Not a bad way to start an album: "It has been established that persons who have recently died have been returning to life and committing acts of murder." The line is from George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and it kicks off "The Silent Creature" from Deceased's Fearless Undead Machines. A screwball-concept project that revolves around the three Romero Dead films, the record is nearly as tastelessly entertaining as the shopping-mall murder-scene from Dawn of the Dead. And while the lyrics are regurgitated with typical death metal grace, songs like "From the Ground They Came" and "Night of the Deceased" are imbued with striking melodies reminiscent of Running Wild, Mercyful Fate, and even early Iron Maiden. --Jon Wiederhorn

Only a few metal bands, like Deceased can honesty claim to pioneering a certain style and staying completely true to it's form. This is 'real' death metal for those out there who seek out such.'Fearless...' is the band's fifth album and possibly their best work.Inspired by George A. Romero's 'Night Of The Living Dead' trilogy. Most rippin' tracks here are "The Silent Creature","Graphic Repulsion","Beyond Science" and "Unhuman Drama".Know anyone who's in a coma?Play this CD in their bedroom, hospital unit, cell block, whatever. This CD rocks H-E-A-V-Y!!

As a serious metal fan for more than a decade, I haven't had to turn many CDs in for a few bucks. However, this one didn't stay in my possession for even a week. Praised by people in chat rooms (maybe that was my first mistake), I bought this album expecting something unique. After all, the cover has a sticker with a note by Fowley that it's for metal fans, played by heavy metal fans, and that it's proudly dedicated to the genre's listeners. Big deal! With the exception of a meager handful of creative guitar riffs, the lyrical content is completely worn-out and the vocal delivery is cheap. The singer is trying to scream/yell and totally fails the attempt to sound scary. The sound quality is awful, and while pace changes are frequent and well-executed, they mostly hack the songs up into several sections with no resemblance to each other. In sum, while the musicianship is decent, the songwriting suffers horribly. Also, the band takes up two pages in the back of the booklet to put down bands like Fear Factory, RATM, and Pearl Jam, all of whom have repeatedly displayed far, far stronger musical ability and production work. Deceased needs to stop telling people to "f... off" and worry about getting their own act together. They've got a lot of work to do... if I could I would rate this album with less than one star, but that's the least I was allowed to give it...

5 out of 5 stars dude, this will wake the dead.......1998-07-02

I fell asleep once while listening to this CD and I dreamt I was on a spaceship jamming with these guys. I dont know how they manage to rock so hard when they play live but manage to smell so nice afterwards. Especially their drummer King Fowley, who emits a succulent strawberry-esque odor after playing. I hate to admit it, but this record kicks butt over my bad Weezer and Rentals albums.
