"They're the most extreme band that I've ever worked with," explained Ross Robinson, record producer (Slipknot, Glassjaw, and At the Drive-In) and acknowledged figurehead of the nu-metal movement. He is talking of course about his protegés, Amen, whose recording sessions have culminated in this Californian four-piece's second album, We Have Come for Your Parents, a 45-minute distillation of hardcore attitude, gothic self-hatred, and nihilistic death-metal grind. Oh, and some great tunes, as well. The most obvious is "May Day," which has frontman Casey Chaos flipping Mom's good ol' apple pie off the table, stamping it into the dirt and bellowing, somewhat mystifyingly, "Take your Bible! Burn it alive!" All this unmistakably top stuff is presented without a hint of dilution; Amen know they don't need to shoehorn in a ham-fisted hip-hop loop or uncomfortable junglist foray to get the kids on side. Mom and Dad, watch out--on We Have Come for Your Parents, Amen sound unstoppable. --Louis Pattison

4 out of 5 stars An unholy war against your eardrums!.......2007-02-03

Obviously angry at religion, these guys really know how to vent that anger. Creating a straight in your face album that rips into everything and leaves all in its path dead, Amen have cemented themselves as the band most nu-metal acts could only wish to become. They are afraid of nothing and no one and it shows in their intensity and defiance of all that is quote-unquote holy. With coarse vocals and bleeding musicianship Amen is surely not for everyone but for those with an open mind and an ear for talent will be impressed by the passion within this music.

Songs like `Mayday' and `Dead on the Bible' may be offensive to those lacking that open mind but songs like the infectious `The Price of Reality' and `Refuse Amen' are sure to make up for offensive lyrics with brilliant delivery. With all this praise truth be told, this is not my favorite band and far from my favorite album but I appreciate and commend their determination to be themselves, never to compromise and that attitude will keep them on top to their fans and to themselves and that is worthy of plenty of recognition and praise!

3 out of 5 stars Half amazing, half mediocore.......2007-01-09

The first half of this album is great, the rest just kind of recycles their sound and gets boring. Definately a great album to get pumped up to. But for those who say this is the most extreme punk band out there you should check out the "leftover crack/choking victim/INDK" (lesser) collective: best screamer EVER...and a great mix of punk, evil sounding ska, hardcore, metal, and scream-o. Give em a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Holy hell..........2006-12-18

Seriously, if you are a fan of extreme music and you do not own EVERYTHING Amen, there is something wrong. This was supposed to be the album that sent Amen into the hard rock stratosphere. Instead, true to their convictions, Casey and the boys delivered one of the most contraversial albums to grace a major label. You think Manson is over the top? Please. Casey Chaos is without a doubt the most dedicated ARTIST in punk rock. The music speaks for itself. It is loud, abrasive, strangely catchy, and original. No matter what genre you try to fit Amen into, they continue to infect others. Highly recommended album. Not for the faint of heart.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2006-01-07

I'll agree with the other reviewers here who say that Amen isn't punk. It's not. Certainly not metal, either. I'm not sure what it is. Trying to do a Korn/Linkin Park/Fugazi fusion thing. There's nothing original here, except for their ability to actually get someone stoned enough to sign to a label. The songs just don't have a point. All they do is whine. This drivel is best relegated to the dollar bin at record stores, or the $0.05 cent section on Amazon. Oh wait, that's where it is now.

5 out of 5 stars Labels are for sophomoric idiots........2005-11-03

Look, this isn't going to be a lengthy review...in short, anyone who labels Amen as "punk" or "nu-metal" needs to find another band to listen to. Amen sounds like Amen...no one else. No rapping, no keyboards, no crappy production, and no snotty vocals...this isn't punk, this isn't nu-metal...this is Amen.

5 out of 5 stars The beginnings of an influential artist..........2006-04-28

?? "Slave" is a necessity if you are familiar with Amen or Casey Chaos-- it shows exactly how the sound developed from an experimental descent into hell into a career of destruction and chaos. All the songs are written by Casey Chaos alone, and I believe he tracked all of the guitars and bass. But there are some weird satanic soundtrack masterpieces as well- "Excommunicamus" which also appeared on a Christian Death release and a bone-chilling funeral dirge called "Hands Of Cancer" (one of the bonus tracks). Definately a must for the Amen collection
