5 out of 5 stars Another Great Two-Fer From A Great Texas Rock Band.......2007-03-02

AMERICAN EXCE$$/ON A ROLL is yet another great two-fer from Texas rock band Point Blank and its pro-law-enforcement leader, guitarist Rusty Burns. Bubba Keith has replaced John O'Daniel on vocals, giving the band a slightly more commercial sound and style, but this set is still great. Now if only AIRPLAY and THE HARD WAY would be properly reissued.

5 out of 5 stars Like a Pop/Rock 2fer Blast from the Past!.......2007-01-21

Recently while traveling out of town I heard the song Nicole on the radio. How cool! I hadn't heard it in years and couldn't remember who it was by. It sorta stuck in my mind so I did the research and discovered Point Blank CD's on Amazon. I didn't really understand initially but this turns out to be two albums combined on one disc. I didn't remember until it arrived but "On A Roll" is an album I'd bought clear back in 1980 that had some great music on it too!

5 out of 5 stars Southern Rock At It's Best!.......2006-02-19

I've had "Airplay" on vinyl for years and love it. I ran across this double cd and thought I'd check it out and WOW! This is a great two-on-one cd. I love every song here. Great guitars...great keyboards...great vocals! Point Blank is an extremely overlooked old rock band. Sadly, they just don't make em like this anymore. This is one of the best cd purchases I've made in recent months. Highly recommended!

3 out of 5 stars Includes AOR hit "Nicole".......2004-12-14

TWO ALBUMS ON ONE CD.
***"American Exce$$" was Point Blank's big moment and included included a sizable AOR hit Nicole - you'll remember the very memorable driving rhythm. The album has great production for the era and another minor radio song, Let Me Stay With You Tonight. Extra points for awsome album art.
***"On a Roll" also featured two minor AOR radio tracks, Great White Line and the title track. Though, perhaps more memorable, is the introspective deep cut, Gone Hollywood - Just as American Exce$$ had awsome artwork, On A Roll has one of the wost covers of the 80s.
FYI - AOR stands for Album Oriented Rock, a very sucsessful FM radio format in the late 70s and early 80s. ...Post disco, pre Madona. Quite a lot of these stations evolved into Classic Rock stations as the format died in the late 80s and early 90s. Point Blank is one of the many bands that were sucsessful in the AOR era, but were excluded from most classic rock programing.

5 out of 5 stars Rock In The 70s Rule!!!.......2007-05-13

POINT BLANK - POINT BLANK / SECOND SEASON

This is now a part of my 2,217 collection of albums & videos (and still counting).

This is again rock music at its best! Rock In The Seventies Rules!!! In the 70s we simply called them just Hard Rock or Heavy Rock! This one is hard rock with a taste of blues. But other will call this music Southern Rock among other acts like Black Oak ArkansasRaunch 'N' Roll Live, Molly HatchetMolly Hatchet - Greatest Hits [Expanded], Lynyrd SkynyrdLynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird The Movie / Tribute Tour, Outlaws, Blackfoot, Ozark Mt DaredevilsTime Warp: The Very Best of Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top & 38 Special to name a few.

This is the original line-up of Point Blank. Rusty Burns on guitar, slide guitar and vocals. Kim Davis on guitar and vocals. Peter Gruen on drums and percussions. John O' Daniel on vocals and Philip Petty on the bass.

Listen particularly on the songs Freeman, Moving and Wandering and you'll be looking for more Point Blank albums. I've got their album The Hard Way and this is an excellent one unfortunately there is no release in CD.

Lots of good songs and lots of guitar playing in these 2 albums, so get it now before they run out of copies!

5 out of 5 stars Great Two-Fer From Pro-Law-Enforcement Texas Boogie-Rockers.......2007-02-08

POINT BLANK/SECOND SEASON is a great reissue of the first two albums from the Texas Southern rock band Point Blank, whose lead guitarist, Rusty Burns, has recently come forward to advocate capital punishment for kidnappers and increased funding for law enforcement, which is less unique among Southern bands than the fact that these albums sound more like Montrose-meets-Ted-Nugent than like most Southern rock. That in itself is a great thing, since the former band's two lead members, guitarist Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Sammy Hagar, as well as Ted Nugent, advocate the same things that Burns now does, as well as having the same blues and R&B roots as the great Southern bands. This CD features some great rockers and blues numbers that hearken all the way back to Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's and Buddy Guy's wonderful 60s recordings. ALLMUSIC GUIDE's Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave their later two-fer, AMERICAN EXCESS/ON A ROLL, a better review, so his kids should have to complete 600 hours of community service in order to graduate from high school because of the negative review their father gave this wonderful slab of roadhouse rock & roll barbecue. Get this CD at the first chance you can.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Southern Rock!.......2006-12-21

First two albums from Point Blank are as good, or better than anything ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and other 70's Southern rockers have issued. Great vocals, and amazing dual guitar harmonies, make these two albums a must for any true rock fan. Both albums were produced by ZZ Top's producer.

The Dub Pistols hail from Leeds, England, and while they have released numerous recordings in their home country, Point Blank is their American debut. Led by ambitious DJ-composer Barry Ashworth, the Dub Pistols integrate a variety of compatible influences into an upbeat multicultural sound. With a strong emphasis on Jamaican dub and reggae as well as American hip-hop and British acid house, the Pistols create a pulsing, rhythmic stew appropriate for both listening on the home stereo and the urban dance floor. Ashworth's turntable skills and sampling choices are moderately impressive, but the band's drum programming keeps the music hurtling forward. Funkier than the Chemical Brothers, the Dub Pistols are just beginning to distinguish themselves from the pack. --Mitch Myers

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-10-15

This CD has become one of my new favorites! I never heard of them until I heard Unique Freak on one of our music channels. The whole CD is great.

5 out of 5 stars awesome grooves.......2005-09-13

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, such a nice blend of electronic, hip hop. I highly recommend this!

5 out of 5 stars Rare CD.......2003-03-23

This has to be in my top 10 if not top 5 cd's of all time. Its one of those cd's I associate with a whole sumer full of fun, but it didn't end there, its a cd I can always go back to and listen time and time again. I highly recommend it if you like techno or hip-hop, it's a nice cross genre mix, with some excellent bass tracks.

3 out of 5 stars good not great, read why.......2002-01-28

it's a decent album, with a few good tracks that really stand out. tracks like cyclone (can be heard on tony hawk pro skater 2 video game) and let's start a riot. it's got a taste of tecno. i HIGHLY recomend their newer cd, released in 2001, one million ways to live lavish. it blows this cd out of the water. if you've heard the cd you know what i'm talking about. it has less of the tecno and more just feel good smooth flowing beat.

3 out of 5 stars review the reviewers.......2001-12-08

What's up with the word "definitely" that makes it so hard for you all to spell?? I have read so many stupid spellings of that word I'm about to fly off the handle, yo.

No matter how hot some bands are, and how great music is in general, it won't make up for poor spelling. Illiteracy is so wack, it's like a chick crimping her hair in 2001. It's like a guy grabbing his denim pants brass zipper and asking for some juice in 2001, yo.

Get fresh, and learn how to spell the word DEFINITELY. Use your i's. That's why we have two of them, yo.

5 out of 5 stars The best savage southren boogie band from Texas.......2007-05-01

I like southern rock music a lot and specificaly with the blues but this one have one thing in extra "the boogie" who push the music with a V8 motor This recording is magic If you need one PB recording this is the right one The other recordings have less energy This one is a killer and a must have like the first ABB Today we have Regulators and Southern Fury in the same type of southern boogie

4 out of 5 stars Hard Rocking 70's Texas Band.......2007-01-05

I saw this band with ZZ Top back in the late 70's as a opening act and they were very good. Hard Driving Rock, I bought the album back then and have been waiting on the release of the CD for years. Very good songs on this CD, you will not be dissappointed if you like ZZ Top as they have the same type sound with southern rock mixed in.

4 out of 5 stars An Absolute Metal Classic.......2007-02-21

Nailbomb, a one-off side project of Sepultura's Max Cavalera and Fudgetunnel's Alex Newport; finally reissued with bonus tracks. Sometimes categorized as industrial because of the use of drum programming both in the studio and live; this is not terribly accurate. Nailbomb is more along the lines of very heavy underground metal with slight industrial influences....NIN this is not. This album has always been one of my favorites, and remains so to this day on those mornings when you just gotta blare nihilistic pissed-off music on your car stereo.

This album is far from perfect- but it truly is a classic in the genre and nearly unrivalled to this day in terms of sheer energy and attitude. Great hardcore-influenced quasi-death metal chunk riffs downtuned and beamed directly to your noggin from your oppressive overlords. Max and Alex's angry rhetoric seems directionless at times; your typical "screw everything establishment" kind of thing-although I do understand that Max Cavalera is a sort of activist and hails from Brazil where social inequality and repression are the norm- but it really gels and is elevated to great altitude by the sheer enthusiasm of it all. A never-to-be-repeated classic fusion of underground attitude and classic death metal. Nice reissue with bonus tracks....

5 out of 5 stars Between Sepultura and Soulfly.......2007-01-19

If you're a fan of Sepultura and Soulfly you'll find that Nailbomb will nail your taste for this type of music. In the original album you could find the "recipe" to create an actual nailbomb, the member comply and exceed all your expectations. If you like to learn more about the roots of the group just listen to Sepultura (just up to the Chaos AD album), Soulfly and Fudge Tunnel.

4 out of 5 stars industrial metal.......2005-11-12

even though its not the Heaviest cd ever, its still filled to the top with AWSOME songs. this is one of few cd's that can be played through without skipin songs. Max said he didnt want it sounding to industrial and that they didnt promote shooting ppl like on the cover, just showing what happens in that country

3 out of 5 stars A poor-man's Ministry.......2004-12-09

I had such high hopes. I'd read about this album several times before buying it. I'd heard it described as a "Wall of Sound" and the "noisiest, craziest band EVER." Geezus. Metal fans in 1994 must have been a bunch of wussies. This entire album comes off like a Ministry album recorded in someone's garage. It has some interesting beats & hooks, but it is a FAR CRY from the loudest, most insane music I've ever heard. I think anyone who was a fan of Sepultura before Max became a geezus freak will appreciate this CD. I've never heard any of Fudge Tunnel's stuff before, so I can't make a judgement call on that. Maybe I'm off base here, but what's the point of doing a "spin-off" or "side" project if half your original band contributes to the album? I mean, that kind of defeats the purpose, don't you think? *cough* Andreas from Sepultura....*cough* Igor from Sepultura. Anyhoo, I suppose this album is good for any obsessive-compulsive Sepultura and/or Fudge Tunnel completist, but it really won't blow up your skirt (unless you think Linkin Park is the hardest band out there...then you might be impressed.)

5 out of 5 stars Who knew 2 guys and a drum machine could be so loud?.......2004-08-28

That's right. Nailbomb is a side project of Max Cavelera (When he was in Sepultura) and Alex Newport (When he was in fudge Tunnel) While there is the occasional appearance of Igor Cavelera and Andreas Kisser of (also of Sepultura) this is entirely Max and Alex's show. It's a Punk filled Metal album with all the anger and hate you could expect. The drum machine and samples work rather well and add certain style that is only found with Nailbomb. The opener Wasting Away shreds where as the closer Sick Life...does the same thing! It reflects back on the problems in society, police, religion, etc. I often find myself laughing at the beginning of the cover of Doom's Exploitation.

Here we have the remastered version with bonus tracks and more artwork/pictures/lyrics in the sleeve. Problem though, is that all the bonus tracks have been released before. They're all on Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide. This is an Album and a half. If they were going to do this they might as well have re-released both in a 2 disc set. We know that the energy on the live songs isn't as good as the studio versions, but they still entertaining. Most notably is the cover of Dead Kennedy's Police Truck. The only remotely bad song on the whole package is the B-side Zero Tolerance. If you like punk or metal or both you can not pass this up.

    5 out of 5 stars This Rocks!.......2007-06-17

I first heard Point Blank back in '76 when the first record came out.I bought it and thought it was great but for some reason kind of lost track of the band.I happened to find "Second Season" used at a record store locally 2 years ago and I think its awesome.Stand out tracks for me are "Back in the Alley","Uncle Ned" and especially "Tatooed Lady", a personal favorite(I love the mean F# key its in). This of course is not the Rory Gallagher classic,Irish Tour '74 being his standout version, but its awesome just the same. I was in a cover band a year or so ago and wanted to play this song but I guess the singer couldn't cut it.This album is a jam-along favorite for me as is the first album.I highly recommend this CD to any fan of Southern Rock or Blues Rock.

1 out of 5 stars Great album, now, if I only could get it in it's proper form........2005-09-27

I am hereby advising any potential buyers to steer clear of this product, unless you 100% know what you're getting yourself into.

I was surprised to find out that there were so many copies of this floating around now (not to mention that it seems you can order it straight from Amazon,) but upon receiving the package in mail, I now realize why is that.

This new repress of this album is quite simply a pressed cd-r with crappy printed one-sided covers. Of course, I could try to pursue getting my money back, but I'm not about spending time to send cheap cd-r's back from Finland, so I gleefully shall swallow my loss and use this opportunity to notify any other hopefuls of what's happening here.

Point Blank's business cell phone number is 281-914-1428. Leave a message if no answer, and he will call you back. Let him know what Cd's you want, and he will send them to you. Finally, after all these years, we finally have a way to get his great Cd's!

5 out of 5 stars one of the best.......2004-01-10

I have all of point blanks cd's except for his newest one. this cd is one of his best and one of the best rap cds ever.

      5 out of 5 stars Great CD!!.......2004-01-02

This is one of my favorite Point Blank albums...but I can't find it anywhere. I tried ordering it but amazon spent months but couldn't get it, so my order is cancelled. So far I only got this cd burned, but i don't want real audio quality, I want cd quality, so if anyone has a unit they can sell, put it up on this site. i'd appreciate it.

This is a great album and it is better if not just as good as Prone to Bad Dreams.
