Old black-metal practitioners never die, but their puns get slightly whiffy. Incineratehymn finds vets Deicide listlessly picking through the same old pile of bones, a shadow of their once hell-raising self. Where Deicide once seemed to be the unimpeachable paragons of all that is evil, Insineratehymn finds them playing second fiddle to the educated blasphemy of Marilyn Manson , or competing with the industrial thunder of Type O Negative. What once was radical now seems slightly quaint. Meanwhile, the music--never the most convincing example of the devil having all the best tunes, it has to be said--rests upon indulgent guitar solos and chugging metal squall. Perhaps it's time for them to meet their maker. Whoever that might be. --Louis Pattison

4 out of 5 stars Surprised ME!.......2007-04-02

I was quite shocked that I really liked "Insineratehymn" and as much as the band hates the last two releases from Roadrunner Records, I thought this was actually solid. I have slowly been adding Deicide back into my collection, as I only had the first two albums. I wasn't suprised that "In torment in Hell" was going to suck, since most of you reviewers, plus the band, hated it. I was surprised to find out that I liked this one even better then "Once Upon The Cross" and "Serpents of the Light" since those were albums that got great reviews. I think what most people didnt like, is the band slowed down just a tad for this one, and Deicide has always been known for all out speed. Yet, it gives them a chance of pace, and sometimes thats a good thing, when the band can get somewhat stale sometimes. A solid release. This is so much more then I expected, Maybe some other Deicide fans will like this one to. ENJOY

5 out of 5 stars a favorite among the others.......2007-03-29

This was the first Deicide album that really got me into them... I heard a few samples and was blown away by the vocals... for me music is about the vocals. Of course that was five years ago and it's only recent that I picked up this album... but I don't regret it. Each song is great stuff... good riffs and solos... and even some catchiness like Forever Hate You and Worst Enemy. Only complaint I have about this is the ending part of the last track... squealing pigs don't do it for me *sorry*. And the songs are short... but Deicide's known for that. I don't know why people bash this album and others by Deicide so much... the lyrics are expected to be about Satan and violence against God (after all... Deicide DOES mean "killing of God"). So... lets stop the complaining and hear a little more appreciation for some goood death metal shall we?

1 out of 5 stars just....yuck..........2006-06-14

i was actually GIVEN this CD shortly after it's release. i honestly have to say, it is horrible. don't get me wrong, i enjoy OLD Deicide. Deicide, Once Upon The Cross, Legion and yes, i liked Serpents of The Light as well. but this record...probably one of the worst i've ever heard. the same old regurgitated garbage. the only thing that keeps me interested in hearing new Deicide, is the fact that i realize this was one of the two last records that the band released merely so they could escape their contract with road runner. unfortunately i have not gotten to hear any new Deicide but i surely hope they've redeemed themselves for this record.

1 out of 5 stars Totally cliche death metal band.......2006-03-01

Eh,I prefer to listen to a band where every other word isnt "satan". I mean bible basher is a catchy song that i sorta like and i guess the gift that keeps on giving is....ok.I had this cd at one point and ending up giving it away cause it was repetitive,I did the same thing with "once upon the cross".Besides that, now the hoffman brothers are out of the band.If u want to listen to death metal that doesnt just doesnt scream satan in every sentence try origin, exhumed, lord gore, and cryptopsy

2 out of 5 stars another crappy album.......2006-01-19

anything after Once Upon the Cross is crap, I have no clue to how one of death metal bands that I grew up listening to could put out a album like Serpents of the Light and this.
