Product Description
GRIP INC. has returned with the finest work of an already impressive career. Originally forged in the mid 90s as a post-Slayer vehicle for percussion legend Dave Lombardo (he has since rejoined), GRIP INC. have evolved into a truly dynamic force on the international hard music scene. INCORPORATED is the ultimate realization of the GRIP INC. sound, with Waldemar Sorychta's multi-flavored guitar aggression and Lombardo's virtuoso drum performance setting the perfect stage for an utterly inspired vocal effort from UK-punk expatriate Gus Chambers.

Pure Gershwin was Michael Feinstein's first album, and it remains one of his best. It may not have the production values of his later Gershwin tributes, Nice Work if You Can Get It (1996) and Michael & George (1998), but it simply and directly presents Feinstein in his piano-bar days, singing to his own tasteful accompaniments with occasional contributions from bass and drums and a second piano. Establishing the patterns for his later albums, he sings unjustly neglected verses to familiar songs, uncovers some never-before-recorded gems ("The World Is Mine," "What Causes That"), and provides song-by-song notes. Longtime friend Rosemary Clooney guests on "Isn't It a Pity?" --David Horiuchi

this is good...and just to hear a REALLY GREAT "Isn't A Pity" duet with Rosie is well worth the price of admission. I REPEAT: just to hear a REALLY GREAT "Isn't A Pity" duet with Rosie is well worth the price of admission. listen & enjoy some great american music. you cant beat an Ira lyric.
A Wonderful CD.......2005-05-19
PURE GERSHWIN is just that, pure!. Feinstein interprets Gershwin the way it was meant to be performed. This is pure delight!
Quiet and elegant.......2003-04-20
Michael Feinstein's thin voice is compensated by his apparent enthusiasm for the material and a spare arrangement of piano, bass, and drum that gives this recording the ambiance of an intimate piano bar. Before hearing this disc, I knew only Gershwin's biggest hits, so many of the numbers here were new to me and increase my appreciation of that great American composer.
Disappointed.......2003-04-10
I bought this cd because I am a huge Gershwin enthusiast and am always on the lookout for versions of one of my favorite pieces, "Liza". I'd heard a lot of buzz about Feinstein and the supposed wonderfulness of his Gershwin interpretations, so I thought I would give this album a shot.
I was extremely disappointed. Feinstein seems to suck the life out of Gershwin's compositions, a feat I would have previously thought impossible. Though I concede that vocalists are free to reinterpret songs (many to a great success, as in Louis Armstrong's and Ella Fitzgerals's enjoyable versions of Gershwin), I think Feinstein's lazy tempos "loungy" voice make the tracks on this album boring and annoying.
I have loved to listen to and sing these songs my entire life. I just wanted to warn listeners who perhaps, like myself, enjoy George Gershwin's music for its beautiful clarity and energy (as easily experienced through Gershwin's own recordings, early interpretations by artists such as the Astaires, and even recent broadway "Crazy For You") that they will not experience any feeling of the sort from Michael Feinstein.
Amidst all the gushing that has recently been done over him, I found Michael Feinstein to have attempted to murder "Liza" and the other songs on this album. He merely displays a very unexceptional voice and poor interpretive taste. Fans beware, Feinstein proves that it is possible to make a bad cd of Gershwin songs. I'd recommend listening elsewhere.
they can't take that album away from me.......2002-05-09
they say the third time's a charm, but in this instance, it is the first time -- michael feinstein's first gershwin album -- that is the charm. this album is by far better and more listenable than the next two -- "feinstein sings gershwin" and "nice work if you can get it".
the listenability of this album may stem from the fact that it is a bare-bones arrangement, with two pianos, a bass and drums, a la a jazz trio, with no embellishment, so michael feinstein's then sincere and unsophisticated voice is the featured instrument.
i heartily recommend this album, as every song on it is a gem and feinstein's voice is more appealing than on the two later albums, when he jazzed it up with what sounds like an echo chamber and other electronic enhancements and he seems to be doing the songs by the numbers.
feinstein's version of "liza," slowed down to ballad form and plaintively phrased, is the best i have ever heard. the duet with rosemary clooney on "isn't it a pity," again brings out the best of feinstein's then-new voice and shows why george's (clooney) aunt is rightfully considered a jazz legend.
the combined "he loves and she loves/how long has this been going on" is another melodic/poignant highlight, while the album's finale, "someone to watch over me," is a stirring anthem to wanting and needing someone and is done with vocal and instrumental passion; it brings this collection of songs to a fitting crescendo.
for a lawyer's kid from columbus, ohio who started out cataloguing gershwin estate material for the reclusive ira and then began singing the songs for family and friends, michael feinstein has done all right for himself. he has become the recognized interpreter of the gershwin legacy, sort of the same way his pseudo-cousin, john, jr. feinstein, has become the recognized interpreter of the bob knight legacy... .
michael feinstein may have hit a home run his first time up with this album, and it may be his best, as it is the purest and most joyful celebration of gershwin tunes, while the others are fancier, more jazzed up and ponderous and less appealing.
the other albums are certainly not bad, though, and i recommend buying them to fill out a feinstein or gershwin collection, but this one is by far the best one to get if you are only going to get one as a sample of either's work. it is nice work, and you can get it.

Masta Ace does it again.......2007-04-13
The best rapper you have never heard of, Masta Ace, puts out another classic cd. Sporting one of the most consistent careers of anyone to enter the rap game, it is hard to find a bad Ace cd, and although this is not his best effort, its a close contender. By far his most accessible work, its an enjoyable listen that will ultimatly leave you wondering why you have never heard of this stunningly talented mc before.
There are no really standout tracks here because unlike most cds, there is no filler, but some cuts do stand out. Born To Roll is an absolute necessity for anyone that loves ot pump the base in their care, but be careful because this one might blow out your system. INC Ride is a classic Ace posse cut as he talks about what he sees in his neighborhood.
In the midst of the East vs. West Bloody feud, Masta Ace managed to blend West Coast beats with East Coast flow to create the perfect album for its time. I Highly suggest you pick this one up, along with anything else by Masta Ace
Completely slept-on classic.......2006-12-29
This CD is great. In the midst of the whole East-West beefing, Masta Ace, Lord Digga, Paula-to-the-P and Leschea put out a bumpin' album that marries the smoothed-out slickness of West Coast production values with the rough edge of New York hip-hop, and the result is a perfect album for ridin' around on a Friday night.
Ace says it at the end of the intro: "Let's take this ride..."
From the silky bump of "The INC Ride" to the deep hit and mellow vibes of "Terror," there isn't a whole lot NOT to like about this album.
Fans of Ace's later work will complain that he doesn't have much to say in comparison to his later, more concept-oriented albums, but the h*ll with that. Redman never had ANYthing to say; doesn't mean he didn't say it WELL. He's still my favorite MC!
"People in My Hood" is an excellent slice-of-life about folks around the way, "4 Da Mind" flips a tricky beat into a nice song and I'll be honest, "Born to Roll" should be mandatory listening for anyone with subwoofers in their ride.
To me, this album has a wide appeal for hip-hop heads from coast to coast.
Don't sleep. Especially when it's this cheap used on Amazon!
Born To Roll'.......2006-01-23
Sittin on Chrome by Master Ace is a diamond in the rough. I loved it when it came out and I still love it now. The style is Brooklyn Bass with an LA sound to it. When its done right it is hot and incredible sounding. Sittin on Chrome my top choice for tracks but there are others..INC RIDE, People in my Hood and Born to Roll are the some of the strongest..The only thing that keeps it from a 5 star album is the other rapper on the album. I dont even know his name or care to..the beats are all knockin though even the intro..Classic Unknown Material right here..
Born To Roll' the best beat to jam for sure LOCC
Haters.......2005-11-28
Smooth Beats Good Production East Coast Feel If you dont like this and you love east coast underground somethings wrong I love this CD especially the song Terror(Oh My God)whats going on and Inc Rode both versions ya'll dont like this ya'll are trippin!
East Coast Lyrics, West Coast Bounce!.......2005-10-31
I only know to much about Masta Ace Incorperated, this guy has tight songs such as Slaughta House, though I only found this one as his best Album....best songs are The I.N.C. Ride, Eastbound (feat. Method Man, Redman & Grave Diggaz), Sittin' On Chrome (feat. B.G. Knocc Out, Eazy-E & MC Eiht), Terror, Da Answer & the Bomb-ass hit Born To Roll that has the all time greatest G-Funk Bounce! Other than The Notorious B.I.G., Masta Ace is the Greatest thing to come out of Crooklyn!

An abiding ambition of Leonard Bernstein as composer was to write the Great American Opera. Indeed his own recordings of West Side Story and Candide in the last decade of his life, with their rosters of high-caliber singers, were intended in part to display the larger, quasi-operatic scope of these works. And right from the start, Bernstein's savvy instinct was to create a musical language that would integrate lively vernacular American idioms, as his early one-act opera Trouble in Tahiti (1952) demonstrates. This biting satire--to the composer's own libretto--of a marriage falling to pieces against the backdrop of the vacuous suburban life promulgated by '50s advertisements is little more than a series of vignettes. But the compact score is exuberantly inventive and wide ranging, from its parody of AM radio jingles-cum-Greek chorus to its wistfully lyrical depiction of a faded love. In this reissue of a recording made in 1973, Bernstein emphasizes the jazzy, rhythmic swing of the former--with its fascinating anticipations of West Side Story--as well as the poignant oasis of yearning melody in Dinah's scene at the psychiatrist's office, which would serve as the kernel for his later full-length opera on the same characters, A Quiet Place. Nancy Williams brings to life a convincingly vulnerable Dinah, and Julian Patrick's bass-baritone booms with just the right attitude of defensive machismo in Sam's gym scene "There's a law." The disc also includes the short 1946 "choreographic essay" Facsimile. This is the composer in his "age of anxiety" mode; its hauntingly scored depiction of loneliness at the core makes an excellent companion piece. --Thomas May
Customer Reviews:
A great find for anyone who loves Bernstein's musicals.......2005-10-17
By 1952 Leonard Bernstein had already finished a triumphant decade. His Sym. #1 had won the Pulitzer Prize, he had made a spectcular debut with the NY Phil., his ballet Fancy Free and the spin-off musical derived form it, On the Town, were smash hits. So the amazon reviewer isn't on the mark to call Trouble in Tahiti an early piece, nor is he right to say that Bernstein had a lifelong ambition to write the great American opera.
Trouble in Tahiti is jazzy and colloquial, its melodies and rhythms familiar to anyone who knows Bernstein's musc from the Forties, or the musical Wonderful Town that would follow it the next year. The work is operatic only in the sense that the voices of the two leads are more operatic than Broadway, but not by much. The trio that serves as Greek chorus sings in a parodistic pop style, half Andrews Sisters, half Manhattan Transfer.
The libretto is a bit embarrassing in its soap-opera simplicity, but in this case "dated" is a synonym for nostalgic--the score is full of tunes that evoke the immediate post-war period. The jazzy ballet filler, Facsimile, is just as winning. There was a classic performance in mono with Beverly Wolff in the lead that collectors prize, but this later stereo remake is almost as good. I've loved this minor work since I saw a college production in 1965 and return to it whenever I want to rekindle fond memories.
Wow! That's good!.......2000-05-08
The title should speak for itself. I don't just give out 4s and 5s to most any CD. I expect much and I got much from this CD. This is one of the most passionate and moving pieces of music I have ever allowed to try the test of my ear and emotions. The vocalists are wonderful. The climax is a work of art. The finale to the first half of this work is tear jerking. The opera deals with a married couple who are in the pits of their marriage. And unlike many people today, this couple wants to fix the marriage. It was very clever how Bernstein had them go through the entire opera with just the two of them as characters. The jazz trio adds a lot to the mood, beginning, and 'intermission'. The opera was so great I spent so long on the internet trying to find the sequel, Quiet Place, which is on here but is sold out. I wrote the internet address of the company who has it in my review of the CD here since I just know you will love this music. I'm so attached to Trouble in Tahiti I have not even really listened to the other work on the CD.
A fantastic recording of an unfortunately overlooked piece.......2000-01-27
Leonard Bernstein was far more prolific than most people know; many think of him only in connection with West Side Story and On the Waterfront. Trouble in Tahiti, one of his earliest works, deserves a place among his better-known work. Although an opera, it never leans on recitative or pretentious bellowing. There is an amazing diversity in the score; one number is a swingy, scat-filled trio, another an aria of haunting beauty, another a hilarious evocation of escapist cinema. The liner notes excellently compare it with a Mahler symphony in the way it juxtaposes such different moods to such great effect. The libretto may seem to some a bit naive, but it is amazing to see the way Bernstein destroyed 1950's cliches of happy family life before they were even cliches! The cast is perfect: Julian Parick has the perfect resonant voice and arrogance; Nancy Williams switches from anger to wistful despair to high comedy with remarkable facility; and the trio is wonderful, especially the ethereal-voiced Antonia Butler. Facsimile, a "choreographic essay" on virtually the same subject (isolation and broken relationships) is truly an excellent companion. A great CD.

Masta Ace comes back to the table with album four, Slaughterhouse in attempts to discredit gangster rap, and that which glorifies the violence that occurs in the inner city ghettos. Masta Ace had his hands on production on six of the sixteen tracks. Ace speaks about occurrences that happen in the cities and questions what's on our minds on "A Walk Thru The Valley". The title track is a direct aim at gangsters and ignorance in hip-hop / rap that actually sounds good as alter egos MC Negro & Ignant MC. "Jeep Ass Niguh" is the original version to "Born To Roll" just with different beats, though the remix "Born To Roll" is the highlight of this LP. "The Big East" is another good track with the sounds of a near western guitar sample. The storyline to "Jack B. Nimble" over up-beat jazz horns pushed the story along. As for "Who You Jackin'?" all there is to say is "...you baby, (what?), you baby, (what?), you baby, (what?)..." The off-beat production and help from Lord Digga on "Crazy Drunken Style" for a rougher sound to put the slaughter in the house. "Don't F*** Around (Outro)" features a guest vocalist with Ace's absence as she takes shots at emcees / rappers without respect or disregards. There's not enough singles to make this a five star release, but there's enough to keep your interest if hip-hop is your preference.
The off beat, on beat style.......2005-09-17

Ahead of its time, but past its prime!.......2002-02-08
I rocked this album on a regular, and thought it was banging. It just never seemed to get any play. Listen to the beats. Reminds me of the Wu-tang era. Raunchy drums, hypnotizing sounds, and raw lyrics. Now a days I don't even wanna hear anyone preaching about real hip-hop, because hip-hop is what it is: ever changing! Back then though it was a breath of fresh air. Especially with all the junk that was out at the time. I am a Master Ace fan from the "Keep your eyes on the prize" days, if you know what I mean. Slaughta House is a sleeper. Cop It! Don't sleep.

A great "first step" to the magic of "The Great White Way".......2006-11-26
With the Thanksgiving passing of songwriter Betty Comden, I recalled that I had, in my album collection, this album, not just featuring her songs but Comden singing on "Carried Away" and "Some Other Time" from the Tony-award-winning "New York." Two other songs from the play are featured, culled from a 1960 recording.
This compilation has some of the best of Broadway, not just the songs but the performers as well. Familiar names like Boris Karloff, the legendary Rosalind Russell, Nancy Walker, Chita Rivera, and Carol Lawrence are showcased in various selections from the likes of "Peter Pan," "Trouble in Tahiti," "Wonderful Town," "Candide," "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," and, in this writer's opinion, the best musical in the history of the stage, "West Side Story."
The liner notes provide brief but insightful descriptions of the various plays, including an introduction from Comden and her longtime collaborator Adolph Green, also heard on the album.
The music is definitely Bernstein with his uniquely American style, coupled with Old World influences.

Music to dance and seduce by..........2006-04-29
This is one FUN cd -- witty and amusing, jazzy and jammin'!!!
The music swicthes up from being Latin-ish, Middle Eastsern-ish, hip hop-ish and Henry-Mancini-spy-spoof-ish. It's giggly, sexy, and fun -- something me and my girls can dance to before, during and after cocktails.
Jailyn's voice goes from liquid lounge to newly funky and it all fits. The sitar is FABULOUS in "Way out," the languid throng of "Love Robbery" is spell binding, and "In this life" is so playful it's impossible not to sing along.
And I love the sexy surfer groove of "Under my skin." I've never heard anything like that.
Amazing album...each and every song.......2005-12-02
This CD is amazing and we love it as much as Supreme Beings of Leisure. What a fantastic CD...we recommend everyone buy a copy. You must have this in your collection.
HARDLY LAZY AT ALL!!!!.......2005-11-05
The name of this trio is indeed a misnomer. At first comprehension, one would think that these guys are some sort of chill out group with beats that will lull you into feelings of sloth...NOT!!! Lazy's "Incorporporated", to mirror the sentiment of other reviewers here, is funky, groovin' and all around kick @$$!!! Songs like "Way Out", "Same Old Alibi", "In This Life", "Under My Skin" and "You are the one" launch this debut release into overdrive and dares you not to shake or brake something. Then songs like "Love Robbery" and the almost P-Funk influenced "Valley of the Wastelands" do give the group a slightly "Lazy" feel. Don't be fooled by the name--Lazy is Hype!!! Highly Recommended!!!

Not like the Bay but still a good album.......2006-03-20
I'm not even from the Golden State but I love west coast rap. I have every Short album since Born To Mack. He still sticks to his style and doesn't try to go too commercial that much but this album sounds like its coming straight from Lil Jon. It's a good album but it could be too commercial in my mind. Its defenitly produced and made well which is why its getting 4 out 5 stars. I also understand that it is a mixtape before the album so its not going to be off the charts. There was a good mix of artists on here but it all sounded like I was riding out to a club or somnething. When I want to hear about sluts, or just stupid girls where can I? Im really hoping that his next album will have a mix of style not just clubbing. I cant wait for his new album up all night. Shorty in my mind is still a pimp but should try and show love all across the nation not so much the south.
Too $heezy Still proving the Haters wrong!.......2006-03-01
If you've read my other reviews, you'll notice that I am sick and tired of people still talking [bad] about the original Godfather of Pimp rap. I've read other reviews from "fake rap fans" claiming that Too $hort has lost it, true he is not as young as he used to be, but he still knows what he is doing, and he's STILL doing it better than any of these new rappers (Fake Pimps) He proves that he's still the best, along with 2 Pac that all these new rappers (Young Jeezy, David Banner,Petey Pablo, etc) and veteran rappers are still using them in their albums, knowing that just their names will sell albums. Honestly, I have'nt listened to the whole album yet, but I have heard some of the songs and they are instant classics. (...) Forty years old and he's still bumping the clubs. Before I even listened to some of the songs, when I heard he was coming out with a mixtape (not album) I knew (as all of you should've) that this was going to be another classic, but just wait until Album number 16 hits stores, as all the others, instant classic. I'm basically tired of defending $hort Dog, but keep hating, he'll just keep Playing!

"Keep it real hoe" featuring Mobb Deep is the Sh*t, $hort tells it like it is again for the hoes not to call or waste his time unless he's getting payed, or getting laid.
A rare gem in the golden era of hip hop music. Filled with thick bass, storytellin lyrics/battle raps, and funky drum kicks if your a fan of rap music & don't add this in your collection today the opportunity will be greatly missed! A+
FAaaaatt.......2002-02-10
This waz real rap! This album is a classic and you should buy it cuz if you dont have it in your collection you miss something!!
This contains great lyrics!!
