SPEED/TRASH METAL LIVES!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-17
If you are a big fan of old school trash metal, and grew up on bands like slayer, death angel, exodus
This cd is for you finally a sound long forgotten is back, so turn it up!!!
Total 80's Thrash worship........2007-06-12
1. Ed Repka Cover.
2. Band photo collage.
3. Black leather jackets, tight jeans and hi-top sneakers.
4. Fast, heavy music focusing on tight riffs, sharp/fast solos and persistent and compulsive up-tempo drums.
5. Shouted/growled vocals.
In short, these guys are totally bowing the knee to the great Thrash bands of the 80's (check the extensive 'thanks' list to see who their influences are). If you are a new convert to good-old 80's thrash, or if, like me, you are a forty-something fan who was there when it all began, you could do a lot worse than to buy this album by Merciless Death. These guys are genuine, so, give them your support.
Pure Thrashing Mayhem.......2007-05-12
Nothing but pure thrashing mayhem here. Mandatory for fans of retro thrash like Dekapitator and Municipal Waste. They have a hard and metallik sound, reminding of Dark Angel and Terribly Certainty era Kreator. Cover art by Ed Repka, who made all the klassic covers for Megadeth and Nuclear assault, back in the day.

Unsurpassed setting of poetry to music.......2006-08-23
Apart from the quality of the performance here, it's worth noting that perhaps no one has done a finer job of setting great poetry to music than Vaughan Williams. His settings of Blake's poems are superb: they reveal aspects of Blake many readers miss. His settings of A. E. Housman's poems are just as good. (Housman is not listed here, but he wrote about ten of the poems on this record.) I recommend that those teaching Blake or Housman play selections from this. High school students in particular are likely to find Blake more accessible after hearing the songs.
Incomparable singing of English music.......2001-10-05
This notable recording is a welcome addition to John Mark Ainsley's catalogue of English music; his lovely, cultivated yet heartfelt voice is heard to advantage throughout the disc, wonderfully supported by the Nash Ensemble. "On Wenlock Edge" is here given the best recorded performance I know; it is superbly sung and played, with "Bredon Hill" being an especially high point, from the lovely rising phrase of the first line through the drama of the central section and the poignancy of "And would not wait for me." "Is My Team Ploughing?" is sung with real mastery; dramatic without hand-wringing, melancholy without melodrama, it is a perfect example of the art of a singer unequalled today in the interpretation of English song.
Blake Songs are the highlight.......2001-02-19
I bought this recording because I adore the Blake songs and wished to have a recording of them at long last, and these are without question the highlight of this CD for me. I enjoy all the other songs, and Mr. Ainsley sings in tune with a beautiful tone, but they tend to blend together into one long opus.

A Really "Merciless" Record [4.5 Stars].......2006-11-19
Wherever you fall in the realm of hardcore music listening, whether it be just a casual surveyor or a diehard elitist, it is most likely that you have at least stumbled across the name Most Precious Blood. And with good reason too, since these guys are one of the few acts today we seem bent on taking hardcore back to its real roots. Although the band is both straight edge and vegan, you do not have to be either to enjoy the music. In fact this is far from the preachy "my way or no way" lyrics or a band like say Earth Crisis. MPB just do what they do best; Bring the rukus.
"Merciless" is probably all around the strongest record this band has released thus far. Now of course fans are immediately going to be crying "Nothin In Vein! Nothing In Vein!" and if that is your favorite record, it's understandable. However dismissing the music the band is currently putting out because Tom is no longer the frontman is simply foolish. Most Precious Blood still embody the true spirit of NYC style hardcore; Loud, Fast and Heavy. The guitars pound out plenty of punishing rhythmns, and although the disc is not oversaturated with breakdowns (a high point) when they do make their way into the songs it feels very natural. There are some small leads and even a few moments of riffing that compliment the angry atmosphere very well. Rob sounds more adapt at roaring over the malignant violence that is the band's sound than ever before, and the larger confidence he seems to have in his voice is very apparent. The rhythmn section isn't exactly stellar, but in terms of the overall sound the band creates, they fit in just fine. As far as the song selection is concerned, any of the thirteen tracks is a keeper. "Shark Ethic" and "Mad As Match Hare" are my personal favorites (and probably the two best), but other hits like "Two Men Enter, One Man Leaves," "Damage Control Freak," and "Curse Of The Immortal" all pack vintage MPB fury. Another high point of the disc is its use of excellent samples. They're used just sparingly enough not to be overly dramatic (Killwhitneydead), yet there's plenty to fully encompass the disc. Overall there's very little to complain about here.
This is far from conventional tough-guy hardcore. Most Precious Blood have successfully created one of the most overlooked releases in all the scene, and it's a shame that they don't get more credit. Their ethics are as hardcore as it gets, and that's apparent in both their attitudes and the way they write and play their music. "Merciless" is great front to back (if not lacking a little diversity) and I'll go as far as to say it's the best record the band has put out so far. Pick this up and support the core of bands who are attempting to take Hardcore back from its emo-riddled mainstream audience of today.
Hey kids, you're not past the mainstream quite yet.......2006-03-06
If you like this band, there's a good probability you have a myspace with a pseudo-toughguy "GO VEG OR DIE" PETA2 logo tiled in the background, and there's a good chance your screenname is something close to "xxxBlEeDiNgRosE223." There's nothing special about your little "STRIAGHTxxxEDGE" core bands; look into some real music.

"you were supposed to be invincible....".......2005-11-28
a very disappointing release from MPB. i guess i expected too. the singers no tom sheehan. if you are looking for a good ol "nothing in vain" sound you wont find it here. this album just seems inferior in every way. dont let the free mp3 "shark ethic" on trustkill fool you, thats not what the album sounds like. if it did i wouldnt be so upset with the new sound.
another great album.......2005-11-18
This album seems a bit more 'metally' and 'heavier' than their previous ones, but don't let that deter you. Rob's singing on some of the tracks is one of the main standouts, the riffs are very very catchy - really stay in your head, the lyrics in this album also seem to have progressed to be less about personal things and more about the problems of our society in a kind of symbolic wordplay kind of way. This album has a lot of aggression in it which is also great...highly recommended to anyone who likes metal-influenced hardcore or quality metalcore. oh...and read the lyrics of 'diet for a new america' - with an open mind and have a think about it

I didn't even get that this band was supposed to be NYHC on their last album, because the production was so slick and alternative sounding. I took them as a bunch of alt-rock kids playing at being hardcore, and not entirely getting the point of the genre, so it's kinda weird to realise I had it completely backwards. Now I guess I need to ask what a genuine NYHC band are doing trying to sound so commercial. Either way the songwriting is still mediocre.

You've got to be kidding me?????.......2007-07-19
All nine songs on this death metal masterpiece will shred your head, not to mention the killer bonus disc full of rare tracks every Drawn And Quartered fan should have. Track six is entitled, Sodomy and Heresy, and the real heresy, in my opinion, is that this has been out almost a month and there are no reviews for it on here??? These guys have the most evil sound in all of death metal right now. The last time I heard anything that really freaked me out the way these dudes play, was WAY back when Morbid Angel released Blessed Are The Sick. If you thought Hail Infernal Darkeness was way beyond the abyss, wait till you here this. It sounds like the soundtrack to the end of the world with satan on lead vocals. These guys are heavy, technical, and as mentioned before, have an evil sound that I doubt will be matched any time soon. Get this!!!!

Pure Metal..........2005-09-04
This sounds like it could have been released in 1985! So, Aura Noir hasn't really changed much since their inception, but then again, when you play retro thrash and pay tribute to your idols, how much room for progression can there really be? Doesn't really matter, though, for these guys seem to be having lots of fan playing this style of music. Plus, the music isn't bad at all. Do you like loud guitars with riffs you'd swear you have heard on a Destruction or Kreator '80s record, along with precise drumming that follows a simple 4/4 formula, with the occasional well-placed roll, and throaty vocals that demand your attention as hymns about Metal and Satan are shouted? Not to
mention this is seriously 100% head banging. So get the beers out, play this record loud and forget about everything else. Metal rules, indeed.

Customer Reviews:
Vaughan Williams operatic masterpiece.......2003-12-26
None of Vaughan Williams' five operas have entered the repertoire despite the fact that they all contain glorious music. 'Sir John in Love' ought to be staged from time to time but 'Riders to the Sea' is a masterpice with a fatal, programming fault: it is too short. Lasting only 30-40 minutes, it is almost impossible to fit into a company's evening schedule. Happily, this length might well suit the domestic listener who has a short time at the end of the day and does not want to embark on a three hour marathon.
The composer does not call it an opera but a 'setting' of a one act play of the same name by the Irish playright, J.M.Synge. It is the story of a fishing family on an island off the west coast of Ireland. The mother, Maurya, has already lost her father, husband and some of her sons to the sea and the action starts with the finding of a drowned man whose clothes fit the description of those belonging to her son Michael. Her worst fears are confirmed yet her remaining son, Bartley, insists on going to the horsefair on the mainland despite her pleading. He, too, is drowned and Maurya is left with her two daughters. The sea has taken virtually everything from her but, surprisingly, Maurya rises above her grief - "They are all gone now, and there isn't anything more the sea can do to me."
The music and text are closely integrated in a symphonic way. The score calls for a sea machine which is used in an atmospheric way similar to the way RVW uses the wind machine in Sinfonia Antartica. There are no numbers and the atmosphere is somewhat grim throughout, as can be imagined. It needs close listening to reveal all its secrets. Maurya's final, long aria is very beautiful and emotionally very powerful and the opera ends in unexpected repose.
The three Chaucer Rondels, 'Merciless Beauty', is here recorded with tenor and string trio. The disc is completed by the cantata 'Epithalamion', which is something of a rarity. Epithalamion is a song or poem in praise of the bride and bridegroom and the composer's cantata derives from a masque he wrote in 1939 based on poems by Edmund Spenser. The dances were removed to produce the work which is for baritone, chorus, piano, flute and string orchestra. Lasting for over half an hour, it is a considerable work in the composers most lyrical vein and it ought to be better known.
All the performances are first rate, particularly Helen Watts as Maurya. The recording of the opera dates from 1971 but wears its age lightly. The other recordings date from 1987.
