, imitating their imitators, like Ratt or Cinderella or whatever. And the songwriting was strictly mediocre. They did return to form somewhat with grls x3 and dr. flgd.
Just in case you're wondering, the all-time worst instance of this syndrome is the once-mighty Metallica's unlistenable "St Anger", where they sound like they're copying the nu-metal/rap-metal folks that had learned everything they knew from Metallica in the first place.
