2 out of 5 stars Ted Was Lost ?.......2004-10-16

This record sounded a lot like Aldo Nova did at the time. Also, the tracks that Ted sings lead vocals on are not the best tracks on this record which is a little unusual for Ted to let that happen. Tied Up In Love is freakin' awesome ! Too bad he didn't write it or else it might have ended up on a greatest hits package one day. I love that song and I remember that there was a really cheesy but cool video for it way back when. Overall, I think this a weak effort from Ted as evidenced by his earlier work as well as his more recent recordings such as Spirit of the Wild and Craveman which are both proof of the rock & roll greatness that Ted is now and has always been capable of when he takes his time in the studio.

3 out of 5 stars A solid rock album with a melodic touch.......2003-10-14

Ted Nugent's "Penetrator" is a strong album of melodic heavy metal. With songs like "Tied up in love" and "Draw the line" among others, this effort is better than many other albums by Mr. Nugent. A good thing is that he has recruited a proper singer - Brian Howe - and keeping his own singing at a minimum. If you like melodic but not cheesy rock, this album could be a real treat for you.

4 out of 5 stars A lost Gem.......2001-09-10

Back in the early 80's when MTV ignored 70's rockers like Ted, he was releasing some great material. For those of you who remember U68 the UHF channel that played hard rock videos during the Power Hour, I saw the video for Tied Up In Love(Coal Miner Ted with chicks). My addiction to Ted Nugent began. This album rocks hard with classic rock tunes and scorching guitar. Classic songs like Thunder Thighs, Draw the Line and Go Down Fighting are Great stuff. Its a shame this album fell between the cracks. If your a Ted fan buy it. If your not a nugent fan and you buy it you will be.

4 out of 5 stars Teds gone pop but ted does everything good........1999-12-03

this is the 1st Nugent release with Brian Howe as the lead singer (a few years later, he fronted Bad Co.). Although the songs have a very strong "pop metal" sound to them, You still hear Ted's awesome guitar wailing and screaming throughout most of the tunes. The riffs are good & Ted is awesome as usual. Brian Howe's vocals add the strong pop sound. Ted also sings lead vocals on a few tunes and on those songs, it sounds more like Teds usual stuff. I prefer Ted's earlier releases a lot more, when his sound was more heavy and crazy. But I also like Brian Howe's voice and it seems to go well with Ted's work too. So if your a Ted Nugent fan, you should get "Penetrator" for your collection as Ted makes all kinds of rock great!

    4 out of 5 stars Penetrators' fans...Jack is back..........2007-03-24

I'm a fan of the Penetrators. How can you not be? Their sound was so primal, greasy, funky - total garage bashing and wailing. As frontman/singer, Jack "Penetrator" Lipton was an integral part of that sound, and here he is with his first solo outing, Bad Boy.

Upon first listen, it was pretty clear to my ragged ears that this was a thinly veiled departure from the Penetrators - thinly veiled in that, even though it had more spit and shine than the Penetrators stuff; it still had the same punk rock ethos on the underbelly.

The EP kicks off with an original, "Trouble"; very catchy roots rock in full force. Jack's biting, level-headed sense of humor rears its head nicely in both "Trouble" and on the other original, "Get Off That Corner", yet it's more subtle and mature than in his Penetrator's days. "Get Off That Corner" is reminiscent of Elvis Presley's Chips Moman produced late 60s soul/gospel catalog (think '68 Comeback Special and From Elvis In Memphis), complete with slippery Steve Cropper/Reggie Young guitar work.

Jack and band rip through two covers on Bad Boy also - the first being the Stooges classic "Search and Destroy". The band's sound is ultra heavy and tight on this track, perfectly matching Jack's coarse vocals. Jack and band perform "Search and Destroy" so convincingly, that one truly believes they will bring the apocalypse to fruition!

Next, Jack and band take a stab at the Standell's classic, "Dirty Water". With its electric hootenanny-cum-gospel church rendition feel, it's a true highlight of the record. Penetrator's Eliot "Spike" Kagan lends his slithery hand on guitar with his trademark, raunch/funk perversions in tact. Just set up a room mic and hit the red button please, cuz we gonna jam!

Although most hardcore Penetrators fans may not get this record, it's a bold step forward for Lipton. It works because Jack is real in these songs, be it the originals or the covers. He's still the same Jack Penetrator we all know and love, yet clearly more mature and refined. His voice has never sounded better either, with a nice grit that only comes with passing years. Overall this is a very solid effort, and we can only hope for more to come from Jack "Penetrator" Lipton.

    4 out of 5 stars Penetrate This!.......2006-02-10

Boston bad boy Jack Lipton first warped ears with his classic garage band The Penetrators while trying to claw his way out of dead-end Syracuse New York. Not much has changed in Jack's attitude. Older? Yes. Mellower? Never! Instead, garage rock has come full circle and pulled up to Jack's stop once again.

Passionate but straightforward rocking covers of "Search And Destroy" and "Dirty Water" feature fellow Syracusans turned Beantowners Ducky Carlisle, Paul Armstrong and Mark Doyle. More impressive are the other two tracks, collaborations with producer and multi-instrumentalist John Fannon. "Get Off That Corner" is Lipton's take on urban gospel, while "Trouble" boasts a great hook, melody and harp-driven chorus...great, gritty pop soul by way of latter-day Ian Hunter. (Dare I say a "commercial garage" sound?) Too few tracks to proclaim the second coming, but interesting enough to hope that a full length follows shortly.

    Artist: PENETRATOR
    Title: Unleash The Fury
    Genre: Power Metal
    Origin: Canada

Bess Ross: Pro guitarist. Personal guitar tech for Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath during the Never Say Die tour. Bess Ross is a renowned showman, songwriter and producer. His previous recording acts include Anvil, Brawl and Travelin War.
Maxel Black: Singer songwriter, lyricist, pro vocalist. Maxel is known for his powerful voice and captivating live presence. His previous recording credits include Mastery (The Triad) and Maniacal (Sinkhole to Hell) features harmonic highlights by Eidolon guitarist Glen Drover.
Simon Vanderzand: Drummer/Engineer/Co-Producer, recorded the Penetrator CD Unleash the Fury at his studio, The Sound Lounge. Simon has been playing professionally since the age of sixteen. Previous recording acts include Static Eden and The Love Letter Refuge.
David T Green: David's thundering bass, artistic input, quick wit and stage presence completes the band.

PENETRATOR from Toronto and the rest of the world better be ready for this heavy and powerful debut from Penetrator, "Unleash The Fury". The phrase "action speaks louder than words" works so well in this case as PENETRATOR backs up everything they preached about what they would sound like before "Unleash the Fury" was released. Intense Power Metal, which seems almost non-existent in Toronto, with the only band that comes to mind being Eidolon, gets an amazing wake up call from PENETRATOR as Bess Ross (Guitars) and Maxel Black (Vocals) put together one of the best Canadian metal duo's not yet heard of in this country's history. These two guys along with David T Green (Bass) and Simon Vanderzand (Drums) tear through nine tracks of heavy metal passion and fury. The title track that leads off the CD has this superb power metal riff that will no doubt have you screaming for more. "Spread The Mind" and "Guns and Whiskey" explode with Bess Ross' incredible riff mastery. Maxel Black's vocals on "Unleash the Fury" take you to another world of the power metal genre. With so many bands out there following the same path one after another, PENETRATOR takes matters into their own hands creating a sound they can call their own. PENETRATOR is making a lot of noise! Some may try and follow suit, but only one shall remain on top. PENETRATOR has all the tools to remain number one for many years to come.

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles 9/10
There is something to be said for a good riff, and on Unleash The Fury Canadian dudes Penetrator have hit the mark at least 30 times on their 9 tracks. Axeman Bess Ross follows a well trodden pathway established by riff masters Glen Drover of Eidolon and Jeff Waters of Annihilator in generating one punishing riff after another, with each immediately distinguishable and fresh in its' own right. Who'd ever think that thrash metal could be catchy, but each track has the ability to make a lasting cerebral imprint that will have you humming the riffs long after listening to this gem. Vocalist Maxel Black has a unique style and after pondering this for a while the closest comparison I can offer is Jeff Martin from Racer X. A truly infectious listen of old-school thrash.

    Review by Eye of Shiva
If judge this band by its name, logotype, and front cover, you may guess they play Death Metal. If you read it this way you will be totally wrong! Penetrator plays a powerful and heavy traditional Heavy Metal in the vein of Judas Priest and Saxon - the vocal lines really will remind you of Rob Halford. "Unleash the Fury" is a type of album which you put to play and listens from the first through the last track! You bet! I can already picture you banging while the excellent tracks are played: "Unleash the Fury", "Spread the Mind", "Guns and Whiskey", "Muso in a Bottle", "Adulteress", "Wheels of Justice", "Shock Therapy", "Templars of Hate", and "Penetrator". This play is more like intimation to those bands who self label themselves as Heavy Metal! 9.0/10
